DRIVEN: 992.2 Porsche GT3 - Back Seats or Big Wing? | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- In this episode we review the new Porsche 911 GT3 - the 992.2 generation if you like your model numbers. Donning his finest James Hoffmann T-shirt, Henry Catchpole wonders if the choice of options for the GT3 has now made it a bit like coffee. Where once the questions were simply ‘milk and sugar?’ or ‘Clubsport? Colour?’, now you have an almost bewildering number of ways in which you can get your caffeine and naturally aspirated rear-engined kicks.
We drive the new GT3 on both road and track in Spain. For the roads around Valencia we have a GT3 with Touring pack, Lightweight pack, new folding bucket seats and rear seats. The paint is a rather lovely 964 Polar Silver Metallic (a paint to sample colour). With a six-speed manual gearbox, is it most of the way to a 911S/T or is it more of a daily proposition now that it can carry two (small) people in the back?
On the Circuit Ricardo Tormo we drove a GT3 with a wing and a Weissach pack (the first time one has been available on a non-RS GT3), complete with carbon roll cage and the new Magnesium wheels that save 9.1kg or 20lbs over the standard aluminium alloy rims. For the track we also had a PDK gearbox, which, like the manual, has eight per cent shorter ratios than the previous generation.
The new ratios are to help compensate for a slight decrease in overall torque from the 4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine. It still revs to 9000rpm, sounds amazing and produces 503bhp, but maximum torque has gone down from 347lb ft to 332lb ft. To find out about the challenges of simply keeping the naturally aspirated engine alive in the face of ever more stringent regulations, Henry Catchpole spoke to Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s Director of GT Cars. They also discussed a different sort of Nurburgring lap time for this generation…
And on the subject of fast laps, Henry jumped on-board with the ever-spectacular Jörg Bergmeister. You won’t want to miss it as he assaults the kerbs with almost unbelievable commitment. It’s worth pointing out that Jörg is also driving exactly the same car as Henry with no special preparation and on the same Michelin Cup 2 tyres (2 R rubber is available as an option).
The price of the new 911 GT3 is £157,300 in the UK and $222,500 in the USA. That is, of course before options, which can quickly add up. The Weissach Package (without carbon roll cage) costs £15,597 or $19,330 while the Lightweight Package for the Touring costs £29,223 or $36,010 and the new folding lightweight bucket seats cost £5,390 or $6860.
We hope you enjoy this review of the new Porsche 911 GT3 on Hagerty. Which variant would you have? Wing? No Wing? Manual? PDK? Let us know in the comments down below. For now we’ll say thank you so much for watching and we hope you have a great day.

Hope you all enjoy this. I’d be intrigued to know how you’d all spec yours… wing, no wing, back seats, lightweight, Weissach…? But for now, I’ll say thank you so much for watching and I hope you have a great day (with apologies to James Hoffmann!).
Let's be real. Speccing it on their website is the closest to most of us will ever get to an allocation 😅
I would actually like to know what YOU drive Henry?
If it was my daily driver I’d go Touring. If it was a weekend car, probably wing.
Bone stock 911 if free options given to me and keep the extra 150k. I would loose my license in 1 day. Besides driving it around in traffic is just a waist of the car, you just can't use it anywhere on the street. Even if I drove them back to back I doubt I would notice the difference on the street.
I am happy they keep pushing the boundary, building better. Honestly though nobody needs one to get milk
When 2018s in Canada are still going for 480 grand it'll be a long time until i can afford anything other than my 996
Touring with a manual in dark green and a cognac leather interior. Heaven! Oh and keep the rear seats...always handy.
And brother don't forget golden yellow mag wheels
Gentleman spec 👏🏻
@@jack073 Too poor for a GT3, but I have a dark green 991 with dark brown leather inside. Love it, and because of me being not rich enough to swap it will (hopefully) allways stay my car.
One issue. Cannot spec interior with 4 seats in any other colour than black….
@@AdamWardachwow that's disappointing
The new GT3 proves that Porsche remains as the only company that ACTUALLY listens to is customers. The touring has rear seats for god sake! What a machine.
