Man this is amazing! I just got into the hobby this year and I already have 8 Ts. Your channel is one of the reasons I got into the hobby and your husbandry videos have really helped me with several of my Ts. Thank you!
My daughter squealed when I told her you had a full collection vid! We're huge fans. Keep up the good work. We just got our first OW, a P. vittata, a few weeks ago. We love what you do!
Oh, man...that's awesome! I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a let down. We discussed doing one for so long, and attempted it a couple times, but I was always worried it would be boring. And congrats on your vittata!!! That was my first Pokie and second Old World. I love that species. :) Thanks again!!!
Fantastic video! What an impressive and diverse collection! It’s always a treat to see other folks show off their spiders. Thanks a million for the shout out. Hope you enjoy the little boogers!
Tom I must say, you really do have a very impressive collection, not only in sheer numbers alone, but also with variety and species rarity. I love it man, your like my favorite invertebrate channel out there currently.
E-P-I-C. So pleasant (& distracting) while I edit a thousand photos today. I've only been at this spider thing for less than a year, but really inspired by people like you and Petko.
Thank you so much! I'll have to do another soon, as so much has changed. :) I keep trying to convince my wife that we need to move because I need a bigger tarantula room. haha
Mister moran i have watched almost all of your videos i just watched all of this and WOW!!! im sorry i didnt watch this sooner!!! So awesome to see HOW much stuff you have. Happy new year hopefully see u in 2020
Brilliant spider room, is that the same room you have now? My house is quite small, its the upstairs of a house, made into flats. Has it's own front door & garden tho. Anyway I have a small room, like a box room. It's too big for a cupboard but too small for a bedroom. It has a light, window, electricity sockets & some built in shelfs. I'm trying to empty it, paint it & then put new shelfs in. Then take a gaming chair in & it will be a mini Spider room. I cant wait as my Spideys are all around the living room. Im going to have all my enclosures, true spiders too, equipment and live food in it. Will be amazing as I can shut the door to keep cats & dogs out while I feed & rehouse xx
Hey, Laura! Thank you! This is the room in the old house. The new room is about 3X larger than this one. It's so large that I can have my computer, a chair, and plenty of room for me to work. I'm lucky that I have a very understanding wife that made it a priority that I get more space in my new house. haha
Superb collection video. I'm so pleased to finally see the collection! You were hilarious, as always. Cheese?! Who admits they smell like cheese? 😂 Ok, I'll also admit your video made me a tad anxious because your room is so orderly and tidy. I always feel like a little ball of chaos when I shuffle enclosures. Thank you for putting your passion on video, Tom.
Thanks so much, Jodi! Man, we were SOOOOOOO tired and punchy at the end. And I kept smelling cheese, and I finally realized that it was in my goatee. I had scarfed down some pizza right before we started. It was driving me nuts! haha See, that makes my day. I was so afraid people were going to report me to "Hoarders". haha. We had Tanya over the weekend before, so I HAD to clean it up. Every day is literally like a living game of Tetris here. :) Thanks again, Jodie! :)
I have that same humidifier! Haha love the tour Tom. Might have to get some Phormictopus and Pamphos now. Almost got a petersi over the weekend but the stirmi was calling my name.
Ha! I love that little thing. It'll be time to rev it up real soon. Oh, definitely snag some if you can. You can't lose with either of those genera. Oh, the stirmi was definitely a great grab...congrats.
This is a very clean and awesome T room. Awesome collection! I thought you had the A. Moderatum..hope to see this happens in the near future. Thumbs up!!
Man, this is awesome! :) ❤ I just found you and I am VERY impressed by your collection so far! I have two T's and only a little knowledge. One of the two is a tiny tiny sling. I wish I could be as confident as you are!
Tom Moran I am pretty knew in this hobby. I started with my beautiful LP in October and got a Brachypelma Boehmei Sling yesterday. :) Those are the only ones right now.
Two awesome species! Boehmeis are a blast to raise up. They grow pretty quickly for a Brachypelma species, and they are quite lively (and SOOOO beautiful when they get their colors). :)
Awesome video Tom! So jealous!! Just got a beautiful little P. Rufilata to got with my P. metallica. Watching this makes me want my own room full of pokies :)
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how awesome Tom is for putting the long list of species in the description? Awesome video, certain videos of yours always bring me back. I'm curious if you've gotten any new pamphobeteus species since this? My local store has a Nigricolor that I've been eyeing and I had to save up for it so hopefully they have it still. Unfortunately there aren't that many informational videos on UA-cam though. I feel like many species have very similar care per genus though, but I still feel anxious sometimes even though I know it's an irrational worry. (I can check the good ol boards of course but youtube is always where I start.) I feel absolutely ridiculous for this but there are no words to describe how bummed I get if Tom, TTC, Birdspiders etc don't have any husbandry videos on the species I'm considering. 😅
Hello, Zulema! hahaha Well, you're most welcome! I have to do another one of these soon to show off the new room. And I have P. antinous, P. sp. arana pollito, and P. sp. duran right now. I would keep yours the same as any Pampho. Slings and juvies will dig, so give them some deep moist sub. Adults may do a bit of digging too (my pollito and duran both still dig as adults) so you may want to give them a hide and several inches of sub. I give mine a water dish when they are older and moisten down the sub and let it dry out a bit in between. They are really quite hardy and easy to care for. :)
Great vid Tom. Looks like you have a couple of animals. What are those enclosures at 36:06 that you said were new and you scratched one trying to get a burr off? Those are cool little enclosures.
Thank you, Eric! :) Yeah, I have a few. hahaha Here's where I got them. This company makes a bunch of sizes. I have a larger one, but I have to figure out how I'm going to latch it. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GU90BOE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I love your drinking game i rewinded this video like 8 times lmao got about 25 of my fellow spider loving friends like you wasted lmao you are the best lol
Hi, Clay! I'll be doing one as soon as I finish all of the enclosure and shelving upgrades. I've changed SO MUCH since then. haha. And I'm sure you will...this hobby is ridiculously addictive!
