Farewell to a KING: A Tribute to NEIL PEART

- We are trying to grasp the reality of the news that “The Professor” Neil Peart has left us.
Considered by many to be one of the best rock drummers of all time, along with penning impressive lyrics, Peart was renowned for his proficiency, his technical expertise and unique performance style, expertly weaving together techniques from different musical genres, blending jazz and big band with hard rock. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1983. Peart‘s writing also extended beyond music: He penned a number of memoirs exploring his life and travels.
RUSH finished their final tour in 2015; Peart was done with the road and eager to spend more time with his wife, Carrie Nuttal, and daughter Olivia. He would never be seen on stage again.
We feel numb and in disbelief. But there’s no denying that the cause of our grief is gratitude - that such a genius raised the bar so high and delighted us in so many ways. We are all so much richer for his life, for what he shared with all of us. Go listen to a RUSH album, or three or four.
We say Farewell to a King today… but his beat will not be stilled. #NeilPeart #TheProfessor #Rush #Legend #RIP
I have never in my life ever met Neil Peart in person. But I feel that I just lost my best friend. The impact that this man put onto people all over the world was MASSIVE.
Yes..... I cried as if I lost a friend.....
Friend just heard last night (almost a week after all of us knew). Was texting me. I knew how I felt after I heard. I called him & he was near inconsolable. I'm glad I called...he was ok by the end of the conversation but it was pretty bad at first.
WADE - My feelings exactly. I never met him, either. I don't say this about many artists, but Neil Peart shaped the way I think and who I am. I'll miss him almost as if I knew him.
Vasudevananda, your words are solid and true, and you speak for many. We mourn together as one large family understanding the goodness and truth that this group has brought to us year after year. I will not try to write my own passage, as your words beautifully encompassed the sentiments that RUSH nation is feeling at this time. Thank you for taking the time.
I agree, I can’t believe how upset I still am months later. I’m 54 and no death has ever affected me like this, including family.. Damn I’m sad
I’m currently 32, I started playing drums when I was 11. I had been playing for a few months and I heard Tom Sawyer on the classic rock station and I asked my dad who was that the drums were so awesome to me. He said that’s rush. So I bought all the cds at Walmart that week and got dvds I could and I would try to imitate him because I was infatuated with his drumming. Then 2 years later they came to my home town to play and my dad got me tickets for my bday. I remember seeing Neil run out when they opened and saying there he is that’s Neil Peart. I still play drums w many different bands and genres of music but he was truly a role model and influence to me as a child. We are so lucky to have had him. Rest In Peace Mr Peart. There will never ever be another.
That’s father’s love
For those that put thumbs down, are not Rush fans or fans of Neil. You all just need to go away. He is the greatest drummer of all time.
To the best friend I've ever had, but never met. RIP Neil.
Peart was referring to the garden of memories within our minds. Tend to your garden, feed your cherished memories with the water of your tears. Take time to keep the memory of those who have passed before you alive, vibrant, in love. Keep the memory alive. Just as you are doing here, listening to this music, to these words. A great mind, a great spirit, a great heart whom we have all come to love and adore has passed before us, and he has taken his garden with him, and told us of ours, to take with us~ Neil, you will never know the treasure you have provided to so, so many of us, but it is real. Thank you Mr Peart.
Very well said thank you for that it is greatly appreciated
I WAS GOING TO POST A COMMENT , BUT YOU SAID WHAT WE ALL FEEL IN YOURS.
ricky4001cs well stated. I also think he was telling us to tend to our family
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Such a beautiful sentiment, Ricky. He will always be missed.
As heartbroken as many of us feel at this time, we can't imagine how Rush's inner circle are feeling over Neil's passing.
My condolences to Neil's family, Alex and Geddy, and one of the best road crews ever assembled!
One helluva drummer!
