What a beautiful, endearing woman. I truly believe that Ruby has no idea how much her classic recordings have meant to so many people. Amazingly, the original recordings still sound fresh to this day.
One of the greatest, yet most underated groups in music history !!! Every song they made was just AWESOME and many artists , such as THE CARPENTERS, THE MARVELETTES, EDDIE HOLMAN , and numerous others have covered the songs of RUBY and the ROMANTICS !!!
I heard Ruby and the Romantics since I was born and to today I can listen to them and remember my childhood! There were so much good time and happy memories! Thank you Ruby and to all the Romantics! Your music will live on forever in my family with my kids and theirs, since I always play your music at our gatherings and holidays! Hawaii loves you!
Since I was a teenager, I have loved her song-- Our Day Will Come. Some songs never get old. And that's one of them. Back then, songs had meaning to them.
I've just discovered Ruby and the Romantics...never too late listening to really good music. People so talented and Ruby being so down to earth, authentic and charming!! The sound of her voice and how she takes it on as lead vocalist is just superb. The quality of the recordings is amazing, specially by listening on the headphones!
Great interview of such a wonderful artist! God Bless you Ruby and thank you for one of my all time favorite tunes. And thank you Tom Meros for bringing Rubys' and all of these artists' stories to light, Keep up the good work!!
I was 13 when this came out and it was something special as were Ruby & The Romantics. They had several great hits from early 1963 through 1964 and then sadly they were gone from the airwaves.
Love ya, Ruby! Love ya, Tom! Your classic hit "Our Day Will Come" will live on and on. I'm from Pittsburgh. PA. In December 1962, when this song was released, I was 13 and I had just visited NYC for the first time on a 3-day field trip with my HS classmates. Your song reverberates with the ambience of a wonderful R&B era in pop music. You are unforgettable!
for the people who says , there's no such thing as perfection , our day will come , proves you wrong , can you imagine , even the producer did not believe his ears , thank you TOM ,for this fascinating series .
I love you Ruby. This is such a wonderful story. You made me smile again. You are a beautiful vocalist. Your song is on my playlist. You made this song. It's BEAUTIFUL and so are YOU! Thank you so very much for posting this.
I was 16 and in love for the first time and this was our song. I'll never forget how many memories this song brings to mind. If you missed the 60s you missed the best decade of the 20th century.
I live in New Zealand and remember when Our Day Will Come was on the charts. I fell in love with your voice then Ruby and you have been my favourite female singer of all time since. You evoke so much emotion with your pure and smooth voice. I play your music still regularly. Thankyou for giving us this gift.
Amazing and a phenomenal lady She had such a pure beautiful sound and so smooth. They were one of my favorite groups back in the day. It's such a joy to see her again after 50 yrs of more..This is wonderful to hear of how her group came to be. God bless her.
The most beautiful voice in popular music. Ruby Nash Garnett so humble, so talented... her greatest hits album is one I would save from a fire. Essential!
I find it so interesting that on occasions, unplanned innocence results in an event that touch almost everybody on earth in their own way . This song by Ruby and the group will be loved and played 1000 years from now ., what an inspiring voice for a song that gives so much hope to hundred of millions . Thank you ruby !
Thanks Ruby for the great music! This is still a favorite song. My mother use to sing this when I was a child. It brings back great memories of my mother and my childhood.
I had chance to see them at the Fox theater along Temptations , B E King, The Ronnett s, Tom Jones was the closing act not headliner. If I recall quite a few performers. I had a booklet for the Show . I love the so much 💙 I sing that arrangement in my show. I come from a family of singers and we love to harmonize. I enjoyed Her and this interview. Thanks & Blessings
I love Ruby and The Romantics! I still believe that their best record was not "Our Day Will Come" but "Young Wings Can Fly"! Give a listen to it and see if you like it!
This lady is very special. A phenomenon! To look at her in this interview is just so DAMN inspiring!!!! Seeing an African-American lady whose special light shined so brightly like Ms. Garnett's does in this interview (and surely outside of it as well), in such an overtly racist time that she lived in is just inspiring to me. It gives me hope to continue on in this life of crime. She knew she was great; like we all did!!!! Thanks for uploading this video!!!
Racism had nothing to do with Ruby Nash. She had a beautiful voice. She had no edge like Aretha. I would argue that her voice was perfectly suited to the standards that she sang so well. I wish people would stop infusing music history with their pop version of race relations which tells us nothing about the MUSIC. C'MON Man!!!!!!!!
Racism existed then and it exists today , all of the Great Black Singers endured countless Racist biased and inferior treatment . Look at the Interviewer, always copying our Music stealing Rights from most of the Black Great Icons ! Check oit the History of Black Singers and Musicians then talk ! Great to see Ruby prospered regardless. Enjoyed seeing her . Thanks for the Video footage .
@@acquanellaogbemudia9930 What the hell are you talking about, the interviewer is stealing music? He is giving an incredibly talented lady a chance to present her history and tell her story, and showing an appreciation of her and her talent. He is respectful and knowledgeable. How many black interviewers are out there presenting these great performers or showing an appreciation for their history? Virtually none. You're talking out your ass.
@@acquanellaogbemudia9930 Sadly this is true. No matter how much some want to deny it it's clear that racism is alive now as it's always been. And it doesn't look as if it's going away anytime soon, barring some global catastrophe. But perseverance is what God gave us in droves, and one can see that easily in Ruby Nash Garrett. And it is very inspiring.
She really does have a singing voice. She has a beautiful voice. On youtube there's a greatest hits upload at the moment. The romantics had a very tight harmony. Impeccable! No respect given and no recognition. Such a shame.
Ruby .... Thank You so much for your wonderful voice! "When you are Young and in love" was totally incredible! Thank You so very much for your heart felt wonderful voice! You are, and always will be, The Best of the Best!!!!!!!!!! Glen
Great interview. Looking good gal, love ya. I heard your song for the first time this year on the 580 Am out of Windsor. I am in Detroit. Wonderful. I stopped work just to hear your sweet voice. Thank you.
Nice to learn the history of my favorite groups. Especially in a live setting. I think I own all of R&R recordings. It is a treasured part of my collection. Hey Ruby...Thanks for letting your guard down and giving us your personal side of the group which is in a word is "Priceless". Thank You. Jerry in Poway California.
I love Ruby & The Romantics. People always talk about the impact of "Our Day Will Come," but no one mentions "Stranger On The Shore," "Hey There Lonely Boy," "Heartaches," and "Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore." Karen Carpenter covered that song. I hope they are sitting on a lifetime supply of royalties 🙏🏾💖
That song, "Our Day Will Come" that version, is the perfect blend of melancholy and glee. It's the most beautiful musical rendition of a daydream I've ever heard. Everyone from Ruby, the GOAT to the legendary Gary Chester on drums. Perfect. Every single musician laid it down.
I remember meeting Ruby Nash in 2008 at The Induction Ceremony for The Vocal Group Hall Of Fame. We were inducted into The Hall Of Fame. I was one of the "Founding" Members of The "Original" Duprees. We walked around together, arm in arm, backstage at The Chevrolet Center in Youngstown, Ohio. It was as though we were old friends. She was a charming, talented, lady. At the time she was no longer singing, I encouraged her to get back into the business again. We both recorded hit records but getting to meet Ruby always made me feel special.
Whoa Ruby I was raised up on your voice, I remember those days when I was grounding up in Jamaican my mom's use to sing ,out say will come, omg that voice. I love you mis Ruby 💛😉
I have just been overdosing on Ruby and the Romantics. Fantastic music. It's a real mystery how they stayed under the radar whilst lesser groups thrived.
In the interview, Ruby talks about listening to Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald and Cab Calloway's Orchestra on the radio; the same singers her mom enjoyed. It is unfortunate to consider her a doo wop singer or a Motown singer, her roots are further back in the American songbook. This may explain why her tone did not fit with the emerging 60's sound and later.
They weren't under the radar! They were top-ten, beloved by every teen and even our parents (!) I knew in the LA area. They were at the top of the chart! Played at least once an hour for months upon months on all the radio stations. Hardly "under the radar" my friend!
Just by looking at her, her posture, the sadness in her voice, the bare white walls (no family photos) the worn down couch cushions, leads you to assume that the record company royally screwed her over financially. The infamous shady reality of record labels.
What a beautiful, endearing woman. I truly believe that Ruby has no idea how much her classic recordings have meant to so many people. Amazingly, the original recordings still sound fresh to this day.
Ruby your song Our Day Will Come was fantastic and still is.
Awesome
Forever
Such a beautiful song that almost nobody else recorded . Why ? Because nobody could do it better . It is a rare recording that is absolutely perfect.

