I don’t normally comment on videos, but I have to say, this deserves a comment. You’ve explained answers a lot better than teachers I’ve come across. Keep doing what your doing!
never rcommented before but thanks simon htt this video was great its really helping me understand maths more by watching how to break down questions wondering if planning to do moe open awards past papers as im preparing to sit my exam in 12 weeks😬
your explanations are easy to follow, thank you. the problem i have is that the tests are online which make it difficult to show all the working as its a race against time to complete the exam within the given time, are there any exam centres where they still use physical paper instead of online?
Hi, you definitely can still do physical papers, it's just finding the centres. I would expect the more traditional adult education colleges are more likely. Otherwise you might be able to find out from the exam boards (e.g. Pearson Edexcel) which centres are using their paper exams.
Hello, Simon. Thank you so much for teachings us Functional Skills Maths Level 2 past paper questions. I just wanted to say for question 15, the way you explained it, I really understood and I retook that paper as a practised and marked it after awards with the mark scheme. It turns out the mark scheme says it is £2.50 instead of £3.
Hi Simon Thank you so much for your videos! They are so helpful. Could I make a suggestion? Would it be possible to also create content on specific themes like long division practice, multiplication practice, Fractions, decimal notations..etc….. you have an amazing teaching style, very clear and succinct. I think it would be so helpful.
Hi Abigail, thanks for your comments. I do have some videos available on the 'Maths foundations topic summaries' playlist but they could probably be improved or concentrate on more specific topics. I'll see what I can do...
What I've heard from others doing the exam online is that most is ok but the graphs can be more difficult. So do try these but don't spend too much time if you're finding it tricky. Best of luck!
Glad you like the videos. I think this is the only Open Award practice paper I've found for L2, do let me know if you've found others, but I do have papers from other exam boards, Edexcel, C&G, NCFE, just look under playlists on my channel.
@Simon HHT can you please do Highfields papers level 2, I don't know why but they are just harder and I struggling to understand them. Please help. Thank you
There's a few Edexcel papers that have been released so I'm doing those first as it tends to be a more popular exam board. But will hopefully get round to the Highfield ones afterwards. You might want to try my NCFE videos, as they can be more challenging than some of the other exam boards.
@@SimonHTT thank you so much, Simon, I have my level 2 exam on 7th Jan with Highfields and it would be very helpful. I watched other tutor UA-camrs but you explain so well.
@@LieneHaze Not sure if you'll have to time to look at it before your exam on Saturday but I'm in the process of uploading a Highfield L2 video. Should be live by the morning (6 Jan).
I don't think so, but I did tidy them up a couple of months ago. I think some Highfield exam papers were in with them and are now in a separate folder. I've also separated them by level which might make it look like there are fewer now. If you go to the home screen of my channel you should be able to find all the videos by exam board and level.
It won't let me reply to your most recent comment so replying here instead. The height of the lorry is 4.2m, so anything more than that for the height of the bridge means it will be able to pass underneath with no problems.
68 is given in the question, just under the table. So if we want the change in the median we need the difference between what the median was in 2018 (64.9) and what it is in 2021 (68).
Yes, it's still functional skills maths. But each exam board has its own format and style of the exam papers. Generally speaking, the topics included are the same.
@@SimonHTT I had a question which I struggled with it was A journey traveled at 40mph takes 24 mins The council plan to reduce the speed limit to 30mph how long will the journey take traveled at 30mph I struggled with this as I’ve only dealt with distance speed questions
@@ethancasey6568 Let's answer this in 2 steps: 1. Work out how far the journey is, 24/60 x 40 = 16 miles 2. How long would it take to travel 16 miles at 30 mph? 16/30 x 60 = 32 minutes SENSE CHECK, the speed has been reduced so it should take longer to do the same journey. You could treat this as an inverse proportion question instead but I think that's more complicated.
Yes those big questions can be daunting. So don't think of it as a big question, think of it as many small questions. If we can split them up into smaller chunks, like working out the price per litre for each one separately, it should make it feel more manageable. You can always look at the L1 papers to concentrate on the style and approach of answering these questions and then come back to L2 when you're feeling more confident.
Surly question 8 is wrong or is it me? It take 7hours for 3 people to paint a shape on a wall can’t be 21 hours or it would state it took 3 people 21 hours to paint how long would it take 4 confused much. 7 painters would be 2.33 hours each total 7 hours
The first thing to note on this question is that for the 7 hours, all 3 people are working. The first person works for 7 hours, the second person works for 7 hours and the third person works for 7 hours. So if 1 person was to do all the work by themselves they would need to work for 7+7+7=21 hours. However, now there are 4 people to do the work. The original 3 plus the extra person. So we divide 21 by 4 (= 5.25 hours), to get the time each person would be working for and because they're all working at the same time that is also the total time to paint the shape.