Awesome tour video buddy.. I love how organized everything is in your room..all ur ts /animals look great ..ur b. Albiceps looks to be a b. Vagans. .this Happened to me a couple of years ago I was told I was buying a Albiceps but it turned out to be a Vagans both r beautiful ts but it would be nice to get what we pay for lol ..one again thanks for sharing ur stunning collection...also a big thumbs up to Billie for doing a great job behind the camera ☺.
Hey, Dave! Thanks so much, bud...that means a ton! Yeah, that's what the general consensus is. What a bummer (although she's a good-looking vagans!). haha Glad to know I'm not the only one who got the switcheroo. And Billie said, "Thanks!". :)
Thanks so much, Dana! I got the metal ones on Amazon...let me get a link... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006941Z6E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Keep an eye on the price as they tend to go up and down. When I got mine, it was $54 with free prime shipping. Hope that helps!
Hello, Spider Chick! Thanks so much! Oh, no! What are you watching it on? I just rewatched parts of it with Billie, and it seemed to be lining up. I wonder what's up? UGH. I always play them through completely before posting, and it was fine. :(
Lol me too! Well it works well on iPhone. It doesn’t stop me from watching tho 😀 I love your vids and the information you share. Quite helpful. I do have an oddball request tho. Could you do a vid on trapdoor? Just like a basic care type vid? 😊
Just got my 1/2 inch H. Mac sling Thursday. Finally took the dive & got into the hobby. I thank you Tom for all the advice, information, website & UA-cam channel! @Tom Moran
Rofl excellent video love when you and Billy make me laugh. A lot of cheesy jokes but they are great. Beautiful collection. Makes me jealous a bit. I go through Tetris also when rehousing always fun. I noticed some of your racks are like mine. Did you have to reenforce the wood shelves? I find mine are starting to bow a lil bit. I was thinking of having stronger wood cut to size.
Hahahahaha. Thanks so much, Christine! It's probably a good thing that we lost part of the video, because we got REALLY goofy on that take. We were both very tired and getting punchy at the end. lol And it's funny that you mention those wood shelves. I've been kind of waiting for them to bend. I noticed one of them JUST starting to droop a bit. I will likely cut some stronger stuff for them.
I would love to see an updated version of this in the new room if you haven't already. ❤ Side note: What cleaning products would you recommend as far as whole house and floor cleaners that are safe to use around T's and don't give off any dangerous fumes?
I will definitely do one at some point. I just struggle because I'm always rearranging things! haha Avoid any cleaners with bleach or any type of fumes in the room where the tarantulas are kept. I use only all natural, non toxic cleaners in that area. There are several differnt brands on Amazon that you can check out.
Hey buddy! First of all. I wanna say that i really didn't know how many special family members you had lol. Nice group of T's and scorpions you have my friend. How do you handle of these responsibilities in your head along with other things you do? I know i couldn't manage what you have in your collection and i just have 12 species of my own. I applaud you Tom for all you do and provide here on youtube and great info you have given me in general. As i have told you before. I never and mean never would have thought about getting into this hobby. I didn't know it existed period. Now i do and i am just a simple novice at this along with my son who is way to young to understand it but he see's how much interest i have for it now. I can't see myself having this many T's but a few more i would love to have in my collection though, lol. Tom, thanks for a great video and sharing you home up to all of us. You have one hell of a collection for sure. Keep up the great videos and great knowledge you do provide and thanks so much Tom!
Hey, Michael! Man, I don't think I appreciated how many animals I have until I made that video. haha. Thanks so much! I REALLY enjoy working with them, and I find the feeding/maintenance to be very relaxing, especially after a long day of work. So, it's really easy for me to veg out for a couple hours here and there to work with them. I've always got something going on in that room. Heck, I did 12 rehousings last weekend. :) I honestly didn't ever think I'd have so many either. I had originally planned on 30 or so. Be careful, bud...it's an addictive hobby! The blog and then the UA-cam channel led me to keep buying new and cool species so I could talk about them. That's my excuse at least. Thanks so much again for all of your support and for taking the time to watch these!
Tom Moran.. I get what your saying about it actually being relaxing and having some peace of mind for an hour to 4-5 hours if at that. I like it and I like to educate my son on his T’s on how to feed them, to giving it water or why does it do this or why that. What’s funny is I keep saying to him that you need to start watching some videos with me. But he never does lol I appreciate the passion and interest you have for this hobby. That’s what brings me to your channel. It’s educational and fun to watch and you keep it real. Your honest and that’s what I get from you and I appreciate that. Keep up the great work buddy and thanks for the link to👍🏼
Lovely collection! I spotted two balfouri butts poking out the other day. I love those breeding boxes! Gonna have to make some terrestrial enclosures..but so far no "special terrestrial" (well some are in tubs). And yeah the water dish fillers. My Stirmi has been out and about doing it! But she is skittish n doesn't appreciate my efforts😀 (phormictopus can be notorious n A gens)
I just love your collection Tom! I do have a question for you which I swear has already been answered multiple times. What substrates do you use? I need to switch mine but can't decide on which one.
Hi, Amber...thank you so much! Back then, I used mostly topsoil. I also went through a stage where I used coco fiber (and still do in some enclosures). Now, I tend to use a mix of coco fiber and peat (although I'm phasing out my use of peat) with a little vermiculite mixed in. I also use a lot of the Bio Dude's Terra Aranea.
I’m sorry, what are you referring to as slings?! I don’t know a damn thing about spiders but I’m going through you videos and love what your doing. Super cool collection of crazy pets you have.
Hi, Thomas! So sorry...I always forget that some folks don't know what the heck I'm talking about when I say "slings." It's short for "spiderlings" or baby spiders. Thanks so much!
