The N Vision 74 is a “rolling lab” that Hyundai says they are using to develop future Hyundai and Genesis hybrid technology. Hyundai says it will launch a car along these lines in the mid- to long-term. Hyundai N Performance will also introduce a battery-electric SUV and sports sedan soon in the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N.
As you see here, the N Vision 74 is NOT a static concept. It can be driven. It uses a 62.4kWh battery, dual rear motors and hydrogen fuel cell stack to produce over 500kW power and over 900Nm torque with RWD. The hydrogen system charges the battery. Range is over 600km and like a Hyundai Nexo or Toyota Mirai, the N Vision 74 can be refuelled in five minutes.

When is it going to be released?
Let's see the telemetrics! Unclear on the details on the FC / battery power integration. The logic doesn't quite make sense to me yet. The initial acceleration is from the FC? Strange since FCs usually have slower response. How are they integrated at low speed? Then FC kicks in again at peak power to deliver the extra 100kW? Still don't really see the benefits with all the added complexity. A deep dive (well as deep as you can go) would be awesome.
Put V8 or V10 or V12..is it possible?
It would be a CRIME for them not to put this into production as is. It's so iconic
Sadly, there are no plans to put the N Vision 74 into production-the drivable version was created mostly to help Hyundai learn more about what the company calls a "virtual differential"

I'd want it a tad more practical. Lose the low front end and let the body become the rear spoiler. Everything else is perfect.

then i want some one who buys one to take good care of it but sell it to me for under 20000 in 7 or so years.... they might have to make a lot of um for that level of depreseation but ....one can hope

I almost commented "Is this car real?" It is absolutely STUNNING. Whoever designed this car is a genius.
One of the coolest designs of the last decade imo... Retro futuristic...simply WOW.
I think the brightest future for electric car design would be if they go with a retro futuristic aesthetic. It makes for some really beautiful designs, and they feel familiar. They look more like a car than 90% of the other new all-electric cars on the market right now.

If you asked me 10 years ago whether I'd ever drive a Hyundai I would have laughed. Fast forward to present day and I now have a 2022 i30 N Sedan in the garage and a 2023 Palisade on order for the other half. If they continue down this path, I'm sure we'll be sticking with the brand long term 👍🏼

Well, a decade ago (in 2012) they've already being doing decent cars at highly competitive prices. The point is that they did choose the right point of engineering skills application and the direction of further development.

I sincerely hope this makes it to market - I don't even care if they have to downgrade it to a gasoline engine to make it financially viable for production, I just love the retro future styling.

The car is probably designed from the bottom up to be a electric/hydrogen car, probably wouldn't be easy to convert. Maybe it wouldn't be bad. What do I know.
I would rather it get converted to a gas/electric hybrid. It wouldn't be viable where I live if it was hydrogen.

I am amazed how they can package an 85Kw fuel cell, 4kg of H2 as well as all the batteries, inverters and cooling!!! OMG........it's the best-looking car I have seen in ages!!!!!!!!!
Its probably very heavy. Weight its the big factor when mixing technologies in small cars.

If the weight of the battery can be reduced by using hydrogen and can be charged while driving, this is the car of the future.

An 85 Kw fuel cell is going to weigh a lot ( looking up a known brand puts the fuel cell itself in the 250 kg area, needing an additional 100kg or so of cooling equipment according to them). But overall i'd agree. I'd guess that for a commuter type car, something like a 30-40Kw fuel cell would suffice to keep say a 10KwH battery topped off
@@n2o_spark You need about a 15-20kwh battery to have enough power to push such a heavy vehicle. Such a bigger battery + hydrogen fuel cell system would be bulky and heavy not mass efficient at all. The only true weight saving method is Over 4 miles per kwh efficient vehicle and energy dense battery pack. That means a 75kwh battery that weighs 800 lbs ~ 362kg in a specialized chassis that is also light weight. Two power trains is not going to achieve lightness.
FYI A Toyota Mirai with a 1.6kwh (one point six) lithium ion battery weighs 1.9 Tonnes. That is how amazingly weight efficient H2 Fuel Cell systems are.
Hydrogen only provides 20% of the power, the majority is from the battery.
I impressed by his pronuciation of 'HYUNDAI' NO ONE in non Korean youtuber pronounced it correctly but He has PERFECT pronunciation
Outside of all the bleeding edge tech, this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
I drive hydrogen Nexo, and I should admit the amount of engineering and innovation that Hyundai puts in their products is just insane.

