I'm not the Carolyn you had mentioned, but since you said my name, I must respond. lol I love your videos. They are real and not overly staged; organic. I ordered my FD in January and I am so excited and can't wait to try all kinds of the fun things you show us. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much, Carolyn! I figure if I stage them, I'll never do them. I don't have time for that. Thank you so much for commenting. I can't WAIT to see what you do with your FD. Congratulations. It's going to be great!
I love your videos and thank you for being a leader for us and giving us a great base and great ideas for what to make! I love FD ham steaks and Costco rotisserie chicken for just snacking! Never would have tried it without you! I just wish I had more time to put towards FD stuff!
I must agree with you that people may not understand now why we do what we do, one day when the brown stuff hits the whirly thing and we have yummy food to offer, it will all be worth it. My reasoning to family and regular peeps is that I have such a large garden and am sick of either composting my excess or trying to find people to give it away to. Now I can preserve my harvest and live off it all year. This is true, but I just won't show them what I have stashed under the spare beds! I'm loving my freeze drier and am always inspired by you experienced preservers. I've never heard of malt-o-meal but a breakfast cookie is an awesome idea. I'll have to put my thinking cap on for that one. By the way I had another go at sour cream using a different brand and had better success. I also tried a low fat one and that was even better. I think I just need to be prepared to experiment and chalk failures down to a learning experience. Thanks for what you do in sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it and am learning heaps.
Helen! I love your comments. Thank you so much. And yes, I agree with you on ALL of the above. Hahah under the beds. I'm snort laughing. That's perfect. Great job on trying the new stuff. That's interesting that a different brand did better. You'll be glad you did sour cream. I'm a firm believer that sour cream can make a rock taste good. :) I'll keep looking for your comments. Thank you again. You're much appreciated!
My favorite way to eat cream of wheat is to cook it with milk, then serve with canned peaches and their juice stirred in, a little milk if desired; eat with toast with butter. Yum!
I’m wondering what it would be like if you added things like fruits and nuts. Kind of like a breakfast bar grab and go. It looks like that would be a perfect base for something like that.
What a great idea!!! The malt o'meal is a REALLY great binder. A lot of things crumble and don't hold up that great, but these would probably do awesome. Maybe with lighter density items - like strawberry slices or granola mixed in. Nuts don't freeze dry that well (rather not for that long of time), but if they're going to be eaten soon, I don't see why they wouldn't work great! OOh, I want to go try this now. Great idea. I have spinach in right now. This sounds so much yummier. Thanks for stopping by and commenting
Not yet! I'm working myself up to it. I have a horrible addiction to apple and cinnamon and I have NO control. So, I told my husband when we do it, it's going to have to be on a preplanned cheat weekend. Lol. Wouldn't that be great if oatmeal cookies worked? I'd be soooo happy!
I also didn't know this was a thing! You had me at cookie though, so I will be scouring my local grocery stores to find it! LOL I'm running a load of cheese through the FD now, which I know you can appreciate. Only had the machine since mid January and I'm not sure why it took me so long to do a cheese run. I made the mistake of doing apples first, so almost no real food has gone in LTS because I keep buying more apples and eating them from the trays. LOL Surprised I haven't become diabetic since getting the machine! I need some good salty/crunchy veggie snacks with seasoning... would love your suggestions. I've done some veggies for ingredients but not yet as snacks. Binge watched your channel in the wee hours and subbed!!!
OH GIRL! I feel the apples addiction. Do NOT do strawberries. DON'T. RUN! Or do go and try it. Hehehe. Congrats on the cheese run. Those will change your life. Okay, some fun salty snacks - I highly recommend trying string cheese cut into 1 inch-ish sections and FD. You won't be able to stop eating those either. I have a video coming up. I love them! Okay, now salty veggie/fruit snacks. I said fruit because tomatoes are fruit and halving a cherry tomato and FD'ing is... amazing! Also, salt and pepper some canned green beans (not french cut) and those are better than eating chips. I also like mushrooms, but they need to be tossed in powdered ranch dip mix before. They're delicious. Thanks for your comments and for visiting! I can't wait to hear what else you make!
@@FreezeDryingMama Funny you mentioned strawberries... I'm not a fan of fresh strawberries because of the seeds. Had hoped FD would help with the texture. Nope! Still not a fan 😞 My last batch had a can of corn in it, and I could eat those all day but I'm sure that's not good for me. I've done cherry tomatoes too and they're ok... I just did them with salt but powdered seasonings don't seem to stick well and they're never as potent as they were before FDing. I just did carrot slices with Lawry's seasoning and celery with onion powder and broccoli *coated* with paprika, thyme, and garlic salt... you can taste the broccoli clear as day but the seasonings not so much. Going to try some with marinades next to try to get that pop of flavor. Will try the green beans in the next load along with some roasted zucchini... fingers crossed! Eager for the string cheese video... keep'em coming!!! 💗
@@karenpage9383 that is SOO interesting. Isn't it crazy how the flavoring can be there or not? I'm definitely stocking up on salts and packets lol. I can't wait to hear how they turn out!
@@FreezeDryingMama OK, had to pop in to tell you about my last batch of cherry tomatoes! I tried them 2 ways and love them both... 1 batch had a coating of Italian dressing (Ken's Steak House Northern Italian Lite, to be exact) and 1 batch with a balsamic dressing. I worried about the fat content in the dressing but it totally was not an issue! OMG, so good! We're growing so many cherry and snacking tomatoes this year and I can't wait I have enough to run a full load! For now I'm settling for grocery store tomatoes which are never as good as home grown. I tried FDing some leftover roasted veggies, and even though I patted them on paper towels before FD, they still had too much oil. They were mighty tasty but would not last long due to the oil. I'm going to try again with a light spray of avocado oil instead of olive oil to see if I can reduce the oil enough that they will hold at least a couple weeks in storage to be used as snacks. I'd love it if I could use them for LTS, but I don't know how the roasting would turn out without at least some oil. The dressing is a total game changer in terms of seasoning, so I'm trying it now with sliced zucchini and crookneck squash! I wanna whip up a batch of avocado dressing and try it on cucumber slices and more cherry tomatoes!

Thank you so much Melanie, for the comment. You're a sweetheart! And yes on the time. I wish I had more as well.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart ....Yes for the video but MORE SO for what you said. I NEEDED that more than I can express. ❤

Didn't know chocolate Malt O Meal was a thing. Sounds awesome!
Yes, they had me at chocolate, then they added Malt oMeal. Oh mY WORD!!!

I'm going to have to try this! have you tried oatmeal?

I would have put more water in it to make it look more like the multimille supposed to
To recon it? Or before? Good suggestion!
