It was taking me like 30 minutes of pin-cushioning something while hitting nothing but 1's and 2's to finally get it... Thanks for the easy-to-follow and in-depth guide!
Yeah, that is unfortunately a pain in the ass, that the ingame tutorial only covers about half of the weapons movements and effects. Luckily we have this channel, that explains every weapon as good as this one!

Do you know how happy I am to learn that the bestest attack of the bow (Dragon Piercer) is actually able to not only be built up but used without stamina?! THANK YOU FOR THIS GUIDE! I lost interest in Monster Hunter because I felt I wasn't doing damage to my foes but clearly I just needed to learn how it worked. I'm diving back in thanks to you, friend. Keep up the AMAZING work!
Wow awesome, i learned so many new things about the bow xD i need to try it again with all this knowledge... i was using just charge shots and dragonpiercers without charge...
Yeah but monster hunters always been about learning tricks like that and becoming a better player, like waving at the balloons or learning the dodge frames it's why i love it and Arekkz has our backs :)
It's less that it doesn't teach you and more that this is different than the previous games. It used to be best to always charge, now it's best to rapid fire.
Welcome to a game series that get's better and better the more you learn about it! Mastering a weapon is all part of the process hope you stick with it :)
I've been waiting for this one. Previous games I was primarily HH/CB/LBG/LS user but bow just never really grabbed me. This game I have been maining bow and its so much fun. Going to give some of these combo's a try to see if they improve my dmg output. I think there are few things more satisfying than a dragon piercer going through a mons head to tail to end up cutting off the tail. Thanks Arekkz!
I just wanted to thank you for these tutorials, they really helped me a lot when I started playing this game. I'm using the bow as my main weapon now :) One thing I would like to add after hundreds of hunts together with other players: As a bow user, be mindful of when you use the arc shoot and the dragon piercer. Both of these will stagger your team mates and will cancel their combos, which can be incredibly frustrating to them and be counter-productive overall. Especially the arc shot can be very annoying to other players since it's affecting the area for several seconds. So, whenever you play in a team, watch out not to mess with other people's play, it'll make the whole experience more fun for everyone :)
I have been using the bow for a while and I never realized that clicking r2 three times made the arrow charge full. Not gonna lie but videos like this sometimes makes me think that I should have done more research before using it XD anyway thanks for info man good luck from Canada
I’m just starting the monster Hunter games today, and I’m just trying different weapons, and for me the bow just feels so easy. It’s simpler than melee weapons but has that potential power to it with the ailments and the range makes it a safer option. Thanks for the video, the moves will no doubt help this noob become a Monster Hunting Badass.
Two other things to always keep in mind: The arc shot can chain trip teammates leaving them open to the mercy of the monster, and you need to remember your quarry's weak point. The difference in damage between weak point and non-weak point hits of the bow if massive, much higher than melee's difference. Make those shots count.
I know this is an old video but I wanted to add something, the bow is exceptionally good at interacting with traps. With how quick moving is with the bow you can easily lure a monster under a falling pillar/rock or into any other traps. Of course all weapons can do this to an extent but no other class has both the mobility, and range (besides maybe the sword/shield during some situations) to interact with these traps.
I knew I was missing something about the bow and that was doing a charged piercer shot. Thanks Arekkz for filling me in on that dude, I never knew it was there
The bow reminds me of the great sword, relying on movements and powerful charged moves, the bowguns have some diverse and strong shots, melee weapons having cool combos have to be incentives for playing a more risky style.

