In a LOT of ways, especially when you consider the multiple and varied venues he raced and was successful in ... there's Mario ... and then there's everyone else.
You could make a case for AJ Foyt, Jim Clark, Surtees (for winning on 2 wheels) and Graham Hill, but Mario has to be the greatest all rounder of all time
Nowadays it takes more time and effort to be great in a single racing series. To do it over multiple is super rare. Imo the greatest drivers ever will be Clark, G.Hill, Senna and Alonso. Those 4 were something else and Alonso is still doing it even though he is on the wrong side of 40
I spent some valuable time with my Italian friend Mario today ...he is in his 80's ...happy guy ...we had a lot of laughs ...made me think of Andretti 😅
Same with me! I loved Donohue's book "The Unfair Advantage," as it gave inside looks of Roger Penske's early years as a team owner; and Mark didn't pull punches when it came to the shortcomings of the cars & equipment he had dealt with. The chapter on the Ferrari 512M was a favorite of mine . . . it showed that Ferrari was its own worst enemy when it came to its lack of sports car successes with the 512.
One of the best for sure........ but can anyone think of a driver who has won.......Indy car races............Nascar races.........CanAm races.......Transam races.......Lemans......... and in F1 with his own team and car of his design.............I can only think of one person to do that...............Dan the man.
Ronnie, or Mad Ronald as Mike Hailwood called him, was a more flamboyant driver not a better one. He was a great and honourable bloke and sadly missed.
Ronnie was a very obedient driver the reason both chapman and Andretti liked him, if mario cannot make it to the finish Ronnie is a secondary weapon, but he unfortunately left us. We would never seen any driver like ronnie.
Ronnie was wonderful, but he couldn't set up a car. Andretti did most of the development work on the Lotus. Everyone in the team (including Ronnie) acknowledged the car would not have been what it was without Mario's input. Ronnie owes more to Mario than Mario owes to Ronnie, and I love Ronnie Peterson. But that's the truth.
I'm sure that if he stayed in Italy, and if you payed attention the video, his home town became part of the Czech Republic, meaning he would have grown up under the Soviet Regime, yeah your right ZX, America had ZERO to do with his success.
F1 history can be peculiar with some inconsistencies; in that there are eras people will focus on, with not taking into account, nor acknowledging, the earlier eras; which is understandable considering the technological leaps there's been in F1. Take for example the Autosport UA-cam video about the Top 5 McLaren F1 cars; as their presentation made it look like McLaren wasn't a competitive F1 team prior to 1988; *_and astoundingly,_* the video _NEVER_ mentioned the M7A racer from 1968; that was Bruce McLaren's successful breakthrough F1 car; not only being his first F1 car to give him a victory as a owner/constructor, but also being in that rare strata of being a F1 GP winning driver of a car of his own make; which took place at Spa in 1968. Furthermore, McLaren teammate Denny Hulme drove the M7A competitively in that season, winning in Italy and being victorious in the 1-2 McLaren sweep at the Canadian GP that same season; with the McLaren team finishing second in the constructor's championship that year. Yet, Autosport didn't consider the M7A a top 5 McLaren F1 car?! The car that gave the McLaren team their first F1 win!
Because he won in nearly every other series, which virtually no drivers manage to do (hint - this is why it’s called ALL ROUNDER not F1 ONLY you moron)
The head of the greatest dynasty in racing?

The unsers are a better racing family.

Andretti won the Indy 500, Daytona 500, won the Formula 1 Championship and came in second at Lemans. Can't get much better.
How bout 3 Sebring wins and a Daytona 24 hours too?
Mario's great but Aj Foyt's career is just a stellar, to me more so.
@@andyhamilton8940 Yes.
@@McLeod917 Hard to argue. They were both great!
He did win his class at Le Mans when he came second overall! Pity that doesn't count for the Triple Crown.

He's the World's greatest all-rounder. Look at his career.

A shame we don't see more drivers doing this anymore.......Being successful in several disciplines is a sign of true talent.
The different racing disciplines are so specialized today.
Simply the best!!
You ARE a very lucky boy! Great video. Thanks.
My Childhood hero. And the JPS Lotus
viva Andretti
I ADORE Mario
Mario is a Icon Legend.
Mark Donohue will always be my favorite American driver.
Same with me!

I Love Mario "Just Go !!!"

Love this series!
Really enjoyed................ 👍👍👍
मारियो एंड्रेटी और करुण चंडोक साक्षात्कार , बहुत सुन्दर।

Aj foyt people! 7 indycar champs, 4 500 wins, daytona, and le mans. 96 race wins in total. The all time great
FUN FACT: Mario Andretti was born and raised in Motovun CROATIA until he was 8 years old !! 😎👍
Which was Italy when he was born
Can't believe he got to drive that car !
If auto racing were in the Olympics, Mario would have more medals than Phelps.
Not only America's.
Ronnie was a better driver but he was completely dedicated to being a perfect team mate.
Ronnie, or Mad Ronald as Mike Hailwood called him, was a more flamboyant driver

More like Italy's greatest all round driver
Mario was the Italian sir Stirling Moss
He said repeatedly, even in this interview that he is Italian born, but that he considers himself 100% American

Mario has lived in the US since he was a 13 year old boy.
Aren't they all round?
People now understanding who the best of all time is ?
Debatable. America has so many Great drivers that they could field the whole F1 Grid and you would see faster lap times and better racing
Maestri not maestros
🙄

No those cars are flying with shot guns, riffles behind.
1 - Foyt, 2- Donahue, 3- Andretti.
How about Dan Gurney or Tony Stewart?
@@patrickanderson9023 Stewart is the best imo.
Andretti is italian, not american
He was born in Italy, but he has been a naturalised US citizen since 1964.
He raced as an American
He is American.
@@crazydrummer181 just no
@@mototommy07 yes. America is made of people from different ethnicities. An Italian qoth American citizenship counts as an American
He's not even top 20 in F1 history 😂 I don't understand the hype
