Plastic didn’t even exist until 1907, yet it’s so hard to imagine a world without plastic. I hope governments and corporations make it easier to live a plastic-free lifestyle.
Maya really??? I personally would not be willing to throw out all of my plastic items on a whim and fill the local garbage tip up with it... she has thrown things away and now thinks she is wonderful and all the time her unused plastic items are not decomposing in the local tip...how is she someone to want to be like... please take note as you view the video again at how much plastic is actually in her home, the bits she allowed us to see... we can all make our own soaps etc (a lot of us do), we can grow our own (a lot of us do) but most of us do not purge our home of perfectly good plastic items we have so we can pat ourselves on the back and tell ourselves how good we are. Most of us use the plastic items until they are no longer useful and try to find another purpose for them rather than throw them into the landfill. if the item is not able to be used again we try to recycle and replace only when needed with more natural items... this video gives you the impression she went through the house and cleared it out of all the kids plastic things..she certainly didnt throw out her stuff you can see it in the video....
@@meheretoday6968 she didn't actually say that's she'd gotten rid of her plastic items though? She just stopped buying mainly food wrapped in plastic. She is trying to eliminate single use plastic. Plastic can and still is very useful for some things, but we should take care of it and not throw it into landfill.
Slowly eliminating plastic from our lives is not gong to harm us, not doing so will kill us. It's not about class, money, etc, but about enjoying other things that are free beautiful and sustainable. It can be done.
For the people who seem to be getting stuck on the chocolate bar comment I'm pretty sure she just meant chocolate wrapped in plastic. I don't think it means her kid wont ever get chocolate since you can buy them loose and put them glass jars or paper bags.
I'd love to do this, but it seems like shopping to find replacements takes forever and I have limited free time after work. Companies really need to lead the way and make plastic-free convenient.
If you have the time to be a negativity troll, then you have the time to reduce your plastic packaging consumption as she and her son are doing helping the planet. It actually costs less to eat unprocessed natural food and it is better for your health... so if you have less income there's another advantage. Our family of 5 lives plastic free to a large extent the same as these people do, trying to be responsible. Why not be part of the solution rather than being part of the massive environmental problem with unnecessary plastic use ?
She's found a great alternative. But the children's toys can't all be something other than plastic. Toys aren't thrown away on a daily basis, like milk bottles. Also chocolate bars, packs of cooked meat. We can't completely get plastic out of our homes.
James Vincent we can use alternative for wrapping meat, we could use card board box, coated in wax which will keep it fresh, Iceland is planning to have no plastic by 2020 I think that’s the write year
There is definitely a point, the amount of plastic even one person makes in a year is collosal. Also it's great that she is teaching her son to be conscious about these issues - we should be educating the next generation so they can make better choices than we did.
She is no better than any off the rest of us. She's having someone bring food to her in a car or truck or whatever which uses oil which is basically plastic.. I'm pretty sure this woman wears shoes as well..
Props to her for eliminating plastics from packaging, but personally I wouldn't deny my kids plastics toys or chocolate bars. I'd give it to them, but I would discuss with them the plastic involved in making the chocolate bar and the toy, maybe sit them down to watch "Blue Planet" to show them why we try and minimise our plastic usage Still, it really does show it's not hard to reduce plastic in our lives to a bare minimum, it just takes a cultural shift. I for one am hoping to sign up for a milkman delivery when I'm finally gainfully employed after graduation
God you’d be a great parent 😂 Here’s your toy or chocolate bar young child.. But just know that by you consuming this product the environment is being destroyed (it’s actually not, sustainable farming has been around for a long time) and many species will die because of people like you. What we need to do is implement this fantasy world where plastics will be replaced by some magical fairy product that will be just as easy and cheap to produce :)
@@killbill-tf9wu goodness you are intelligent 😂. (That was sarcasm in case it went over your head). There are already alternatives to plastic and it just takes a change in mindset. Education starts at home and if children pick up good habits in the house they will grow up to be considerate and care about the planet
The people criticizing you are no doubt the same people who would have no problem saying yes to a child who wants to mutilate their body because they believe in the fantasy of being able to change your gender. God forbid a child gets the chocolate bar they want.
She helping to save the planet by getting rid of plastic while at the same she has a fridge door full of milk? Unless thats some kind of plant milk then she really is clueless in this day and age. Cows milk and dairy in general is having an enormous negative impact on the environment and if she doesn't know that then she should watch Cowspiracy on Netflix.
You are such an inspiration. Thanks for showing us this is possible.❤ The other day I was eating a pack of skittles and I thought, “Damn, if this ends up in the ocean, some fish is probably going to choke on it.” I mean think of it: Bright red packaging floating around in the water like a small fish. 🐠
I know she’s cutting out plastic in her household (in which is good), but couldn’t she just let her son play with plastic toys until he grows out of them and then donate them to a second hand store? It isn’t that hard. Plus some of her tech has plastic.
She does look to be quite well off but not everyone who lives in London is rich - there are many (like me) who earn below average wages and still have to pay 4 x the rent of other parts of the country. You can start by making small changes like just buying a glass jar or can of something rather than a plastic container. Or buy vegetables without plastic - I pay less for onions and carrots by buying them that way and there is less waste. You don't have to spend a ton of money and small changes add up quickly.
Phon Ecover That‘s bull! I earn way less than the average joe and I have been low waste for years! It benefits me greatly! Reusable bottles filled with tapwater for example are much cheaper than buying water in plastic bottles! Same with coffee! Make your coffee at home, fill it in your reusable to-go-cup and take it with you! Shopping totes, bamboo cutlery...everything you can reuse comes cheaper in the end! You even get discounts for bringing your own cup!
Im not as poor as i have been, i do ok, and Ive reduced my plastic from 84 pieces per week to 15 per week. It made it fun to see where the worst bits were and we just dont buy those anymore. They were expensive foods anyway. Its really worth a go, even just reducing, as I certainly wouldn’t say I’m zero waste.
Also you can buy a lot of things second hand, thus not contributing to more plastic production. But I do think that we need corporations and governments to change, not only individuals.
No plastic toys for the kids but I guarantee mommie has a plastic tv (seen in the video), computer, smartphone. She also didn't seem to mind boasting about her "plastic-free" lifestyle in front of a plastic camera either.

It’s a material but that’s similar to computers not existing before the 60’s yet nowadays literally everything uses a computer.
I appreciate you but it's very hard.
Hardly a typical Hackney resident. She obviously has the disposable income to ‘avoid’ plastic in all forms.
Oh shut it
We should salute her
why she still uses plastic bags... she is preaching what she doesnt practice

Right
Bigger bars of chocolate often come wrapped in paper and foil actually and you can take your container to the butchers to fill up.
Lego for example has a very long lifespan

The kids don't eat or throw away their toys every single day either. What a hypocrite.
Mr. White I’m sure she throws away far more toys than TV’s.... she does look middle class. But i doubt her lifestyle is that exquisite
hezy, she could always donate toys
+HezyTech TVs use a lot of plastic, easily enough for several toys. Plus they're full of many other toxic elements.
Plastic no good
Unless everyone has plastic free, unless all supermarkets and corner shops go plastic free, then not much point.
Jack Sugden I wouldn't say that. Every little helps.
If we buy more plastic free supermarkets will meet the demand. It's all about consumer demand.

"Do what I say, not what I do"
Might have to get rid of that fusebox then...
