I first watched you "How To: Properly Use and Understand Frequency Separation" and it lead me to this video. I've watched about 6 videos prior to this and they all used Gaussian Blur. So today I learned about median. Thank you for that. I also learned about the mixer brush from you in this video, something that none of the other videos talked about either. I was mainly just creating an empty brush layer between the lo and hi layers and would set the brush to 3x3 or 5x5 color sample and then flow at 2% and then just brush. I really look forward to using the mixer brush.
Good stuff my guy! I don't think there will ever be a 'perfect' FS video, but as you've said in the comments, it comes down to the retoucher and what works best for them, for their project needs, budget, etc.
    Keep up the content!

Thank you for explaining the reason of the way that you doing it. That helps a lot for me to process and understand why we are doing what we do. You did excellent job on teaching it step by step. I am really glad that you take the time making this video. it is so different than other video that I watched.

Great video, bro! Even though I teach retouching, I find that it's always good to see how others retouch as I feel I may learn something new. In this case, I have when it comes to retouching 'Products.'

Just keep in mind that those settings in apply image only works perfectly for 16 bit images. If you do this on a 8 bit image, you will see some shift in exposure and contrast.

Or just use the healing brush on a blank layer 🤔

For sure, but that's a totally different approach. Sometimes you can get away with just that. This method gives you more control. And the healing brush can leave artifacts because it heals both color and texture together. For commercial images that will be printed large, I want to avoid that.

Steve Walter Photo your image won’t ever be the same when you use FS. Split then check it with the difference mode

@@haies09 Obviously everyone should retouch in a way that works best for them - depending upon their time, budget and project. This method allows me to keep my image the same after splitting. If you want, the linked video in the description I go over how I can do that. When I split and use difference mode the image is completely black. What were your results?

@@SteveWalterPhoto did you add an levels adjustment and check? Also your first statement depending on what blur radius you use color information can get into the high frequency also when using FS. Although fair enough if it works for you great, the type of retouching I do FS is a no no

@@haies09 can you elaborate on what other method you use?