The Garden is such a fitting sendoff to one of the greatest drummers of all time. Rush has influenced me as a musician since my mid teens. Through Neil's lyricism and powerful, creative drumming, he has influenced generations of not only drummers, but musicians in general. The slide show of Neil through the decades made me realize the true dedication and commitment the three of them had - not being drawn to the "glittering prizes and endless compromises" of the music industry - just believing in themselves and their music. This is why they were able to make incredible and timeless music for more than forty years. I was able to see them on many tours, and each show was mind-blowing. I never met Neil, but I felt like I lost a friend when he passed away. This one was tough to digest. His drumming will continue to influence countless generations to come. His beat will carry on. RIP Professor, you are greatly missed.
Beautifully done. I’ve never been moved to such sadness by the death of someone I’ve never met.
Thank you for everything, Neil
Well said, Kevin, well said... thank you....
Same here
I feel exactly the same Kevin. I’m still having intermittent tears when I think about him.
I feel the same man. Rush was the soundtrack of my life when I was growing up. Seems they had a song for any occasion/mode and their music got me through a lot
I also, never been this upset over the passing of someone I never met.
Neil Peart saved my life 35 years ago and never even knew it. His music is more important than even he knew..
The world just lost a big chunk of integrity and goodnes. I just can't get over this...
Hi, my name is Jeff Cote and I am from Canada. I'm a big fan of all 3 of these guys. Been playing Rush all weekend after hearing the shocking news of Neil Peart's death. It's amazing to me how many people are posting tributes and all the people from all over the world commenting on all types of social media. It was a very sad day and so many people touched. During the NFL playoffs before cutting to commerical, they played some Rush music 😊 he was respected by many. R.I.P. Neil your music will live on forever!
Yes. The NFL thing came as a big surprise to me...but I felt very gratified. For Neil's sake. So many tributes since his passing. Grown men like me crying. What a drummer. What a dude.
Neil will always be remembered as “The Professor” for a reason. It was the mere mention of his name that helped my son and I to become father and son again after 20yrs. I remember seeing RUSH in 1976 when they opened up for KISS. I was fortunate enough to see them several times after that. Always a great show. Neil thank you for allowing my son and I to reunite and become a family again. I will always miss you
The first of ten times that I saw RUSH was the same tour. Pittsburgh, Dec. 20, 1975. They opened for Kiss and Mott was there as well. I can't hear the song Fly By Night without thinking of that night, they blew me away and the next day I ran to National Record Mart and bought Fly By Night, I've loved RUSH ever since.
Ron H. My memories will always be with me when I saw RUSH as an opener. Now they sit on top as gods!! All three of them are and always be masters at the music
Saw them 3 times in Hollywood Fla. 1976/77...for like $6 buck a ticket, Rush opened for Bad Company....How LUCKY we were/are to live in an era to see this band become a Legend, where their music is alive and well 44 yrs later!!!!!!!
Sally Ann they always put their heart and soul into every show the put on. It’s most definitely hard to find a band nowadays that puts fourth that much effort to make sure us fans got what we paid for. Again ALWAYS A CLASSY BAND AND SHOW
He’s cruising on his motorcycle through Xanadu right now....ride on Neil!
He rode a bmw1150
I bumped into him at thr gas station. By luck..whike riding.my bmw1100cc.
He has his helmet .on ..the gas station. Attendant is thr one who told me..he was the Rush.drumner
KLR Ron either that, or he's sailing along in the Rocinante. . . headlong into mystery.
Guillermo Oh brother..........smh
@@guillermo3564 Yes. I see him at the controls of the Rocinante. I betcha' he can navigate just as good as he could lay down sixteenth-note triplets!
That's exactly how I see it.
I was in tears when I got a text telling me that Mr Neil Peart had died
I played this album on that sad night and this song reduced me to tears again
Music has been the best thing in my life (outside of my family)
Rush have been the best part of that for me ... best band, best songs, best lyrics, best drums/bass/guitar
Truly awful news to hear that the mighty Professor was gone
RIP the legend that was Neil
This was a wonderful tribute and that quote you use well chosen
Respect and love to all the Rush fans who are feeling saddened
A part of my childhood passed away with the passing of this great musician. He's the reason I make my living as a drummer today. May he rest in peace, and may his family and friends find peace and strength during this difficult time..
once again..."there are billions of stars in the sky. But Neil was like the sun. And when the sun comes out the stars disappear "
RIP my hero. You stand alone!!!
