One of my students let me borrow his gorgeous looking Gretsch 2622T Streamliner guitar to have a jam on & review! This thing not only looks great but sounds great too, and I'm really digging the Bigsby Trem system.
Hope you enjoy the video & subscribe to see more!

Stunning. I have $6500 guitars. This thing plays as good. You don't need to spend thousands. Pickups are 95% of tone. Not maple or rosewood. A myth. Mod these pickups. Easy and free. Go on Gretch forum. Pull 6 poles out of the neck Pickup and it's brightens up. Lube the nut and Bixby. Now it's a home run
Wood makes a serious difference in acoustic guitars. It does make a difference in electric but not all the difference like it does with an acoustic. The averge player isn't going to notice it unless the guitar is unplugged. Some electric guitars do sound louder than others because they are. This varies by instrument though and not by design. Luck of the draw. The guitar will be a bit louder thru the amp if it is louder unplugged simply because the pick up has more input source if that makes sense to you. Pick ups are like microphones. The louder the vocalist projects means that fader will be lower on the console than another vocal microphone on the stage that has a soft vocalist singing into it. I'm highly impressed with this guitar at the price of 600 bucks. I wish they made a 339 sized one.
I'm blown away at how it handles the distortion.... I'm getting a 2622 and looking forward to it.
Clean playing and showing this guitar off very organically! You've basically sold me on it, probably based on your overall enjoyment of it. Thanks for inspiring me during this viral pandemic.
Thanks for the commentary and playing. A beautiful guitar than can produce beautiful sounds. All the best.
Man, the clean of this bridge pickup is so good!
Wow what a Sound , cristal clear and warm tones ... Perfect , for some Beautiful moments , with this Guitar a Streamliner from Gretsch ! And the price is Okay .A very good Review ,Thanks .
Thanks for watching! It’s a really great sounding (& looking) guitar 🤟
@@RobGalley question;
How do you think this guitar would handle C Standard tuning?
(I’m thinking of one specifically for C standard.)
I have this guitar. Run the strings over the bigsby roller near the bridge. This takes a lot of down pressure away from the bridge and cures all tuning stability
or do what i did to mine. i put on a roller bridge. best mod on mine
Roller bridges are a really cheap upgrade!👍🏻
Jan 23, 2020....Before we knew just how crazy this year was going to be.....
Thanks for the review. Just ordered one so looking at vids until it arrives.
How are you getting on with it?
@@boblonghurst5111 I absolutely LOVE it. I play many genres of music. Indie rock, dream pop, jazz, groove, reggae, worship stuff and rock. Ive had it almost literally 2 years and I am still in love with it. Some of the parts do feel a little flimsy like the pick guard and the Bigsby doesnt feel super sturdy on the body but nothing a few modifications can't fix. Mine is in imperial wood finish. But i am seeing more and more of these being used. I love how slim the body is.
I'm thinking about picking up this guitar as my first hollow body. Sounds fantastic to my ears!
Finally some who understands the Gretsch tones awesome job
Just got that same guitar. Love it
Thank you Rob for what in my opinion is the best all round demo of a guitar, I've watched on youTube. TBH I'm lusting after one of these....ha ha, which made your appraisal all the more important. Your minus points were valid and very interesting. Especially about the lack of access to the upper frets. Whenever I watch an expert like yourself play a selection of chords and riffs, I wonder if they are from guitar solos or, are they an interpretation of Scales etc that you've adapted, or maybe teach? Being self taught I'm always in awe of Players like yourself who can make a guitar "Sing-out".
Sounded sweet great playing too
Thanks Steve, I enjoyed this guitar!
Sweet sound so articulate
Love the color, nice playing.
Sounds really nice, great tone range.
i have one of those guitar still havent try it on an amp cuz my old amp caught on fire on one of my live i did as well destroyed one of my pickup on a guitar i build
Hello. Can you play metal with this guitar? I love how it looks but I play metal. Is it possible?
That sounds awesome man!
It sure does! I want one 😂
Hi . Love your point of view. Great playing. One thing I noticed. For my likings, I thing , the tremolo is too far back . I like to play mor towards the middle ,or towards the neck pickups, with my hand on the tremolo arm all the time . I would like your thoughts on it . Thanks again great review.
Use 11s instead of 10s (maybe even 12s) and use wound G set. Bigsbys are temperamental and mastering one is an artform. But its worth it!
This guitar is good to worship or the lespaul gretsch is better?
Great sounds. I guess no coil splits? I think a roller bridge is key to tuning stability.
Thanks or the video although I wqs wishing that you would get on with some licks and get over the Trem.
As a builder in my old age,
Locking tuners and roller bridge are both really inexpensive fixes,
And will fix tuning issues 99.9% of the time.
(Smoothing and opening the string grooves on the nut just a bit is the only other thing that I can think of offhand)
What locking tuners will be a direct replacement for the stock tuners on this guitar?
@@samlelowitch I don’t own one of these, but from stock pictures looks like single screw 3x3 tuners. Hipshot makes some that look to be direct, from the looks of them.
($50-60)
Hey, your guitar sounds amazing. What pickup height are you using? From polepiece to the string? Even if its factory default, I would love to know.
Hi what amp are you running this through? I have a Gretsch G2420T with broad tron pickups. I always thought it sounded a bit flat, but this sounds great. I was thinking of installing filter trons in this guitar. My guitar dosn't have the clean, crisp breaking glass Gretsch sound. I agree about the tuning stability, my G is an issue too. My guitar was advised with Grover tuning heads, but I think they have since added Grover style tuning heads.
I just bought a Gretsch G5230T from Thomann, on sale for £388. I can't wait for the post! Great review!
It’s just an amp sim on my computer! I can’t remember which one I was using in this video but most likely Bias Fx!
Is there a sparkle to the finish?
I really love this guitar, I think I saw it in my local shop while picking up a strap. It was hanging up on a wall and with the light hitting it just right, this thing called to me. I had to resist buying it right there, I didn't even ask the guys what guitar it was, but I'm fairly certain it was this.
Tuning on a non locking vibrato tail is almost always about the nut. Unfortunately, cutting it properly is a job best done by a very experienced hand. But once sorted there's no reason at all for a Bigsby or Maestro to be any worse than a strat vibrato for tuning stability. Thanks for the vid. I'm looking at the just-announced P90 version of this guitar and I wanted to know if the construction and finishing is good for a budget semi-hollow. Did you notice any issues?
Is Gretsch using rosewood fretboards on the streamliners? They were using Indian laurel on streamliners and most squires which imo is actually makes for really nice unique tones. Its I guess a kind of raspy resonance
It's a Laurel board on this model as well. 👍🏻
This sure seems like a guitar that will handle everything from
The Reverend Horton Heat to Megadeth!
Ive got one of these in hard tail being delivered tomorrow. I swerved the bigsby version, never been a fan of the look of them, I think leaning on that thing to any degree will always cause issues unless everything else is a1, tuners, nut, the works.
I get ya, it’s super fun to play but does take a bit of settling to get it right!
Less tremolo demonstration next time. Otherwise nice. Cheers
Fair point - but it’s the tremolo version of the guitar & if I didn’t use it much I’d get comments saying the opposite 😂 but, I did use it a lot tbf
Is it comfortable, does it stay in tune?
It does if you keep it well oiled I’ve heard.
And you just have to stretch your strings a lot anyways and that helps for every guitar
Everything went fine till everything went bad when you used a lot of pedals.
