Neil Peart is Obsessed with sharing his experiences through words - like bicycling over the Alps (twice), the Pyrenees and the Rockies, and throughout West Africa. And since '96, he has traveled to every RUSH show, from Berlin to Buenos Aires, by motorcycle. Neil is also Obsessed with his 22" Paragon Ride. With its powerful, cutting bell and amazing expressive ability even at low dynamic levels, this is a cymbal that inspires.

He's such an intelligent man who's been through hell and back. Most people wouldn't have gotten back up after losing their
entire family like he did. This guy deserves nothing but 100% respect, not only as an artist, but as a human being.
Well said
He's the finest example of a human being and he's a hell of a rock star.
He is a remarkable individual. A personal inspiration for years.
He has been one of my main inspirations since I was in high school... not just as a fantastic and unique drummer, but also as a role model human being and the kind of man I aspire to be. Thanks, Neil!
Couldn;t have said it any better so I won;t even bother
Back in the 90's I was working in this little roadside cafe just north of San Antonio and this man comes walking in wearing full riding leathers & taking off his helmet. I INSTANTLY thought, "That guy looks just like Neil Pert!?" Why in the world would he be here in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the day? A few years later I found out about his North American Motorcycle tour which he wrote a book about. He was here when I thought I saw him! It really is a small world!
I had a similar thing happen backstage at a “the Chainsmokers” concert in San Diego when I saw someone who resembled Tom Delonge of blink 182. I didn’t even make the San Diego connection and a few days later the band put out a Vlog and it was Tom backstage. I felt stupid.
What a great story! 🥁🏍️
I am a truck driver from Halifax, Nova Scotia, I have delivered to the Sabian factory quite a few times. I have pictures of the plant, and have had a tour there. I have talked to the guys who made his cymbals. Some of them have motorcycles and Neil had his there as well, so the workers got the day off and spent it riding with him. They told me Neil was the most kindest, humble person they've ever met.
For some strange reason, I usually feel rather "uneducated" after watching a Peart interview.
RIGHT?AND TO THINK HE DROPPED OUT OF HIGHSCHOOL.
Me too LOL!!! HeZ such a well spoken man, and itZ so obvious that he seriously educated himself by reading and writing! His vocabulary and verbal articulation are second to none. I'm a college graduate and he speaks better than any college professor that I've ever had! No joke 😝!!!
I can’t help but feel a heavy heart watching this. I’ve been watching neils videos on UA-cam for a while and have hoped at some point he’d show his face again in an interview or musical performance after retiring. It really sucks that he is passed on now.... watching this now makes it feel like he is still alive....Neil was such a inspiring individual. Miss you professor...
But he's one of the few people I could listen talk all day.
The man who can make you want to play drums and also give up playing drums. So smart, the whole band are so intelligent.
Thank god this video isn't just a glorified advertisement like so many other kinds of videos like this. It feels like an honest interview instead of just shilling.
He has a great radio/talking book voice. He should record himself reading his own books.
The most respected person I’ve never met.
RIP Neil. Truly a legend!
And all this time I thought Neil was an introvert. How nice to see he really is talkative AND interesting.
Rest In Peace Neil. Such an intelligent man. We miss you!
He's nothing at all you would expect from a rock drummer so intelligent meticulous friendly he talks like he could be a brain surgeon.
R.I.P. We will forever miss you! :(
Still can't believe he's gone.
rockheadrocks Me too, dude. Me too.
Schweet! Aren't we lucky to have had Rush all these years?
A little late to the party but... I love that this video is centered around Subdivisions, my absolute favorite Rush tune, and what got me into Rush. Takes me right back to high school September '82.
Whether you like his playing or not, he definitely is a magnificent human being.
Neil Peart Is such an inspirational person overall.
After coming back to life and never giving up after losing his whole family to a car crash and cancer (within like 2 years)..he is one of the strongest men around today...not to mention (to me) the greatest, most creative, diverse drummer of all time.. and the greatest lyricist of all time (given the 40 year body of work of with 20 albums) he and being an all around intelligent, passionate man. He is a god
Agree!
It's gotta cost at least $20,000-$30,000, if not more.
The entire kit is a work of art. Simply beautiful.
That kit cost 100,000
Only specualtion but he didn't seem the type of person to allow himself to get hard and bitter in order to deal with the huge personal tragedies that must have been overwhelming. What a character to pick himself up every day and find something to give him solace. As an afterlife believer I can't think of anyone right now I'd wish more happiness for in the next one. Much love Neil
Good god, this man is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. Just listening to him speak exhausts me...no pauses or stammers or "uhhs", regardless of the subject at hand.