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I've been using the light bow gun but this makes me want to try the bow as I'm new to the series. I havent been able to play in a week since I've been sick.
Anthony Espinal Ive been using the light bow gun. It was the easiest weapon to pick up and play with me being new to the series. I like it. I just made one that allows me to use more ammo types than before.
I just started giving the bow a proper chance since I was turned away by it in past games and by its low-ish single damage numbers when I first tried it out. And uh. Yeah. Cutting off a charging Anjanath's tail with Dragon Piercer felt fantastic and the weapon itself is now a total blast to use. I need to stop focusing on getting good kill times and just focus on having fun and it's probably the most fun I've had with World in a while.
Since ranged weapons deal less damage, how much would you say is the time difference between ranged and melee? I still am the person who’s conscious about kill times. I still want to use the bow though!
@@mrndc Bow is like top 5 weapons in speedrun times. If you know how to get combo and save stamina, even without mantles you can get super short times on ATs and most regular monsters you can kill sub 10 mins
Best guide by far. So much better presentation, correct information, easier to understand than other people's guide. Make other's peoples guide look bush league. Thank you, I have been trying to get into the bow but could not find a good guide.
I love how you and Gaijin have covered the 3 weapons i am most interest in first ; CB, lance and bow =) One thing you could add in these tutorials are "useful armor skills". You did cite one here, but giving us 2-3 could be useful for newer players. Cheers !
A good LR set is Rathalos with anja gauntlets since it not only gives you crit element (and Bow scales very well with Elemental damage) but also Weakness Exploit 1 and also boost your DP by 10%.
What’s tough about good armor skills is that most of them are viable, it just depends on what you’re playing and how you play. When I play bow I like to have as much stamina boosts as I can. So I have full constitution and stamina surge. I also love to gem in the ability to do sleep coating because it’s always satisfying to put a monster to sleep then bomb his face.
As someone coming very late into World from 4U and GU, I definitely needed this. I had been playing Bow the old way and was wondering why I wasn't doing anything all that effective. Combination of pessimism, bow being completely reworked, and underestimating my damage speed (I was looking more at the numbers than at how fast I was getting them) was bringing me down, but my friend parsing me through a Kushala Daora fight and your very well-written guide (as well as the comments mentioning Dragon Piercer cutting tails and other helpful bits) are making me feel a lot better about this. Props to you, and I hope you keep up the good work.
CrazyBurger2 constitution and evade extender can be nice for staying at critical distance and abusing evade shot chains. Beyond that I think it depends on how you want to play the bow. Go for para up if you're using para coatings a lot, etc. It's a bit tough to recommend skills for gunner weapons because each one has a different combination of shots.
I've been using a sword & shield since I started MHW about two weeks ago. I grabbed a bow after seeing some players use it, and went off to hunt a monster. With that just one experience, I was immediately put off. Then I happened upon this tutorial and decided to give it another shot. So happy with the results! After just playing with it for a day or two, I've happily switched to becoming a bow main. Thanks for the advice!
One thing I've learned about the dragon piercer is that even though when you are holding down LT and you have a limited turn range. You can let go of LT and turn your camera wherever you wish and if you press LT directly before releasing the arrow you will fire in that direction.
Nice to see this. I was having trouble doing single-digit damage with the bow but whenver I asked in forums why my damage was so low, people would just gush about how overpowered the bow is when you fully optimise it with _this_ exact combination of armours and gems. Which was _spectacularly_ unhelpful to someone who's six hours into the game and has no gems, no gem-slots and barely any armours unlocked.