The GOAT of drummers. A true poet and expert at his craft. He set the bar for all others. My heart is broken as a piece of my life has left me. Gone but never forgotten. See you on the other side.
very nice touch, i cannot believe it. I just found out.
Well said, brother. I feel the same way.
That bar is in a different dimension.
All I can say... is Yes I agree with you friend!
"Grief changes shape. But it never ends." Keanu Reeves. So true. Even over two months later. We miss you, Neil!
“We are only immortal for a limited time” -“The Professor”, Neil Peart
He contributed largely to pulling me out of a near-suicidal depressive state and encouraged me to continue drumming, which has led me to success I could’ve never foreseen a year ago. From the bottom of this young heart, I love you Neil. Thank you for everything. You are and always will be my Number 1 inspiration in this and all future lives. ❤️
Unired whenever I am down , I listen to Rush and life is instantly better !
The “ pass” from presto. Helped me in the 80’s when I was a teenager.
i was not a fan of rush, but it is touching about the tributes and saw more interviews about this very special drummer, he is not just the drummer but he is the heart of this very special trio this is the new theme song as you are entering heaven tom sayer Mr Neil Peart i am sorry to hear about your wife and child passing I really hope you find peace and to also see them again
Saved my life too
Unired. Music has the ability to stimulate both sides of the brain at the same. Neils gift of music has helped many people come out of the dark. I’m happy that he helped you come back to the light. He gave me my life back. I lived in darkness suffering from PTSD. Celebrate his gift to all of us.
(MORE TEARS) Thanks for the tribute. being a Zep fan it was a real shock when John passed on, I was a lot younger and many more gone away. Now that I'm older & we now have instant comunication this loss seems to be hitting us very hard. I'm now 64 Niel Peart almost feels like a family member. I don't want to preach but to you young people, LIFE IS SHORT DON'T WASTE IT. Neil didn't
Just a bit younger than you John. Losing Moon and Bonzo was tough...but WE were young at the time. That cushioned the blow. Losing Neil just reminds us of our own fleeting mortality. And how fortunate we were to witness such a special musician.
@@usmcfutball OOORRAA
well said sir
I remember the 1st time I heard 2112 back in 76'....I was hooked as a goofy teenage hippy wanna be. I was blessed to see them no fewer than 25 times over the years, brought my younger brother, my children, his children into the mix. Nothing cooler than seeing RUSH fans bringing their children to shows for them to experience what we had for many decades. Neils passing was like losing a close friend, he touched all of us with his passion, heart, and determination to live life to its FULLEST. We are all better people for experiencing RUSH and the one and only, "Professor!" RIP my friend...
Went to my first Rush show in 1977 and have been in awe ever since...Rest in peace Neil, our brother..
Anyone else on here have a huge lump in their throat and tears in their eyes? RIP Neil.
What a lot of people fail to realize. This band and Neil in particular made most of their albums on TAPE, certainly all the originals, no click tracks, there was no way to digitally fix mistakes. As a drummer I have listened for miscues, a little slip, an unintentional accent. All hoping to prove he was human, lol . Any musician that has spent time in a studio can attest to the stress and absolute dedication this takes . He certainly among the greatest drummers and has inspired millions to pick up the sticks and give it a go. Myself included. I will never reach his level and I'm ok with that, A special human being that found 2 other special human beings and they created something over 40 years that will indeed reach into the next millennium. To his band mates, I'm so sorry for the loss of a great friend, To Mr Peart, your work is done here sir, Thank you
Lisa! Shame on you! You used 'Neil' and 'miscue' in the same sentence. Grrrrr! To your point, those three dudes put together the epic 'Xanadu' while on tour; fleshing it out...working out the kinks. Then - because all three were superhuman - they recorded it (all 8 to 9 minutes of it) in a single take. Flawlessly. I'm always humbled by that whenever my paradiddles lack the sufficient diddle. R.I.P. Professor.
