@@sparksdrinker5650Bicentennial Man is a completely forgotten movie! No one talks about that movie, it’s considered one of his “weaker movies” next to Toys, Father’s Day, Jack and Flubber
The thing that always gets to me is that throughout the movie, he calls him "sport" or "slick" or "champ", but then at the end, after he tells him it's not his fault, he starts calling him "son"
This film not only got Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Academy Awards for writing the film, but it really put them on the map and launched their careers as well.
Not really.... People seems to ignore the time before this film came out, like it all started with this one movie for them. They both were already rising stars in Hollywood and they both had top billing starring roles in critically acclaimed films prior to GWH. Affleck with Kevin Smith films and Damon with The Rainmaker. Yes, its considered their breakout roles but it didn't launch their careers. They both were already in the industry since the 80s, nearly a decade before this came out. They were on their way to the top, this film just gave them a speed boost. Also the original script THEY wrote was not this film. It was nearly 100% different. It was an international mystery spy thriller about a genius working for the government going on the run (aka literally Jason Bourne) getting helped by genius street kids. The script was shopped around and well known professional screenwriters hired to "give them tips" on changing the story. Those writers refused any credit
I really don't like when people watch this for the first time and say it's "formulaic". It may be now but it wasn't when it was made. This film is what the rest aspire to be. Whilst there are a lot before with similar themes, this is the one which stands out.
This was a master class of writing a script and improvising a script. The original script was written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, while the story about the wife and the last line "son of a b***h, he stole my line" were improvised by Robin Williams.
The original script by Affleck and Damon was a conventional thriller, where Will has to go on the run to escape 'dark forces' trying to track him down because he knows too much, or some such. A Hollywood executive had the good judgement to advise them to drop the whole 'thriller' angle and focus on the relationships, as here. The rest is Hollywood history.
Sean knocked him down off his pedestal, broke the mold and told him, flat out, I am here to help you if you want it. And in the end, they both became the one thing they were both missing. Father and son.
I can't help wondering how many lines/scenes were improvised, or added to the script, by Robbin Williams. Like the 'grab my ass' line. Or the whole 'Game 6 home run re-enactment'. 'enough cocaine to kill a small horse'. etc, etc. These all seem more like Robbin Williams than Affleck/Damon (the scriptwriters)
Everybody concentrates on Robins performance in this movie, and rightfully so, one of the best performances ever, but I think Minnie deserves some credit as well.
When you said at the end "He is finally taking risks", something clicked in my head. I've loved this movie since it first came out, and it always hit me so hard, now I understand why.

21:18 My favorite fun fact: the story of the farty wife was improvised by Robin; while he was telling it, he had the ENTIRE crew laughing along with us [we the audience are laughing too], you can tell because the edges of the screen jiggle when the camera is shook because the operator is laughing so hard.
7:34 "How do you like them apples?" - iconic line from this movie, never fails to put a satisfied smile on your face, especially after Will schooled that prick earlier. 10:26 it starts out very pure, lookin like they're having a lot of fun but as the movie progresses, you start noticing just how much Will eclipses his professor and what a toll it takes on the latter's mind. 15:38 such a cute scene and you can see just how well these two match. 17:42 Robin Williams' monologue is legendary but this particular part here is unbelievably powerful and it shows just how well his character understood Will - "You don't know about real loss, because it only occurs when you love someone more than you love yourself" 21:39 he gave Will the perfect question to think about - whether or not he and Skylar are perfect for each other, with all their imperfections. 25:10 Skylar fits right in with Will and the boys, that joke cracked them up good. 28:22 that was one way to scare the living lights out of Will. 31:00 now we're starting to see just how inferior the professor feels compared to Will. 32:58 this little insight into how Will's thinking, how crushed he feels by any possible outcomes/turns his life can take is terrifying. 36:05 Ben Affleck knocked it out of the park with this dialogue. 39:00 what an emotional scene, finally seeing Will break down, being vulnerable. 42:00 that smile on his face, realizing Will listened and just dissapeared, going to live his life to his potential - really warms your heart. 43:06 and he stole his line! Thank you for the beautiful commentary and this incredibly emotional reaction ❤
Exactly. If you look at the movie, it's really nothing more than a series of conversations. No big high-dollar scene or anything like that. Just beautiful, meaningful conversations.
