One thing that God has used significantly in helping me beat pornography, is just being outdoors with Him. Just talking with Him, taking videos/pictures of nature and thanking Him for those videos and pictures, has really helped me to say no to pornography. Ultimately, it's God working in me that helps the most

Not to detract from your testimony, but what you've described is a 'substituted activity' and it's a secular technique also. BUT - apparently God has spoken to you during your struggle, and that's what it's all about..

Brother Todd this video was spot on for me at this moment in my life. I had to repent for those false gods I allowed in my life, instead of running to Jesus for comfort, strength, joy, peace, calmness.
This is so true and I didn't know it. I'm glad I know now because I want to make Jesus as my absolute God in every area of my life.
He is so good and compassionate. And He still loves me, forgives me and is in the process of making me more like Jesus inspite of my sin.
May I please Him and obey Him more and more.

My alcohol and drugs was family, friends and partners and although these things can be good, the Lord showed me that they will fail you. True comfort and safety can only come from him. Along with the passages that were read, I want to add this:
"A comforting promise in Scripture is that God will never leave those who are His. Hebrews 13:5 says, in part, “He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (NKJV). In a world that is constantly changing and where people are constantly leaving, whether in a family, relationship, or in death, God’s promise of never leaving is encouraging."

The world is divided into three parts- ”the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life." And under one or all of these three heads is idolatry manifested.
The lust of the flesh, that is appetite or intemperance is specifically defined as a god; for it is written: "For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things." Phil 3:18-19.
Temperance is self-control, not merely the control of one particular part of the man, self-control is one particular thing, it is the control itself, the very being, the whole man.
But this can never be done by the man himself; for the man himself is already subject to the control of "the god of this world," the evil one. This control was gained by the evil one, in the garden, and it was through appetite, by the very lust of the flesh.
And since man is thus the subject of "the god of this world," a slave, "sold under sin," it is impossible for him, of himself to clear himself of that power to which he surrendered himself.
Man's deliverance is by the power of God, the true God, the living God, the rightful God of man. God can set free every man, from all the power of "the god of this world;" and it is only in this way that any man can ever gain control of himself. And it is only thus that any man can attain to true self-control and true temperance.

Something I have found helpful, examining God's word as it relates to the situation, also I used the audio bible to make my background noise be the word of God. I also find other believers to be a very good blessing force of habit environmentally like the difference between an idle work shop or an active worship service. Fellowship can be awesome for accountability.

My pastor recently said the same thing, but differently. We are to face our temptations as Jesus did. Sin is fulfilling a legitimate need in an ungodly way. So, when Jesus was tempted in the desert, being hungry after a 40 day fast (legitimate need), He was tempted to meet that need through sin. Instead, He met the temptation with Scripture, did not sin, and later on fulfilled the same need without sinning. P.S. The only thing I'd change is to replace the Scud Missile with a Patriot missile.

    • @gigiis526
      @gigiis526 Рік тому

Jesus wasnt tempted like we are. We have the propensity to sin unless we walk in the Spirit. Jesus could not sin. He is fully God fully man. Temptation was put to Him. That is not the same as he was tempted.

    • @russs3001
      @russs3001 Рік тому

Please re-read my comment. I was not referring to the SOURCE of temptation, but the RESPONSE to temptation. Jesus was tempted as we were, but (to your point), the source was always from outside, not from a sinful human nature (as we are subjected to). We always need to use Scripture to support our doctrine. Heb 4:15- For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Blessings to you for thinking and commenting.

This has been such a blessing, I've taken the liberty to try transcribing Todd's portion: "Would you like to wield the weapon of worship in your life? Let me give you a few examples that will give you some practical help, so that in the moment when you’re being tempted, you are able to overcome and resist the temptation.
Scenario # 1. Like Robin, you feel the weight of life- you want comfort - you want release - you wanna escape and two voices are calling out to you: Jesus entreats you: “Hey, I’m your refuge, I am your comforter, I am your strong tower, run to me”, but in the meantime, like he’s sitting on the other shoulder, Jack Daniels shouts “just take one drink to cut the edge. I’ll make you feel good...worship me”. To whom you choose to go will reveal what you are worshiping, and if you pick Jack to be your strong tower, you’ve made a bottle of bourbon your effective Deity in that moment. Ask yourself WHO deserves my worship??? Ask it, talk to yourself, interrogate your self.
Scenario #2. Your day at work… it was a beating. The wife and the kids- they’re at the park and you find yourself alone in a quiet house and out of nowhere, porn whispers “you’ve had a really hard day. You deserve a little relief from stress so… fire up your computer and… let’s spend some time together.” And if you listen to the voice of porn petition you to partake in filth- then you’re worshiping dirty pixels- as you obey Porn’s pleadings. But if you stop… deny yourself.. pick up your cross, and worship Jesus- you WILL find the strength to overcome the temptation.
Scenario #3. …will make this even more clear: Your kids… they are having a banner kind of day, and not in a good way. Usually they’re naughty, but today they have… Whoo hoo!... taken disobedience to a whole ‘Nother level. You hear a chorus of voices vying for your worship. One voice says, “Hey, my name’s peace and quiet: if you want me; then Leave those brats and that LOUSY husband!!!”, but then there’s another voice that hearkens: “I’m an Amish romance novel… come… escape with me”. Oh wait!...it’s like a chorus; a third voice: “Find your comfort in me…my name is: cheesecake!” Now if you choose to obey one of those voices… Then that has become your God. Think about it: you’re worshiping a piece of food??? You’re worshiping an imaginary scenario? What a pathetic Deity- you’re running to something besides your Savior to find peace. In other words: you’re choosing to worship an idol and not the Lord.
So the next time you battle temptation, just ask yourself these simple questions: #1. To whom will I give my worship and obedience: This thing- this object- this trifle- this filth, OR… my Savior? And question #2. Who do I love more??? This idol… or Jesus? And then… FOLLOW- the one who has the most affection in your heart. #3. Who ALWAYS fulfills his promises to comfort, encourage, to heal, to help, to defend, to protect and deliver: Jesus… or this idol? Then turn your back to your temptation, and praise your God - I’m not kidding- actually do the worshiping. “Lord, you purchased me, I love you more than this sin; please accept my obedience as an act of worship to you". And if you want to go a step further; get ready for this: Sing worship to the Lord! It is REALLY hard to commit a big nasty when you’re singing “Amazing Grace”. Try it!!! If you would like more victory over your besetting sin -- it is time for you to worship."
Thank you and God bless you for your ministry Todd.

