that is a understandable pick but i really can’t agree i mean thriller swept he had multiple great songs on each of these albums but it shows that he put his all on thriller and this album went and kind of proves my point. The only real reason i really can agree is because he had so many outstanding vocal performances on all albums but the way he felt like he did bad on most of these albums especially OTW he went and put his all on thriller.
When I was younger, I never listened to Michael's albums in their entirety. I came across different songs from different times, but I never thought about when they were released and on which album. Later, when I found out the composition of all Michael Jackson albums, it turned out that most of the songs that influenced me the most are on the Thriller album. That's why, despite the fact that I'm a big fan of Michael from different years, my favorite album is still Thriller. This is the album that influenced me the most (sorry for my English :3)
That’s an awesome story. There’s a reason why Thriller is the best selling album of all time! Even though I ranked Bad above it, I listen to songs like Billie Jean and Thriller all the time, almost daily. Also, your English is really good! You typed that comment out better than like 90% of the people I know would have lol
oh for sure, I feel like I never do it justice in my videos mostly because I praise other albums more. HIStory was a really personal project which is why it doesn’t sit as well with the general audience but it actually really showed just how versatile Michael was. He could make personal songs (DS, This Time Around), ballads (Smile, Childhood), and still had the power to make a number of hits (TDCAU, Scream). Plus the album cover is really cool too haha
Bad is actually the 1st album where every song was a hit n had a music video to every song. But thriller, bad, dangerous are my top 3 aswell. Just hit after hit after hit after hit. The majority of his catalog of hits come from thriller , bad , dangerous wen u actually think about it. Michael jackson has 4 classic albums back to back never before done or seen !!!!! King of pop music 👑 👑
Love the list! You can never go wrong with Thriller first; it’s the best selling album of all time for a reason haha. I definitely need to do more of a deep dive into Michael’s pre-OTW solo albums so I can discuss them more.
My Album Ranking 9: Michael, 5/10 8: Invincible, 7/10 7: Blood On The Dance Floor, 7.5/10 6: Xscape, 7.9/10 5: Off The Wall, 8/10 4: HIStory Past Present & Future, 8.7/10 3: Dangerous, 9.5/10 2: Bad, 9.9/10 1: Thriller, 10/10
For me, the most under rated song in Invisible is Heartbreaker. This song aged so well, it was just ahead of time, even you play it in club nowadays it still sounds great. Besides, Michael did shows so exceptional skills to sing this song, etc he sing like this to fit all lyrics into the note: THAT (girl I) CAN(’t) TAKE her ShoulD-(h)Ave (known) she was a (heart) BREAKer
It is really underrated like you said. Rodney Jerkins went crazy with the production and it’s just a fresh and fun style from MJ that I wish we could’ve gotten more of. People hate on Fats too but he delivered pretty solid verses in both his features as well!
Off The Wall: 7.5/10 it's a disco/groovy classic! Vocally perfect. Thriller: 10/10 , the grammys this album won, the sales and popularity says it all. The ALBUM, THE STANDARD FOR ALL. Bad: 10/10 I love how different yet amazing every song in the album is, an artistic reinvention and revolution. MASTERPIECE. Dangerous: 9/10 New sound, but the same amazing quality, I just didn't like gone too soon, also can't let her get away and she drives me wild sound like siblings in my opinion. HIStory: 8/10 this album is iconic, HIStoric. A FIERCE ALBUM, LYRICALLY AND VOCALLY. Even tho some songs are not as great as others when it comes to melody/rhythm and may be "boring" for some people. Blood on the Dance Floor: 6/10 it so short and I agree that Is it Scary sounds like a sibling of ghosts. But to me Morphine and BTOF are great GREAT songs, I can't complain about Superfly Sister neither, the Scream Louder Remix is god tier. Invincible: 7.5/10 it's the definition of 2000's pop/r&b and I love it, my faves are prolly 2000 Watts, Unbreakable, YRMW, Heaven Can Wait. I love the vocals here, powerful, deeper. Michael: 4/10 but behind the mask is THE SONG, (also love Hollywood Tonight and Another Day), but definitely the jason malachi controversy ruined the album obviously. Xscape: 8/10 I love the modern turn and all the songs are hits imo, Chicago, Slave to the Rhythm, Xscape are 10/10 for me, extremely catchy.
I really like your rankings! I’m with you that Xscape and STTR are extremely good songs, both are definitely underrated. One thing that I heard lately about Invincible that I never really considered was that in a way, it was MJ’s most forward sounding album in that it included dubstep tracks 10ish years before they gained popularity and lots of the tracks still sound very modern. I think that’s also part of the reason why they chose to use a lot of Invincible outtakes for posthumous projects. Thanks for leaving such an in-depth review. I really enjoyed reading it!