Wow great collection. Mine is probably only 1/10th the size. One I would recommend for your collection if you haven't gotten one yet is the Sericopelma sp. "Chica". They're new to the hobby, but not overly expensive usually around $50 or so. Common name I think I saw was the "Chocolate Stout" when I did some Google searching for some care advise, but when they're new to the hobby you basically make up the care sheet for everyone else. :P Good thing is they are very hardy and mine seems to prefer the moist side of the substrate. They're terrestrial and don't really web up anything at all, but mine has always been out in the open so I feel it would make for a good show case spider. Mines been skittish and surprisingly curious whenever I open up to feed it or give it some water, but when it comes to feeding its as aggressive if not more so then my GBB. It will teleport from one side of its enclosure to another to catch its prey. Also it has one of the most energetic happy dances out of my entire collection. As for growth rate I've had my sling since May of this year and it's molted twice in my care going from roughly a 1/2 inch to 3/4 of an inch so I'd say maybe a medium growth rate.
I will definitely keep a lookout for the Sericopelma sp. "Chica"! The behavior yours is showing sounds right up my alley. :) Thanks for all of the info...I'm sold! :)
I had gotten mine from Alfie over at Kamelspiders.com at Repticon, but I think at this time he's sold out. Palpfrictiontarantulas.com seems to have a few left, however I've never shopped with them but heard they're pretty good. Speaking of Repticon, do you ever goto conventions/shows looking for tarantulas and other inverts?
Wow great to see the collection tour, what's all the cases on the shelves on the left in the first part of the video? I think you'll end up boxing those for more T space lol. Also as said earlier the B. albiceps isn't one as mine had the blond carapace from very small size!
Hey, John! That's what's left in that room of my DVD/Bluray collection. I already moved the rest upstairs this summer to make more room. Those will be going soon. :) Yup, sounds like I got sent the wrong species. I was hoping that the blonde might come in later, but it's obvious now that it's not the right spider. Ugh. Thanks, bud!
Hi, Nolan! The substrate settled a bit when I first put it in there, and I haven't added more. The enclosure is 8" high and she's over 6" so it's not as high as it may appear. That said, I normally have more in there.
@@nolanboyer6883 Please, you bring up a great point! I watched the video again, and it does look bad. That girl is my baby; I've had her since 1997 and she's the first T I ever got. When I first got that cage several years back, and the coco fiber was much higher then. It's settled quite bit. I TOTALLY got where you were coming from. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Hi can I ask the name of the enclosure @3.30 please? Ps just found the channel and subbed - new to the hobby with 2 scorpions last month, already planning on my first tarantula!
Hi, Jason! Welcome to the hobby, and thanks so much for subscribing! That one is a an Amac box. This should be a link to it. www.amac1960.com/collections/flat-top-packaging/products/765c-cry
@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks Tom, I decided to get 2 slings after watching your slings guide videos which was extremely helpful! I got a 1cm Brachypelma boehmei imported from Mexico and a 1cm Brachypelma albopilosum from Nicaragua (purchased from the Spider shop in the UK). I'm now tempted to get a larger spider while I wait for those to grow, maybe 4-8cm Grammostola pulchra or Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens...ah I want to many!
Super jealous. Amazing collection!! I'm still saving up for some of your babies but I had some car problems so that's going to be a while now not to mention it's winter here in the northwest so I should just wait till the summer
Man, so sorry to hear about the car problems. UGH. I hope you got it sorted out. Yeah, this is it for me until the weather warms up a bit. :) Thanks so much!
Great video Tom, I was holding off on doing a room tour, I felt I don't have enough critters but if I wait any longer I'll have 200+ like you. Lol could be overwhelming! so I think I should now while I'm still low in numbers 53critters in 43 enclosures.
WOW...just realized how long this video is! I LOVE long invert videos and have been wanting to see how extensive your collection is. Although I haven't finished the video yet, I will in just a bit. I am going to Petco and going to see if there are any Ts I can save and add to mine. Absolutely love your videos though, very very caring of your animals and anyone can see that with the way you talk about each specimen. Ill continue and finish watching this video soon...cant wait either lol
Oh, also, is there a way I could email you or message you on Facebook or something? I have a question on a particular species I received from Tanya from FearNotTarantulas.
Yeah, this is a looooonnnngggg one. hahaha. I usually try to keep them shorter, but there was just no way around it with the size of my collection. Thanks so much! Good luck at Petco! :) Oh, and you can email me at tomsbigspiders@outlook.com . :)
Tom Moran no, the H. cafreriana...I recieved one from Tanya...But I have NOT seen hardly any information on them anywhere online. They are a beautiful species and would like to see more on them. Just curious to know if there is anything in particular to know about them?... You can email me at koreylee18@gmail.com.
Hey Tom, great stuff as usual! Always wanted to see your full collection, thanks for sharing. Regarding your unidentified B.albiceps. I can say with much certainty that it is not B.albiceps. I have raised two of them thus far, and the golden carapace is quite prevalent even in the early stages. Mine started sporting it at around the 2'' mark. Unfortunately looks to be B.vagans, as you thought. Must have been some kind of mislabeling mistake, hopefully whoever sold it to you can make it right.
Hello, Roarke! Thanks so much. That ended up being fun to do...well, after we got done sweating. haha And thanks so much for chiming in on the B. albiceps. After the last molt, I was pretty certain it had been mislabeled. What a bummer (although, she IS a pretty one). Time to see where I got her from... Thanks again!
This was a sick video tom I was waiting and waiting patiently for this haha I have my blondi coming this week as it arrived dead when it was meant to come my Bach ma arrived however and it is beautiful you need one haha keep up the good work 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Hey, yonit! Thanks so much, bud! Wait, the blondi is dead? Oh no! Man, that's terrible. I will definitely get one eventually...they are just so darned expensive here!
I am far from being an expert but the brachypelma albiceps you are not sure about reminds me A LOT of our b. epicuraneum we have around Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan peninsula where I live.