Impressive how good Stellan Skarsgård is at playing arrogant and/or creepy characters. Matt and Ben were extremely fortunate to land he and Robin Williams for this film. They were just amazing.

He won an award for it. He killed himself a few years later by stabbing himself in the heart. 😔 The overall tones and themes of the story are of love, rage, regret, angst... so many others. The ones that you were yelling at him for.... they were meant to demonstrate the values embraced by the less "healthy" of us. Less healthy... but... just as valid, human, and necesary in the world.

I'm 57 now and I watched this movie w/ bells on when it first came out. I've seen it countless times, and it's still my favourite movie till this day. I still well up at all the parts, just like the girls did, seeing it new. One of the best scripts ever written, by a team of then total novices and nobodies on the movie scene. They managed to cobble together an all star supporting cast, who took pay cuts, because the script and the project was just that good. The rest is history. It's such a shame that they don't make movies like this anymore. So rarely, and if they do, the left wing press goes after them w/ both barrels for it. Thankfully, little back burner, low budget, sleeper movies still do slip through the cracks of the old stale machine. "Sound of Freedom" comes to mind. Not a top 5 great movie like this one, but definitely substantial and well done for the low budget it was made on.
29:58 "I want to hear because I want to help you!" The absolute worst thing Skylar could have said. Will is sick and tired of everyone trying to "help" him, like he's a charity case or a helpless child or a LOSER. He sees himself as a LOSER, which is why he thinks Skylar will dump him for a rich guy. Seeing the woman he loves pitying him (from his point of view) was simply unbearable.

Robin Williams was a pure genius in this movie and Matt Damon and his boys played a great part. Minnie was the right woman for the job. Hollywood couldn’t make a movie like this today to save their lives.
Glad you liked the movie. One of my favorites 😄. You are right, I discovered you need to take risks in life to really live and love. Life is for living not holding back.
The movie that gave my favorite actor of all time (Robin Williams) his first and sadly only Oscar Award. 20:43 The fart part was 100% improvised by Robin. Matt's reaction is realistic.
Iconic. I can't count how many times I've seen this, and it hits EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. This is a perfect movie, with a couple of the all time great performances. Robin Williams was a (inter)national treasure. I miss him beyond words. Maybe the best dramatic actor to come out of comedy. Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks may have something to say about that, but I'm sticking to my story. Dead Poets Society is a must-see. Other Robin Williams great performances: Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs Doubtfire, Awakenings, The Fisher King, The Birdcage, Jumanji, Bicentennial Man, Insomnia, and two movies that are under the radar that I think you personally would love; What Dreams May Come and August Rush.
Matt Damon has a speech where he explains that movies like this can't be made any more because of the economics of movie making these days. Just as sad as the movie itself!
the thing I really like about you two is that you both have hearts of gold and had great emotional reactions to this movie and its great scenes. it was a pleasure to watch you watch this great movie
I have been looking forward to the two of you reacting to this movie. Just humans, flawed, imperfect, and denying their own happiness because of fear or self-loathing. No magic. No superpowers. Just experiencing the human condition. I highly suggest another great and inspiring movie starring Robin Williams and a somewhat similar theme. Please react to The Dead Poets' Society.
