Good list! LaPucelle was my first Nippon Ichi game. Great characters and interesting systems, if a bit repetitive at times. Been enjoying revisiting it with the recent Prinny Presents releases.
Great varied list here for sure, and so glad to see Robotech Battlecry get some recognition! One of my favorite license-based games for the 6th gen! I never heard of Endgame before but may need to look into that. Also, I need to still play Urban Chaos. Awesome video man!
The PS2 and Xbox were some of the best years of my life. I had moved out shortly after they launched so I spent so many hours gaming with no rules but the ones I set. It's amazing how many good games I missed!
I just recently got a Retrotink 5x and a HD Retrovision cables for the Ps2. I’m totally digging some games 🤣 Currently playing through Pandora Tomorrow
Oh man, Makai Kingdom! As someone who fell in love with Disgaea and La Pucelle: Tactics I got hooked on NIS games and made me hunt down all the PS1 and PS2 NIS games I could find. ---- La Pucelle brought up as well? I am being spoiled this video!
Great episode, a good handful of titles I had not heard of but two of my favorites were listed and it's awesome to see them get some attention. Robotech and Seek and Destroy were two games I played to death as a kid as I got them for cheap and really was captivated by them coming from the SNES to that generation of games. Good stuff man and I hope you had a good new year!
Urban Chaos was a blast in my childhood. It had Time Crisis vibe that just felt good. Bruh, Atelier Iris 3 was what even made me a Atelier fan and couple years ago I started playing the whole franchise and I'm finally at Ryza 2 now (and I literally played like 15 atelier games apart from Nelke since it's just a random non-alchemist girl managing all alchemists in the Atelier franchise which makes no sense since atelier games aren't connected to each other for the most part) I wonder if Yu-Gi-Oh Capsule Monsters on PS2 is also a game that no one talks about. I had so much fun with that one.
Oh man I was literally at my local game store earlier and saw seek and destroy for a few dollars. The cover made it seem like one of those really cheap like basic military shooters so I didn't think twice about it. If I knew it was more like that I would have grabbed it. Robotech Battle Cry was a big game for me and my brothers as kids. I still enjoy it a lot. Mainly play it on original xbox. The ps2 versions I bought had this glitch where the cutscenes would skip and the dialogue would end up mixing into the gameplay somehow and would mess up the audio and like once objectives were complete it wouldn't work. The xbox version never had that problem for me at least.
Seek and Destroy is awesome. I never made the connection to Armored Core before, but its a good comparison. It's like a really simplified Armored Core with towns and a world map.
Makai Kingdom was one of my favourite PS2 games. Phantom Brave was good too (and IMO, has the best music in NIS's catalogue that I've experienced). Both were ported to PC, and Phantom Brave has had a variety of ports over the years. I never got into La Pucelle Tactics though. My first NIS game was Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and the gameplay of LPT just didn't appeal as much. I had no idea that Kenichi had a game, though a lot of anime with at least some success get tie-in games, and it makes sense that it would be fighting game because of course. I suppose it was just the fact that I never looked into the possibility, and my disinterest in fighting games explains why I never happened upon it.
Can confirm Seek and Destroy is fun! I remember hearing that it was part of the Penny Arcade series and this was the only entry to get a Western release.
I'm a huge Kenichi fan and always wanted the game but I've never gotten this good of a look at it before I had no idea it was that visually impressive for an obscure ps2 game thank you!
Glad to see Atelier Iris 3 being mentioned! I’d found it in the discount bin and it turned out to be such a hidden gem! The visuals still hold up to this day, and the music is spectacular!
Pleased to see Seek and Destroy on the list. I purchased and played through it this year on my PS3, (it's a PS2 classic on ths PAL PSN stores). Highly recommended for fans of Armored Core.
La Pucelle Tactics looks really good. I'll give it a shot. First time I've heard of Blood Plus One Night Kiss and the first thing that popped into my head was "hey, this game looks a lot like Killer 7." I just found out that Grasshopper developed it so now I have to get it. Thanks!
Oh, wow. Urban Chaos looks gorgeous on emulator. I remember PS2 could hardly manage the game with such detail and all the things happening on the screen.
Can you guys please please do a game called Graffiti Kingdom? I remember renting it from blockbuster as a kid and loving how unique it was. You build your own character like spore and can capture monsters to play as like pokemon!
7:37 came for the ken'ichi fighting games and went "da fucc?" for The blood Plus game. Like" oh, there was a game about that vampire anime that used to air on Toonami... low fidelity, weird looking 3d anime, okay.... Wait that's not Blood Plus that's looking like No More Heroes... Wait Suda made this one!"
I remember really wanting to play Makai Kingdom when I was younger, though I never got the chance. La Pucelle Tactics I only know about from the old OPM demo discs.
I should be proud I guess that I own Seek and Destroy and Robotech Battlecry on the PS2. I also own a few other obscure games like Metal Saga, and Steambot Chronicles, though those games are talked about far more often even if hidden gems on the console that came into the public eye years after the PS2 stopped being relevant. Bought all these before the PS3 was ever released. xD