Thanks for chiming in, Alexander! Man, the B. epicuraneum is a gorgeous spider! I'll have to compare some pics. My girl has molted again since this video, and she's looking a lot like a vagans. That said, I have no way to be sure! Thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders I found a b. epicuraneum on a carpark between Playa del Carmen and Tulum a few years ago and decided to rescue it from being trampled to death by tourists. Of course I could not confirm the species nor the sex but as I found it there it is highly unlikely that it was another species. Perhaps the pictures in this folder I took back then can help. facebook.com/abuess/media_set?set=a.10203636734622307&type=3
Love the layout, that is just Kick Ass, Still having to wait for my Brazilian Black, World Exotics cannot get one at this time, so I'm sourcing other suppliers
Yea i Know and Tarantulas Canada has them in stock and breeding them, but they are not shipping til Jan 15, 2018. Dang it never fails lol www.tarantulacanada.ca/news.php
It very much looks like I am waiting till January to get Her. Well kind of had a feeling this would happen. But World Exotic has a female sub Red Knee and just got in today a possible sub male red rump. I'll know more when I get out there on my day off.
Thanks Tom - appreciated, your collection is looking superb, however I didn't see any Earth Tigers - Ornithoctoninae - Omothymus, Lampropelma, love the Omothymus genus, I have an O. schioedtei - looking stunning, I think (as they are so reclusive) that she almost doubled her DLS - I am erring on the side of female as she has no green to her, which I'm lead to believe means I have a female, hopefully. Your dedication to over 200 animals is awesome, amazing collection.
Hi, Michael! Thanks so much, bud. I DO have a Lampropelma sp. "Borneo Black" (it's up with the arboreals!) and the violaceopes was next to the A. metallica. I was SO hoping to catch her out, as she's been a little less shy lately. I was having the worst time getting some of them to appear for the video. Fingers crossed that you have a lady! I know how that is...I have a few that I'm thinking girl, but I really want to know for sure. :) Thanks so much!!!
Can't wait to get out of work to finish watching to see your collection. Exciting to see. Is that a pile of molts in the left hand corner behind the assassin bugs?
i will be getting my first two Ts (T. albopilosum and B. vagans) soon and i was just wondering how you decide the size of the enclosure? there seems to be a lot of variation with some similar sized T's in pretty different sizes. is bigger better with the older T's or how do you decide?
Hi, Lauren! Congrats on your acquisitions! There honestly isn't a standard when it comes to enclosures sizes, and most of us just figure out a size that works best for us (and the spider). I like to start tiny slings (less than .5" or so) in a dram bottle as it allows them to find food and for me to keep track of them better. Larger slings do well in something 16 oz. or so. As a rule of thumb, you want something small for slings, and then after they get establish and hit the "juvenile" cage, you can get them into something bigger. What size are the ones you are getting?
Congrats on your G. rosea! That's awesome! I have a system where I feed slings twice a week, and then work my way through all of the racks one at a time.
I'm just saying, I watch a lot of your videos, and with every video I am more impressed by the beautiful T's you have! My collection is just starting to get close to my number (for now), but soon I hope to delve in to breeding as well. Any advice would be appreciated!
Haha Thank you so much! I'm lucky that I have the room to keep this many. :) I will try to put together a breeding video. I DID do a podcast on what to think about when deciding to breed...
2 years ago I considered the concept of spiders as pets asinine. Then I met a friend who had a pet Brachypelma Smithi. I now have 2 T's myself Mitzy my Brachypelama boehmei and Bitzy my Acanthoscurria Geniculata. Tarantulas are Very Addictive. Love them! :) Theraphosidae I found are such a fascinating species and am now considering my next "T"
They really don't scream "this is an awesome pet!", that's for sure. haha. I totally get it. I've seen folks who think I'm nuts totally soften their stances on them once they see a few. Yes, they are terribly addictive! haha Thanks for chiming in! :)
You have an amazing collection and wife, lol. I wrote down quite a few I'm interested in getting. Gotta love those poeci's poo and all. I must be a spider booty perv to because I love taking pix of my pink zebra beauty when she's tunneled down as far as she can but her little booty is sticking up. I get a kick out of it. She's a little sweetie I got from Tanya a couple weeks ago along with my other sweetie G Pulchripes. I have a couple more coming from her Tues. I can't wait, lol..loved the video. You and Billy do great work!!! Tyfs God bless
Thanks so much, Debbie! I lucked out with Billie...I couldn't do these things without her (and I'm sure she doesn't always feel like holding the camera after a long day of work. lol) Nothing like a little pokie poo! And I get a kick out of that, too! haha That's not weird, right? ;) I got my two PZBs from Tanya as well. I have to rehouse them soon! And congrats on your incoming G. pulchripes as well. LOVE that species. Thanks again!!! :)
Tom Moran No. I already have the gp. He's had himself barricaded in for almost two weeks now. He's a tiny little booger. He's hopefully molting. I'm getting a Eulthus species red and a avic braunshauseni Tues. First avic I've had. I'm really nervous about both of them. The Eulthus species red is only 1/4 in I believe. Hard to feed from what I have heard from some. Yup, that's how you know your better half loves you when they work all day and then spend loads of time holding a camera for you, lol. Hold onto her fr 🤗😂
Whoops! Misread that! Three of my gps started off as tiny slings, and they all buried themselves during the winter. It used to freak me out. The first two I raised took almost 7 months off eating the first year I had them. Don't be surprised if your little one pops out in April ready to eat. That's what mine did! :) And that's for sure! haha. We've been together for 24 years, so I think we've decided to hold on to each other. :)
Tom Moran You're positive he's not dead?? It's all I can do is to keep from digging him out. That's awesome about you and Billie!!! That's a long time..hang in there no matter what..🤗🤗🤗
I mean, I can't be 100% positive, but three of mine did the exact same thing. I was positive they must have died, but they reemerged in April! :) I think that they're probably fine. :)
If your C. versicolor has a sac, can I get dibs on a sling? xD I had one as my 2nd T, unfortunately lost him a couple months back to an unsuccessful molt. :( Very nice video, love your collection. Definitely one of, if not my favorite T UA-camr. Keep up the great work, Tom!
