iPhone 13 Pro review: attention to detail

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- The Apple iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are here with 120Hz high refresh rate displays, A15 Bionic processors, and all-new cameras. At a glance, the iPhone 13 Pro shares the bulk of its design with its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Pro. When you look closer, it’s the details that start to show the full story with this year's Apple flagship. Starting at $999 and $1,099, respectively, are the details enough to warrant an upgrade?

Shout out to the film crew who went fricken baller with the video quality
@@ReluctantSpirit because they're not transparent and critical as the top tech channels.
Isn't that obvious?
@@ReluctantSpirit what are you saying? MKBHD not only has better personality, his channel also has better content, quality and credibility
That’s how it should be. We need to evolve as a species through consistently pushing higher means of expression. 2 years from now this should be the baseline.
@@ReluctantSpirit What are you even tryna' say?
@@ReluctantSpirit Not sure why you singled out MKBHD. His channel is on par with this one. If you said iJustine, I'd get it.
That transition on the phone drop was way too good. Kudos to the crew.
The low-light video at 9:40 is absolutely insane. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any smartphone produce video that crisp in that lighting 😳
Yeah goddamn
yea that was good but then 10:41 it is not :(
@@isoplayers how is it not good then?
@Purple Dragon at this moment the 13 pro In camera is the best… have to wait for the pixel 6 to se something better (maybe)
@Purple Dragon your opinion, not mine
The night time neon video is absolutely incredible, can’t believe that comes from a phone.
100%
Agreed !!
Really? I though it was grainy and had tons of artifacts

The camera review by verge in this video is THE BEST I've seen in a long time. Great job, team.
What a great review. I like how honest he was about the display and his perspective on the 120Hz idea. He is right about Apple adapting to it later than Android. Apples software isn't slow or choppy so the animations were always great but high refresh rate obviously does help and it looks fantastic.
Can we all appreciate how good the video looked at 9:38 it blew my mind
That is absolutely jaw-dropping that a phone can do that well in an extremely difficult lighting condition like that. Unbelievable
Since smart hdr came out, iPhones can do that easily under the right lighting conditions, it’s really good
Exactly my thought. I was wondering if that was colour graded .
Would be great to see that video shot with Dolby Vision. With all those neon colours... Amazing.
The production of “The Verge” is just top of the line.Keep it up guys🔥

120hz was the feature I was waiting for. It’s the reason I didn’t upgrade last year even though I liked the phones otherwise, but I expected the only thing they’d do this year that I cared about was 120 variable refresh, which ended up being mostly correct.
Yeah, easily my favorite feature this year. I still will rock my 11 Pro but will check out for next years successor.
@@anthonyt425 I’m upgrading from a X, so it’s getting about time for me anyway if I want to be able to sell/give away this phone while it’s worth anything. I’m sure the 13 will feel like a huge jump for me.
Upgrading from a base 11 just for the 120hz
9:39 - wtf, this looks incredible. No one comes close in terms of video right now., sheeeeesh
Yeah ongggg
The audio isn’t actually from the phone

I was actually shocked to see the "iphone 13 pro" badge on the video
@@allenmobley8444 Audio is the biggest gap now for casual filming on a smart phone. There must be some USB microphone you can plug in
If the video from 9:29 was really shot on the iPhone, I'm really impressed. The bokeh was really realistic like an f2.8/3.5
It’s probably cause the black screen in the back is actually a green screen you can see it cut off in the bottom edge
Upgraded from an iPhone 8 to the 13 Pro and what a difference. Loving the battery life and especially love ProMotion
It looks amazing!
It Look the same 😂😂😂😂😂

It is the same as the past 3 phones you won’t notice a difference once have it!
I agree
@@king_davion505 I was about to say that foreal 🤣 😂 😭
I upgraded to the 13 pro from a 12 pro max ( I thought I would like the larger size, but prefer the smaller one) and the improvements are VERY noticeable. Battery, screen refresh and cameras are all noticeably better.
Thinking about doing the same. The 12PM can get quite uncomfortable to carry.
i have the 12 pro max i couldn't see any difference between my phone and the 13 pro maxx
@@Cjmboo Well, the extra zoom, higher refresh rate (120Hz is much smoother vs 60Hz), and macro lenses are big improvements. On my old 12 pro max, I couldn’t get any decent macro shots - on the 13 pro it’s awesome. Also, the cinematic focus (I forget the official name) is a nice new feature. I can also go all day even with heavy use with the new phone (not sure if it’s an improved battery or a processor using less wattage, but the end result is my phone lasts longer on a per charge basis). Both are great devices, but the 13 Pro and Pro Max are much improved over the previous model.
@@yemanator that's still no reason for me to upgrade i didn't see a difference for me
@@Cjmboo Oh yeah no problem. Not every improvement is something that a user needs - but, the way I figured it, there are a number of significant improvements and the trade in values for my iPhone 12 Pro Max were very high (over $580 at the time). By waiting to trade in until the iPhone 14 or 15, the value of the phone I owned would drop over time, so I felt as though it was justified (especially since I preferred the smaller Pro, which is also $100 cheaper)
That crop in right before the cut was so creative.

