The next time you get a romance kick you NEED to read Abby Jimenez!!! Her and Emily Henry are the reigning traditionally published romance queens for me at the moment
emily henry has cemented herself as my favorite romance writer by far!! she really grounds her romances and other relationships in the books with a level of reality that just fills me with all the feels and i feel so connected to her characters’ struggles, and obviously the romantic pacing is top notch
I’m not a romance reader. At all. But I’ve never heard anything bad about Emily Henry. She seems really nice. I may never read her work, but she has my respect
I am also not a romance reader, but having read Emily Henry, she has earned my readership. She has such smart writing in her romance books. Up until her, I had never given a romance book anything higher than 3 stars, I gave Funny Story 4 stars.
I just did the same thing! Read Book Lovers around a year ago and loved it, then read Funny Story when it came out, and decided about a week ago to just binge all Emily Henry books. I am currently reading Happy Place which is the last one left of her romances. For now, Book Lovers is still at the top, followed by Funny Story, then People We Meet on Vacation, then Beach Read. Funny Story is the only one I didn't do on audiobook, so I might revisit for that experience alone. PWMOV was such an addictive read, though. I did not know I liked friends to lovers until this book.
Happy Place was literally my unhappy place, because the entire book wouldn't exist if everyone would just Talk. To. Each. Other. I was so frustrated the whole time and just couldn't enjoy it. However, I love all of her other books. PWMOV is a fave bc I looooove friends to lovers.
Yesss I felt the same! Like I still rated it three stars because Emily Henry’s writing, but I did not enjoy reading it because it honestly felt frustrating and kind of bleak the whole time. And the more I thought about the ending, the angrier I got at Harriet lol.
I didn’t expect to love happy place because everyone was complaining about how they just needed to actually talk to each other if they’re really that good of friends. But it made me cry because as someone who had a close friend group in college that all coupled off and don’t keep in touch as well as we used to, it was painfully relatable. You forget what you told each other already, you start being selective with what details you actually need to burden them with. You still think you know each other well, but so much has changed. I know the ending is controversial but I understood why she did it and it didn’t really bother me nor was I surprised.
I have read 2 books by Emily Henry, and i already feel like her #1 fan! Like i totally get you about everything you speak about her writing. The vulnerability, the intense scenes, the romantic conversations, love she has for her characters, the small town setting she always goes for!! I want all her books!!!
The readability of Emily Henry's books is unmatched for me. Even if I don't give a book 5 stars, I love them. I devour them in a day or two and crave more. She is one of the only authors I preorder and read as soon as they come out.
I’m so glad you’re a fan of Emily Henry 😩❤️ Book Lovers made me cry but mostly because I have a sister, I’m still reading Funny Story and am planning on picking up Happy Place soon! I’m glad you enjoyed!❤
I loved watching your reaction to Funny Story! It was my introduction to Emily Henry and I have been making my way through her other adult books in the order published and I've been loving them!
Ok you convinced me! I usually hate and don't read contemporary romance but I just put two EH books on hold because now I have to read them for summer! 😂
I really like Emily Henry but I really didn’t like Happy Place 😬 I liked the romance in it but I got so annoyed at how terrible the friendship group were and the fact that these people who have been friends for like 10 years literally can’t talk to each other about anything and I just couldn’t deal with it
I had a really hard time with the friendships in Happy Place. I didn't see them as actually being close in present day, but more that they used to be close and were around each other just for old time's sake. They were all pretty manipulative in their lying to each other and I can't get behind that as any mark of an acceptable friendship.
Emily Henry is the only romance author I read! I'm a literary fiction girly through and through but she manages to get to me. My fav one was probably Happy Place! I've requested Funny Story from the Library, excited to get it.
Girl, you are BREATHING romance in this one, whoa. :D Emily Henry is terrific. Also, for the next time the hyperfixation comes, try Carley Fortune. She's excellent at dramatic romance. Also, the "German show" got me too and season 2 is already announced and oh my gosh, the ANGST it's going to deliver is already making me a little insane.
As someone who is also quite particular about romance novels, I’d recommend you try Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez. She is the only writer who comes close to Henry for me.
