I was very surprised to hear they didn’t party together after the last show. I think toward the end of the tour, there were talks about adding a few more shows and Neil said no. Maybe there was some initial resentment between Geddy/Alex and Neil that night?

Yeah, I still haven't gotten over it TBH. Part of me is even still a bit "mad," in a way, that we never got the chance to thank him as fans so that he truly understood how much he meant to us. I know he wanted privacy in the final days, but it was like finding out a family member had been killed in an accident when the news broke. I just feel the grieving process would have been easier if we would have had time to reflect more.

That Neil was constantly learning and saw himself as a student of the drums illustrates his dedication to the instruments. The way he travelled between shows, for me, illustrates how he didn’t want to fall in to the trap of being the idol surrounded by his fans, something he wasn’t comfortable with. That he could easily go from lunch in a roadside cafe to playing in front of tens of thousands shows how he let his drumming do the talking. When he did give interviews, though, you realised that this was a deep, intelligent individual. Everything about Neil Peart, and Rush generally, was something worth being inspired by!

I was coming home from work on a Friday evening. The 6PM radio news break started off the station's hour. They segued into it by playing the intro to Tom Sawyer, and the news anchor began and said, "It's a sad day in the world of music today......," and I just knew. The next day CBS was broadcasting their NFL playoff game for that day and used RUSH for their bumper music as they broke for commercials. I thought of whatever broadcast technician for CBS who put those in and wondered if he had a tear running like I did.

Neil was technically one of the best drummers to ever have played and continued to challenge himself with new genres (including jazz) and new playing styles such being able to play with both the matched grip (his primary grip) and standard grip. He is in the Pantheon of drummers with Moon, Bonham etc. Being in a 3 piece rock band enabled him to grow in that every instrument needed to be a lead instrument. What is often overlooked is that he was a fine lyricist as well. Rush also demonstrates the creativity and longevity a band can have if they avoid addictions.

My heart was so heavy when I heard that Neil had passed. I had just lost my brother the same week. When my son informed me of Neil's passing I thought he was playing a cruel joke on me only to be shocked to find out it was true. I was a Rush fan long before I even knew I was capable of playing the drums to which Neil became a huge inspiration.

Neil was the drummers inspiration, the act impossible to follow, always a step ahead of others. There are many great drummers, but Neil was greatness in music time, melodic percussion and lyric. My life playing drums with John Bonham and Neil Peart inspirations was a blessing. Neil you will never be forgotten. RIP.

Neil was the embodiment of a true drummer, always learning and never his own master, creative to the nth degree, his chops and phrasing were...."what did he just do?" never the finished article,i've tried and failed to play some of neils work...and thats when you realise that he was on a level that only really technical and dedicated drummers can attain or even come near to replicating.he was definately up there in the ether with is ability.RIP Professor.

The second drum fill after "The meek shall inherit the earth" 2112 Overture/The Temples Of Syrinx. Probably the best spontaneous drum fill ever recorded period. Remember this was Two inch tape recording, no pro tools here, get it right the first time! I worked that fill so many times and his fluidity and precision was uncanny. 20 plus years and never could get the touch and flow of that fill. Geddy starts singing right at the end of the fill but I have heard an isolated version and it is spectacular.