They might also reintroduce the analogue rev counter and racing style starter button back for the next gen 911. Their design boss obviously acknowledged that those changes were met with disappointment by the customers.
Porsche is truly goated.
Porsche AND Mazda with the Miata..
How many People will actually use the rare seats in this car. Bad enough people just buy them for crazy overs, park them as garage queens and bring them out to CC,etc. in what world will you see the same people put actually people in rear seats if you can actually fit one in there which you can if they are 10yr old. So seats are kinda useless but the price is 30-40k more, less toque, same power etc. some advancement
Eco 😉
Yet again, the US dealers charge ridiculous markups on their new cars, and that plus the huge MSRP price increase from Porsche make the car that much more out of reach of long-time enthusiasts. A medium spec car now will cost you in the mid $300K range in the states with taxes and markup, and now that puts it on par with lightly used Huricans, 720S's and 488/F8 Ferraris, which GT3's were never made to compete with. I'd like to consider changing out my 991.2 GT3 for a new one, but it is definitely not a $100-150K better car.
Catchpole and a GT3, something we'll never get tired of!
@@Goonswami YES!!!
That on board was AMAZING!! It's refreshing to see someone pushing a car instead of just drifting for the camera.
OMG that seat creaking would be a dealbreaker.
Damn it.. Being an owner of an M3 and a Skyline GTR, I never thought I would become a Porsche fan boy - but here we are.. GT3, with a manual, carbon pack, yes pls.
Henry + GT3 + great mics and cameras + no music = automotive nirvana. All other shows take note
I had an e30 m3, an r32 gtr and now a 991.2gt3 manual. Been blessed to have had some awesome cars. The gt3 is utterly fantastic
@@markgtrheyes legend 👏 F80 + R34 here
@ELZ-R good man. Enjoy!!
I'm sure James Hoffmann (if he were a car guy) would be ecstatic to see you wearing his gear
I feel like they’re twins separated at birth. One went to coffee, the other went to cars
Same person different font
@@ofthenearfuture if James doesn't drive an aircooled 911, he should
@@augustbair5188his other car would probably be an original mini or 500
The collaboration we deserve.
As always, my favorite content is from Catchpole, sponsored by Hagerty.
As a PS, that red 997.2 GT3 is the secret star of this whole episode.
@ The beauty of Porsche’s design philosophy is that the older gens still (mostly) look relevant. Desirable too, subjectively. That 997.2 stood out tho, goddamn. So did the 997.1.
@@Coreal07 yes
That’s the one I’d take of them all. 997.2 with a 6 speed manual. Favourite Porsche of all time.
@@RevheadrevIt’s a good one
That creaking is insane
@@Shauny808 yea, I thought I was hearing things. Sounds like that seat is talkative . . .
992 have Big issues with that.
Yeah like sailing ⛵️ an old boat
I thought maybe it was the camera rig but then the footage would’ve had tells. That car is loose😂
Absolutely INSANE. Couldn't live with that.
Hoffman: “you can use my b-roll of coffee stuff if you wear my bloody shirt.” Lol great video as always Henry
You see YT notification: Henry Catchpole and new Porsche 911 GTR, drop everything and watch it 😍😍🤟🤟
How Porsche managed to improve on last gen GT3 is just awesome.
The Touring GT3 with manual, in green with bronze wheels just simply perfection.
Great video keep it up Hagerty team. Jason Cammisa probably jealous as hell he didn't get first drive 😂😂😂
That hot lap was AWESOME
Imo the GT3 Touring is hands down the best 911 available today. It checks all the right boxes while being simply beautiful. Sometimes less is more.
“Less is more” except for price of course 😂😂😂
The new GTS Hybrid is more than enough for my needs.
💯 agree
Greatest footage ever been made about a new GT3 Model. Epic cinematography. Great sound. Epic car! And Henry, Jörg & Andreas. Unfortunately I need a GT3 now.
henry and chris harris are on a different level. The second i see a video pop up that either of them are involved in, i make a cup of coffee and sit down and look forward to unrivaled motor journalism, the passion and enthusiasm are just BETTER! superb as always Henry. cheers
Agreed. They are easily the best.