HUGE Emily Henry fan. All of them are an easy 5/5 stars for me. Highly recommend doing on them on audio as well. This is my ranking: 5. People We Meet on Vacation 4. Beach Read 3. Funny Story 2. Happy Place 1. Book Lovers
Ahh so glad you loved all of these!! Absolutely love Book Lovers and Funny Story (and Beach Read, that’s my top 3). Happy Place was mid level for me and People We Meet On Vacation is my least favorite but I still love everything she writes no matter what 😆😍
i just got done with book lovers and it was so so amazing. i was nervous it was going to put me in a slump because everything will pale , but i just ordered happy place so 🙈 i am ready
That ramen bowl fit the theme so perfectly! The red lettering is the Chinese character "囍" which means happiness and is always used in wedding decorations.
I love Emily Henry. She's one of my favorite authors. My ranking goes Funny Story, Book Lovers, Beach Read, Happy Place, and People We Meet on Vacation. The first three are all 5 stars and the other other two are 4.5 stars, so I honestly love all of them!!
I got the audiobook for book lovers the other day to try out because I'm getting Emily Henry fomo lol. I don't generally read romance but I'm trying to branch out a bit with my reading and I love books with bookish themes so I picked that one.
I've heard so many things about different Henry books that idk what to read anymore 😂 I wasn't a huge dan of Beach Read, but maybe I should give Funny Story a try ❤
I just love your vlogs. I read Emily Henry's first three novels and I yet have to read Happy place and Funny story. But I loooooved Beach read (you really need to get to it) and Book lovers was close second. People we meet on vacation was ok... But I'm looking forward to get to her two most recent ones! 🤗 This made me want to pick up a romance book so am just starting The unhoneymooners!
I thought I didn’t like second chance romance until I read Happy Place and Forget Me Not by Julie Soto… i highly recommend that one too if you wanna try more of that subgenre!!!
I'm not big on romance but it sounds like Emily Henry is the best bet if I want to try it, but I really hate angst and miscommunication tropes and fake dating (really who does that?), I think I lean more to enemies to lovers, I don't like very steamy either (so embarrassing) so which one should I try?
I've read all the EmHen books and everytime you picked up a book that wasnt People We Meet on Vacation, my soul died a thousand deaths. Please tell me you read it and we will get a review. Please 😩💔
emily henry's books is like the best recipe to make a good romcom movie, wraps up so well each and every time even when it is very predictable. my new favorite is definitely funny story! with book lovers second. i did try reading "the people we meet on vacation" but i stopped since its not really that fun?? happy place is the worst book for me, the book felt too real but in the worse way possible, and the ending left me ripping my hairs out
This is off topic, but because of one of your other videos a while back, I read the Grace Draven Fallen Empire series. You have similar taste in romance as me and I'm obsessed with this series... well I was obsessed with the first one, the second one was lovely but not as good as the first, but I'm commenting mostly because I'm reading the third one now (Raven Unveiled) and that one is more on par with the first in terms of tension and drama and I'm loving it. I think you will, too (I don't know if you ever ended up getting to it). Don't know if you wanted more romance, but highly recommend finishing out the Fallen Empire series. It's Siora/Gharek from the second book and it's *chef's kiss*. More on topic, I love your Reading Vlogs even when I have no interest in the books because you're just such a joy to watch. (I generally don't even care for vlogs at all, let alone about books I'm not super interested in), but I still love having you on in the background while I'm cozy gaming. Thanks for the vibes!
I really enjoyed Beach Read, which was my first Emily Henry book. I’m currently reading Funny Story and I honestly don’t like it as much as Beach Read for some reason. I think I just connected with January as a character more than Daphne. I also find fake dating to be a bit childish in characters that are in their 30s (of which I am also). I can imagine doing something like that in my teens and even early 20s but I just can’t imagine doing it right now in my 30s. That probably makes it less enjoyable to me too. But I still love EH and how her romance books are really more about her main heroine’s personal growth than the romance itself. Her characters are extremely relatable. That opening scene in FS is so cringe 😂 I literally went, “ahhh!” To my husband out loud and had to explain.
i’ve read Book Lovers and Happy Place so far in EH’s backlog, loved happy place so much but book lovers really just wasn’t for me, i can’t wait to read Funny Story though
I thought Book Lovers was just okay, but Funny Story is a 5 stars for me! It's probably one of my fav romance! I applaud Emily Henry for not writing annoying or immature MCs. Daphne was so relatable and Miles is just soooo nice. He is seriously one of the best male MC I've ever read. 🫠 May I also say, Emily Henry is a pro at writing physical touch haha! The chemistry was insane.