Funfact: Lots of the stuff Williams did was improved..especially while talking about his wife. That was so hillarious at times that you can actually see Matt Damon laughing and the camera shaking a bit because the crew were laughing their asses off...only Williams was able to pull that stuff off..being totally sad emotional and near tears the one moment and the next moment pulling off a story that took that sadness and turned it into total laughter
47:50 "the whole movie is very different" Yes. The amount of talent on screen and off is rare as grizzly bear killings . Only 82 since 1784. NOW, watching those enfold? Pricless
If you two really want to see a film which will break your heart, you should watch "Ordinary People". That film makes me weep for sadness and for joy alike. One of the best films ever made about therapy, just like this one.
I love how the movie end with will in the car, and not with Will fiding the girl, cuz it shows that probably they didint live happy forever as a cliche, and he is going to find the girl and risk his future with or without her
One of the underrated aspects of this movie is the supporting cast. I don't know if you recognized Stellan Skarsgard, the MIT professor in this, but he was Dr. Selvig in the MCU from the Thor and Avengers movies. And you just saw him in the Dune movies as Baron Harkonnen. He's also in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series. Will's friends (you know Ben Affleck), but the skinny one is Ben's little brother Casey Affleck, who went on to become a pretty good actor in his own right. He had an amazing performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And the red curly haired guy is Cole Hauser, who had a number of really interesting roles in movies like Higher Learning, Pitch Black, Dazed and Confused (which also had Ben Affleck in it), and School Ties (which also had Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in it, it's where they al met).
I love your outlook, and perspective and outlook on this amazing movie. I loved how you both understood the emotions and Intelligence. I'm subed to you🙏
So I’m not sure if anybody reads these comments but you should know that it is relatable even if you’re not a genius like Will. To think you don’t deserve love and happiness because of things in your past. Because you were made to feel “ less than” and undeserving of those things. It takes some people a whole lifetime to figure out that it’s not your fault!
Thank you, ladies, for the best video I've seen today. What I find most special about this movie is that all the emotions are deep and authentic. Disclaimer: this movie did not use children and pets to make us cry 😁
If you want to see a great mini driver movie, I highly recommend return to me, it was directed by Bonnie Hunt, she is also in it. It also has David duchovny, James Belushi, Ray loja and Carroll O'Connor. It is a wonderful romantic comedy and I can't recommend it enough. Mini driver gives an extraordinary performance in that. By the way, mini driver is the ex-girlfriend of Matt Damon, he fought for her for this roll because he thought she could nail it.
I didn't even notice what Laura's tattoo says until halfway through the reaction. You should watch "Yentl." I think you'd like it... even if you don't react to it. That tattoo is quoted in the movie.
I cried along with you. Such an emotional journey. Interesting that you don't seem to know that that was Robin Williams. Such a household name and a huge star and an important dramatic movie in his career since he had been more known for comedy before this... but he was just before your time, so it's not really a surprise that you don't recognize him yet.
Wonderful reaction ladies. Very sincere. Sadly, some of Robin's mental anguish was reflected in his life. I hope you react to Dead Poets Society. It's my favorite Robin movie and has a special message. RIP Captain.
Great movie again :) . You should do Robin Willams Awakenings or The Dead Poet Society next . Also you can do Matt Damon The Rainmaker. You can also do some movies no reactor will ever do like Cadlic Man or The World According To Garp.
Here is another movie that is similar to Good Will Hunting. There was funny and serious scenes. There was a group therapy session at the end.of this movie I am about to mention to you as well. The next movie that I would suggest the both of you react to next is the Breakfast Club.
I’m always attacked to blondes but I so understand the feelings the brunette is sharing! Her insights to a woman’s heart ! I could have used her insight 40 years ago
13:54 I think you ladies missed the point where Will is not so smart as he thinks. He's just being insulting and he's completely wrong about what he's saying about the doc's wife. He's not a genius. Will is damaged and lashing out. Not a 'smart' reaction, only emotion. I'm sure you'll see as it goes to the end.
He's certainly a mathematical genius, but that doesn't necessarily transfer over to processing his feelings in the best way. There's intellectual intelligence and there's emotional intelligence - Will has plenty of one but is stunted in the other. And he's right about Sean's wife being an emotional pressure point (which is why it riles him so much), but isn't so clever as to empathise and understand why he's better off not pressing on that point.
