Dr. Frita Fisher Stresses Importance of ‘Good’ Kidney Habits

  • Dr. Frita Fisher of Midtown Atlanta Nephrology joins Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss healthy kidney habits, including drinking a lot of water, a low salt diet and exercising.
    High rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases leaves Black people three times more likely than white people to develop kidney failure and unfortunately, end up on dialysis. Dr. Fisher says these health issue plagues the Black community disproportionately and it’s largely environmental. In an effort to avoid kidney failure, Dr. Fisher also encourages seeing your primary care doctor regularly and avoiding things that are harmful, including certain pain medications.

    Thanks for the information. However, not all people of African ancestry identify as black, which is common in the South. I identify as African American and brown which is common in the West.
