Actually not difficult to decipher the feud from the video: Esther said she tweaked the recipe given by her dad so it’s no longer the original. Aunties Peng was the baker so she will have the original recipe. Aunty Peng said Esther was never in the shop but when she wanted to make changes to the recipe after she took over. So Aunty Peng find Esther bossy, did not agree to the changes in the recipe and obviously was not happy and did not get along well with Esther. All these probably drove Aunty Peng to break up the business relationship, even though deep inside she still want the business to go on since it’s the business she has been working on since day one for over 30 years. Aunty Peng obviously would not tell Esther she is setting up another shop so she has to find an excuse and said she is retiring and of course she can change her mind as well. Technically she is retiring as she has handed the business to her daughter. It also makes sense for Aunty Peng to set up shop in the same mall as that’s where her regular customers are. Nothing wrong with that and she already explained that it was by chance that the new shop was next to Esther’s. My conclusion is that you should only eat banana pie once in a blue moon and don’t eat the whole slice as they are not very healthy 😂
Actually this is the surface. If you have been there on the ground before. You will find the auntie peng’s husband very obnoxious and rude. Auntie Peng also rented another shop beside Dona Manis. (Effectively sandwiching Dona manis) And the husband will try to “steal” customers that are in the line for Dona manis.
@@sportsapologist6136 and setting up shop next to your former business partners after claiming you are retiring is good? This is acting in bad faith. I love the banana pie - it has a nice nostalgic taste to it. We didn't know that Auntie Peng opened her own shop and recently when my hubby bought from Dona Manis and brought it home, I took one bite of the pie and told my husband it tasted different. Now I know why 😅
I stayed and worked in the vicinity, and I still frequent the area. Anyone remembered Oriental Supermarket at the far end? If you do, you are a true blue Eastie. Been patronising Dona Manis for many, many years. They used to sell buns to the morning crowd, one can always see Auntie Peng, her hubby and Uncle Tan manning the stall. So go figure what time they actually started to work to get those buns ready. Auntie Peng from what I observed over the years, she's a straight talker and doesn't sugarcoat her words. I always see her just racing against time to present her bakes to the crowds. I used to jest with Uncle Tan that he calculates faster than the calculator. They know their roles and play them well. To be honest I didn't see Esther and her daughter till Uncle Tan passed away. The original store exists but sadly it has lost it's spirit. I am pretty sentimental about that spot actually, after patronising for donkey years including testing and buying their CNY goodies. And to be fair, I bought from both shops to test which I prefer, and Auntie Peng's version clearly stood out. Try their chocolate tarts too, they are heavenly. My take is Auntie Peng is the OG and creator of the banana pie, so Dona Manis can't claim to be the original. The form exists but the substance has gone elsewhere. How can Uncle Tan know the exact recipe when he doesn't bake at all? I find the last part involving the daughters as a low brow tactic to evoke emotions, it felt really fake to me to be honest. Esther's daughter is much more articulate and driving the narrative. Also which staff from the documentary made Auntie Peng's daughter wear that outfit, it looked so off, she's usually very low key baking in the background. Final thoughts, the market is big enough to accommodate both stores. There are specialised retail areas which sell the exact same items and there's no reason why K.S.C. can't be known for banana pies. I do hope both shops can make peace and reconcile, peace out! ❤
20:30: I believe the daughters chose their own outfit? That means Auntie’s Peng daughter is less classy. Her teeth are also a mess at such a young age. So many teeth are decayed and have fallen out! I’d think twice about ordering from someone who has poor personal hygiene even though many ppl say the OG’s pies are better. Esther’s daughter looks more well-groomed and classier-looking like her mother. She speaks better too, like someone from a rich family. Auntie Peng’s daughter looks like someone from a Chinese-speaking and blue-collared background which her mum is.
Yes I know every inch of Katong area . I grew up from Joo chiat to Ceylon road. Back then , Katong shopping is my only go to mall ! Glad they are still around .
Pretty honest answers by Esther although she seems to have to tried to link everything to her dad to support the base of her claims. I gotta say, respect to Auntie Peng for opening the shop and selling her original recipe. 30 years of working there is no joke. I have yet to try either of them before but will do so this weekend (hope no queue pls after this episode)
Kudos to CNA for finding meaningful content and crafting the flow, researching and creating each segment of this program! CNA is truly a good channel that rivals 'bigger' international brands in creating high quality products. A proud follower!