This was Robin William’s very best performance of his career. A well deserved Oscar. RIP Robin
Agreed, never did I think he was an actor acting, he was Sean the therapist from Southie. Incredible performance and an almost perfect movie.

Yes, him and Jim Carrey are the best comedians of all time.
I love this movie, it always makes me cry. Good Will Hunting, Ford Vs. Ferrari & The Martian are all on my constant rewatch.
That's a life changing movie.
47:50 "the whole movie is very different"
Yes.
I love how the movie end with will in the car, and not with Will fiding the girl, cuz it shows that probably they didint live happy forever as a cliche, and he is going to find the girl and risk his future with or without her
Love the almost synchronized swooning over Robin
You can see back stage footage of the shooting for the unreleased Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season; in the movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
I am writing this to help out Laura and magy and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥰
Beautiful film, beautiful ladies and beautiful reaction. This made my whole week, I smiled and I cried and I smiled. I fuckin love UA-cam sometimes
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Very heartwarming and sad at the same time.
One of my favorite movies of all time. I Lived in Boston for many years. It’s very realistic.
Everytime I watch this makes me a little sad thinking...Robin isn't here with us anymore...
I think you need to start a cult where you can worship the word “underrated.” Since you and so many other people love it so much
@@nsasupporter7557 Nobody cares.
The park bench scene is my favourite movie moment ever.
RIP Robin ❤
The city made that bench a tourist attraction
I love your outlook, and perspective and outlook on this amazing movie.
I loved how you both understood the emotions and Intelligence.
I'm subed to you🙏
great movie and review! You two are special :)
Note to the one on the right of our monitors- be careful not to run over your buddy when she speaks ;)

Disclaimer: this movie did not use children and pets to make us cry 😁
i lovedd this reaction. and ugh i love the elliott smith throughout this movie sm
I love how he mentioned Nietzsche 33:58
If you want to see a great mini driver movie, I highly recommend return to me, it was directed by Bonnie Hunt, she is also in it. It also has David duchovny, James Belushi, Ray loja and Carroll O'Connor. It is a wonderful romantic comedy and I can't recommend it enough.
Mini driver gives an extraordinary performance in that.
By the way, mini driver is the ex-girlfriend of Matt Damon, he fought for her for this roll because he thought she could nail it.
If you enjoyed this, you should definitely react to Patch Adams if you haven’t already. One of Robin Williams’ best performances!
One of my top 5 movies of all time. And btw what a soundtrack by the late great Elliott Smith. ❤
36:27: Actually, he would be *Batman* 🦇
Great reaction by both of you. Keep being down to earth. Always be yourself.
Your reaction to this movie was priceless. Thank you.
Good reaction, i love it when you show emotion. very special. never change.
You understood - and felt (everything). Great reaction, girls!
It is a must watch. It challenges how people perceive life as a whole and what's valuable in it.
If you like Robin Williams, the doctor, here's two good movies of his - 'Dead Poets Society' and 'Bicentennial Man'.
I’m always attacked to blondes but I so understand the feelings the brunette is sharing! Her insights to a woman’s heart ! I could have used her insight 40 years ago
You two are awesome!!
soundtrack to this movie was equally great. RIP Elliot Smith
We lost a great one when Robin Williams passed. He gave one of the best performances ever in this movie.
Now you need to watch some films with Robin Williams like Aladdin which is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time and others.
One of the great tragedies of the human experience is that our true passions rarely align with our talents.
You guys are the best reactors, you feel it .
RIP Robin Williams. It's unconceivable to me that Robin's face is not recognized by everyone.
If you carefully rewatch the ending, Matt Damon didn’t really know how to drive.
One of my favorite movies. Thx for reacting to it. :)
Before he ruled Arrakis... He helped Will Hunting.
