    Reveni Labs in Canada makes spotmeters, costing CA$ 250 or so, small but effective, they claim and LF photographers seem to agree. Matt Bachberger (owner) makes other interesting photo stuff, too.

    Thank you Jules. It makes a lot of sense. I have two meters and will be looking to use them with some of my older film cameras

    Hi Jules! Great video! Here's a question for you. What do you yourself use or do to set exposure when photographing people outdoors using natural light? Presumably you are mostly using your mirrorless Nikons nowadays. Do you find that the new mirrorless Nikons are so good that it gets people's faces exposed correctly all the time? Or do you switch to spot, take a reading and then dial in some compensation? Maybe this would make for a great future video... i.e what is your "in camera exposure workflow" to ensure your subject be it a person or a flower or a car is properly exposed (whilst shooting outdoors and not in a studio). Thanks for another great video!!! 🥰👍🏻🙏🏼

      It really depends on the lighting conditions when photographing people. I prefer an overcast day or on a sunny day shootIng in the shade. If that’s the case I’ll shoot in aperture priority and use matrix metering and maybe a little fill flash. Take a shot and then I may use. Some exposure comp. The Nikon matrix metering works very well, but it’s not perfect. If I’m forced to shoot with the subject in the sun I will always use fill flash. The beauty of digital is you can see the effects of your settings right away and make any changes to get it right in camera. Of course, I’ll always shoot raw which enables me to make corrections after the shoot as well.

    For View Cameras there are ones with a sensor to hold to the ground glass. I had a 35mm camera with a regular or spot meter switch next to the lens release, would unknowingly move it and had bad slide film photos. Ooops!

      @@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 Mamiya Sekor with the screw mount lens. I still have my RB67 medium format. Several selenium cell hand held meters.

      my mistake as the screw mount lens didn't need a release button.

    Very clear and concise as usual, thanks for posting. I wonder, do you ever use the old purely analogue light meters? I ask because somewhere in my house I've got a very old Weston2 light meter which use selenium cells. I've had it years and have no clue how it works!

      @julesvuottosphotofocus4696  5 місяців тому +2

      Never used a Weston. Ansel Adams liked them. I don’t believe a selenium meter needed a battery. You should dig it out and see if it reacts to light. I know they were not as sensitive as CDS cell meters.