Thanks for the unbiased video! I enjoyed the comprehensive documentation of the complex history and relationship of the shop owners and their banana pies. I can really understand where both sides are coming from. Also, Im excited to see the future of the both shops when the next generation takes over!
I would say Auntie Peng is what you see is what you get kinda lady - there’s no need to guess what she’s thinking. Esther is more polished and is very careful with her words. She’s more concerned about her image. Either way i don’t really care but i hope both find peace and happiness in their own little creations.
i think it's unfair for auntie Esther to keep insisting that her shop is the "original banana pie". The fact is that auntie peng is the true creator of the recipe. Even if she had created it under the name of Dona Manis, it's still her creation. So to keep insisting that she's the original recipe under the name of her father is morally wrong. In my perspective, I believe that Auntie Peng's decision on opening her own brand right beside Dona Manis was with the intention of carrying on her view of "the legacy". We must not forget the fact that she has been working in that area for 30 years and has already fostered close bonds and relations with her regular customers. Also it's quite evident that Esther and Esther's daughter are rather well off. Taking into account that they are both fluent in their speech and speak in a very refined / reserved manner, where as though Auntie Peng's speech is definitely more emotional, it's more authentic.
u do realise the original question was brought up by the media to make a story... obviously both sides need to play their cards right? I won't even bother about their answers to originality.. use yr brain!
Based on what I understood from the stories told from both sides, I didn't feel Mr Tan communicated effectively what he wanted before he left. Both of them have their own truths. At the end of the day, you can just support what you prefer. I'll try both :)
If the recipe is tweaked, then it is not original already. Simple to understand leh. Donna Manis is the original shop selling banana pie, but Auntie Peng is the one selling the original banana pie.
Auntie Peng all the way, i used to work in that area and frequent the bakery, never have i met Esther. And all the time I was there, Auntie Peng will be there in the kitchen. She is friendly and passionate. Esther is a business woman, the way she answer questions, speaks volume what kind of woman she is. Auntie Peng all the way!
Aunty peng works there of cos she should be there, Mr Tan works there of cos you will not see his daughter there. Will we see your children in where you work?
@@nt6253 I used to eat the banana pie before the passing of the co owner and can testify that the taste of auntie peng's is exactly as I remembered it. I will never go back to dona manis.
Both are delicious pies. I usually visited late in afternoon,, when the pies are selling out, I just buy whichever shops that still have the pie left. I just love both of them ❤️
I like Auntie Pheng. She is honest compared to the other auntie. I will support Auntie Pheng because of her integrity and she is the original baker and creator of the pie.
Integrity? She told her niece that she was going to retire. Then she took all the money from the bank and opened next door when she could easily open a store anywhere else. Seems spiteful and greedy to me. This isn't about the pie. Its about money.
@@rebelsymphonyorchestra8830😂😂😂 u stupid or naive? U WP supporter? In real biz world everything is about survival. U think WP can help Singaporeans survive in world talking about fairness?
They are both right and they can coexist without any resentment. In fact discard the negative feelings and build a warm lasting friendship. I would suggest to combine the shops into one with an equity of 50-50 and name the shop as Dona Peng and leave the business to their daughters.
Did you know that auntie peng rented another shop beside Dona manis? Sandwiching Dona manis between 2 of their units. Peng’s husband will also non stop try to steal Dona manis’ customers that are in line by trying to direct them to auntie Peng. In my opinion, auntie peng acted in bad faith.
My family grew up eating Dona Manis's pie. When the business split, I bought pies from both shops and did a blind taste test on my family (literally blind, as visually you can tell which looks original). All of them unknowingly chose Auntie Peng's pie. I now buy my banana pies from Auntie Peng (cause she's the original), and some other small pastries from Dona Manis (in honour of the history). I guess for those who are familiar with the taste, they will choose Auntie Peng, while new customers will have to try both to see which they prefer.
Both versions are good but I prefer Auntie Peng. Not true that only the younger ones go for Auntie Peng. My friends in their 60s also like Auntie Peng's bec the pie does not get as soggy, holds its shape better.