Watching this on my 13 pro and loving every second of it! This year it’s not worth buying the regular 13, the differences are bigger than last year.
I would like to see these extensive camera reviews done with more people of darker skin tones. Especially in bright and low light. My experience with the iPhone and Samsung cameras are never the same as some reviewers, when it comes to taking pictures of myself and friends.
Facts!!
Other reviewers have images and video with people of darker skin tones, such as Marques. Apples website is also really diverse with images
@@mathsensei9801 I know, that's why I said some reviewers. I was specifically asking The Verge tbh. I don't think that you can label it the best overall camera, if you haven't tested it in all conditions.
That's all.
Very true
Literally the biggest tech reviewer is black. Just go watch his videos...
9:30 here’s a tip for the iPhone users with that arrow, instead of going all the way up to press that button you can swipe up, not from the directly bottom but in the photo frame, better for one handed use.

That Dieter Neon Selfie at 10:01 is just mind blowing. Phone cameras have come a long way.
The transitions & videography at 0:25 are crazy!! Most underrated tech channel on UA-cam, this channel totally deserves more subs than many other UA-cam channels...
The battery life improvement on the 13 Pro Max is the biggest underrated feature. I've had it for two days and I can already tell how much longer the battery lasts.
intro (0:24) legit gave me goosebumps big props to the video team
The production quality of these videos is insane.
What the heck, this video's quality is an absolute 11/10 and I'm all here for it. WELL DONE!
I usually watch other reviewers because I feel like these staff reviewers in big companies tend to not talk in detail about specs and impressions when discussing gadgets - but this particular review is one of the best I've seen so far - explanations are rather well framed and the experience with the phone is described in a way that makes you want to watch the video to the end. I loved it thank you! As the title suggests I'd say this review was made with much attention to detail :)
the video recorded on the iPhone in the middle of the video was literally better than the video in the studio!
As an Android user, I've always respected the recent iPhones because the boxy design reminds me of the iPhone 4
Been rocking with my 7plus but i think it’s time to upgrade
That drop was smooth!
Had to stop the video… i was blown away by the dropping iphone shot at the beginning… i follow this channel for a long time now and im always amazed by the quality of the videos… for a tech enthusiast the right place to get all information on new stuff its a must!!! 🔥🔥🔥💪🏻
Verge iPhone reviews look like extended keynote presentation on behalf of Apple.
That 3X zoom is the perfect zoom for a phone IMO. When I had my P20 Pro with 3X zoom it was enough for almost anything that I wanted to zoom and fantastic for portraits. I'm happy that Apple is finally giving some love to the zoom camera this year.
@Tweed Penguin If you can't say why, then just don't bother.
I came from iphone 8 plus to 13 pro max and im so loving all the new features! The camera and the battery life are the best!
9:39 Damn! Getting this kind of video quality out of a phone is crazy.
A little change could make the apple fans so excited and happy!!!!
The editing on this video is chef's kiss, AMAZING.

Team “The Verge” you guys are super creative and different from others. It’s fun watching reviews and other tech content by you guys.
Just got mine and the improvements ARE AMAZING
(I’m coming from the iPhone X)
Would you upgrade from an iPhone 12 Pro? How about an earlier model?
Never. Too expensive (but quality not comprimised). Even though there is quality, the software cannot be custom made and is not as friendly as android, even though I think now all phonemakers have roughly similar features.
Yes, would like the increased battery and better display as well as the LiDAR which seems to make more sense on a smaller device than the ipad pros
Apple discontinued the 12 pro because they knew the 13 was not enough of an upgrade and people would buy the cheaper 12 pro. So they got rid of it to force people to buy the 13 pro
Nope but my wife will have the 13 coming from the 11 so ill be close enough to see it in action. I myself upgraded to the Z fold 3 and downgraded my 12 pro to a 12 mini and I use both however I'm not feeling like the 12 mini is a downgrade. Either way everyone will be happy regardless of what device they choose. Salute!
Upgrading from my X, finally!
Seeing Dieter with the neon lights around him is what made me buy the damn 13 Pro immediately! I'm always impressed by the camera.
The 1TB storage combined with the Files app has made thumb drives obsolete for me and that is a great improvement.
I'm still on the 8. Works good enough for me. Won't be changing any time soon.

