I've been scrolling through looking for an easy drawstring bag tutorial, and this one is the best. Easy and very well explained. Kicking myself for wasting time looking at others. Laura you are one of the greats. Thank you.
Laura this is the best and easiest drawstring bag, I made 7 for laundry bags at Christmas as my family all go travelling, I even made my granddaughters friend one as they were going overseas together. I hadn't made myself one so I have just done that finally, I just use up large scraps. Thank you Laura.
Thank you for your creative sharing! I just made two of the storage bags. I have lots of fabric, and I plan to make more bags as "give aways" to folks who will enjoy using them. You are a great teacher!!
My sister just asked me for one. Great teaching and clear and slow enough for us to follow. A funny thing I used, to pull thru the string was a bracelet buddy (an alligator clip with a stem to hold a bracelet to put on yourself while it holds the clasp) Thanks for posting this.
I just made one of these bags and it's awesome! Your directions are clear, concise, and and beautifully articulated. I am a huge fan of your tutorials!
Laura, I have become obsessed with watching your videos! You explain so thoroughly! Thank you for all your hard work and the team that helps you! I love these bags and am going to be making them for Christmas gift bags and some little darling dolly and blanket bags for some little girls!
I've made a couple bags for travel dirty laundry based on your instructions and personalized them with embroidery. For the next one I will put handles at the top, for easy transporting. Thank you for the great video tutorial.
I have just made a young lady really really happy. I made this in a flamingo fabric reversible fabric in butterflies. Thank you so much for your awesome tutorials. Just to let you know I also made the large beach bag as well for my daughter. You are fantastic at instructions...
Laura, I've done many of your projects without fail and always appreciate your thorough and clear approach. However, this self drafted bag to fit a specific size was a total bust and a waste of 2 hrs. even though I thought I left enough room for seam allowance and boxing of corners. What I don't think the instructions include is a solid explanation for the fact that boxing will remove width from the bag. I did a 3/4" box and that was enough to render my bag useless for its intended purpose even with using 1/2" seams. Will search out another pattern that explains the calculations more clearly for boxing of corners to make a very specific sized bag. Just made myself a shoe bag rather than a gift bag to fit another homemade gift so just didn't finish my gift today but got a small shoe bag.
She did not note a specific size bag, she gave a general explanation on how to put a bag together based on a design she felt comfortable with that she wanted to share with those looking for something a little different. My mother sewed for a living many yrs. ago and always said wash your fabric, press it, measure, be sure of calculations even if it is a pattern. The best thing about sewing and place your ideas into it to incorporate a finish project to your liking. I am glad you were able to see what you felt needed to change and shared it with others. The best thing about sewing is relaxation, creating, learning, and having excitement about your finished project to share with others. This is why sewing will continue for years and always be in the hearts of men and women. Overall, there is so much you can do with this pattern.
Your tutorials are simply outstanding. Everything about your presentations are so classy, enjoyable, educational and fun. Please don't ever stop uploading!
I have only just taken up sewing , I’ve never done anything like this before , thank you for explaining things so simple ,I’m really grateful and am enjoying creating thing out of bits and bobs blessings to you
I’ve made two of these over the last week, the tutorial was perfect. I tested it out on a small size first (made a perfect sized bottle bag) then went on to make large laundry bags, with names added using my embroidery machine. I really enjoyed making them and will definitely be making more. Thank you so much for the great tutorial. One thing I realised though, that you have to be careful not to glue the two sides of the casing together when turning the seams back. I found that putting a thick pen into the opening worked really well to keep the two layers apart 👍😁
I love your technique. I tried other ways on how to make string bags but your technique is ghe best. I have made at least 10 string bags in the last 2 weeks. I have used your technique. It is just fantastic. I love the reversible idea.
I just love your how to make bags. You have the best instructions how are you talk through it on each step that you make is great because there are a lot of people that don’t understand when somebody’s just pointing it out would you go further you explain it out it makes it a whole lot better. I think you so much and I’m gonna be looking for some more of your how to make items. Thank You 🥰
I was looking for a tutorial for an easy drawstring bag. I saw several, but they seemed complicated and directions weren't straightforward. Then I found yours. Thanks so much for making it simple and easy to follow!
Thank you for a great video. I wanted to refresh my memory on how to make this kind of bag since it’s been awhile. Your directions were very clear and I liked that you added the piece at the end about sizing. The other thing I liked was the fact that you mitered your corners! I rarely see people doing this any more to their bags, but my grandmother would roll over in her grave if I didn’t miter and square up my corners for a neater look. Thank you 😊🙏
Thank you for instructions that cover all details of making these wonderful gift or storage bags. I have made over 30 of them so far.....in Christmas and other patterned fabrics.....so have some for other occasions of gifting. Thank you
I've done other bags but this one is the best and easiest! Thank you so much for showing the glue method! What a time saver! Makes it a much cleaner look!! Thanks again! Love your tutorials!!
Hi Laura, this is the easiest and best drawstring bag method. Just love it. There is no fussing about and as you mentioned one can play and create whatever (lol) for the outside fabric. Thanks.
Just made a bag following your tutorial. I LOVE it! Thank you so much for your clear instructions and explanations. I'm choosing the fabrics for my next bag right now! Thanks again.
I love how this is reversible. A great way to use my scrap fabrics. Thanks for another excellent video---your directions are so complete and easy to follow.