Auntie Peng has been in a very long term partnership with Uncle Tan. Everything is good between them. Auntie handles the baking and kitchen operations, Uncle handles finances and maybe logistics and does not interfere with the Kitchen. After his side of business was handed down to his daughter, his daughter wants to be involved it the Kitchen operations, going as far to change the recipe. For what? Change is only needed when you start to see a decline in your business or there are other future forces that could put you out of business (technology products are a good example of needing change). For Banana pies, the taste is timeless and they were still getting a very healthy flow of customers. If someone who hasn't really been involved in the business takes over simply because it was handed down to them (they didn't work or put effort to earn it) and decides to overstep her boundaries by getting yourself involved in Kitchen operations instead of just managing finances which is what they should only be doing, would you be mad like Auntie Peng and break off the partnership? Cause I am sure a lot of people would unless they are the ultra submissive kind and can't speak for themselves. Another important thing to note is, once the recipes are changed, it would mean Esther would have complete control over the Kitchen instead of Auntie Peng, effectively "nullifying" Auntie Peng's position as an owner and she'll become like a regular employee who is just baking for Esther. As you can see from this video, you could see that more people still preferred the original recipe (auntie peng) over the new Dona manis. So technically the recipe change didn't prove to be so successful after all.
Have you seen how both Auntie Soh (now calling herself Auntie Peng) and Uncle Tan behave and flirt 4 years ago? Go check mothership video regarding the best banana pie in Singapore 😂
I feel sad thay Auntie Peng only got 20k out of it when clearly she was the driving force of the business. Glad she went out to do her own business, will want to try the actual original!
Both their business are booming, pies sold out fast everyday. It is really a win-win-win situation where both businesses are likely making good profits while customers have a choice or simply eat both. In fact, if one shop sells out, customers can buy from the other.
I have been a customer of dona manis before the death of the co-owner. I can verify that the taste of the banana pie at Auntie Peng is exactly the same as when I ate it many years ago. She is the OG banana pie maker and the OG bakery at Katong Mall.
It's nice to see that their next generation are cool about things. Most importantly, it's about the passion of making a great banana pie. I'm sure the late Mr Tan would like to see his daughter and long-time business partner work well together. As for the originality of the recipe, I feel it should be about the quality and taste that are offered to the consumers. Continue to focus on improving what you offer to people who are loyal to you. 🎉❤
wow! what an interesting story! In my opinion...i think things would have been different and a little bit more peaceful if only Auntie Peng opened her shop elsewhere. That would seal her confidence that she really is the original maker of the pie if her shop will have the upper hand even though she is on a different place. We can't just move Dona Manis as it is there for many years already so Auntie Peng should have been the one who adjusted. If only she opened on a different area it would be a better competition and not be a so called "feud" I can only imagine how thick the air is every single day there. That is sooooo stressful. Whoever gets the better show of customers would likely be the one who gets the right to say they are better than the other one. In my humble opinion and from how i understood the video... > Dona Manis started the product > Auntie Peng is the original recipe maker > Esther tweaked the recipe handed to her 🤔 Hmmm...is this in Singapore only? I think i need to visit this when i go there. looks good!
and who is the business owner? its not unlike any other business it takes a team to do what it takes to succeed. end of the day is quality and consistency of product. Even original restaurants detoriate over time.
Who’s the bad person? Auntie Peng or Esther? None. Let’s not focus on who is the righteous one. Mr Tan didn’t manage this well but I’m sure he wanted the best for everyone. Let’s hope the two daughters will show the world what real humanity is 🥲
Feud aside, i didn't know Banana Pie was a thing in Singapore. Then again, I'm Malaysian. Im so impressed by how innovative the foods are in Singapore tbh.. Even the hawker foods there are quite innovative. I love banana flavoured items... Banana cake, banana smoothie, chocolate banana cake from Secret Recipe 🤭... As for the feud, I kinda understand Auntie Peng, because she feels discredited and the only reason the daughter take over is because ya know, blood line. Tbh, its unfair, if you're partners, shouldn't it be shared? So auntie peng take has to work with blood, sweat and tears for the success of the shop, ending up with nothing. Tbh, i think her efforts were discredited and the shop was given to her daughter because blood lines over a hardworking partner/employee? "Heros aren't born but made". As for Auntie Peng opening a new store, why d f not? I understand her because heyy, im petty af too 😂. Im so invested in this. Tbh, i just don't like company bringing in relatives to work in especially when they take things for granted and they are freaking not competent. Biasness. Because the company im in is the same, keep hiring the relatives but its the staff and employees that are doing all the work. Not appreciated of the employees 🙄... Dayum, this makes me emotional too. 😂.. I just hate incompetent people especially if its a relative or a friend of the boss because you can't bring it up or offend.