I just recently finished Funny Story and had sooo much fun with it! I haven’t read the other 3, but I’ve heard people say that the 4 books basically have 2 camps, either people love Funny Story and Happy Place the most, or they love Beach Read and Book Lovers the most? I don’t know how true it is but it’s something I’ve seen pop up a lot
I started EH with Happy Place and gave it 2 stars. I felt it was very predictable, like a rom com series or Hallmark movie. Rich friend who is the mom of the group, the artist lesbian and the brainiac who doesn’t take care of her appearance, the “broken up” characters are out in the large bedroom, I promise you when I was reading it I kept mumbling “I called it” and I rolled my eyes so much that I ended up having a headache.
It's so funny that Book Lovers and Happy Place are top/bottom for everyone (for me Book Lovers is my fave and Happy Place my least fave (still 4 stars, amazing)). People who love Happy Love the most tend to put Book Lovers near the bottom. I'll have to ponder that...
Same for me! Book Lovers first and Happy Place last. I think it's something to do with people who like the "opposites attract" thing vs. people who are into characters with more in common? Also sidenote I'm sick of reading books where the female mc gives her career up, "not just for the guy," when clearly the guy is a big reason for it...
@@ivyomwanda9612that’s what really irked me about Happy Place too! And actually what I loved in Funny Story was that Daphne’s decision at the end of the book was very much rooted in her career, friendships, and community, not just a romantic relationship
I’m really disappointed that you didn’t see through the juvenile premises and the belief that a grown professional woman could be so clueless of her boyfriend’s behavior and the way he treats her like a doormat 😢. If you told me this was YA (minus the fair episode), I would actually believe it. Sorry
all her books have a level of reality that grounds and supports the fun romance tropes (which i love) and i didn’t find book lovers to be sadder than others, so not sure how you will feel about others, but I think they all are worth reading for how well written the romances are. I had most fun reading funny story but I teared up at a part too, that may be best to try next since the premise really is funny
I'd say yes, like the other commenter said they all have more serious issues that are covered besides the romance. But it might depend how depressing or heavy it is depending on the theme the book covers, some might hit harder than others depending on you own experiences, but they all have something like that.
The next time you get a romance kick you NEED to read Abby Jimenez!!! Her and Emily Henry are the reigning traditionally published romance queens for me at the moment
Agree! They both have craft characters so well and have writing that is unmatched in the romance genre!
emily henry has cemented herself as my favorite romance writer by far!! she really grounds her romances and other relationships in the books with a level of reality that just fills me with all the feels and i feel so connected to her characters’ struggles, and obviously the romantic pacing is top notch
The way I was on the edge of my seat for you to get Book Lovers - uggggh I LOVE it so much. Def my fave Emily Henry 💕
Book lovers was in my #1 spot out of Emily Henry’s books until I read Funny Story. Hands down my favorite by her, it was SUCH a great read
You eating up Emily Henry means me eating up this video! I’ve just read funny story and LOVED it now I need to try her other books 🥰
Miles is top tier! Funny Story is without a doubt my favorite Emily Henry book.
I’m not a romance reader. At all. But I’ve never heard anything bad about Emily Henry. She seems really nice. I may never read her work, but she has my respect

I'm so pleased you did this vlog but bitterly disappointed you didn't read You and Me on Vacation as it's my favourite!😊
!!!! I promise to read it soon!

Your one of my favorite booktubers and Emily Henry is becoming one of my favorite authors so this is the perfect comfort video!
you're lol
Was really looking forward to you reading People We Meet on Vacation 😭😭😭 It’s so underrated!
I always felt like I was the only person who didn't love Book Lovers and Beach Read. Funny story and Happy Place though though were so good!!
I didn’t expect to love happy place because everyone was complaining about how they just needed to actually talk to each other if they’re really that good of friends. But it made me cry because as someone who had a close friend group in college that all coupled off and don’t keep in touch as well as we used to, it was painfully relatable. I just did this exact same thing and read Book Lovers and Happy Place in like 4 days 🤣 Beach Read is still my favorite one
Ahh i'm literally planning an 'emily henry summer' because I want to binge all her books! this has made me so excited!!!
Watching this as I pack for my bookish girls trip. Can't wait to head up to Michigan and read Funny Story this weekend!
Love Emily Henry! Happy place is my favorite!
The readability of Emily Henry's books is unmatched for me. Even if I don't give a book 5 stars, I love them. I devour them in a day or two and crave more. She is one of the only authors I preorder and read as soon as they come out.
I love Emily Henry too! And Happy Place is one of the best books I've read so far this year. I can't wait to pick up Funny Story!