My call is. I don't see a lot of similarity with the 76 Pony Hyundai concept car, that Hyundai claim (Giugiaro design). But a lot more similarity to the Lancia 037 Road Car Lancia co-designed with Pininfarina (Ferrari's greatest designer). I see more Pininfarina lines, that Giugiaro ones!!

It's certainly got a cyberpunk look to it. I know it's going to take awhile but I cannot wait for newer generation of battery technology, like the introduction of using materials like sulphur to reduce manufacturing costs. Great video.

Also, if you're talking about the game, they don't use gasoline, they use a biofuel, and that's only where the game is set. In Europe in that universe, they use electric. If you're talking about the genre, it depends on the book/movie/game, as they all have different settings. So, you're wrong on every conceivable level

Unbelievable mate, I didn’t think anyone outside of Hyundai would ever touch it.
They really need to get this to production. They keep improving on this concept, this could be a gamechanger for Hyundai. Making electric cars that still have the spirit of mechanical combustion engines will be a big, big deal, and other auto manufacturers would follow right afterwards.

With the demise of 68 years of the Motor Mag in Australia. And the seemingly monopoly of Wheels Mag and their views in Australia now. Chasing Cars I think has become the modern....MOTOR Mag! in youtube form! Motor Mag no doubt lost its way at the end. But it was a mag that offered an alternative view of motoring in Australia. And now in youtube land, Chasing Cars is doing just that for us aussies! Compared to other "cliched and copied' Australian youtube car review channels.

Scrapped Hyundai Coupe 74 which this is inspired was designed by the same person who designed Delorean. They share the same design DNA. Hence the resemblence.

It's redesigned version of hyundai's first mass production car, named pony in 1974.
Initial pony was designed by pininfarina, Italian expert design company.
All true. Pony and Delorean (and BMW M1) were all designed by Ital's Giorgetto Giugaro.

I thought Toyota had the best technology in hydrogen cars. However, after watching N Vision 74, I realized that Hyundai is the best in this field.
I want the N Vision 74 to be released as an electric car because other countries don't have hydrogen charging infrastructure as well as Japan and South Korea.

I guess one question is about charging/refuelling it? I know that it can work on electricity only but there are only 2 public Hydrogen refuelling stations in Australia atm. One is operated by Toyota in Altona, Victoria, the other is operated by ActewAGL in Canberra. Saying that they are in the process of putting more in between Queensland and Victoria (I am guessing other states later on) but who knows how long it will take, especially with COVID already delaying it. A home charger for electrical side or wider spread chargers will have to do until then. Or will they have something like a package with a charging unit and a hydrogen fuel cell home generator?
The thinking at Hyundai is that there will be many more public hydrogen refuellers by 2030. You’d fuel with hydrogen there, and either let the fuel cell charge the 63kwh battery, or charge the battery separately at home.
70s/80s style cars definitely need to make a comeback, the look of this car is amazing but I would still prefer a manual transmission and not that paddle bullshit
This is what ALL electric Cars should look like, brilliant, stunning. NOT THE CURRENT fleet of boring (with exception of kia and Hyundai) boxes.
I HAVE harped on to so many people that hydrogen fuel cells is where we should be heading, NOT digging up lithium form the ground which is worse than petrol.
It’s certainly no Prius or Model 3
I think you'd be disappointed to learn that the major source of hydrogen used in these hybrid electric vehicles is the waste byproduct of processing fossil fuels, if we come to establish a hydrogen future we will not solve the climate crisis currently afflicting us and just add to the dependency of fossil fuels even further.
Were we to establish a nuclear energy infrastructure (or hopefully fusion infrastructure) this wouldn't be an issue as that would make producing hydrogen through electrolysis far more economically viable and not harmful to the environment
it would be orders of magnitude worse for the environment to go down this path right now than to merely continue lithium extraction in the short term since the main qualms of lithium extraction is the unethical forced labor used and less so the environmental impact die to it being more of a localized ecological issue rather than the worsening of greenhouse gasses that'll affect the earth entirely
BOTH are bad, and there are proposed solutions for both, putting all our eggs in a single basket when it comes to energy dependency is a bad idea, ideally you'd like to have all manner of environmentally friendly energy options
I do apologize for how long this jumble of words ended up being, I'm equally passionate about the impact of our energy needs and we definitely need to stray away from the use of fossil fuels as a whole, hydrogen production is currently not carbon neutral yet.

I don't think hydrogren will be a big player on road cars but... this might be the future of motorsport.
Wide spread distribution network of H2 consumers is not even plausible. The hydrogen FC cars may work fine but that is pointless when the fuel supply does not exist.
The only plausible method solid or liquid material methods of delivering H2 like from Ammonia. But H2 is a physically implausible.