Enjoy your videos! I do have one question though. What brand of housing is the acrylic containers with the black top, clear opening on top, and on the side of the lid. I like those containers.
Help, just have a newb question. I live in a hundred year old farm house that uses heating fuel for heating the house. It's expensive!! Because of this, we drop our heat down to 59 for the bulk of the day and only turn it up to 63 when we are home. I have noticed that my Avic avic has stopped eating this last month. He molted in early December, ate 1 post molt cricket and has refused food since. Will tarantulas stop eating if the temp drops to cold? I know that supplemental harmful is a no no, but in his case, should I use a small heat mat? Thank you! Love your channel and podcast. I have a 50 minute work commute and your podcasts make it fly by. Would love an episode on terrestrial species that don't hide.
Hello, Jamie! Yeah, temps that low might be problematic for some species...particularly Avics. Species in that genus tend to react poorly to very low temperatures. Is there any way you could used a space heater (I know...those are pricey as well. ugh). If not, then you will have to look at alternate heating sources. How large are the spiders we are talking about? Let me know, and we can take it from there. And thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders thank you, I was afraid of that. We use a space heater when we are home but turn it off when we leave the house. Right now he is a juvenile, maybe about 3 inches.
@@jamielovesjohn The best way to heat is by heating a larger tank with a heat mat and putting the smaller enclosure inside that. If that won't work, you'd want to mount a heat mat to a piece of foam (keeps the heat going one direction) and affix that to a wall near the side of the tank. You'll then want to experiment a bit to make sure that you position the enclosure far enough away that it doesn't get too hot.
Hi Tom, this is a bit of a random question but do you think a medium sized Kritter Keeper be appropriate to house a 2½" Grammostola Grossa in or would that be too small?
Were those the exo terra small breeder boxes? With the black lids? www.amazon.com/dp/B001B596PI/ref=sxr_rr_xsim_3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3008523062&pd_rd_wg=uP0YQ&pf_rd_r=QY4AAYZF3FN8TV5K254M&pf_rd_s=desktop-rhs-carousels&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B001B596PI&pd_rd_w=9Z2AY&pf_rd_i=exo+terra+breeding+box&pd_rd_r=5d83b750-08b6-47bc-9aa1-089410dc0710&ie=UTF8&qid=1512257618&sr=3 I did NOT pay that much for them. They tend to go up and down on Amazon. I pick them up when they are around $10.
I know this is an older video, so you may not even see this... but if you do, do you know if the Exo Terra Breeding Boxes are still being made and sold? If not, are the Faunariums a decent substitute or would you recommend just using the critter keeper brand?
What type of centipedes do you have that are living together? That’s interesting. Might you be getting a Singapore blue? I had one many years back, but it was a male and didn’t last long. Those have to be one of the edgiest arboreals in the hobby. I just got my first M. balfori, and that thing is a handful. It’s right up there with my Himalayan earth tiger or a P. cambridgei. Extremely skittish! The Himalayan species from Nepal make interesting fossorial editions to any growing collection. IMO.
Hi! I'm new to the hobby. I have this Grammostola Porteri Sling about a size of a match head. I've been power feeding it 2 to 3 times a week so it will get out of that sling stage as soon as possible. Is okay to feed it that way or should I only feed it once a week. I have a bigger tarantula who is a 3 inches female B. Smithi or Hamorii as they say it has been renamed that I only feed once a week.
Hello! Unfortunately, although you can definitely feed this specie frequently, it won't result in faster growth. Instead, you'll usually end up with much longer fasts in between molts. For example, I fed my sling three times a week for about a month. It then took the next six months off from eating. You won't hurt it by feeding it that much, but you won't get the growth you're hoping for. I got my G. rosea sling (almost identical to porteri) over three years ago as a .4" baby. It's now only 1.25".
Tom Moran Tom Moran man that's a very slow growth. Okay I'll stop power feeding it now, I rather see it eat once a week than every few months. I wonder how they were able breed this slow growing species, I bought it from a breeder. Thank you as always. You are one of the best UA-camr who teach about arachnids, not that Jungle Bob who is pretending to be an expert in tarantula advicing people to put heat pad on their tarantula and buy water container with a foam.
Those are the Exo Terra breeding boxes. They come in small, medium, and large sizes. As long as you don't put small slings in these, they are escape proof. :)
Man this is amazing! I just got into the hobby this year and I already have 8 Ts. Your channel is one of the reasons I got into the hobby and your husbandry videos have really helped me with several of my Ts. Thank you!
Thank you! It's been a looooonnngggg time coming. haha And thanks so much for the kind words. :)
30 year old spider? Holy shit you must be an very experienced and LOVING keeper. right on brother
Ben, what's your daughter's name? :)
Thanks so much, bud! I really appreciate that! I have to do one of these tours again real soon, as I've changed a lot around. :)
Hey Tom, Congrats on your G.Porteri. That's a tremendous achievement for you both. She's gorgeous!
Thank you so much! :)
You have a lot of beautiful specimens. I love them all. It is really worth the wait for this video bro.
Hello, Efer! Thanks so much, bud!
Tom Moran diamtesis is really awesome. Sadly they are not available here. And even if it will be available I really think it will cost a lot of money.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thank YOU for commenting and watching, Matt!
It's very nice, with your smooth fine videos. Always a pleasure to watch.
Best wishes.
Bo
Ha! Thanks so much, Bo! Very much appreciated! :)
Wow, what an incredible collection!!! I could not agree more about the P.murinus. Mine is a little skittish and defensive, but not aggressive at all.
Hello, Patrick. Thank you! Yes, they get such a nasty rep. Skittish and defensive? Yes? Evil and aggressive? Heck, no. :)
this video made me tired!... I'm sure this was a lot to film but much appreciated!
It made ME tired to make...and it made me sweaty. It was HOT in there! haha Thanks so much!