I’m so glad you’re a fan of Emily Henry 😩❤️ Book Lovers made me cry but mostly because I have a sister, I’m still reading Funny Story and am planning on picking up Happy Place soon! I’m glad you enjoyed!❤
Emily Henry does what Colleen Hoover wishes she could... I said what I said 🫡
I loved watching your reaction to Funny Story! It was my introduction to Emily Henry and I have been making my way through her other adult books in the order published and I've been loving them!
My personal ranking:
1. Book Lovers
2. Beach Read
3. Happy Place
I am reading people we meet on vacation next!
Ok you convinced me! I usually hate and don't read contemporary romance but I just put two EH books on hold because now I have to read them for summer! 😂

Looved Beach read and Book lovers but really didnt enjoy PWMOV or Happy place 😂 Im really excited to get to Funny story !
I love Emily Henry's writing! I'm currently reading Happy Place, and Funny Story is next on my list! 😊
Emily Henry is the only romance author I read! I'm a literary fiction girly through and through but she manages to get to me. My fav one was probably Happy Place! I've requested Funny Story from the Library, excited to get it.

This vlog has such a great vibe - I loved it!💛 And now I want to read all these books😅
I’m planning to read all Emily Henry books this summer so this video was perfect for me 😊
I agree with you that book lovers is my least favorite (but still so good) I found myself connecting more with the characters in her other books
HUGE Emily Henry fan. All of them are an easy 5/5 stars for me. Highly recommend doing on them on audio as well. This is my ranking: 5. People We Meet on Vacation 4. Beach Read 3. Funny Story 2. Happy Place 1. Book Lovers
I have all of these and I’m even more excited to get started now!
Book Lovers is my FAVE Emily Henry novel
Not me sitting down with lunch at the exact time you post this! Perfect timing 💖
Reading my first Emily Henry book right now. Happy Place. So far so good!
I ordered Funny Story in hardcover, because the Kindle was 12.99, feel like this author might be keep on the shelf good
I feel like everyone loves Happy Place but me.
Thank you for sharing your "bucket of doom"! We have a "docubox" in our house, which is...literally a Keds shoebox.
That ramen bowl fit the theme so perfectly! The red lettering is the Chinese character "囍" which means happiness and is always used in wedding decorations.
omg! thank you for letting me know!!
Completely off topic but love the new thumbnail style!! 💖
I love Emily Henry. She's one of my favorite authors. My ranking goes Funny Story, Book Lovers, Beach Read, Happy Place, and People We Meet on Vacation. The first three are all 5 stars and the other other two are 4.5 stars, so I honestly love all of them!!
Happy Place and PWMOV supremacy!!!
I just finished Happy Place last night! Perfect timing ❤

Love Emily Henry and I loved this video!!!
You made me wanna read Happy place 😊
i know you've answered this question elsewhere before so i apologize in advance but where is your charm necklace from??
I thought I didn’t like second chance romance until I read Happy Place and Forget Me Not by Julie Soto… i highly recommend that one too if you wanna try more of that subgenre!!!

That’s interesting, because I felt like the book closest to Funny Story was Beach Read actually.
book lovers is maybe a 3.5 star for me, only because it took me a while to finish.
where is the green and white striped shirt from when you work on the Cricut? so cute!
I started EH with Happy Place and gave it 2 stars. I felt it was very predictable, like a rom com series or Hallmark movie. Ok I'll read Emily Henry finally lol
I don't read contemporary romance, unless it is m/m, so Emily Henry doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but I enjoyed this vlog.
I still haven’t read a single Emily Henry book 😭
I just have to ask, as a Texas girlie myself.... how are you surviving summer with long-sleeves and sweaters??
delusion lol
Reading romance novels, do you guys imagine actors, or cartoon versions of the characters, or just… nothing?
ayyy maine gang
❤️📚
Is his name Wyn... I read it as wyn... If you what I mean 🚶✨
I’m really disappointed that you didn’t see through the juvenile premises and the belief that a grown professional woman could be so clueless of her boyfriend’s behavior and the way he treats her like a doormat 😢. If you told me this was YA (minus the fair episode), I would actually believe it. Sorry
Sorry that was regarding the first book
beach reads is still the best. the rest are meh
For some reason I found Book Lovers a bit depressing and heavy. Are all her books like that?
all her books have a level of reality that grounds and supports the fun romance tropes (which i love) and i didn’t find book lovers to be sadder than others, so not sure how you will feel about others, but I think they all are worth reading for how well written the romances are.
I'm in the minority and cannot stand her books. I keep trying though because I'm stupid. lol