I'm playing sunbreak now and glad that you made. I haven't seen any good bow tutorial guide for rise and sunbreak. It is all technical and build guide where Im just looking how to really start playing it. This one really gives me the basic of bow. Thanks and hopefully weapon workshop continue on with other MH games.
bald people trade hair for power they do. just ask my 33 year old friend. he can dead lift 400 and he know martial arts. whats even scarier is that he has tourettes.
MHW brought a lot of new players, so many surprised about piercing shots from head to tail :) Used to be the best way to get top dmg on big wyverns and induce statuses in the same time back in MHFU. It's worth to mention it hits in multiple waves and status coatings work the best with perfect hit. Also the circle combo is good for multiple small enemies, for it's wide reach and it also allows to put coatings at multiple enemies same time. Good videos Arekkz.
@@leonard9624 oof this was a year ago but I think I just kept spamming arch shot. I have since learned how to actually play the bow and want to inform you that spamming arch shot is NOT optimal play
Thank you for doing this. While being a new player to the series, I was finding myself having trouble finding a weapon I could enjoy. The bow was one of the ones I at least liked but still felt I was doing something wrong. This helped clear that up a lot. Despite the helpful hints in the practice area, some things are still left out and not clearly as intuitive for players to pick up on like the combos you detailed. Please continue to do these as I do want to try other weapons like the bow guns or the insect glaive. I still am amazed at how people can stay airborne with the IG for so long whereas I struggle to do the same immensely, but I'm sure you can break this down in detail as well with other idiosyncrasies of the other weapons for beginners like me. ^_^
@@Noflyzone22 i play the glaive. i got into the dual blades quick because i just love doing a ton of damage just going ham on whatever i want to kill. but its sad boi hours cuz i need to kill a bunch of things to upgrade my blades. and the sharpness on them is terrible! how are you supposed to do damage when your blades are already at red two minutes in! so here i am wanting to see if i can shoot things that i hate.
This is GREAT!! Thanks, man. I'm a complete noob at this game - been playing 2 days & loving it - and I learnt so much from this video. Will definitely be giving the bow a try.
You forgot to mention the proper way to use dragon piercer. You want to aim at the thickest part of the monster. Best case scenario you would should through the head out of the tail, the longer the DP is hitting the monster, the more times it hits. Up to 7 total I believe. If you shot through the side of a monsters head, for example, you would only see 2 to 3 damage numbers.
How convenient! My main two weapons are Charge Blade and Bow, yet I felt like I was lacking in both and wondered if there were some good tutorials. Lo and behold, amazing tutorials for both to start off this series! Thanks for the excellent work, man!
@Anthony Oliver Parker I'm also trying to learn the bow, the only issue I have with range weapons is constantly swapping and crafting the ammunitions/arrows in middle of a fight. Too much micro managing in my opinion.
Picked up this game on sale, just killed the mud swimming catfish with legs. I've been using bow and had no idea there were this many attacks. I've just been charging shots over and over. Your video is amazing. Thank you.
Good video as always, you forgot to explain that dragon piercer works much as a piercing pod tho, the arrow deals damage as it travels different layers of the monster, so always hitting the head si not as efficient as hitting (Damage wise) as aiming the dragon piercer to travel the most distance out of the insides of a monster.
Your tutorials are excellent, I just wish there was a quick way to see what the buttons are on an keyboard or Xbox controller. And how long did it take you to master all this? I have watched the charge blade tutorial and this and it's slightly overwhelming just how much you can do!
i have looked into a bunch of weapons and im trying to get into the bow. the insectglaive is hella fun and good for capturing. and for when you have a team to work up damage when you mount the creature and topple it. leaving you room to resharpen your blade and for making sure your team can wreck the creature.
Dude I'm playing Rise. The new guides are just lacks basic information that a returning playing needs. Your World guides are still relevant in Rise. Bless you.