Hi Laura, I absolutely love this bag! All your tutorials are so clear and precise you make my sewing life so easy and enjoyable. Thank you Laura! Made this bag yesterday and will be making many many more!
Your things always have such nice finish! Beautiful, easy to make, lined, nicely finished, any size you need - this is the perfect drawstring bag tutorial! Thanks, Laura!
Thank you so much! This is simply wonderful! My kid's school uses many bags to help kids organize their stuff .... gym bag, Art bag, lunch mat bag, shoe bag .... you just name it! Now I can tone down the fancy designs/motifs by using them as linings for the bag :)
Thank you Laura this is just what I need to make for storing our lovely fresh from the garden Irish potatoes! While I'm about it I'm going to make some for other veg and fruits and a couple for laundry. God bless from vera in Northern Ireland
Hi Laura, This has to be the best tutorial I have seen for a drawstring bag. Some earlier ones I checked out were very unclear and the people explaining them talked way too fast and as a result I could not understand them. Plus, I love the Canadian accent which is way better than an American accent!
I happened to stumble across this tutorial by accident. I have been making masks, and I wanted to put them in a simple draw string back. This tutorial is excellent. I love the bag!
Absolutely love this bag. This looks to be the easiest one to make that I’ve seen. Yet the nicest one. Thanks for yet another great idea and well-explained!
Thankyou so much for your tutorial, I am making some much larger sizes of these for my daughters who are nurses and their workmates. They need to change at the hospital these days and need to encase their scrubs in a bag that can then be washed as well. Thanks again.
Omygosh! That is the best video ever, for putting together a drawstring bag. You show all the pieces that others don't show clearly and I get stumped... especially around the casing. I hope you will also do a drawstring backpack . Thanks again! Kathy in Vancoucver
I've watched quite a few tutorials recently for drawstring bags and almost didn't watch this one because I didn't think it would be significantly better than the others. I was wrong and am glad to have watched it. I think the instructions were clear and everything was clearly demonstrated. I like that the exterior fabric was pieced, showing how easy it is to use scraps to make a drawstring bag. I like that there isn't any interfacing. I like learning how to tack those seam allowances at the casing down. I saw another tutorial using Steam-a-Seam in that area, and another recommended using a zig-zag stitch to tack down the seam allowances. I like your suggesting for using fabric glue. Would Fabri-Tac work? I have a bottle though haven't used it yet so I don't know what it's like. Another thing, the boxed corners are usually kind of time consuming to line up the seams and use a ruler to mark the stitching line. Cutting out a box at the corners makes it look so much easier. I'm going to make a bag following your tutorial and see how it goes. Thank you.
So great!! And timely for summer picnics and beach/trips to park. Then there's Christmas gift time. Thank you, Laura, for adding another idea to my gift giving. Just the bag is great. . . with something baked is even sweeter.
Good and clear tutorial, thank you. I just made a lovely bag for my daughter’s marbles. It turned out so well that I’m now looking for an excuse to make another.
My first bag, and just in time for Christmas! Your tutorials are brilliantly done. Thank you, Laura! I look forward to following your projects in the future!
you do awesome easy to follow tutorials! you are without a doubt, my favourite Sewing tutor and have taught me many things/techniques! So thank you Laura, you're the best! (loved your sewing room tour video too!)
YAY! My daughter just bought me a sewing machine, so you know I'll have to make some bags now...😉 I love your videos; your tutorials are awesome! Thank you!!! 🥰
I think your amazing. Your videos are fabulous and very well articulated. I’d love to see this with a full size divider down the middle. A double shoe bag!
Laura, you are a wonderful teacher. I love learning from you. I wish I had teachers like you when I was a child. I like you how you explain what you are doing and why. Can you make any fat quarter patterns for men?
Fabulous method. Easy to follow. I have made a half dozen small bags mainly using my 12" quilting squares since you published this video although it took a couple of attempts to get a directional pattern the correct way up around the bag and to match stripes.
I couldn't understand what she said and the captioning didn't help. I Googled "Clover drawstring puller" and it's called a bodkin. Outstanding tutorial!!!
Best tutorial for a bag I have seen, just having a senior moment when using directional fabric! Do you have to cut the pieces in half and sew a bottom seam?
Thank you so much. I was looking for some bags for gifts. This will work great. It is nice to give something that has a wrapping that can be used again.
I’m a long time fan of your easy-to-follow unique creations. Please advise on what size fabric rectangles to start with for making this bag as a man’s shoe bag. I don’t have any shoes here to guess with (size 12 shoes).
This is a very well done tutorial. I do have one question. If you were making a large bag, large enough to store a rolling sewing machine bag with measurements 24 in wide by 18 in deep. How would you do the square bottom?
Suggestion: instead of cutting the corners, which looked a little wonky, then sew. I have done this successfully, first, squash fold each corner, pinning together the seam line, from the pointy tip measure up your desired distance and sew across. Cut off tip. Hint: roll a 1/4 inch seam to strengthen corners. Nice finished bag. Thanks Ms. L.
Rose Johnson I usually do your way and leave uncut for extra strength. End product is the same as Laura's way but corner's still there. If it's too bulky with heavier fabric and two sides, I cut it.

I'm a huge fan of your tutorials. Easy to understand for a German sewing fan.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! You are clear, directions are concise and the bag comes out EXACTLY as I imagined...! Yay YOU! I love watching you!

Glad it was helpful!
I was always taught to open seams then iron them flat so it doesn’t leave a bulk. My grandmother used to sew for sears and taught me a lot ❤️

Best tutorial for a bag I have seen, just having a senior moment when using directional fabric! Do you have to cut the pieces in half and sew a bottom seam?