Celebrating all those brothers and sisters' gaining victory over their flesh.
Multiple teachings out there on gaining victory.
Besides demonic influences that are traditionally not recognized well in the Bible churches, it seems little teaching is clear on what reckoning ourselves dead with Christ looks like.
I say there is no good news unless we died with Yeshua. Probably the most ignored teaching in churches. The effective connection between Christ's body death and ours is just not taught, although core concept to the Gospel.
Worship, prayer, all of these things can help for a while.. but the power of the cross is mighty to save, heal and deliver. HE did it, not thee. Reckon it so!

Needed this. Struggled with porn for many years till Jesus saved me from that sin, and now a few years on, I am in that amazing, fun, exciting process of getting to know an amazing woman and I've realised that I am in real danger of making an idol of her, or turning back to porn if things don't work out.
I also just read from Isaiah 8 last night in my private Bible study.
" “You are not to say, ‘It is a conspiracy!’ In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy; And you are not to fear what they fear, and you shall not tremble. “It is Yahweh of hosts whom you should regard as holy. And He shall be your fear, And He shall be your cause of trembling. “Then He shall become a sanctuary; But to both the houses of Israel, a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over, And a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem. “And many will stumble over them; Then they will fall and be broken; They will even be snared and caught.” Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. And I will wait for Yahweh who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; and I will hope for Him. Behold, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from Yahweh of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion."
    Isaiah 8:12‭-‬18 LSB
It's a warning to those who hope in anyone other than Yahweh, and a sweet promise of sanctuary for those who do trust in Him.

My Pastor once said that sometimes we can make every thing a spiritual thing, which is true in a sense, however sometimes we need to give ourselves a break and look at it in a natural way.
You have a dependency, that's okay as we all have our shortcomings. Your wife, pastor and other people in your church may not be dealing with the same, but they all are dealing with something.
Remember Romans, that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Jesus isn't expecting you to be perfect, but you have to make room in your life to perfect you. A good carpenter loves a challenge 😅
You have no reason to be ashamed, the Bible makes provision for you in 1 Corinthians 10:13. Your struggle may differ from someone else's but it is by no means any worse.
Just take time with Jesus and make positive steps. We will only be perfected at his coming, just focus on walking with him till then.
Think of Abraham, David, Solomon, John the Baptist, Peter, Paul. All men who were flawed, had their moments and doubts, yet Christ was with all of them. You're not special in the best of ways, he chose you, washed you clean and justified you wholly and completely, never forget it.
You haven't let him down because you were never holding him up. He holds you up by his righteous right hand.

You have one in Heaven who is interceding for you. There is one who stands before you. One that sticks closer than a brother. There is one who has taken off his own colourful robe and has covered your filthy rags
The Holy Spirit is called "Our Advocate"
in the original Greek text the word used is Parakletos
      which means
one summoned, called to one's side, esp. called to one's aid
one who pleads another's cause before a judge, a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant, an advocate
one who pleads another's cause with one, an intercessor
of Christ in his exaltation at God's right hand, pleading with God the Father for the pardon of our sins
The Greek word for comfort (paraklesis) means “to come alongside and help.” Jesus is called our parakletos (advocate) in 1 John 2:1. The Holy Spirit is another advocate or comforter (John 14:16-17). Paul asserts that God is “the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3).
Wherefore I say unto you, *All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men* : but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
As it is said in Genesis 9 *BLESSED BE THE LORD GOD OF SHEM*
Why is God, The God of Shem?
      This is why
20And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. *23And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness* 24And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
^ Love covers a multitude of sins
I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. *For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness* , as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
^ HIS robe of Righteousness... not yours
_(For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more)
^ Like Shem, your loving and kind Father in heaven - does not see your nakedness - he does not look upon your sinful state but rather turns his face away (judgment) and covers you instead - THIS is amazing Grace
I pray that you receive forgiveness of sins in Jesus Name
“Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil... "be still and know that I am God"

You need to acknowledge you’re a sinner and repent. Believe in Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection. Then turn your life over to God and give Jesus the top place in your life. Find a BIBLE BASED church and begin immersing yourself in the Word of God. Watch people like John MacArthur and other godly men to learn more. Understand you will not be perfect and you will still face temptation, but you’ll be made a new creature. Pray, pray, pray 🙏

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