E-P-I-C. So pleasant (& distracting) while I edit a thousand photos today. I've only been at this spider thing for less than a year, but really inspired by people like you and Petko.
Thousands of photos? Dear lord! hahaha I hope it went well. :) Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words. :)
Brilliant idea with the slings in larger tub to hold the moisture
Thanks! That setup has really given me more piece of mind during the dry winter months! :)
Excellent room tour! You have sooo many different species! You definitely need a larger room! I could just sit in there for hours and watch them. 👍🏻
Thank you so much! I'll have to do another soon, as so much has changed. :) I keep trying to convince my wife that we need to move because I need a bigger tarantula room. haha
Thanks so much Tom.. awesome T. Room. It's great you have that hobby.
Thanks so much, Ed! Yeah, that room is my happy place. haha
Loving the videos Tom! keep it up nice collection
Thank you, Exogen! :)
Great video! So many amazing T's.
Thank you so much, Brooks!
Amazing video! I'm planning on getting a G. Pulchra soon for my first T. I love your videos
The G. pulchra is a great species! :) Thank you!
Mister moran i have watched almost all of your videos i just watched all of this and WOW!!! im sorry i didnt watch this sooner!!! So awesome to see HOW much stuff you have. Happy new year hopefully see u in 2020
Ha! I have to redo this one...SO MUCH has changed over the past couple years! Thanks, bud...and Happy New Year!
Great video....as always. Can't imagin the work needed to take care for all that pets.....respect!!!
I'm lucky that I have a very understanding wife that made it a priority that I get more space in my new house. haha
Aww brilliant. Your wife sounds amazing, I bet she loves the spiders too xx
Superb collection video. I'm so pleased to finally see the collection!
You were hilarious, as always. Cheese?! Who admits they smell like cheese? 😂
Ok, I'll also admit your video made me a tad anxious because your room is so orderly and tidy.
It was driving me nuts! haha
See, that makes my day. I was so afraid people were going to report me to "Hoarders". haha. We had Tanya over the weekend before, so I HAD to clean it up. Every day is literally like a living game of Tetris here. :)
Thanks again, Jodie! :)
Finally it's here absolutely loved the video enjoyed every minute phenomenal collection you have thanks for sharing :)
Ha! Thanks so much! Yeah, this one was a looooonnngggg time coming, which bit me in the butt as I just kept getting more animals. haha
Definetly the best tarantula room tour! Beautiful t's and fun to watch :)
Thanks so much, bud! That one was a long time coming. :)
Love the video tom! It's great for a newbie like myself to learn all these different species.
Thanks so much! I'll have to do another one of these soon, as a lot has changed since then. :)
This is a very clean and awesome T room. Awesome collection! I thought you had the A. Moderatum..hope to see this happens in the near future. Thumbs up!!
Thanks so much! This was quite the undertaking. haha. I'm starting to grab up the Aphonopelmas more now. It's only a matter of time. :)
Man, this is awesome! :) ❤
I just found you and I am VERY impressed by your collection so far! I have two T's and only a little knowledge. One of the two is a tiny tiny sling. I wish I could be as confident as you are!
Thank you so much! Which Ts do you currently keep? :)
Tom Moran I just found her molt. ^-^ So that was the problem!
Awesome video Tom! So jealous!! Just got a beautiful little P. Rufilata to got with my P. metallica. Watching this makes me want my own room full of pokies :)
Thanks so much, Michael! Congrats on your rufie! :) I still have a couple more species of pokies to get. :)
This was so amazing. I am speechless.
Wow...thanks so much! :)
Love your incubator method. Can you share more info on it? My basement gets cold in the winter... thanks a bunch!!!!
Hello, Ricardo! First off, so sorry for the very late response. Yes, I can definitely do a video on that! Thank you!
Awww the Queeen! I’ve never seen her, only heard you talk
about her. Nice.
Man, I miss that girl!
(I can check the good ol boards of course but youtube is always where I start.)
I feel absolutely ridiculous for this but there are no words to describe how bummed I get if Tom, TTC, Birdspiders etc don't have any husbandry videos on the species I'm considering.
:) Yeah, I have a few. hahaha
Here's where I got them. This company makes a bunch of sizes. I have a larger one, but I have to figure out how I'm going to latch it.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GU90BOE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
oh nice. i might have to get me some of these, and i've been looking for a good place to get acrylic boxes forever now. thanks for the link!
maybe not acrylic but good clear plastic anyway :)
I love your drinking game i rewinded this video like 8 times lmao got about 25 of my fellow spider loving friends like you wasted lmao you are the best lol
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA Did anyone need his or her stomach pumped? lmao
Came very very close lmao couldn't keep up with you we had to pause the video a couple of times just to pour the drinks lol
Almost time for another room tour man you have an amazing collection and hopefully one day I’ll have half as good of a collection for myself
Vagans. .this
Happened to me a couple of years ago I was told I was buying a Albiceps but it turned out to be a Vagans both r beautiful ts but it would be nice to get what we pay for lol ..one again thanks for sharing ur stunning collection...also a big thumbs up to Billie for doing a great job behind the camera ☺.
Hey, Dave! Thanks so much, bud...that means a ton! Yeah, that's what the general consensus is. What a bummer (although she's a good-looking vagans!). haha Glad to know I'm not the only one who got the switcheroo. And Billie said, "Thanks!". :)
Fantastic collection their mate! So many beautiful species, the Balfouri is my favourite (send some over here 😂 🕷)
The balfouris are amazing. :) Hahaha. will do! ;) Thanks so much!
Thanks for such a long and awesome video! Also awesome tattoo!
Thanks so much for watching, Sergio! :) And thanks for the kind words on my tat!
I appreciate the amount of time you put into your videos. I am a detail oriented person and enjoy good detail information.
Thanks so much, Queen Isabella! :) I try to make them informative (although this one was really just show and tell. :) ).
I love your videos. What shelving systems do you use? Beautiful collection :).