@@christiandebetta AGREE I literally just realized today about the dubstep sound in Heartbreaker, I dont know why I never payed actual attention to that but somehow I did a few hours ago and now I just saw your comment, haha. I'd say Invincible is a reinventing album as well. He always tried to innovate and be ahead of his time and this album is a representation of that. 2000 Watts is one of my favorites tracks in Invincible for this reason, I love the metalish/cyberish instrumental and the backups that sound like an AI, is so unique! Thanks to you for making these intresting videos
Putting xscape over HIStory is a BOLD move, however I understand your opinion. For me ‘Michael’ is an album I have a soft spot for. ‘I like the way you love me’ is a perfect example for me, of who Michael was as a person. I can’t not listen to that song and not smile I like a fool. The harmony’s, especially in the demo are full of Michaels magic. Ultimately I disagree with most of your takes ESPECIALLY having ‘she drives me wild ‘as a top 2 MJ song, but your videos are great and you earned a sub!
I really do enjoy HIStory, but I just think Xscape is really underrated and I always find myself listening to songs from it everyday. I think of some of the songs were released on the albums they came from, they would be talked about in a higher regard. The Michael album is tough for me because I don’t think it deserves the disrespect it gets, but I think a lot of the mixes were poor compared to their demos and/or alternate mixes. -Hollywood Tonight has a throwback mix that is really good along with its demo that has an amazing bridge. -Best of Joy and Much Too Soon are both really great and are in my opinion, the best songs on the album. -Behind the Mask is good and better than it’s demo imo -Hold My Hand is also good but nothing special, Akon does a great job too -Another Day has a strong chorus and great bridge, but doesn’t stand out. -The Way You Love Me is slightly better on the Ultimate Collection to me, but it’s the most underrated song on the album by far (really catchy). Sorry if I bored you with that haha but overall, the album has a a lot of good songs but nothing to me is really special or has hit potential (with the exception of Hollywood Tonight which would’ve been an amazing track had it been finished). I discovered She Drives Me Wild when I was in a bad place and it’s stuck with me ever since. I know it’s not as well-received as many other tracks, but it holds a special place in my heart. I really appreciate the nice comment and I hope to make the videos even better!
Definitely fair, both are big hits for a reason. I just find some of the songs on Xscape to be really catchy, but the creativity of TDCAU and the amazing vocals on Earth Song really make them stand out amongst the rest of HIStory.
@@christiandebetta I agree with you, xscape is a wonderful album.Chicago and loving you are definitely top 10 songs in my list. However, the album has some downsides, do you know where your children are and a place with no name are songs that don’t scream out to me and I rarely ever listen to those songs. Also, apart from the songs themselves, the album cover and logo are absolutely dreadful in my opinion. The cover looks cheap and unappealing. And the whole font looks to exaggerated in its design. The ‘Michael’ cover in my opinion works much better to represent Michaels work and legacy. Ultimately, the album is a 7/10 for me, still a great album with song iconic tracks and I feel Timbaland produced some great sounds and melody’s that work well with Michaels vocals. But the album feels to rushed and I think some other songs would have worked better then others, for example instead of dykwyca, they could have used fall again, someone put your hand out or we’ve had enough.
You're ranking is not too bad. I think your ranking off "Off The Wall" is low, but we all have our opinions. I would rank the MJ albums like this. 1)Thriller 2)Off The Wall 3)Bad 4)Dangerous 5)HIStory 6)Invincible 7)Blood On The Dance Floor 8)Michael 9)Xscape
I really do like Off The Wall, I only rank it lower than most cause it’s the album I find myself listening to the least. I really like your rankings tho! Do you mind if I ask why you prefer Michael to Xscape? Nothing wrong with it, just curious!
In my opinion the 10/10 for me is Bad, 9.9/10 is HIStory and Thriller, 9.8/10 is Dangerous and Invincible, 9-9.7/10 is Off the wall and Xscape, 7-7.9/10 is Blood On The Dance Floor and 6.9 and lower is Michael. I think that remixes on Blood On The Dance Floor ruin it, imagine how great would this album be if there were only original songs like Ghosts or Blood On The Dance Floor. Although I prefer the fast and more happy songs, somehow I like Childhood, Smile and Little Susie on HIStory.
Childhood had really grown on me the last few weeks. It’s one of those songs I always skipped over but once I actually listened to it a few times, it really opened my eyes.