That hot lap man at the end, that machine is lit. Nice camera work and editing also, Winning!!!
Thank you Hagerty 21:9 aspect ratio on my Sony Xperia is filled beautifully, watching such a cool video on this phone with no black bars on either side is a treat!
That 997.2, chef's kiss.
Brilliant, Henry. A pleasure to watch. Let's all sincerely hope this car can continue to be built and developed......
Great work, as always!! Everyone wants a GT3 but few will ever drive it close to its limits.
True, and on most road close to impossible. And also true for any modern sports car.
Ok, that's it. I have absolutely no need to watch any other review on the new GT3. I was smiling throughout the whole video. :-))
Brilliant Henry 👏👏👏👏👏. Those driving shots and angles too....wow what masterpiece 😉🫂
Speaks volumes that I can't be arsed even watching the Top Gear vid. Henry's the perfect reason.
Totally agree. Always check for Henry’s content before watching theirs.
by far the most enjoyable car reviewer to watch and its not even close
Heads above the other GT3 tests floating about. Henry is really coming into his own and rightfully so.
Here is where Top gear failed reviewing this car....
They had manual GT3 and PDK Touring where Hagerty had it reversed.....true realistic review....❤
But Henry vs Jethro that's a tough one lol 😅
Different level of videography with Haggerty than any other outlet. Sensational footage, fellas. Car looks alright, too...
That hot lap was insane
Several screenshots were taken.
Many gorgeous wallpapers.
6:55 glad I didn’t jump the gun and comment on the creaking sounds earlier in the video. Good journalism!
Catchpole and Porsche, Combination that works all the time.
Wearing the hoff tee loud and proud! :D
I'd spec mine as an Aston Martin Vantage haha........but seriously, for me, I prefer the subtle look, so no wing and no back seat. It sounds glorious. Mr Catchpole, you remain the finest automotive journalist, bar none, whether that be in print or on film!
Great video. Bergmeister smashing every single curb on the whole track is just heaven
At this Point, Henry could make a 30 minute review of a La Marzocco Coffee Machine and I would watch it!
Here for Harry and Jorg, but appreciated the Eames’ reference!
it looks so stable and amazing over bumps , Henry was hardly moving at all in the seat. and sounds incredible
Excellent. That filming at the end was great! The automotive journalist from the UK are the best!
Fantastic film Henry thanks!
Wonderful video as always Henry, as much as I love the GT3RS my dream car would absolutely be the GT3 Touring in manual, without back seats if possible
I like how they have formatted the video aspect ratio of the video to fit the full screen of my phone (and most phones?) for the full immersive experience..naiise❤
Porsche has mastered the art of evolution. All the 911s are a gradual change from the previous one, not something insane and love it
You always make me want to take my B7 RS4 for a drive over a pass after watching your reviews...thank you! Keep up the good work!
Great review !! Henry + gt3 Porsche remains an absolute benchmark!
Henry, another great review. The discussion on rear seat vs sound track was priceless. I have 2018 Touring (picked up in Leipzig you gave me Euro routes) and the rear seats would’ve been a nice option to dampen the soundtrack on longer days in the seat covering long distances.
Sooo when are we getting the James Hoffman and Henry Catchpole collab?? That would be some incredible watching right there!
Amazing film on an amazing car none the less, will never get tired of listening to the man or the car 👌🔥
Hoping u r going to drive all the gen! Now THAT would be great. By the way Henry is in a league of his own as a presenter and tester. The best in case you hadn’t realised.
I'd buy one in a heartbeat - except I don't want the 2 Taycans you have to buy just to get on the waiting list.
Haha so true
Loved the Eames reference,
Stunning Henry. Stunning.
Really nice review and video. What a car and Well done Henry
This is by far the most desirable and best Porsche ever and being available in manual is probably the best thing ever - Love me some manual performance cars ❤🎉
Props to Porsche for making high reviving NA manual driver’s cars 👍
BTW: He’s wearing Autodromo Mobil limited edition watch.