Thanks so much, Dana!
I got the metal ones on Amazon...let me get a link...
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006941Z6E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Keep an eye on the price as they tend to go up and down. When I got mine, it was $54 with free prime shipping. Hope that helps!
Tom Moran awesome :). Thank you!
that's a nice cup of water
I thought so as well.
Love Love Love your collection. Same with all your videos! There is a lag with your voice tho. Not sure if you noticed or if it is just me lol 🙂
Hello, Spider Chick! Thanks so much!
Oh, no! What are you watching it on? I just rewatched parts of it with Billie, and it seemed to be lining up. I wonder what's up? UGH. I always play them through completely before posting, and it was fine. :(
I am using my iPad. Maybe it’s just mine or the service as I am in the middle of nowhere 😊
Crud, not that I wish you ill with your iPad, but I hope it's that. hahaha. ;)
@Tom Moran
Congratulations! I just rehoused my big girl. :) And thanks so much!
@Tom Moran You very welcome sir, good day!
You have a great one as well! :)
@Tom Moran last thing, I got my T from Jamie's Tarantula. After watching your Sling videos part 1 & 2. Again, thank you Mr. Moran
That's awesome! You're in great hands with Jamie. A good portion of my collection came from her. :)
this video is great! my two faves are m. balfouri and b. albopilosum
Thank you very much! Those are two awesome species. :)
We were both very tired and getting punchy at the end. lol
And it's funny that you mention those wood shelves. I've been kind of waiting for them to bend. I noticed one of them JUST starting to droop a bit. I will likely cut some stronger stuff for them.
Tom you guys are great goofy lol. You are very welcome. That was my plan with those shelves. Can't wait for the next video!!
I would love to see an updated version of this in the new room if you haven't already. ❤
Side note: What cleaning products would you recommend as far as whole house and floor cleaners that are safe to use around T's and don't give off any dangerous fumes?
I will definitely do one at some point. I just struggle because I'm always rearranging things! haha Avoid any cleaners with bleach or any type of fumes in the room where the tarantulas are kept. I use only all natural, non toxic cleaners in that area. There are several differnt brands on Amazon that you can check out.
@@TomsBigSpiders Hi Tom, I have been looking on Amazon and I found a few all natural cleaners, do you have any specific cleaners that you recommend?
Thanks for everything you do
Thank you! :)
Nice collection dude
Thanks so much, Ed!
Great collection tom, that’s what I call paradise 👍🏽
Hahahaha. Thanks so much, Lee! That right there is my happy place. hahaha
Oh! I must ask where did you get you metal shelves at for storage?
I get them from Amazon. He're's a link:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006941Z6E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
But he never does lol
I appreciate the passion and interest you have for this hobby.
@@TomsBigSpiders thank you! I'm gonna have to check out bio dudes and look into vermiculite!😊
Yup, sounds like I got sent the wrong species. I was hoping that the blonde might come in later, but it's obvious now that it's not the right spider. Ugh. Thanks, bud!
Oh man this is awesome!!!!! Amazing tarantulas!!
Hey, bud! Thanks so much! :)
I promised Billie this would only take 5 minutes. 😂😂😂 Billie you are the best sport.
hahaha She REALLY is!
Could you explain why there is so little substrate at 2:00? Looks like a fall would really hurt.
Hi, Nolan! The substrate settled a bit when I first put it in there, and I haven't added more. The enclosure is 8" high and she's over 6" so it's not as high as it may appear. That said, I normally have more in there.
Tom Moran I stand corrected! It’s nice to see you care enough to comment on year old videos, have a nice day! :)
Awesomeness! Sooo cool !🕷🕸🖤👍
Oh, wow...this is an old one! I have to do an update this summer on the new room.
Loved this video, Tom. Quite impressive for an X arachnophobic.
Thanks so much! I'm pretty proud that I went from being terrified of spiders to having a room full of them to help me relax. :)
How did you get over the fear? Was it a slow process?
Amazing collection! Gorgeous T´s :)
Thank you so much Karolina! :)
Excellent! When will your emperors be in and where are they coming from? Fingers crossed my breeding was successful.
They're in, I just haven't finished setting up the new enclosure yet! I think they show up later in the video. Fingers crossed, bud!!!!
Great video Tom, I was holding off on doing a room tour, I felt I don't have enough critters but if I wait any longer I'll have 200+ like you. Lol could be overwhelming! so I think I should now while I'm still low in numbers 53critters in 43 enclosures.
Do it now! hahahaha. I should have done it a while ago when I had far fewer. lol Thanks so much!
lol I plan it out
Wow and here I am with 4-5” of substrate for stirmi juvenile I don’t need that much I guess. Love your videos
Actually, I think that you're keeping them great! This was a long time ago, and I now give my Theraphosa species much deeper substrate! Thank you!
Oh, and you can email me at tomsbigspiders@outlook.com . :)
17:57...that's the one I have question about
The T. psychedelicus? That was #1 on my wishlist for a while. :) My wife just picked me up those ones for Christmas (an early gift :) ).
That ended up being fun to do...well, after we got done sweating. haha
And thanks so much for chiming in on the B. albiceps. After the last molt, I was pretty certain it had been mislabeled. What a bummer (although, she IS a pretty one). Time to see where I got her from... Thanks again!
Tom Moran My pleasure bud! And I totally feel you there man, she's still gorgeous, but unfortunatley isn't B.albiceps.
Well, looks like B. albiceps is back on my wishlist! haha
Tom Moran yeah unfortunately I've got a replacement coming however so just waiting on that and no probs 👍🏾
Love the collection, subbed - professional looking channel :)
Thanks so much! And right back at you...amazing animals you have there! :)

Nice to see they all have a water dish 😊
Thanks, Dana!
Sit down have a beer and watch! Watch! Watch! Thanks for sharing Tom 👊🕷
Noriv!!!! Thanks so much, bud!