My bad for taking a while to respond. Thank you for watching the video! I really enjoy Chicago. While I don’t think it’s any ground-breaking, it has a unique style that allows it to be used well in multiple genre. The Taryll Jackson rock mix is amazing and even the remix version is really interesting. I’m glad the song is getting some exposure, anything that drives positivity towards MJ and his work is cool and seeing a song of his becoming popular out of the blue is something we haven’t seen in a while so it just makes it even sweeter.
I got recommended this and have to say with your points i mostly agree with. Though my rankings always fluctuate, but like specific tracks i dont really often feel different about in terms of "this album coudlve went without this song". Atm, im liking 9. Michael 8. BoTDF 7. Xscape 6. Invincible 5. Thriller (A sin, i know 😂) 4. HIStory 3. Off the Wall 2. Dangerous 1. Off the Wall-Bad Really on a disco kick atm, Bad used to just be its sole own tier, but kind of flipped stuff around. Thriller being so low doesnt mean i dont like it, almost all of his albums and catalog i enjoy to its full extent, so these ratings are not bad, theyre actually really close together, like 8-10/10. (Michael, for example, is like a 8 teetering to a 7/10)
Mine always fluctuate too! Some days I’m in love with Invincible and the next day I’m listening to all of Thriller. I think my rankings were partially based off how consistently I’m listening to each album. Off The Wall definitely has some classics and honestly I have no idea why I don’t listen to it more often. I really like your rankings tho, Dangerous is an amazing album so I’m glad it gets the respect it deserves.
Great review, i have a soft spot for Dangerous. I will go with your ranking. I may put Off the Wall above Xscape, and Thriller above Bad but i'll take it either way . XSCAPE is a beast of an album, the only negative about it is that is a posthumous album and Michael wasnt alive. Otherwiese, i am sure it would rank higher in most rankings
I love Dangerous too! She Drives Me Wild and Remember The Time are some of my all-time favorites. Thriller and Bad is definitely a toss up too. It really just depends what I’m in the mood. I’m actually working on a video discussing the two more closely! When it comes to Xscape, every song on it is definitely quality enough to have been on a studio album during MJ’s lifetime. Although I get that some of them didn’t have a chance (like essentially any Thriller or Bad outtake) because of the strength of the tracklist, songs like Xscape and Slave to the Rhythm are classics. I completely understand seeing in a bit of a different light because it’s posthumous work tho. It’ll be really interesting to see what songs they choose to put out if/when they choose to do another posthumous album.
If Michael was alive, we wouldn’t have an Xscape. We would have something entirely different, much more defined & with an even modern sound & collabs like probably The Weeknd or Bruno Mars
Love having BOTDF that high! Despite only being 5 songs, it's a really strong album. Blood on the Dance Floor is one his best songs and Ghosts has been one of my favorites since I was a kid.
@@christiandebetta i dont think its underrated. Perhaps in us, but in europe the history album was a big hit with number one hits scream, earth song, they dont care about us and you are not alone. The album sold over 25 million…
@@christiandebetta agreed, the beat & background vocals “she was lovin me” really do it for me though. Also “loving you” is fantastic love that one’s chorus
9. MICHAEL 5/10 8. Blood on the Dancefloor 6/10 7. Invincible 7/10 6. Xscape 7.5/10 5. HIStory 8/10 4. Dangerous 8.5/10 3. Bad 9.6/10 2. Off the wall 9.9/10 1. Thriller 10/10
Those two albums might be the most heavily debated amongst the fans lol. I find myself listening to both extremely often (right now I’m obsessed with Best of Joy, You Rock My World, Butterflies, and Heartbreaker), so even though they aren’t ranked very high in the video, it doesn’t mean I don’t love them.
Haha I respect it. Quite honestly, I sat at my desk for a good minute debating which album is better, it really is a toss-up. There’s a reason Thriller is the best selling album of all time and it has some of Michael’s biggest hits ever!