He truly is "the Professor", and one of my heroes, both musically and intellectually.
By far one of my favorite Neil Peart interviews. These are his passionate obsessions, He has been probably the biggest influence in my life not just as a drummer, but all he has been through and has lost and overcome. He has been a pillar of strength in how he chose to overcome those life circumstances. The more I listen to him the less I watched him play because he has more to say then he does to express on drums, to me, I don't play like him, but you can hear his influence in my playing. Every interview I have watch and watched again, I always walked away with something new. Just an amazing man and all he has had to shoulder and overcome, all he has experience and has shared. Honestly, probably one of the most influential artist ever. Once you hear him play, once you hear him talk about life, you become obsessed.
His life was cut short but no one can say he didn't live those 67 years to the fullest!
This Guy is simply magnificent , what a drummer
Neil thanks for sending me those "concert used" drum sticks. Thanks Anthem Records. Very interesting guy.
This is so awesome... quite a few years ago, I actually had the privilege of having the opportunity to work with Mark Love, as Neil started mentionning at 7:51! Needless to say more: It was an amazing day!!! A dream come true for any drummer!!!
I love hearing Neil just being Neil and talking about his crafts. I'm so glad he shared this stuff with us before his untimely departure from this earthly plain.
"Certain reverses in life" is such a beautifully elegant but understated way or mentioning the hell he went through. What an amazing person he was.
Clockwork Angels is not shit, good sir. It is absolutely amazing and certainly on par with 2112 (which I consider their stellar album). I have seen Rush twice during the Clockwork Angels Tour - why don't you put on a pair of headphones and listen to Caravan, The Wreckers, The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, Headlong Flight, the Garden and of course Clockwork Angels. In these tunes you'll hear Rush at their best yet - they continue to amaze me. These boys can still rock out!!
YEAH!!!!!! New Brunswick, where i come from. I was thinking that new brunswick was in the middle of nowhere and nobody know where it was but the fact that Neil Peart came in new brunswick, Its like a dream!!! Thanks Sabian to be in New Brunswick.
Well, I've been obsessed with his bands music since I was a kid.....now it's time to read all of his books I guess.
Neil was awesome and a huge inspiration. Luckily I saw Rush in Malmø in 2011 on the Time Machine tour and I bought a Neil Peart Sabian Paragon ride cymbals some years ago - the one he describes from 7:45 and forward. I think of him every time I play it.
😭😢😩RIP Neil🔥❤️🕊🙏
Gone but not forgotten. The music , lyrics, books, videos will live on forever. One of the greats , ladies and gentlemen the professor of the drum kit Mr Neil Peart 🥁🥁🥁.
The original backing track of Subdivisions (in this video) was played on Zildjian cymbals .... not Sabian.
Rest well Professor.
Well spoken, incredibly educated, versed in geography, world traveler, absolute gentleman and not only a drummer's drummer but gifted beyond measure. Thank you Neil for everything I've ever learned from you. It's truly a blessing to have had met you at were able to speak at length about life in general not just music. You are truly missed. 🥁🤘
Motorcycling heals. Glad to share this sport with another all weather rider. Always keeps you fresh and alive.
Neil Peart is a master communicator that infuses our brains with impressive realms of analytical language. The manner in which he parallels his drum treatment to language construct is intriguing. Just listening to his use of vocabulary, articulate analogies, and abstract mental journeys is captivating. We may feel the sting of a retired musician but the world continues to reap a window to brilliance with his literary works.
I've been waiting for this video forever.
The clock on the bass drum is set to 9:12, which could also be interpreted as 21:12
What aninteresting guy.Wish i could have a chat with him...
always has something interesting to say
What a vocabulary on this man!
The two lines between his eyes are so awesome!!
I can't wait to see him on Friday.
This clip is excellent, very impressive prolific creative human being !
Only two perfect people ever walked the earth.,,JESUS and NEAL PEART!Thanks for sharing you are my hero Neal!
I started drumming at thirteen too..but I learned almost everything from you!I would run home every day from school to play the newest Rush album and Id play it for hours!I love the talking keep it up!Lets us see inside a drummers genius mind thanks again!
The Paragon cymbal line is such an awesome sounding series!! Love it and you gotta love Neil!!
I am obsessed with Neil Peart!!
He is the professor after all.
I saw Rush twice....once in Schererrville,Indiana 1975 when Fly By Night was ready to be released....and in 1978 in Chicago 2112 tour.....my fave album
'certain reverses in life'; so eloquently phrased.
Such an INTERESTING and demonstrative take on someone who's rather "private" and "personal" on his life!! Thanks for sharing this.
