  • MINDst Drums is a brand new drum sample library and groove collection that uses a different form of samples and algorithm than I have ever seen. Modalics, creator of Beat Scholar, recently released this drum VST called MINDst Drums ("mind set drums"). Using a custom DW kit with custom Bosphorus cymbals designed by drummer Doron Giat, it includes a huge amount of grooves, 50,000 samples and more articulations than you'll ever need. With 10 gigs of 16-bit sample quality and a whopping 26 gigs for the 24-bit version, you won't believe the incredible sounds you can create. Don't miss out on this game-changing drum plugin - subscribe now for more music production tips and tricks!
    In this video, I cover using this plugin with electronic drums and I cover some presets, MIDI stuff, the mixer capabilities, and more.

    A note about the reactive samples (EDITED): The reactive samples are available all over the kit. In the video I wasn't sure if it was only for the snare or for them all, but Modalics responds in a reply to this comment (read below) with the specifics.
    It's one nuance of the algorithm in this plugin that make this a great sample kit which pushes for more realism. Plus, 50,000 samples for one drum kit is some serious sample depth!

      Thank you for this amazing review!
      Actually all the samples and articulations have an additional "reactive" equivalent set that is auto-triggered when you play a snare roll, run through HHs or rides, etc.
      The snare specifically has an extra reactive note that can let you trigger all these special reactive articulations like 2-stroke on the snare.
      But for example if you just play super fast "regular" snares you'll still get automatic 'reactive' samples. Both the 'from silence' and 'reactive' samples all have a ton of round robins in them, as well.

    Was this very "plug and play" right out of the box? That is, you selected your e-drums as a midi controller in the plug-in and boom, those dynamics were there? Are you bypassing the v-drum brain? Thanks!

      Thanks for watching. for your question, I touch on this in the video but essentially it was 85% plug'nplay for my td17 kit. I had to adjust the hihat settings, as shown in the video, plus you might have to play with the little openness graph in that hihat setting window, for your kit. Overall it was not hard at all. You will almost always have to do a MIDI Learn or two for at least SOMEthing for every plugin/sample library.

    three zone on snare work on td17 module? or work only with module and snare that support positional sensing like td27 and 50?

    • @eDrumsandVSTs
      @eDrumsandVSTs  5 місяців тому

      Hi, thanks for watching -- I address this in the video, but basically to make the 3 zones of the snare work for positional sensing for roland modules, you'll need to use a CC->note converter for your DAW. Roland uses CC data to convey where you play on the snare (inside, middle, edge). the actual midi note the module sends out is the same MIDI note all the time. The CC numnber will change to indicate where you hit the snare head. In this library, each snare head position is a whole separate MIDI note. Thus you'd need to convert the incoming MIDI CC data to the separate MIDI note as expected by MINDst Drums.

      @emanuelpelide7667 5 місяців тому

      Ok I have td 17 too, but I know td17 not send cc midi note because it don't have positional sensing... But in video I see that three zone work on your pdx 12, it's correct?

    • @eDrumsandVSTs
      @eDrumsandVSTs  5 місяців тому +1

      @@emanuelpelide7667 Oh I see what you are asking. In this plugin, you can choose which of the three zones will play when you hit the snare pad. So it will not change from center to edge automatically, but you can manually choose to have it play the center, or mid, or edge sounds when you strike your pad.

      @@eDrumsandVSTs ah ok,simply positional sensing don't work on td 17, 😉. It seemed strange because td17 don't send cc message. Thank for reply

    The only thing that I don't like it at all is the GUI... seems like a "hobbyist" plugin open source...

    • @eDrumsandVSTs
      @eDrumsandVSTs  15 днів тому

      Interesting -- I didnt get that impression. Usually the open source stuff doesnt have the kit in the GUI, etc. But I guess as they say, it's the sounds that matter most!

      @@eDrumsandVSTs I mean, when you compare it to Superior Drummer, EZDrummer, MODO Drums, BFD Player, just to mention the most aesthetic... MINDst looks very little worked in the graphical aspect. And I say this with the best of intentions, because your video is a clear example that this drum can sound much better than the ones I mentioned. Then... if we already have a great sound engine, with excellent samples... well I think that now they could work on polishing the interface a little, as a graphic designer, I tell you that it looks like a plugin from the 2000's. or windows XP. But hey, it's just a subjective opinion... although I think you get my point.

      @@davidvierabarreras Ahh, you are a graphic designer. You're looking at it with a trained eye then. So you probably see things about it that I dont even see. You are probably right. I think the menus probably are an issue aesthetically. But yeah, overall, you probably have an eye for cohesive UI design and color schemes than most others.
