Breaking news from David Darcy of Mad TV Australia. Keep the stock filter for dirt riding...it REALLY works well...here's what he discovered...
"AIR FILTER FOR THE CB AFTER 6,500 K'S IN THE SIMPSON DESERT
Well John Mitchinson 's bike in Australia has been sold and I was just cleaning up and came upon the CBs air filter used on our desert trip.
Geologically speaking our country is very old and our dust particles are some of finest (smallest - not best) in the world. Recently there have been a number of instances where new models have been introduced to Australia and have stopped after low kilometres because their engine was 'dusted' that is dust had entered the cylinder and prematurely worn vital components. During our desert ride all of us, with exception of John Mitchinson changed our air filters around 4,000 ks. Not John, he kept the original airlifted the whole way and despite those extreme conditions not one bit of dust snuck past this air filter. When we returned I was talking to a Honda expert who said, the air filter design was made specifically to deal with Australian dust for their quad bikes that are used here for farming. By any standards, successfully keeping the dust out for that distance is amazing."- David Darcy MAD TV
    GREAT news! Thanks David.

Watched your video, changed my air filter, and didn't need to crack open the manual. Thanks for posting this.

Irish Rover demonstrates the fitting a K&N filter, no screws are used to secure the filter to the air box.

Thanks Juan for all your Videos on the CB 500 X... Also appreciate the views of CA.. I used to live in the Bay Area and spent trips to Tahoe. I live way over in Thailand.. and I find it funny your Air filter was made in Thailand. Currently, I am deciding on the CBR 650 R or the CB 500... Now on the CBR 300 R.. Riding is a bit different in Thailand... Cheer Mate

+Robb Santos Smaller bikes there eh? Where a 500 is considered a 'big' bike!
I think the whole bike is built in Thailand nowadays.
I also notice on my UA-cam analytics a whole bunch of viewers are watching this CB500X series from Thailand, a popular choice there I presume. Really enjoying the international interest this series has...Juan

I replaced my air filter with a K&N air filter today, and I'm happy with the results. I don't feel much of a horsepower increase, but the throttle response is better and I like that I can hear the air induction behind the gas tank now. For $44 bucks, this is a great upgrade. Plus it's nice to get rid of that ugly, heavy stocked air filter that comes with the bike.

Are you serious my friend? lol They are specifically made for recleaning after 50,000 miles (or before if you ride off road). A K&N filter getting dirty is suppose to happen. ;)

Good video. Too many "adventure" bikes require removal of shrouds and the gas tank to access the air filter! A 1-2 hour process is not realistic in the real world. The CB500 is MUCH easier!

Is the 2019 500X the same set up for the air filter?

The service intervals are actually 12,000 kilometres, not 12,000 miles. So if you're from the USA and still measure things in Freedom Units, your recommended service intervals are 8,000 miles.

Well that is a different setup isn't it. Resetting the supper clock. Now there is a great tip! I noticed the seat has started to chew on the tank. It's a common complaint with the owners of the X. And 90 bucks for an air filter from KTM? I'm not sure KTM deserves a purchase from me. That's just down right crooked imho.

Another great vid. Thanks. You're the best. Question... It appears that you ride your 500X a lot. What is your overall assessment? Longest ride? Seat comfortable for long rides? Is it smoother and more comfortable on lengthy sections of paved road? Can it do 90% of what your KTM can do off road? I'm seriously considering one of these as I can't afford $10K for a KTM or Husky at the moment, plus I expect to do a lot of pavement riding for a year or two around the Southwest. Then, I will get more down and dirty in off-road mode. I have a 2014 (new) in my sights for $4,600 OTD. I'll pay the $275 state tax when I get it to my state. I can gradually add the Rally Raid components as I can afford them to make it more off-road worthy. Do you think that's a good price, or should I keep shopping?

    • @blancolirio
      @blancolirio  9 років тому +1

Stephen Denlinger Yes, That's a GREAT price (I paid that much for a used one here in CA.)...get it now, and upgrade as you can afford to. Consider financing the bike now so you can save for the kit. Start with the RRP bash plate and go from there. This will allow u time to really assess the bike. Take some long trips in stock form.
What is your overall assessment?- Great Bike for the money! The RRP Stage 3 CB500X Adventure is the bike Honda should have built, and may very well swing the marketplace in favor of middleweight adventure bikes.
Longest ride? 300 miles in one day...mostly dirt roads. could easily do more...
Seat comfortable for long rides? -Yes, it does get a little warm and could 'breath' better. But I'm not looking to change it.
Is it smoother and more comfortable on lengthy sections of paved road? Waaay better than any single thumper adv bike. You can ride all day comfortably on pavement with a proper windscreen.
Can it do 90% of what your KTM can do off road? -KTM 690? Yes (with RRP Stage 3 conversion), but not as fast off road. The suspension is not nearly as stiff as the KTM 690. Juan.

Hi Juan, Great videos including this one. Have you done anything new to your CB500x that will post soon? Overall how's it working for you since completing the stage 3 RR upgrades? I'm looking at ADV bikes and 500 are about the size I want. Thank you!

I have a 2021 cb 500x, and noticed after a ride today I have some oil running down the outside of the air box, underneath the throttle bodies. Do you have any idea what might cause this? The bike was dropped on its side the previous ride a few weeks back.

@@edgarbleikur1929 ??? Yeaaa I highly doubt that. No one buys a motorbike and puts not even 1ks a year average on it. Otherwise what's the point of owning one. and if he was the type like these alleged bikers who never ride and just keep polishing them in a garage just for show, even THOSE guys put more ks on their bikes than that. Go blow that baloney elsewhere
