Just bought this kit and thought I should check to see if you did a build review…..it looks like a spitfire with tropical bits, and this will be my second spitfire I’ve ever built (first was by my dad when I was 7…I’m 52 now…), so am quite happy to build this one. Cheers for the build review and your honest opinion. Will build in flying condition as a gate guardian monument.
For such an utterly crap kit, you did a very good job! I'd love seeing more of these back-to-basics builds. Old, slightly crappy model kits are a joy to build! (When the parts are aligned) Looking forward to seeing more!
I really like your style, handling a model kit not like an exercise "how to be Mr. perfect", but for fun and entertainment! Reminds me of my younger days, when buying a model kit and finishing it was done within a few days, not like weeks or even months. To be honest, it was more fun in those days than it is nowadays, trying to do every slight detail as perfect as it can be :D
I managed to get a slightly older version of this kit for £3 at the Bovington model show, and despite its obvious problems, I'd say any model kit you're able to get for so little money is good. Great vid as always
Well that settles it - I have one of these in my stash - This just became a kit that I slap together and give to my son to play with until it breaks. Yikes that's a rough one, but you get what you pay for I suppose.
@@ModelMinutes i figured if its really going to be that bad (the kit i mean and not the video...your videos are ALWAYS awesome) i reckon i might need a beer or two.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Looks like the wings are cast out of a mirrored mould and holes added where required on the underside, but should not have the two oval shapes which should only be on the top surface, though overall, great work on this kit, Matt 👍🏻
First of all, you did an excellent job considering the quality of the kit. For the price definitely worth purchasing for use as a skills test bed and as you mentioned for the extra decals. As regards to the bluey grey underside paint, I just wonder if it's a quality control issue with Humbrol? My son recently used this paint on his P40 and it gave an excellent result. Smooth with no graininess at all. It has to be said that even unthinned, it took 2/3 coats to get the full pigmentation. As always really enjoyed the vid.👍👍
You did a good job of it with this kit. I built that kit long ago in USAAF markings HL-AA, hand painted. The fuselage seemed too slim and the wings were like slabs. To do it with landing gear retracted I scribed in the wheel well and wheels. The wings are all I have left of the model, in my scrap bits box. I've found better Spitfire Vs in 1/72 at sales here in the US for less money than the PM kit.
Sorry about the trials and tribulations of the kit, however, in your estimation is the Humbrol clear fix worth it or are there cheaper alternatives that avoid the clouding issues?
Thanks! I feel like humbrol clearfix is the same as bostik general purpose or UHU glues. Alternatively, PVA will work just as well on clear parts but takes much longer to dry
and I would say one of those decal options is one that I don't think is done that often, that being the Turkish Air Force, quick look through scalemate shows that last 3rd party decals for the Turkish Air force were from around 2013 so paying $5 might be the cheapest and easiest way to go.
You're supposed the glue the "Barrel" to the inside of the nose, allowing the prop shaft to rotate freely, i probably got some glue inside this barrel which caused the problem
glad i watched this before getting this kit may be only 6 quid but i think i would rather save it and add that 6 quid to buying a airfix model spitfire you have more patience than me pal because i would have given in after finding the wings didnt fit properly well done on getting it to look as good as it did
I bought this kit way back in the early to mid 1990's. I never ended up building it as it was so bad. Had I built this kit in the late 70's or very early 80's, it would've 100% been set on fire and thrown as far as possible in a "battle" with my best friend who no doubt would've had a bf-109. Just as we did with our "knocked out" tanks back then.

I would to see the same. Mark is more capable that he is making out to be on this kit. Just because the kit is crappy doesn't mean that a crappy job has to be done to compliment the crappy kit.
@@newbymick1 who’s mark? Terrible kit, but a decent build. Once again the Humbrol paints look awful, but having experience with them myself it's the paint, not you! A shame as I always used Humbrol back in the day, although there were only enamels back then! I may try some of those next. Great channel content as always!
Definitely! I grew up with Humbrol enamels but their acrylics are dire. The original ones in pots were viscous and invariably dried up. With "Gen 1" droppers, I often found that the pigment and solvent were completely separate and wouldn't mix no matter how vigorously you shook them. "Gen 2" are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes they go on beautifully (I brush-paint) and give a great finish but sometimes it's like trying to paint with tar, or with a wash so thin that no matter how many coats you put on you'll never get adequate coverage. I tried a bottle of Dark Earth: it was great but another, bought a few weeks later, was a totally different colour.
Certainly not a kit to take seriously. Ok for building for a child to play with. Nothing more. Airfix's 1973 release of their Vb is much better. Fair, honest review.