The Lord appeared by Neil's side and said "I have to take you home now my son"...
"Will I be remembered as a good drummer in this world" Neil asked with his last breath...
"No" said the Lord with a tear in his eye..."In this world you will be remembered as the greatest drummer of all time"... RIP
neil followed ayn rand and was a staunch believer in objectivism not Jesus. peart believed he would either "rot or burn".
I lost my Dad almost a year ago to the day and 5 or 6 months before, one of my best friends. I was stunned with the news of Neil's passing. I've been learning to cope with grief for a bit and am still learning. If I hadn't known Jesus... He changed my life. There's so many storms in this life but so much more Hope given to us through Him. Come to the water and drink. God really does love you.
“and though it’s just a memory, some memories last forever “
Thank you Neil, Geddy, and Alex, for the memories that you gave me.
Never met the man although I was in the same building with him several times! I feel like I've lost a lifelong friend.
Neil, you taught me my first roll across the toms. You are why I am a drummer today. So sad to hear you have left. I will always love you and cherish the inspiration you left me and countless others. RIP.....
Man, there's tears on my keyboard.....he will live in my heart forever....since 1974......💔💔❣
Bless all Rush fans and inspired musicians....we are all family!!!!!
I'm am still shocked and heartbroken over the loss of Neil. My hero, Thank you for posting this beautiful song man. tears could fill a pool at this point. We must remember the integrity and musical muscle Neil had. Love to all the fans hurting at this time. It will get better!
You are right, and we will always remember how all of them conducted themselves on and off the stage. Each individual true fans knows without a doubt that we mattered to them. Right now we can't smoke but one day we will watch and smile and maybe something new we didn't see before. My sympathy to all his family, Alex and Geddy, and all true Rush fans.. We know what we lost. Thank you Neil....😭🙏💖
hurting so much.
In death brings the trolls from what ever maggot invested rock they came under! Someone didn’t get hugged enough?
Mr. Peart, a musical and lyricist maestro and virtuoso who was and never will be, equaled. His legend is immortalized for the rest of the ages. All other drummers past, present, and future have no choice but to kneel in homage and respect. A musician that not only set the gold standard but, exceeded it. To me, his most admirable quality, despite knowing full well he was the best that ever was and ever will be, was his humility and sincere from-the-heart gratitude for his skills, his friends, and his family. 2112 hooked me on RUSH and I'm as rabid now as I was 40 years ago. His passing is a dagger in the heart. Besides losing a once-in-a-lifetime world treasure, mankind has lost a truly decent human being .
The last song on their last album. The Garden, great choice for a send off. Good bye Neil, but for a limited time.
We didn't know until now that "The Garden" was Neil's way of saying good-bye to us.
@@melwilson9531 I have to admit that when I first listened to The Garden, I did get some sort of an impression of finality.
Mel Wilson, I had no idea that Neil really was saying Goodbye to all of us... I just thought he was saying goodbye because of the nonstop touring he had done in the 1970's. I was a Senior in H.S. in 1983, and I finally saw Rush in Minneapolis, MN. I'm sure now that he was suffering from Brain Cancer in 2012, but he was going to let us know of it. I can now see how it was HIS Swan Song, and it was such a moving tribute! Semper Fidelis
John Roos Neil was diagnosed midway through 2016. Life expectancy with glioblastoma is 1 to 2 years, which he exceeded by a year and a half. Had he known in 2012, we would have lost him several years ago.
With respect, I don’t think that’s exactly correct. Neil didn’t have glioblastoma in 2012. Maybe he knew the day would come, sooner rather than later, that he would walk away from the music. He just lost the fire and wanted to spend time with his relatively new family. He was tired after 40 plus years. There was nothing else to prove. He and the other 2 members of RUSH finally got the respect they deserved. The sad part is, if the story is true and he suffered with his illness for 3 and a half years, that means he was only retired from RUSH for only a few months when he was given his deadly diagnosis. I’m sure in the end the only thing he cared about was not being able to see his young daughter grow up. His legacy isn’t the music. His legacy is his daughter because a large part of Neil’s humanity is alive and well in her.