Yo thanks for the guide. Just bought MH and didnt know anything how to play this game lol. But i love the Bow fighting mechanic so i’ll play as a Bow user🔥
The amount of stress that left my body when I realized I didn’t have to continually holding down the charge button to do the triangle combo was so good 😭

As a complete noob to the series, I'm subscribing to see more of these. Every weapon has so much hidden stuff that the game never tells you, I though the Katana was a shit weapon until I found out about the second, background charge and the Helm Breaker...
For me tanking is what I do in games so having a shield in hand feels so right. But I’m on like vol. 18 of the berserk series so destroying faces with a greatsword is really satisfying right now.
GaijinHunter just posted a Lance basic tutorial, with an advanced one coming later down the line if you want to check that out while waiting for Arekkz to get to Lance
Great stuff Arekkz. Bow is definitely high on my list to spend time with, my friend has been using it and hearing some of those perfect pierce shots landing is the most satisfying feeling!

Gotta get that claw hand. haha use your pointer finger to hold circle and middle finger for the trigger leaves your thumb free to use the stick. (In case you actually weren't sure on this) I do this all the time in soulsborne stuff to stay mobile and ready for attacks.
This has completely changed the way i play, i like the charge axe but was struggling mid game, with monsters that constantly fly out of reach. This has made it so much easier.
@@LimeTortilla It's great for Wide range builds and tripping monsters. Plus it can cut tails and you can shield bash to knock out monsters. There's more to it than you think.
I think this was exactly what I needed to get back into the bow. I was using my knowledge from previous games and had no idea how many changes had actually gone through! But with this, I know feel ALOT better knowing I was playing it inefficiently and cannot wait to give it another go! It was one of my first weapons to master in Monster Hunter!

Pyro Same. The game doesn’t teach you enough I find
Ombro This is my first entry into the series.
Welcome to a game series that get's better and better the more you learn about it! Mastering a weapon is all part of the process hope you stick with it :)
I shot off a bazelguese tail with a starter iron bow thanks to this tutorial so I definitely will be using now more often thanks
Pretty much all "super" moves are extremly satisfying in MHW gunlance, charge blade, switch axe and bow just to name my personal favourites
Spinexus gunlance bow and charge blade are my favs.
You're both right, those are also fun, but I am addicted to this stupid bow. I've been making one for each tree. I'm addicted. Send help. >_

Getting back into the game after 2.5 years. Needed a refresher... this was great. Thank you.
I just wanted to thank you for these tutorials, they really helped me a lot when I started playing this game. I'm using the bow as my main weapon now :)
One thing I would like to add after hundreds of hunts together with other players: As a bow user, be mindful of when you use the arc shoot and the dragon piercer.
I really appreciate how organized and concise your videos are! Keep up the great work!
Lol I love how your first two weapon tutorials are my favorite weapons in game. 😉
Roland Person same! He needs to do gunlance next.
Exactly what I was thinking :D
I have been using the bow for a while and I never realized that clicking r2 three times made the arrow charge full.
Not gonna lie but videos like this sometimes makes me think that I should have done more research before using it XD anyway thanks for info man good luck from Canada
Ahh thanks so much, for giving some any tips for bow, i kinda confused for the first time, but now im understand how to use it. Thanks a lot
I to am starting and I think the how is Bad ass
*HANZO MAIN*
Two other things to always keep in mind: The arc shot can chain trip teammates leaving them open to the mercy of the monster, and you need to remember your quarry's weak point. The difference in damage between weak point and non-weak point hits of the bow if massive, much higher than melee's difference. Make those shots count.
I know this is an old video but I wanted to add something, the bow is exceptionally good at interacting with traps. With how quick moving is with the bow you can easily lure a monster under a falling pillar/rock or into any other traps. Of course all weapons can do this to an extent but no other class has both the mobility, and range (besides maybe the sword/shield during some situations) to interact with these traps.
lbg
I knew I was missing something about the bow and that was doing a charged piercer shot. Thanks Arekkz for filling me in on that dude, I never knew it was there
I wish the ranged weapons had more combos.
Ammo is nice, but they could use some more trick shots.
at least the big bowgun can turn into a machine gun.
Bagel lord And a Sniper rifle
The bow reminds me of the great sword, relying on movements and powerful charged moves, the bowguns have some diverse and strong shots, melee weapons having cool combos have to be incentives for playing a more risky style.
So original hanzo in overwatch with ricochet arrows