All I can say is WOW ! They should be on "Unsung". This song reminds me so much of my
uncle and aunt first getting together when I was a kid.

This was a number one record for Ruby and The Romantics from 1963. I played the hell out of this record over the air waves. What a great record.
Glad to see the lady singer who made this song popular in 1963. My favorite oldie of all time!
Thank-You Ruby for sharing your God given gift.

Same thing with me, but my girl and I were 19 years old (1975).
Buddy Miles inspired the rhythm for Our Day Will Come. Wow. Thanks.
That song will never grow old. I was so fortunate to meet group member Mr Roberts. He was a lovely man. God bless Ms Ruby. What a great interview.
Her shyness is precious.

What a remarkable woman and story!
Thank you Ruby. I have fond memories of this song. It is one of the few time I get to still hear my stepfather Roy Glover . Thanks for the memories.
I love the title of the song Our Day Will Come. It gives you hope that one day your day will come and you will have everything.

Such a lovely lady with a beautiful voice😍
Ruby has no idea how great she really is and she is so unassuming which makes her even greater.
One of the most gorgeous songs human beings have ever created!
Thanks Ruby for the great music! This is still a favorite song. My mother use to sing this when I was a child. It brings back great memories of my mother and my childhood.
Love Ruby...real sweet soulful voice!
This is great history and interview. Her voice is amazing!!!! I'm ashamed I didn't know about Ruby and the Romantics sooner than today. New fan!!

beautiful lady and timeless song.
She's just an incredible and for real lady. What a great interview!
A classic like that in only one take? Simply amazing. What an awesome talent.

Ruby i just love this tune our day will come Five stars
First heard this song in 1963, didn’t buy it because you can’t buy them all but down the years it’s always had a special place in my heart,
So good to see her alive and well! Amazing talent.
What an interesting story of hers and very intelligent about her music.... Wow! I wish my grandma was still living so i could share this with her....
For her to be shy back then she sure made a good name for herself. I remember this song when I was a kid and I still like it a lot.

Ruby, you were great on the doo wop shows. Loved working with you.

Ruby is 87 now. Time flys.
"When you're Young and In Love" is their best song, followed by "Our Day Will Come" and"Our Summer Love" in my opinion.
Her version is the best. It is her song!
Is this Ruby’s real name? Wasn’t it the coolest song though? Kids my age didn’t analyse the individual singers, we just felt the magic.
Ruby & The Romantics recorded 3 great sides in the early 70s which were never released.