🥺😢 percussions are sick, Geddy’s bass is sick, Lifeson’s guitar is sick. Professor, you will be missed not only for your drumming, but also for your greatness as a person, your grace, your dignity and your inner strength to rise above tragedy. All the love from me and the rest of mexican fans of Rush. 🇨🇦 🇲🇽❤️
And thank you to the person who uploaded this video. ❤️
my life's soundtrack, eternally grateful.
Rush. My high school heroes. Life will be seen a little differently now.
He was the master of his craft. No one else comes close.
Well , John Henry Bonham came close. (Meant respectfully to them both. Rest in peace masters)
I first got to see them when I was in high school 12 11 1987 they were the best and most of all he will always be my favorite drummer of all time may God rest your soul my hero
Awesome band fantastic drummer my band all thru high school 2112
RIP...
Rush - and Neil - help get me through the bullshit that was high school. Bad day? No problem. Just pop on the headphones and take a trip to Xanadu...
This is a real hard one.Goodbye Neil. Rest in peace. You're done with cancer, and you're done with arthritis. No more.
I was 13 years old when I heard Tom Sawyer in the spring of 1981. It changed my life. I was no longer tone deaf. Very true story. Thank you Neil, and god bless your soul!
Nice! Me? I was 16. And the song was Temples of Syrinx from '2112'. Changed everything. Neil just "had" it.
@@usmcfutball As long as we're sharing, here's my story:
As a 15 year old I was laying on a couch in the basement of somebody's house I didn't know after a party the previous night. I was woken up when somebody put on the stereo and played "Broones Banes/The Trees." The beautiful opening guitar and then the intensity of the rest of the song really grabbed my attention. I asked somebody "Who the hell was that?" And they said "Rush."
Honestly, I'd never heard of them but that same week I picked up "Hemipheres" and their just-released "Permanent Waves" album and Iwas hooked! A friend of mine got tickets for their tour in 1980 and I saw them for the 1st time and never looked back. I saw them on every tour since then at least twice and as of R40, I had seen them a total of 37 times!
They were and are the soundtrack to my life. Even to this day, any time I listened to rush I always pick up something that I haven't picked up before or it gathers a new meaning to me that it didn't have before. Their music and Neil's ls lyrics are truly the gift that keeps on giving!🤘😎♥️
The Garden perfectly eulogizes Neil Peart. This song never fails to tug at my heartstrings. This is a fitting and beautifully done tribute to a man that deserved nothing less. He gave so much.
Hears The Garden:
Nope.
Nope not today. I've cried enough.
Me too brother. No shame in that. Neil......was special.
Neil was a stronger person than any of us realizes.. And his talent was just as epic. Thank you brave knight.
Well said. His inner strength comes across well in his books. Quiet resolve. And on my Mount Rushmore of great drummers until I (hopefully) join him in Xanadu.
Go neil.....show them how to rock up there....make us proud.
I wonder of he knew he was sick when he wrote these amazing lyrics.
Such a loss. Be with your family now Neil. RIP.
Thank you for the gifts you gave us all.
I believe he knew.
The typical survival time for Glioblastoma once diagnosed is 12 to 15 months. Less that 7% survive 5 years after diagnosis and that would be with a lot of treatment and physical and mental decline. Clockwork Angels came out in 2012 so there is no way he knew.
Where did he get those wild bass drum heads? His drum sets were works of art!!! Rest in peace bro, pain free, stress free, in the limelight forever. Thank you for opening my mind. 💕
I remember seeing my uncle cry when John Lennon was killed. I thought it's just a musician and public figure.
Now I get it 40 years later!!
Thank You, Neil
Ill never get tired of air drumming Peart
Beautiful tribute, I’m sure every heart broken Rush fan appreciates as much as I do. “The Garden” truly ONE of the most beautiful songs Neil wrote. The last song on the last album. Thank you Neil for 40 years of memories. RIP
phenominal drummer - im grateful he was from our generation and we got to experience his talents
Lovely tribute my friend, still gut punched and proccessing it...a small piece of me died when Neil left.