Then please give all your will and money to hardworking helper instead of your own children 😂 same ask your parents to give their money to others who are more deserving than their children 😂
@@celestialstar124 yeah that was the grey truth mr tan just want to keep his business share to his family so to uphold the status quo this situation happens. so rather than winner take all everyone keep 50/50 so they are right for their own business share and it was the right of auntie peng too to create new shop to keep her share of business rather than all fall to dona manis. so this story is about 2 older business partner outwitting each other when one of them die to keep their 50/50 share.
@@celestialstar124 if your own children are incompetent or not interested in running your business, do you still give it to your children or to your business partners? Not gonna lie, after watching this video, I went to both shops to try the banana pie. Honestly, I found them underwhelming. They taste pretty similar, with the only difference being one is slightly sweeter than the other. But overall, they’re almost the same. I’d still prefer a banana cake. Personal preference I guess. Dont waste time going down not worth it
The new gen will take over and I believe they both bring different things to the table. It’s not one vs the other. Each has its own taste, and customers have their own preferences whatever their choices. All the best to them both. And I’ll happily try both.
Don’t like Aunty Peng’s intention of setting up shop right beside the original Dona Manis shop. She obviously has the intention of damaging the name of the original shop. She could have respected the late owner and set up shop at another location.
I think there’s some unresolved hurt. Aunts Esther said herself she never come and help when her father still alive. To just come and insist to change the recipe just because she feel she has the proper education is disrespectful imo, some cook take pride in their food. May be Aunty Peng didn’t go to culinary school but she has 30 years experience in baking for that bakery. I didn’t blame Aunty Peng for setting up the shop where it is , as human being sometimes we want to pay back the people who hurt us. Two wrong didn’t make it right but we are just mere human being after all
I think that's bs, the daughter had nothing to do with the business and didn't go for whatever reason and showed no interest irregardless of her reasons. So if you force one of the original partners out and she opens next door good on her. The daughter sees it as a brand and a piggy bank, her hearts not in it. She calls herself a trained pastry shelf and looks down on old school recipe. Also how can u call it original when the original chef is alive and knows the recipe.
I thought it was hilarious 😂 also it's potentially good for both their businesses because people would be curious to compare and end up buying both products.
She should have gone to City Plaza. Way more clientele than Katong Shopping Centre. Can even call yourself Katong Shopping Centre Banana Pie. I suggest whoever manage to get halal cert, the business going to boom. I wanted to give my Muslim colleagues and they couldn't eat it.
I think they are just intending to run the business as family business. Halal cert requires 2 full time muslim employee. Unless Ms Peng’s daughter n son converts its not possible lol. Thats why a lot of Muslim restaurant also don’t want to get the Halal cert.
Tried Dona Manis during covid time, very nice but not something I will eat often. Somehow Auntie Peng gives off more negative vibe, can feel her anger. But to say she wants to retire and open shop next door is weird. Should just open at west side la. Then each have half the pie 😂
gen Zs and their perpetual talk of 'vibe' (I'm not far from gen z) lol. try to imagine investing over three decades of hard work (and solo-ing, while Mr Tan reaped the benefits of appearing as the face of the business) only to have an absent daughter suddenly take over and call Dona Manis 'original'. if you can be void of any 'anger' i applaud you for your superhuman capacity
@@natphil8377You assumed I am Gen Z. So you are judgey as well, no? I do not know them personally, its only through this interview we judge from what both says. I said she gives out more negative vibes and looks angry, I did not dismiss the years and efforts when she was working in the original shop.
1)Being the original doesn’t make it the best 2)I can only see someone with a lot of ego. You have the boss and the baker, if the boss doesn’t set up the shop, the baker probably has no platform to showcase, no matter how good she is. She has the chance to develop her recipe all due to the opportunity of the platform given to her. 3)Question, why didn’t the boss pass the shop to the baker?Give her a share when he was alive? (After years of seemingly really good relationship??) 4)Ego makes people petty, I only see one petty person. 5)The daughter was given the shop to continue her father’s legacy, and that’s what she is doing, to her best ability, with or without the “original” baker. 6)The daughter comes across as a pragmatic person, not likely to allow anyone to hold her or her business, hostage.
What I heard from people in KSC. The shop was offered to Peng with a takeover fee. But she didn’t want to pay the takeover fee. So she sold her shares and set up shop next door.
After watching this esp I went to buy both to try. I like the aunty Peng one. It is moist and banana taste is stronger. Dona is drier and the nut made it even drier. Don’t scold me 😮 my preference .
Have you seen the interview by mothership 4 years ago? Auntie Peng back then call Auntie Soh was smiling and cheerful when she was interview with Mr Tan.
