I’m not sure any story mode could top off what this DLC achieved. I think the reason why it was peak was because the lore of it continued in real time after you beat the expansion. Every player using the octoling online fits into the narrative of them coming to the surface which is just perfect. I have high hopes for Splatoon 3’s dlc but I’m also 100% content with ranking Octo Expansion as my #1 story experience forever lol

Tips for the expansion:
In the very beginning of the game, when you first meet the phone, break it off the ground and destroy it. Then you should get on the train and kill C.Q. Cumber. Then, go to the first level, throw C.Q.'s body as a distraction to the octolings, and run. Then break the wall and go through the next level, throwing something else and continuing. At the end, when you see the blender, immediately grab the hardest and most durable thing you can find around you and throw it at the blender. If that doesn't work, shoot it or throw a weapon until it breaks, then climb to the top of it and break through the ceiling, where you will see Agent 3 hiding in the roof. Grab them and have them help you dig yourselves out, saving both of you and getting to the surface.

Aretha Franklin's reincarnated Squidling went HAM at the end!
I looked into all the game's composers and I think Shiho Fujii & Ryo Nagamatsu are the big guns on the team. Nagamatsu composed the entire soundtracks for wii sports resort and mariokart wii, and i beleive Fujii's background in many genres of music helped give this game the huge diversity of styles.
Am I only one who's watching this for the music?

A giant Isopod, some relative of a sea lily, a Hatchetfish (maybe), Gulper Eel, Narrownose Chimaera, Blobfish, Sea Cucumber, and a Sea Pig (I think).

Return of the Mammalians was great, but Octo Expansion was what proved that Splatoon’s single player-campaigns can actually be engaging and more than just a casual little something that’s tacked on.
- Eight is the most fleshed out protagonist we’ve ever gotten in the series to date. Not only are they the first playable character to have a first person camera view, but there’s a whole lot of insight from all the poems they write for the Mem cakes. It feels like they’re speaking real dialogue through subtle means.
- Marina’s Chat Room gave us more moments in between with Pearl and Marina that expand on their characters and reveal things that we haven’t actually heard before. There’s a real, actual form of authentic engagement between characters instead of just the occasional snarky commentary and the bits of text we get from pressing the A button near a character.
- The story is just so much more engaging overall. Rather than just a simple affair of falling into a grate and being told to save the world, we get a tale of an Octopus girl who’s lost all of their memories, longs to reach the surface and uncovers a closeted conspiracy about a genocidal telephone running an operation where living creatures have their bodies blended into green sludge, which is then pumped and injected into other living creatures to “sanitize” them of their free will, and used to power a weapon of mass destruction, all in the name of humanity. Eight nearly ended up being blended into that very same sludge, and Three even experienced the process of sanitization with their mind hijacked by a translucent, green tentacle. When all is said and done, we get to look at the sunset as the credits roll, and celebrate the victory of finally reaching the surface.
If Nintendo can only provide us with an engaging form of storytelling in Splatoon through DLC, then I’m willing to jump on that train.

i can see how it was a great game at the time and it's still an all around good game now but its seriously overrated

splatoon has incredibly unique mechanics & zelda's masive open word was well executed but mario is just jump on enemies heads, a mechanic that i personally find somewhat frustrating and a bit finicky
yes ik odyssey has the whole inhibiting enemies body thing but kirby south already does that

I love how the octo expansion takes like a sort of 80s turn on music and design and stuff instead of the modern take with the rest of the game.

One of the best DLCs to ever be released. I came back to this since yesterday the Side Order release date announced. I can't believe it is going to be 6 years since this DLC was released.

I still get chills every time I watch this. The music is a bop, and nothing will quite compare to the hype I felt the day this came out and realized this meant playable octolings.
Even moreso now after the Splatoon 3 direct for some reason.
Friendly reminder: Be warned, If ya fail to do something, the character in 1:01 will blow you up.
And if you're wondering if this is a metaphor, yes and no. You will blow up in anger. But Agent 8 will also physically blow up.
CQ Cumber is so dang Angering! but you at least get to play as an Octoling once you beat the expansion.

Remember when I first saw this back in 7th grade I was freaking tf out I must’ve watched this trailer over 100 times. The splatoons franchise has been a major part of my life since the first game
We are getting Side Order in February so I had to take a look back at the prior DLC, I miss the era so much of S2..
Splatoon had it's big moment and then smash was revealed
I just don't get smash. It's decent and I like it, but I can't understand why people jump and rave upon hearing its name. At best it's just a 12+ version of Team Kirby Clash DX but with characters from multiple franchises and companies. Maybe it's the same as how smash players don't get a game where we run around shooting ink at the ground to win.
It's a fun brawler with all your favorite characters, and it's suprisingly complex if you want to get actually into it. Like, competitive Street Fighter kind of complex. If you want. If not it's just a game where Link beats up Mario and Pikachu.
And getting the INklings in there looks like it will be even better.

I remember when I first watched this. I would listen to this on a loop for hours during school. The experience of the actual dlc was fun, difficult and anger enduring all at once. I loved it.

The single player levels hold up just as well as Turf War. I wouldn't mind a few challenge packs themed around specific weapons.

Anything added to to Salmon Run is very welcome. Right now it's still a LITTLE bit bare bones with only 4 stages. There's so much they could add to it. Not just more stages, but also new music, new Salmonids, new modes etc.
This means that they can just keep one splatoon game alive for the next 6-8 years of the switch's life! This is what I want.

Given how hard the stages look and the fact that this is a $20 DLC you'll definitely know that if you see an Octoling on the other team they mean business and are probably about to wipe the floor with you if you aren't ready.

This is one of the most underrated trailers Nintendo has made. It explains what it needs to while presenting mysteries for the player to solve. It doesn’t need any narration to inform the viewer. And this is put with a banging song.
I am rewatching this and in retrospect it's such a creative, stylish and hype trailer from such a simple concept. They basically have Agent 8 walking slowly through the train and taking cool angles from it with the occasional plot NPC placed and posed into the shot. The music and editing really makes it!
We've finally crossed the Paid DLC threshold, and it actually seems to be well worthwhile in this case. While I would have been irked if they were just introducing Octolings and themed gear, the inclusion of a new story mode completely justifies $20 to me.

There's also 80 new stages in the new story mode. It's intense. Definitely worth $20

i cried here. Everything looks so cool. The fact we can play as an Octoling. the singers returning. teaser at a good story. omg. Its really glorious and i cant. new bosses. im really tearing up here

DoLan I was also debating this, but i think they did it to have an easier way to let the octolings fit all the clothing thats already sized to inklings.
maybe they might add free updates to the dlc, like more hairstyles, bc i only saw 1 for each (boy and girl)

I'm pretty sure it'll be BETTER than this trailer.
It wasn't that good, they put just like a little hint of the new side. the one that was supposted to be if order had won in the last splatfest from splatoon 2. I STILL confident that this octo expansion has more impact or at least the video has more intensity.