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I've been using the light bow gun but this makes me want to try the bow as I'm new to the series. I havent been able to play in a week since I've been sick.
David Simmons Light bow and heavy bow is so good in MHW
Anthony Espinal Ive been using the light bow gun. It was the easiest weapon to pick up and play with me being new to the series. I like it. I just made one that allows me to use more ammo types than before.
Good health to you man
Harouna Diaby Thank you
David Simmons what illness u got that u can't play a game console
These tutorials are fantastic, and a massive help for someone like me trying to jump into the series. Thanks a million
Best guide by far. So much better presentation, correct information, easier to understand than other people's guide. Make other's peoples guide look bush league. Thank you, I have been trying to get into the bow but could not find a good guide.
I love how you and Gaijin have covered the 3 weapons i am most interest in first ; CB, lance and bow =)
One thing you could add in these tutorials are "useful armor skills". You did cite one here, but giving us 2-3 could be useful for newer players.
Cheers !
minizero35 i like the charge blade bow and gunlance the most.
minizero35 I like that idea. As a new player it would be really useful to hear more about armour skills
Kinda wished he did an Armor, weapon and amulet recommendation at the end of the video
CrazyBurger2 I use a special ammo boost charm and the Diablos greaves for the normal shots skill if that helps at all.
joshua dussault thanks
Ghost Geist I can't I've tried I've been around 37 hours trying to find a good build for my switch axe
Hard ta recomend a set with out knowing ur play style
Sadly they patched it
@@13nohead did they?damn
Nice to see this.
I was having trouble doing single-digit damage with the bow but whenver I asked in forums why my damage was so low, people would just gush about how overpowered the bow is when you fully optimise it with _this_ exact combination of armours and gems.
Which was _spectacularly_ unhelpful to someone who's six hours into the game and has no gems, no gem-slots and barely any armours unlocked.
Arekkz, I love your tutorials! Easy to follow and great combo tips. Helped me up my long sword damage, and looking forward to picking up the bow!
Me: Arekkz what is the most overpowered weapon?
Arekkz: The beard...........
Beard holds all the power
bald people trade hair for power
they do. just ask my 33 year old friend. he can dead lift 400 and he know martial arts.
whats even scarier is that he has tourettes.
The bow is one of the best Staggering weapon in MHW... AND I LOVE IT!!! :D

Here because of these constantly flying, stay in the air 90% of the time monsters. Great vid thanks

This is useful information that I will forget 00000000.1 nanosecond after leaving
Once again thank you so much for these guides which discuss game mechanics that are literally never mentioned in the game itself.
Just combine the two styles and incorporate dodge charges to get more value from your power coatings.
These tutorials are beyond awesome..
MHW was my 1st game in the franchise and I'm a Bow main..
But i still learned some new things.
The bow is a good solo fight weapon
The best mobility and range are what you want in solo but due to its status affects it can DEFINETLY be a great ranged support
@Anthony Oliver Parker I'm also trying to learn the bow, the only issue I have with range weapons is constantly swapping and crafting the ammunitions/arrows in middle of a fight. Too much micro managing in my opinion.
Sonic is the best just take them with before the mission, taking mats to make new coating is not worth it.
Sadly not for me, for some reason I suck at bow solos, even though I love playing with the bow.
Picked up this game on sale, just killed the mud swimming catfish with legs. I've been using bow and had no idea there were this many attacks. I've just been charging shots over and over. Your video is amazing. Thank you.
I use this video like the MHW bow’s bible; I discoverd a whole new way to play!
I was getting tired of the efficiency of the Katana, this video encourages me to use the bow and its so much more fun and effective. Great video!
wow first time I've been first to a video. The two picks for my main weapons are bow and charge blade thanks for the vids
Haha same for me! I was super hyped, when I saw, that he did the bow after the charge blade. 😊
I have watched the charge blade tutorial and this and it's slightly overwhelming just how much you can do!
i have looked into a bunch of weapons and im trying to get into the bow.
the insectglaive is hella fun and good for capturing. and for when you have a team to work up damage when
you mount the creature and topple it. leaving you room to resharpen your blade and for making sure your team
can wreck the creature.