God Bless Neil. Until we meet again...
Loved Neil since 1979. He was the king of drums and lyrics but he was also a nice n funny guy. One memory I have is from early 90s. I was at a Rush concert I think in San Antonio. Towards the end of concert I moved to the right side of stage where Geddy usually plays. There was a guy standing on balcony there with his son. Neil sent his drumsticks to that kid as he exited.
A stage hand brought them
I thought that was so cool cuz I used to take my kid to Rush concert as well. Rest in peace and happiness!
"And if the music stops, there's only the sound of the rain"..... RIP Neil.
saw Van Halen in 1980 and enjoyed the spectacle.
Then heard Tom Sawyer on the radio, and had to (for the first time) have the entire album, not just the single.
Saw Rush in 1981 and realized what an effect a band could create w simply thier music. They were ordinary dudes doing extraordinary things. Kudos to the band for always bringing back classics, years later (Natural Science, Extended version of Analog Kid, Between the Wheels) And for the sheer drum intensity of Headlong Flight...... thank you Neal. Always
I've been thinking of his great lyric," I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend". But he always seemed to me to be a long awaited friend. RIP Neil.
The greatest drummer of all time in the greatest band of all time! RIP Neil.
Saw this video earlier. The Garden is a magnificent choice.
@Billy Idol 3 years or so, Neil has only been sick that long. It's unfortunate he didn't get a better retirement
R.I.P....best drummer ever ...hands down..you will be missed
Stork Legs yes, there are a few other drummers who could give Peart a run for his money. But an opinion is an opinion. I’m not usually like this, but this isn’t the video to fight on
RIP Neil
Kim, you got it right, best rock drummer ever, simple!Oh, best base and guitarist,so underrated,Alex and Geddy!
Yes indeed! Lifeson/Lee best as well! Best rock band ever!
I don't think he was sick then either, but I think he knew this was their last album and last tour.

Nicely done. Those last pictures of him taking a bow with the "guys at work" was a nice touch.
He was measured for greatness in a band that I have no doubt was brought together by God Himself. Thank you Lord for Neil Peart and RUSH and all they have given us. Thank you - long live RUSH!!!!!!!
A lifetime of music plays on in my head. While a lifetime of genius was cut short. Don’t take anything for granted. Here today and gone tomorrow. All we can do is Thank God for here today.
There´s a master of drum in this world. All Brazilian´s fans are shocked. Rest in peace, genius!
I have been a fan of Rush for over 40 years, the best band in the world ever, RIP Neil Peart, thanks for all the fabulous performances and unforgettable memories
I'm devastated. His nickname is Professor, but that isn't sufficient to describe his impact. Because there is no professor in history that touched as many lives, inspired so many to the craft, and had so much of a positive impact on current and future generations. It cannot be understated his impact on not just drumming, but on music. He inspired multi millions...no exaggeration.
I was in the same place as Neil 2 times....1975 and 77 and will never forget his talents. But at least he started doing interviews in the past few years that we can hear his voice about his thoughts. But now Neil has been called home to be with his first wife Jackie....and first daughter Selena.I only regret that Neil was a person that didn't believe in God.Well Neil Emmet Peart...……..RIP
Oh man, I feel sad. More of a Dream Theater guy, but man this song here has a strange melancholic feeling to it, knowing what just happened a week ago. Never saw them live. I hope Íll meet him in heaven someday, as all my loved ones. Just starting to dig Rush. My prayers to him and his family, may we all reunite in Heaven. Cheers from western Germany.
The PROFESSOR was needed by GOD ...... He got the BEST earth had to offer......RIP

Beautiful...I'm so heart broken!!!
Sometimes in life when sad news come in, it makes it much easier to manage one's emotions when someone you love so dearly delivers them.
