  • Mario Andretti describes fleeing Italy as a refugee in World War II and his early days in America. He details his first foray into racing stateside, which leads to stories about hiding his racing endeavors from his dad, faking paperwork with his twin brother Aldo, and creating narratives that made it all the way back to the press in Italy.

Andrew did a great job! Mario was laughing through much of the interview. IMHO Andrew got the tidbits about Aldo (RIP) and Mario did not have to explain those historical facts that a good interview should contain. Andrew was very well prepared. The pace of their conversation was never slowed due to unfamiliarity with the Andretti legend.

I love the way Mario explains the opportunity opening up when they moved to the US. Great interview.

Along with Gilles Villeneuve, Mario Andretti is certainly the most likeable and authentic man in the history of motorsport. His modest origins certainly have a lot to do with it. Long life to his person.

Andrew, you did an excellent job! You did your homework and Mario (National and World Treasure) responded, what fun! When I hear pundits and drivers talk about the greatest drivers of all time, I cringe when the names Hamilton, Verstappen or Senna come up. Never again will the greatest drivers of a generation have to face the strife, toil and danger than Mario and A.J. and Gurney and McLaren faced, not even close. Today's best drivers are immensely talented for sure, but their metal will never be tested like Mario showing up at Daytona and driving tail out for 500 miles to win, or putting Ferrari on the pole in his first drive or mastering fire breathing sprint cars on dirt. These are the first wave guys that stormed the racing beaches so to speak, never to be repeated or challenged.

Fantastic interview. Mario is one of a kind. The way he can relate to any racing Series is incredible. I knew Andrew would bring out stories we didn't get in "Drive Like Andretti". I love this. Can't wait for the next episode.

On the pole for his last F1 race as a favor to Mr Ferrari. Age 42. Problems with the turbo in the race but finished on the podium anyway🏁

That kid is way to young to be interviewing Mario! He can’t relate to anything he’s talking about.
