Traveling around Marquesas part 1 - Ep. 192

- French Polynesia consists of archipelagos which are all very different. I will visit three of them. Marquesas, Tuamotus and Society islands.
The Marquesas are mostly steep-to, high volcanic mountains. The Tuamotus are the atolls, het original volcanoes now completely submerged; the society islands are at the phase in between, with high volcanic mountains ringed by shallow lagoons with a fringing reef. De distances between the archipelagos require a shift back into passage mode on board.
The Marquesas are some of the most remote inhabited islands on Earth. Once you have sailed the long passage from Panama, like I did, after 4000 NM I found myself in awe of this beautiful scenery. The high islands are the sentinels as you arrive in French Polynesia. I was impressed by the culture and the warm and generous nature of the people.
In this video I will show you the islands Fatu Hiva, Hiva-Oa, Ua-pou and in the next video Nuku Hiva.

Cool video again! Love that you visited Jaques Brel’s and Gaugins resting place, love Brel’s story about his yacht the Askoy II. His boat was rotting away somewhere and is now fully restored in Oostende ☀️
Thank you. Very nice indeed that they restored the boat. It is going back in the water shortly I heard.
Wonderful video. I spent weeks in Nuuk Hiva. Keep up the awesome videos. Lekker bly.
Me too. Nuku Hiva is very nice. Thanks! Looking forward to all your lovely comments

Hello Jaqueline, the nice flying Dutch woman.
You are in heaven, Paul Gauguin, Brel, local tradition, so gooood!
Love your way to make drying bananas
By the way, I didn’t see you using your trolley fishing gear, to try to catch some fish…
Maybe one day, cross fingers…
Take care
The banana drying didn’t work out in the end unfortunately. The fishing real I have not tried yet. Still having trouble with the idea of bringing fish on board and killing them
@@sailingloveworkx killing a fish on yacht with name LOVEWORKX don't go well I think😅
You doing very well Dutch Lady.Continue dutch seafaring tradition 😉cheers from Australia Perth
Thanks Peter! Nice to hear from you
👍
Thanks!
😎
Thanks!
Question about your Grinde 27: Did you discover and choose this boat before or after you found Holly Martin / WindHippie on UA-cam and Patreon?
When I was 18 years old we also had a Grinde. I was wondering if I could do a circumnavigation with this type of boat. And when I went looking for people sailing a Grinde around the world, I found Holly/Windhippie sailing. So inspiring to see all her videos!