Having said that, it was my son who first told me about Neil's death and if I were alone in this world, news like that would have been a lot more devastating than they were a that moment.
My heart felt condolences go to Neil's family that includes Geddy and Alex and the whole world wide Rush loyal fan base that will keep his music alive as the ghost rider encounters the sunset of his time on this world and into the next one, live on brother Neil.

My son told me too-
I have been a RUSH fan and a BIG Neil fan since the age of 15. Then in 2010-2011, I took a 10 year old stepson who was struggling with the ache of a Mom that left him, with me to see Rush on the Time Machine tour. He had joined the high school band searching for a way to cope and fit in and I guess take his mind off of things. He developed a love of the trumpet. But when he saw RUSH and especially Neil, he said to me, "Wow Dad, that totally changes my view of music." He is now 20, about to go into his 3rd year in college in pursuit of a masters in music. Plays in the college band, and in the college jazz band, which is where his heart is. He hopes eventually to become a music teacher himself after performing for a few years. All of this direction from a angry 10 yr old after one Rush show. I wish I could have thanked all three of the guys for that much help in getting him on the right path but especially Neil whom he thought was one of the greatest people, not only drummer.
I have to say, after all the struggles I had growing up and listening to all of those classic lps, THANK YOU! To Alex, Geddy, and Neil. Some of us may never be able to fully express how your music touched our lives.
My deepest thanks to RUSH for all the magical and mystical music I've enjoyed throughout my life. You will always be the best
To Neil's family...thank you for sharing this gifted individual with the world. To Alex and Geddy, thank you both for working with Neil and forming the most (in my opinion) important and inspirational bands in decades. Rush (and the group YES) formed my musical bassline growing up, and I am forever grateful for the experience of seeing them both in shows multiple times!! I hope that Neil and Chris Squire are already forming a band in heaven. Let's remember the gifts these guys have left us, all. RIP Neil.... We love you, brother...........

Thank you Neil for all of the beautiful words and amazing memories. You changed a lot of peoples lives.
So many pass away everyday. The crazy things is how certain people who pass leave a bigger foot print. I've been listening to rush all my life. Neil was truly one of the greatest drummers we've had the pleasure of hearing and watching. Not only that he was an amazing song writer and his music always spoke to me. So hard to believe he's gone... But we all must leave some day... So see you on the other side Neil... God bless!

Same here. Started at 14 in 1978 and I’m 56 now. Rush has been my #1 favorite band for the last 41 years. All 3 of them shaped my life. I took up drumming because of Neil. I have never admired a man so much. RIP Neil, I will always love you.
@@SoCal780 Im 56 also and feels like a life long friend is gone. All those songs and how they were soundtracks to those awesome years in the 70s and early 80s. Putting on 2112 with headphones late at night, sitting in low light with that gatefold in hand,, the imagery a 16 year old kids mind would create to those sounds. Kids today could never understand just how lucky our generation had it, growing up with this kind of music as a backdrop. Funny how the future just looks dimmer now with Neil not in it.
Bobby Boykin perfectly well said my friend. That’s exactly how it feels, a life long friend is gone. Neil wrote the soundtrack to our lives...
Count me in as a 58-year-old who first heard '2112' in the mid-seventies. Stone drunk...but through the haze I heard that first measure of concert toms at the beginning of "Temples Of Syrinx". I sat up. I knew then life was going to be different. Was going to be better. Went immediately on a Rush binge and never faltered in having the band's six. R.I.P. Professor. You were amazing......
Greatest drummer of all time. I felt an instant connection with him the first time I heard his playing.
Born in Hamilton, raised in St. Catharine's Ontario ... RIP beloved son , rock on in heaven forever more....
This has to be one of the beautiful tributes I have ever watched. Neil was, without a doubt, one of THE best drummers in the world....humble, brilliant and so talented. A true musical genius. I am so grateful to modern technology so I can continue enjoying the music that is RUSH.
A true King - A genuinely Honest and Modest person and an inspiration to millions of true music lovers. Shocked and extremely sad about the news. RIP Neil Peart.