Norvis Eight legged Critters 😂 cheers
Love the layout, that is just Kick Ass, Still having to wait for my Brazilian Black, World Exotics cannot get one at this time, so I'm sourcing other suppliers
Thanks so much, Bruce! Man, that species has been scarce lately. Slings are going for $90 now!
Yea i Know and Tarantulas Canada has them in stock and breeding them, but they are not shipping til Jan 15, 2018. Dang it never fails lol
www.tarantulacanada.ca/news.php
Oh, man...so they are rare up there, too? Yikes! At least they're breeding them! :)
Thanks so much, Michael! :)
Thanks so much!!!
Can't wait to get out of work to finish watching to see your collection. Exciting to see. Is that a pile of molts in the left hand corner behind the assassin bugs?
Ha! Thank you, Meg! Hahahaha. Yes, those are old molts. bahaha
Great video. Showed my hubby your room dedicated to your collection. He said we were good at 3...time will tell. Hahaha
Bahahaha! Yeah, he needs to know that your collection could turn into this. :) Thanks again!!!!
Awesome that you put value on your G. porteri.
If I could only keep one, she'd be it. :)
Love all of your vids, how many Ts do you have right now ?😍💖
Thank you so much! Right now, I'm around 200. :)
Nice videos always look forward to watching your vids btw nice carpet python lol
Hey, Ryan! Thank you! :) Ha! I was wondering if anyone spotted the snakes. :)
Off the tong challenge with snakes huh 😂
i will be getting my first two Ts (T. albopilosum and B. vagans) soon and i was just wondering how you decide the size of the enclosure? there seems to be a lot of variation with some similar sized T's in pretty different sizes. is bigger better with the older T's or how do you decide?
@@TomsBigSpiders thank you for responding! this is very helpful. the albo is 3/4"-1" and the vagans is 1 1/2"
And im sitting here with my very first tarantula i got 3 days ago- a brachypelma albopilosum sling 😂😂😂
Congratulations! That's a great species. :) Be careful...I only had one for a while, too. ;)
Tom Moran yeah i know what you mean. I already fell in love with'em. And huge thanks to you because your website helped me a lot.
It's an incredibly addictive hobby. :) And thanks so much!
Thank u....! How do u keep track of who has eaten and who hasn't? My G. rosea is pushing 23yrs.... she was my first...😁🕷
Congrats on your G. rosea! That's awesome! I have a system where I feed slings twice a week, and then work my way through all of the racks one at a time.
Wow awesome collection, you gotta get a megaphobema robustum tho
Thanks so much! And I have one coming once the weather warms up. :)
Tom Moran mine arrived a few weeks back and he/she is an amazing eater, if you make a video about them I'll make sure to watch it.
I didn't realize you were in CT. Keep me in mind when you start breeding stuff. I am in Torrington. :)
Will do! I'm in Plainfield! :)
Love them! :)
Theraphosidae I found are such a fascinating species and am now considering my next "T"
They really don't scream "this is an awesome pet!", that's for sure. haha. I totally get it. I've seen folks who think I'm nuts totally soften their stances on them once they see a few. Yes, they are terribly addictive! haha Thanks for chiming in! :)
Awesome collection buddy some nice ones you're got there I've only got 43 at the moment but like yours it's a work in progress!
Thanks so much, bud! You'll have as many as me in no time.
I lucked out with Billie...I couldn't do these things without her (and I'm sure she doesn't always feel like holding the camera after a long day of work. lol)
Nothing like a little pokie poo! And I get a kick out of that, too! haha That's not weird, right? ;)
I got my two PZBs from Tanya as well.
And that's for sure!
If your C. versicolor has a sac, can I get dibs on a sling? xD
I had one as my 2nd T, unfortunately lost him a couple months back to an unsuccessful molt. :(
Very nice video, love your collection. Definitely one of, if not my favorite T UA-camr. Keep up the great work, Tom!
Of course! :) Hopefully, she's bred.
Awwwww...I'm so sorry to hear that. :(
And thank you so much....I really appreciate it! :)
Enjoy your videos! I do have one question though. What brand of housing is the acrylic containers with the black top, clear opening on top, and on the side of the lid. I like those containers.
Thanks so much, Jim! Those are Exo Terra Breeding Boxes. Here's a video where I talked about them. ua-cam.com/video/gnReM4vhvfc/v-deo.html
Thank you Tom.
@@TomsBigSpiders Thank you, will give the second option a try as he is in a 10 gallon now. 😊 I appreciate the help.
Hi Tom, this is a bit of a random question but do you think a medium sized Kritter Keeper be appropriate to house a 2½" Grammostola Grossa in or would that be too small?
Hi, Brittani! As long as you put a few inches of substrate in it, it should work just fine!
Where can I get the terrariums with the colourful lids? Thanks
Hi, Coraline! These? www.petmountain.com/product/lees-kritter-keeper-with-lid?variant=19759
On the last shelf where are you getting those square super clear square boxes that you have The P.sazimai in?
Were those the exo terra small breeder boxes? With the black lids?

I did NOT pay that much for them. They tend to go up and down on Amazon. I pick them up when they are around $10.
They looked all clear and you said you just got them and really liked them the breeder boxes have the black lid I think these were all clear.
inspirational room.
Thank you, JC!
I know this is an older video, so you may not even see this... but if you do, do you know if the Exo Terra Breeding Boxes are still being made and sold? If not, are the Faunariums a decent substitute or would you recommend just using the critter keeper brand?
Hello! I was going to say yes, but nobody seems to have them. Yikes! Yes, the Faunariums work great as well!
@@TomsBigSpiders Wonderful, thank you! We have a few Faunariums on the way now!
What are your enclosures with the black lids and the snapping clear openings? Do you ever have problems with any of your enclosures being escapable?
Those are the Exo Terra breeding boxes. They come in small, medium, and large sizes. As long as you don't put small slings in these, they are escape proof. :)
@@TomsBigSpiders I have an escape artist and have been looking for an appropriate home. Thank you