I bought the R30 DVDs a few years ago, one of the best shows I've ever seen (on a tv that is) but I had a great sound system.
I always hoped I would see him somewhere while I’m riding my motorcycle. I have the same one he had and have ridden to some of the same places.
I am so thankful that I was blessed with the life of professor Peart you are the absolute greatest role model I have ever had
RIP Professor Peart my friend 💔🙏
One of my all time favorites if not my all time
After all this time still having trouble that Neil is no longer with us he was my inspiration.R.I.P Neil
Neil was such a spark of energy! The stars in the Universe really lined up when they brought him into the world. I'm saddened he had to leave. It was too soon. RIP Neil...
I really enjoy listening to neil as he shares his philosophy to the drums and just yo life in general. Although life happens to us all, Neil seems to keep the drama that affects most rock stars to a much lower key. I liked how he told of staying in touch with humanity rather the cloisture or the tour. Helping him keep a balance. Kudos to you Neil. Your a breath of fresh air.
I am in awe of this man.
I'm glad I've never met him, I would have geeked out.
Hell of a drummer hands down...
"Suddenly You were gone from all the lives you left your mark upon" Rest in peace Neil.....
Wow.. who'd have thought that much work would go into on cymbal?!
I think the red nose is from all the riding. To get a red nose from drinking would require habitual drinking to excess ... which would have taken it's toll over the years and leave him unable to do what he does.
Haha the clock on the bass drum is 9:12 /// 24hr clock it's 21:12. Of course.
9/12 is Neil's bday
Interesting observation
Shh, favorite song, quiet down so I can hear Neil talk.
Wish I could be as focused as him.
Comunication is an Obsession it's called Life, and in song it works for me!
All stories are for you at all times, the end is for you to call!
A master in drums and life!
Really miss Neil.....love you forever man....Peace.
Gênio, gênio... Além de grande músico, grande ser humano.
awesome interview. Makes me like Neil even more!
No one is the best drummer in the world, but Neil is my favourite and is certainly in that league.
I love this drum kit so much! If I had enough money, I would buy a replica
It's been 2 weeks now, and I'm still bummed.
"Neil Ellwood Peart"
September 12, 1952 --- January 7, 2020
"A Farewell to a King"
un hombre y musico extraordinario, mi gran admiracion por un maestro y una inspiracion para muchos "BATERISTAS"
saw them 10.10.12 in CT. I hope they get inducted in the R and R hall of fame. They are long overdue!
Not only was he a brilliant drummer, he was an amazing human being!
What I have always found interesting about this...it's a Sabian ad..but the background soundtrack (Subdivisions) is from his Zildjian era..thus they aren't Sabian at all. Just an interesting observation.
What's also interesting is that not only the recorded cymbals were zildjian .. But the the recorded drums were Tama.
MyTony40 There is that as well!!
+pjones8404 Also, the China crashes (which feature so prominently in this song) are performed with a Wuhan 18.
I guess the only constant were the ProMark 747 sticks! LOL
pjones8404 lol. 😂
What a sweet, talented, intelligent, insightful and interesting (ad infinitum) guy Neil is. Such a cool human being! And for that, and also for being possibly the greatest drummer this planet has ever birthed, i kneel before this great man. The word 'Legend' just doesn't seem sufficient. We love you, Neil... \m/ (:o)
A temporary cosmetic problem with his nose? That's all you took away from this incredibly generous video? So, the whole bit about his self-education and self-development -- decade after decade ... His love of people, life and the instrument ... The way he dealt with the loss of his wife ... The way, as legendary as he is, he sought out Peter Erskine to take his playing to the next level ... The humility, professionalism, depth, breadth ... Boy, you missed a lot of lessons here.
the best drummer of all time
What a brilliant man, he is a god of music
you don't often hear "cloistered" used when describing travel, nicely packaged wording describing touring in a rock band
Imagine Neil’s voice used for an audiobook of one of his books
Thanks for sharing this is a great video :-)
what is the song he is playing at 7:30 i don't know many rush songs but love that drum beat and want to learn it can any of you rush fanatics help me out!!
Subdivisions!.....
Great men do great things! Neil is among the greatest.
I could listen to him talk for 2 hrs about dryer lint and be completely riveted
An absolute musical genius. Neil Peart.
I would be obsessed as well if I had $$$$$ worth of Sabian metal on my drum kit
odd - the whole time he's talking about cymbals and we're watching and hearing him play, we're hearing the original studio recording of Subdivisions - so we're hearing Zildjian cymbals.
FIINAAllyyy u made this one! been waiting for this one for a looong time... lol
subdivisions... is the song....
Such an interesting individual.