Being that he was such a private man, what would he say to all of this? I wonder if he would be surprised at the outpouring of love and emotion at his loss? You mean so much to so many. You three are super heroes. You literally saved lives. Thank you Neil, thank you Rush for the color and beauty you brought into the world. I'm glad you are finally at peace, Professor. You earned it 💗
He would probably be touched but still think it was a little tough to deal with.
Usually, Two,s company, three,s a crowd but not in this case, what a wonderful, talented down to earth man that will sadly be missed by many.
Thank you for the happy memories I have whilst playing your music. R.I.P Neil
Crying all over again. Damn this is a hard one to accept.
hippiedad keep grieving as long as you need to. It’s a hard one.
How lucky we all are to have lived together in this time and shared in his artistry.
Legend Forever.
Thank you for inspiring me to play the drums.

My brother and I met Neil (and Alex) at this carnival in the parking lot of a suburban shopping plaza out of all places. They were both wearing black velvet suit jackets with RUSH sequined into the label... mom's work perhaps. The band had just released Fly By Night and my older brother, a drummer, was a big fan of both the band and Neil. He seen RUSH open for Manfred Mann at the U of T... they were booed right off the stage... nothing but feedback. I being much younger, told Neil that I never heard of the band. He told me that "
maybe someday you will". That turned out to be an under statement. The only time I seen the band LIVE with about a quarter million people at Sarsfest in Toronto 2003. Which is kind of strange when I thinkk about it.
I don't know if it because of these two events, or not, but with each passing day it just gets deeper. It really is on the same level as John Lennon or Jerry Garcia, those special musicians that will never be forgotten.
He will always be closest to our hearts
A Ghost rider and Muse joins his daughter and wife. Bittersweet.
Thank you Mr Peart for forming a large part of my musical appreciation.
What a lovely tribute. I am glad I saw Rush live. Growing up, we referred to Neil Peart as "the phenomenon."
@Eric Havnen get a life troll. The man just passed away. Regardless of whether or not you liked his music He deserves some measure of respect
@Eric Havnen perhaps you haven't noticed but, Neil Peart inspired and was loved from afar by many - myself included. I never met the man, however - from what I do know, he was a truly decent and highly intelligent human being.
IF there is any shred of decency left within YOU ... how about showing a bit of respect for his personal friends and family.
And finally, no. Their music did not suck. The sad fact is that you quite clearly have never truly listened to *real* music back in a time when it still had meaning. The trash produced today is nothing but noise filled with violence.
Now, off you pop troll.
What a beautiful tribute. Tears in my eyes...
Such a nice man, such a hard life! Rest easy Mr. Peart you left a mark the size of the Grand Canyon.
I'm still in shock. I just can't believe he has passed. Sadly missed in louisville
Hard to describe the impact Neil had on me as a young aspiring musician. I was soooo inspired by his style and technique. I probably played side 1 of Moving Pictures & Hemispheres, and my favorite tunes, La Villa Strangiato & Xanadu a 1000 times! It took years to learn all those challenging tunes. Thank you for your intelligence, your humility and your mastery. What a wonderful gift to the world. RIP
Still can't believe he is gone. RIP professor, gone but never forgotten.
Beautiful song... gonna play By tor and the snowdog after this video was the first song I listen from Rush... got so impressed with Neil Peart performance on that song... the Jedi Master...
Time Stand Still.........
R.I.P. Professor 🥁
A quiet and very private individual. I am glad I was able to take my wife to a Rush concert when I had the opportunity. I've introduced all of my kids to Rush. All the concerts in the Philly area in the early 80's. Many of them I told my Mom I was sleeping over at a friends house and then promptly headed to the concert right after school. He was truly gifted as all the members of the band were. RIP Neil.
I read recently that he was quoted as saying he didn't want to become famous, but rather to be good. Yet he achieved both fame, and mastery in drumming & songwriting.
ROCK on Professor!!!!
Neil will never die until his music will play, this is his legacy, music WILL NEVER DIE!!! 🤟🏼🤟🏿