At 9:40 goddamn
0:25 that phone drop transition SHEEEEESH 🤮
Verge how the hell did you crank this out so quick?? Wizardry.
Cinematic mode is totally a gimmick and yet to see a demo of it where it actually works well. When it blurs the background, half the time it doesn't fully crop out the subject properly. It looks so jarring and bad. It needs like a couple of generations pass before it becomes something interesting tbh.
In love with that intro graphics

The quality of the videos shot on the iPhone at 9:29 are insane.

Currently using an iPhone X, and I’m getting the Pro in January, I’m expecting a quite massive jump in everything.
How’s the use?
Battery life due to improved (cpu and auto low refresh rate) and display are the big hitters. Display isn’t that big of a deal. Hardware aesthetics look similar but slightly better. Great review
Those low light images are INSANE!!!! WOW!
So much better review than Mkbhd. So much detail and fun. Great work Verge! ❤️
mkbhd video was an impression video not detailed review like this one
The Verge has come a long way! This vid is way better than MKBHD's
MHBHD has some of the worst content on this platform
“I have hard time believing that real movies are gonna be made with this”
Unsane (2018): Hold my iPhone 7
The iPhone 7 could record at 2160p (presumably what the movie was filmed in). Filming in 1080p with cinematic mode means there are *many* less options in post, even when the final export is 1080p. I can see cinematic mode being used for some very stylized shots, but for most shots in a hypothetical movie, settling for that resolution isn't' ideal.
how do you all manage to have that pitch black background every year for the iPhone videos , i watched it on my oled tv and i’m always left speechless. Beautiful.
Gotta say, Verge has slowly overtaken MKBHD in tech product reviews for me. Amazing team, Aesthetic Shots and Attention to Details. Love it!
“You shouldn’t get distracted by cinematic mode…”

This just happened
Every single person wants the battery percentage with the smaller notch. lol Maybe listening Apple?
I don’t need it. Would like it if they had it as an option but it doesn’t really bother me either way
Paradoxically, having the battery percentage visible increases battery anxiety since you’re always looking to see if you have enough juice
There's a widget for it in Cydia, just saying :)
@@sleywil3694 no one cares about cydia or jailbreak in 2021 mate
You know what else has attention to detail? Well your videos!!
I’m deep into photography. Upgraded the second I saw the macro. The low light sounds great too since Ive done some 10s exposures camping in pitch black. I mean I have real cameras but the one on hand is always the best.
Also very glad I could get the normal pro instead of the Max. I have a Fold for a big phone, didn’t need two lol.
Another great and useful review. A couple of points: 1. Many folks (me included) think of the phone as more of a "rental" rather than a "purchase". Like any renter, I'm looking for the nice experience without the hassle. By getting the new phone, I'm never, ever in a situation where my phone isn't working like it should. 2. I wish reviewers would get away from the idea of whether and upgrade is "worth it." The cost of moving from a 12 to a 13 will be small to minimal. Owners of newer phone will get less (net) benefit but will pay (net) much less. The real question is whether any of the changes will be worth the actual net cost to the individual user. "Worth" is meaningless without also considering use case and cost.
So true! I just bought a 13 Pro a month before the 14’s launch and 100% plan to upgrade to the 14 something in January once I can pick any color of any model. The only reason I upgraded from my 12 mini was to maximize my trade in value when I do upgrade.
Night mode looks great.
As an Android user I must say this is an absolutely incredible phone line, defo the higher ones. Damn. So far it's the best phone to get, and I'm curious and excited what Samsung will bring beginning next year. I love competition, it's a win-win for everyone. Soon the iPhones will be similar to Androids and Androids like iPhones (similar price ofc). I'm so excited for the future of smartphones, always makes me happy to see video's like this. The price hurts though
I ordered one for the ball n chain I'll be comparing it to my Note 20 Ultra. She always prefers my pics vs her older iphone pics so it'll be interesting to see how the new one compares. I'm a power user and use my Note 20 Ultra a lot as I'm a nursing student so I just couldn't see the draw on iphones. Looking forward to the Note 22.

The photo quality convinced me, just ordered tonight the 13 Pro in Sierra Blue, coming from a XS so I’m excited to try out all the cameras.
I really wished Apple had addressed the issue with internal reflections (ie. light orbs) when filming at night around lights.
I thought they fixed it with an iOS 14 update. I think those lens flares were only removed in Photos and not videos
That seems to happen if the lease is smudged. Clean it with a proper cloth or perhaps a case will prevent it happening too much
@@MrBlackout97 you can actually see the light orbs/dots in both of TheVerge’s iPhone 13 reviews with the night footage. Not as glaring (no pun intended) as in their iPhone 12 review when I think they went out of their way to point it out, but they’re there.