Thanks for the review. We can all dream.
I have that Hoffee Coffee T-shirt!!
That lap with Jörg was amazing!!
No wing for me but mag wheels for sure. Manual obviously but I would look for tuners services afterwards just to return to analog gauges and hydraulic steering if it's possible at all. I wonder if titanium disc are better and lighter then carbon-ceramic ones?
Like Henry said: "ill take it any spec as someone wants to buy it for me".
Henry always does THE best reviews.
Henry: you are one of my automotive journalist heroes. Nice nod at the start of this video to your brilliant earlier piece (June 2018) on why manual matters, one of the best and most important automotive pieces ever done. Keep up the great, deeply thoughtful and well edited work. Coffee and a course for sure if our paths ever cross. Cheers.
Saw a GT3 RS absolutely dominant at my local autocross. Was working the cones during his run. It’s a crazy thing to hear, see and feel standing like 10-20 feet away while it’s really being pushed. Not really a Porsche guy but they are truly amazing machines.
From one fellow car & coffee nerd to another. Love the hoffee coffee T shirt I have the same one.
I am happy that the interview with Andreas was conducted between the 996.2 and the 997.1 era GT3s. 😊. The good old days.
Henry is the master of these sort of reviews! If I was in the market for a GT3, it would be a touring in Aventurine Green with rear seats, probably PDK and a heritage interior, not the buckets for me.
That was an amazing drive!
If UA-cam allowed photo for comment, James Hoffman’s video is next on my screen 😂 love the production, love the t shirt!
Henry’s reviews are the best.
No one makes entertaining videos like you, thanks 🙏
that was some serious driving skills there, from both of you
Amazing video like always , I have been following you for at least 10 years . love your reviews!
That 997.2 is a master piece man.
Amazing journalism...
THE BEST.
That creaking while driving ?? Oh no couldn’t put up with that .
Gt3 have all the right ingredients well blended….
Legendary ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@HenryCatchpole, you really are very good at this. You, Chris Harris and Harry Metcalfe are my top 3 Motoring Journos. Mine would be the Touring, British racing green over a tan interior with bronzed rims. Please and thank you.
Yet another great GT3. The video’s not bad either. 😊
Awesome to hear Porsche go for a manual lap time. Yes, DCTs are quicker, fact, but a manual laptime could be more relatable to older GT3s.
I can afford only Hot Wheels version so can't really customize but oh My God is this thing beautiful....
Fab video as always by Henry C ❤
Great to sit next to Jorg Bergmeister for a lap. Maybe next time make that two laps!
superb as always Henry
Harry reviewing a brand new GT3? Yes, please!
An excellent watch ... it's the new damper / firmware / bump-stop arrangement that excites me most. Money no object ? One of each in their most extreme forms, Touring in manual and Winged in PDK ... of course :) (What will Manthey say ??)
Great journalism Henry, what a car !
HNY Henry!! Looking forward to all your great car reviews for Hagerty in 2025!!
Wow the body painted front plates in the bumper look great! That might be the way to go instead of the black
We’re lucky to ride with one of the Porsche drivers that races for Porsche. He’s a awesome driver.
My dream spec GT3 right there. Great vid
One takeaway I've learned from watching all these 992.2 GT3 videos: Jorg Bergmeister is a madman.
AP is the hero we needed!
Hay Zoos, Henry giving it the herbs on the corners..
Seeing Jorg absolutely haul a** while dodging cones reminds me why the phrase "built different" exists
What a car! Almost as good as my V6 manual F-type 😍
That was awesome when you went sideways going up the hill that’s the way to do it in the Porsche
Catchpole can’t stop grinning.
That is some spirited driving 😄
Exceptional, in all aspects!
FANTASTIC.🤩
It's hard to explain the satisfaction of being on track and hopping over every shoulder on every corner 😏
Again, Mr. Catchpole, a brlliant report. Having owned a 997GT3, I still regret selling her… But I found her too harsh and low on roadtrips.
If you only watch one, this should be it 👌