My colleague brought these 2 pies to the office and they were talking about this feud BUT never thought the shops were sitting beside each other! That blew my mind! (Also, honestly, if you never tried their pies before, you won't notice so much difference between the 2!)
I have met with Esther. She is a kindhearted and genuine lady. She has the heart for the orphans in many countries and has a genuine mothers heart. Please get to know her.
Yes. I actually talked to Esther before too. She was telling me she’s tired of this conflict and do not want to escalate the incident. And the old man at Auntie Peng will come and hijack the customer in the line at Dona manis. Auntie Peng has been very aggressive.
I thought this rivalry is so funny and adorable. Both sides are clearly passionate about the business, just from different perspectives. The "feud" is also potentially good for business because people will be curious to try BOTH to see how they are different and which one they prefer. Auntie Peng and Mr. Tan each played to their strengths and that's why they were successful. I hope the daughters can do a collab someday and continue that legacy. I can totally see them investing in a cafe together showcasing a delectable selection of pies, with suggested coffee pairings too, like the sweeter version would go well with a dark, nutty Robusta, while the more subtle flavored one would bring out the best in a lighter, more floral Arabica. It would be wonderful if they could even diversify their products to other styles of pies besides their flagship product, coconut cream, perhaps, or banoffee? Or a limited edition series of pies featuring other types of bananas? Possibilities are endless when people work in harmony.
So Aunty Peng is the one with the original recipe & Mr Tan was the partner that handled the accounts. When he passed on, most likely, Aunty Peng wanted Mr Tan's heirs to continue with the accounts (and her children to continue with her recipe) but Tan's heirs wanted to be involved in the cooking process which irked her so she left to start her own business where she could pass her legacy down to her children. Personally, I don't know how Mr Tan could have the recipe when he wasn't involved in the cooking unless he had been watching Aunty Peng in action all the while & writing it down to pass to his children. The last few times I went there, Aunty Peng's hubby was the one helping her cook, not Mr Tan. From that & the interview, it feels like Aunty Peng wanted the recipes kept within her family.
The best thing about Katong shopping center is that after having a good chicken rice . We get to buy very nice banana pie . Tried both stall to be honest tastes very similar .
Feels like Auntie Peng wasnt agreeable with how the partnership evolved which led to the spat. Ultimately, both her and the grandfather played important roles in the growth of the business. If both stalls were to combine and have both items on their menu, imagine what a hit that would be!
Both are good neighbours Keep up We all loves both neighbours.. ❤❤❤❤ Today .. We buy your side Tomorrow.. We buy the other side.. Happy selling neighbours... 🎉😂❤❤🎉
When customers go to a shop, do they ask for the cook's name or do they look at the signboard? Do we connect the floss bun to breadtalk or the baker at the back? Do we know the bakers at bengawan solo?
We don't, because today's Breadtalk is an over-commercialised company with automation churning out sub-standard products, rather than a small family business where the baker gives their products character, and is often the same person fronting the business to sell to customers. Almost every humble family business started this way.

Obviously Mr. Tan's daughter refuse to let this get into the hand of Peng after her dad's departure. I’d think twice about ordering from someone who has poor personal hygiene even though many ppl say the OG’s pies are better.
Esther’s daughter looks more well-groomed and classier-looking like her mother. She speaks better too, like someone from a rich family. Auntie Peng’s daughter looks like someone from a Chinese-speaking and blue-collared background which her mum is.
yes i agree about the last part. felt so odd and unnecessary.
I have yet to try either of them before but will do so this weekend (hope no queue pls after this episode)
see u in the queue 😅
Definitely worth trying if you go that mall cos it's not commonly available in other mall. Each got it's own selling point.
Of course she has to as they were discussing legacy? Auntie Peng's daughter will inherit from her in future too; that's how it works.
Also, Im excited to see the future of the both shops when the next generation takes over!
another banger from CNA insider
I would say Auntie Peng is what you see is what you get kinda lady - there’s no need to guess what she’s thinking. Esther is more polished and is very careful with her words. She’s more concerned about her image. Either way i don’t really care but i hope both find peace and happiness in their own little creations.
Don't think it's appropriate to say "Mr Tan passed away and caused this feud".

Mr Tan is just a bad luck.
i think it's unfair for auntie Esther to keep insisting that her shop is the "original banana pie".
Haven’t tried any. But will buy auntie’s Peng pie based on this video

Esther is only there to take over the business after her father passed on.
