Lap of Tassie - Final
In this overly long final episode John and I part company for the journey back to Queensland. John heads up the coast and I tackle the 'fearsome' Barry Way, review several cheap motels and rant about slow country drivers. Oh yeah, and one of our bikes expires!

After two years of doing not much, I'm back with a thrilling new adventure. Having not visited Tasmania on my around Australia trip in 2022, I've decided to make a special trip to take a look and I've also brought along my old mate John on his enormous BMW. Will he make it? Will I make it? Will the BMW make it? Watch and find out.

    The section that gives the Barry Way its reputation is the climb from the Snowy River on the NSW side. It's cut out of the sandstone hillside and lacks (unless it's been improved) enough drainage, so runoff can cut deep channels along and across the road. If you're heading south it's the start of the remote section so it makes a memorable first impression.

    • @abitofadetour7315
      @abitofadetour7315 11 днів тому

      It was a fun ride but I reckon if Google maps sent you over it as a short cut you might not enjoy it, especially if you were in a Corolla! There are also a few very narrow sections with substantial drop offs which might not be to everyone's taste.

    • @moblet
      @moblet 11 днів тому

      @@abitofadetour7315 My favourite section is south of Suggan Buggan getting into/out of the valley with the vista across and up the valley (from @22:50, it's also where the drop offs are biggest). Speaking of roads you wouldn't want to take in a Corolla, at @22:35 you passed up the opportunity for a short side-trip to MacKillops Bridge, along what is rightfully claimed to be Australia's worst "main road". Tasmania is custom made for motorbikes, no doubt about it. Nice to hear you're enjoying the motel reviews. I have to admit I enjoy doing them.