For me it's the best because it's more magic then all the others, MJ's voice is on Top, he gives more space to his higher notes (or was more able I would say, Bad has that higher singing too in some parts like Labirian Girl or The way you make me feel) and is not exagerating with the aspiring parts, the "weaker songs" are for me favourites, "Baby be mine" his best Vocals ever in terms of difficulty to sing, "The Lady in my life", one day when I merry that's the song I will ask to play to dance with my wife 😂
I would put Xscape at 7.7-9 because some songs are just pure remixes and i dont really like them Invincible i would put at 8-9 because its still a better album than blood on the dance floor than Xscape and on 9-9.7 I would put History its just a pretty good album the only songs that arent for me its Money and Susie and for 9.9 I would thriller simply because I like Dangerous more and Thriller has a little weaker songs than Dangerous that i dont listen and for 9.9 I would put Dangerous or Bad its debateable I probably like a little more Dangerous but i still think Bad its a better album its hit after hit and I mostly would listen to the Dangerous album more
I’m like the same way when it comes to Bad. It’s loaded with amazing tracks, but I usually just find myself listening to albums like Invincible and Dangerous more often. I also get why you put Xscape low. Interesting enough, I prefer a few of the remixes to the originals (Slave To The Rhythm, Chicago, Blue Gangsta), but mostly all the others were perfect as is (especially Xscape, which never fails to blow me away).
It's a really interesting ranking, we liked it. We did not considerate on our rank "Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix" but check that out: ua-cam.com/video/VJIh5FTxkxU/v-deo.html
Ok Lets try: 8 - Michael/Xscape (some good songs but I am pretty sure MJ would never have validated their release + fake songs) 7 - Off the wall (absolute masterpiece but not the MJ I am the most fascinated with) 6 - Invincible (so many underrated songs from this record, his voice was dazzling and I am sure next album would have amazed us all) 5 - Thriller (classic, MJ reveiling his out of this world genius. But, strangely, this is not the record I listen to the most. Based on that, I might have ranked it below Invincible.) 4 - BOTDF (underated af. Every original songs is a banger and MJ's voice and songwriting skills mesmerize me) 3 - Bad (so classy, badass and rock, out of this world again) 2 - Dangerous (actually there are two distinct parts in this album, love them equally. The MJ I found the most profound and meticular) 1 - History (History is a piece of art. From TDCAU to Tabloid Junkie, he is the master at work and has so many things to say. His lyrics are amazing and actually, this is the MJ I "fell in love with". This is the MJ from this era I see when In think about him. Probably because of my age) Anyway, I could change the order tomorow (or in few hours). I listen to his songs everyday. He fascinates me and helped me go throught so many dark and bright hours. Pure musical genius and his craft always speaks directly to my heart and soul. Ps: thanks for your work!
You’re probably the first person I’ve ever seen have History first but I 100% respect it. I think there’s a misconception that it’s too experimental and long, but I don’t think that’s the case at all. There’s chart toppers like TDCAU, YANA, Earth Song, and Scream. There’s hard-hitting tracks like D.S, 2 Bad, Money and Tabloid Junkie. There’s ballads like Childhood and Smile. It’s a really diverse album that very commonly gets overlooked despite being some of his best work. I’m also right there with ya that my opinion changes constantly. He has songs for any emotion or mood I’m experiencing which impacts what I find myself listening to. Appreciate it!
Nice video but Im not a fan of your take on the girl is mine that is a beautiful duet between Paul and Michael one of the best on the album. Elaborate more on why you say no one likes it?
Honestly this is gonna sound like a weak move, but I’m gonna backtrack on what is said about it. I can’t speak for anyone else (particularly the MJ Reddit and forums where the song often gets more criticism than love), but I’ve really been enjoying as of late. While it’s not on the level of songs like Billie Jean or Beat It, it definitely holds it own and both MJ and Paul McCartney have great chemistry. You, along with my older brother, have really helped change my mind on it so thank you for that haha
I would be lying if I said I listen to Bad the most, but I think from top to bottom, it’s the strongest MJ album. I really love Xscape so I’m glad you do too haha.
Both are great albums, it just comes down to preference since I tend to listen to Xscape more often. I've been listening to a lot of HIStory lately tho, especially Tabloid Junkie.
I just realized parts of this video weren’t cut correctly, my bad lmao
I thought I was tripping for a sec, and felt bad for laughing 💀

I really enjoy Chicago. While I don’t think it’s any ground-breaking, it has a unique style that allows it to be used well in multiple genre. The Taryll Jackson rock mix is amazing and even the remix version is really interesting. I’m glad the song is getting some exposure, anything that drives positivity towards MJ and his work is cool and seeing a song of his becoming popular out of the blue is something we haven’t seen in a while so it just makes it even sweeter.
History, Blood On The Dance Floor and Invincible are my favourite MJ’s albums. 😂
I got recommended this and have to say with your points i mostly agree with. Though my rankings always fluctuate, but like specific tracks i dont really often feel different about in terms of "this album coudlve went without this song". Atm, im liking
9. Michael
8. BoTDF
7. Xscape
6. Invincible
5. Thriller (A sin, i know 😂)
4. HIStory
3. Off the Wall
2. Dangerous
1. Off the Wall-Bad
Really on a disco kick atm, Bad used to just be its sole own tier, but kind of flipped stuff around.
