The Ford Explorer debuted way back in 1991 and has successfully surfed the SUV wave ever since. Consumers have continually been drawn to its balanced offerings of comfort, utility, space and capability, and the same should hold true for 2006. At first glance, the upgrades this year don't seem overly dramatic. The Explorer still looks like an Explorer, still seats five to seven people, still has V6 or V8 power (you were expecting a V12?) and still motors about with two- or four-wheel drive. And it still has some low-rent interior plastics, too. But the improvements to the ride quality are welcome, as are the new safety features. The Explorer has been the best-selling SUV for 15 straight years, and we foresee no reason why it shouldn't be 16 for 2006.

i have a '96 Explorer XLT with a 5.0L V8 and i love it!
I have the old Ford Explorer :), it drivers really really well.
I like the eddie bauer edition of the 2006-2009 explorer. My uncle has this royla blue eddie bauer 07 FE...it's amazing!!
The explorer isn't much of an explorer anymore ever since it went to irs, I would take a 1st or 2nd gen over the newer ones any day. I just don't see it roughing it out there like the older ones can.
funny. I cant remember the last time i needed a 6.1 liter v8 in my sport utility vehicle that i use to go into the mountains to snowboard, go back and forth to school too, and camping.

i love the explorer, but i like the mercury mountaineer better!
I love this suv so far, I've out 4x4 a Jeep Liberty and Wranglers.. But its the driver more then anything...

That guy is bias towards Ford! That's honestly the best Ford Explorer ever made! Even the plastic are made with quality. I'll choose this truck over a Toy. 4Runner or, Nissan Pathfinder anyday! This guy dosen't know what he's talking about! Smh..

mountaineer is lexury , ford is super duty , mercury is cool too .
i hav a 2006 eddie bauer, i lov it just the tan intr is so hard to keep clean (armrest) and its not o so great on gas (15-16mpg) but i sure lov it esps the radio its pritty good for fac

Well..., I can agree with you on Acura's and, BMW's interior not being all that...but, I beg to differ on Lexus and, Infiniti. ;-)
Sounds like you should have gone with a King Ranch Expedition, if this is small and cheap feeling
look at the alfa romeo 159, the mercedes e class, the entire audi/jaguar range, and then tell me the plastics on this ford are on par with them.

buy one used,in canada ive seen the 07 eddie bauer version for $24,000
u right , but i pulled out a carppy germen X5 from mud with explorer , as for range rover , id say the new name should be "MAHRAJA rover , cause its belongs to TATA .

this explorer can up to 550 miles from full to empty gas a tank
Yes I have the same one it is a gas saver and the heat gets really hot, good for winter, going to look at a 06 today

I drive an Alfa 166 yet I was abused the other day by some pompous woman in a car park for driving a "big car" when i didn't need to. Can you guess what she was driving? thats right! a crappy small "smart car"
Not sure if you have the smart car in the US but its 600cc and does about 75mpg. Aweful little thing.

Well..., the Ford could give them a run for their money because, all of those car's plastics are not high quality. A lot of people just over look them because of their name brand.

1 - NO two amber yellow taillights on the rear for turning sign..
2 - WRONG gas in hole on the right side and left driver..

Its a large SUV, but it could've done without the third row seats. It feels cheap inside, the doors are light and not quality. It feels small inside. I don't really like it. I have a 2010 Ford F-150 and that is an AMAZING vehicle. FAR better than this.
SUVS have a use, but as they said it's a niche market. It's good, and only good, for a person that has a large family, or a company that needs to transport lots of employees, and needs to haul a oayload with their vehicle as well. Unfortunately, most people who drive these have one or two (sometimes none) kids and a big ego because they want to feel big and powerful driving a fucking mammoth vehicle.