So, she is hardly Original as she claims.
@@nt6253 I used to eat the banana pie before the passing of the co owner and can testify that the taste of auntie peng's is exactly as I remembered it. I will never go back to dona manis.
Nice ep hah! 😂 Can continue doing this series~ I suggest the curry puff brothers' feud at the Hong Lim food centre LOL
Both are delicious pies. I usually visited late in afternoon,, when the pies are selling out, I just buy whichever shops that still have the pie left. I just love both of them ❤️
my favourite part of the video was when the shop needed a banana chart to tell ripeness.
Both daughters seem like nice people! I hope they maintain their friendship regardless of their parents issues.
The mums put their daughter in difficult situation, nevertheless glad the daughters on friendly terms. Each pie has it’s own fans.

They are both right and they can coexist without any resentment. In fact discard the negative feelings and build a warm lasting friendship. I would suggest to combine the shops into one with an equity of 50-50 and name the shop as Dona Peng and leave the business to their daughters.
@@rebelsymphonyorchestra8830don’t be so gullible to believe wat they said. They only tell u wat they want to tell u. Only they know the truth.
What a Feud ,
Oh my Gosh ! I watch this until I run out of my coffee
Both versions are good but I prefer Auntie Peng. Not true that only the younger ones go for Auntie Peng. My friends in their 60s also like Auntie Peng's bec the pie does not get as soggy, holds its shape better.
Maybe the rivalry at the end is just a grand publicity stunt to double their sales. Win-win.
Another conspiracy theory. #bananapieconspiracy
@@celestialstar124 I think you are confused. That is her husband. Uncle Tan is the one at the back at 2:50 in that mothership video.
The last part was such a nice touch. Good job producers and director!
She is the OG banana pie maker and the OG bakery at Katong Mall.
aww. thanks CNA. the ending was really nice. good way to conclude the documentary
> Dona Manis started the product
> Auntie Peng is the original recipe maker
> Esther tweaked the recipe handed to her
🤔
Hmmm...is this in Singapore only? I think i need to visit this when i go there. looks good!
I love this MORE of this please
Seem like Dona manis daughter have a serious issue. The way she talk, you know she talk and act differently in front of partners and media.
Its autie peng's recipe, uncle tan don't bake he only sells. I know because I was there since they opened
and who is the business owner? its not unlike any other business it takes a team to do what it takes to succeed. end of the day is quality and consistency of product. Even original restaurants detoriate over time.
if either of the shop wins, we are honouring the legacy for both the uncle Tan and auntie Peng.
Who’s the bad person? Auntie Peng or Esther? None. Let’s not focus on who is the righteous one. Mr Tan didn’t manage this well but I’m sure he wanted the best for everyone. Let’s hope the two daughters will show the world what real humanity is 🥲

I don't see Auntie Peng trying to hide her bitterness against the other. It is Esther putting up a diplomatic front.
Taste is subjective.

Not gonna lie, after watching this video, I went to both shops to try the banana pie. Honestly, I found them underwhelming.

Now this is the best ad for business - both winning !
1)Being the original doesn’t make it the best
2)I can only see someone with a lot of ego.
(After years of seemingly really good relationship??)
4)Ego makes people petty, I only see one petty person.
5)The daughter was given the shop to continue her father’s legacy, and that’s what she is doing, to her best ability, with or without the “original” baker.
6)The daughter comes across as a pragmatic person, not likely to allow anyone to hold her or her business, hostage.
Aunty Peng was paid her share of the business when she left. I believe she has a share previously.
its the not the boss and the baker. Its the boss and his shareholder who happens to be his baker.

If you tweaked the recipe from the original, that means you are no more the original banana pie right ?

Havent try before, but will buy both la. Support both, dont fight ok.

Could CNA do a similar documentary between the 2 Tai Chong Kok confectionery in chinatown? Tai Chong Kok Hue Kee vs Chop Tai Chong Kok
When customers go to a shop, do they ask for the cook's name or do they look at the signboard? Do we connect the floss bun to breadtalk or the baker at the back? Do we know the bakers at bengawan solo?
You would know the cook/chef if you are a regular.
And you're comparing a family owned small business to a corporation. Pretty silly actually.
We don't, because today's Breadtalk is an over-commercialised company with automation churning out sub-standard products, rather than a small family business where the baker gives their products character, and is often the same person fronting the business to sell to customers. Almost every humble family business started this way.