1) Bad
2)Blood on the dance floor (without the remixes)
3)Thriller
4)Dangerous
5)History
6)Michael (without 3 fakes ones)
7)Invincible
8)XSCAPE
Love having BOTDF that high! Despite only being 5 songs, it's a really strong album. Blood on the Dance Floor is one his best songs and Ghosts has been one of my favorites since I was a kid.
@@christiandebetta definitevely underrated
I like history album
Me too! An underrated classic!
@@christiandebetta i dont think its underrated. Perhaps in us, but in europe the history album was a big hit with number one hits scream, earth song, they dont care about us and you are not alone. The album sold over 25 million…
Here’s my ranking:
9. Michael
8. Off The Wall
7. Blood on the Dance Floor
6. Thriller
5. HIStory
4. Xscape
3. Invincible

Seems like our rankings are very similar!
Recently just discovered Chicago or “She was lovin me” & it’s differently a top 10 best MJ song
I love its uniqueness and how beautiful the bridge is!
@@christiandebetta agreed, the beat & background vocals “she was lovin me” really do it for me though. Also “loving you” is fantastic love that one’s chorus
the best once is OFF THE WALL THRILLER BAD DANGEROUS
9. MICHAEL 5/10
8. Blood on the Dancefloor 6/10
7. Invincible 7/10
6. Xscape 7.5/10
5. HIStory 8/10
4. Dangerous 8.5/10
3. Bad 9.6/10

1. Thriller 10/10
Best selling album of all time, gotta respect it haha. Is there any one song that you think holds back BOTDF or you just not a fan of it really?
dangerous 9.8
history 9.5
bad 9.5
thriller 9.1
off the wall 9.0
invincible 8
blood on the dance floor 8
Very high (and deserved) ratings! Love seeing Dangerous first, such a classic.
he had 4 albums before off the wall...
Pretty much agree with you but HIStory is higher up there for me
I respect it. I’ve been listening to it a lot lately and Smile has been one of my personal favorites lately.
Where his 1st 4 albums?
thank you
albums you missed (got to be there) (ben) (music & me)
I need to listen to these a few more times so I can give a better opinion but you right
nah why are people hating on the Michael album & Invincible, cmon now!
@@christiandebettaInvincible as heavily debated, more like underrated
2 of my favorite album that are goat is bad and xscape! So catchy in my opinion😁👍
They really are. I always find myself listening to various songs from both albums daily!
I'm an Hardcore fan but I prefer Thriller 😁
We did not considerate on our rank "Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix" but check that out:

Appreciate it. I'll check your video out!
Ok Lets try:
8 - Michael/Xscape (some good songs but I am pretty sure MJ would never have validated their release + fake songs)
7 - Off the wall (absolute masterpiece but not the MJ I am the most fascinated with)
6 - Invincible (so many underrated songs from this record, his voice was dazzling and I am sure next album would have amazed us all)
5 - Thriller (classic, MJ reveiling his out of this world genius. But, strangely, this is not the record I listen to the most. Based on that, I might have ranked it below Invincible.)
4 - BOTDF (underated af. Every original songs is a banger and MJ's voice and songwriting skills mesmerize me)
3 - Bad (so classy, badass and rock, out of this world again)
2 - Dangerous (actually there are two distinct parts in this album, love them equally. The MJ I found the most profound and meticular)
1 - History (History is a piece of art. From TDCAU to Tabloid Junkie, he is the master at work and has so many things to say. His lyrics are amazing and actually, this is the MJ I "fell in love with". This is the MJ from this era I see when In think about him. Probably because of my age)
Anyway, I could change the order tomorow (or in few hours).
MICHAEL album (((ITS NOT MICHAEL JACKSON singing))) only 3 from previews albums
Kinda funny how 'Bad' Is the 'Best' album
Lmao fr, he loved his one word titles
Off The Wall > all
Respect! OTW has some of his best songs ever!
His best music was before he turned white tbh. So everything before the Bad album.
Bad 1st?
i dnt think so
Invincible and Xcape
9.9
I would be lying if I said I listen to Bad the most, but I think from top to bottom, it’s the strongest MJ album.
I really love Xscape so I’m glad you do too haha.
Xscape over History?
Both are great albums, it just comes down to preference since I tend to listen to Xscape more often. I've been listening to a lot of HIStory lately tho, especially Tabloid Junkie.
