I bought a brand new one in 2008 , it has a v8 engine and we never had a problem, great towing, and the gas mileage is actually better than what they list it as, we love ours and still own today in 2015

07 model had many issues resolved. So if you are looking for an Explorer, go for either 05 or 07. skip the 06.

some people look at the 06-10 and see them as a restyled explorer of the 02-05 in which that maybe true on the outside since the body of the suv was basically a carry over with updates to the front and rear, but that's where it ends. the frame under the explorer in this gen is completely new barrowing the f150's cross welded frame design making the frame a lot stiffer than in the last gen explorers which gave it a better ride off road, better towing on road and better safety in a frontal crash and that's that major diff between the 06-10 explorers and 02-05 explorers.

I owned 2007 v8 used one, it had poor reliability, uncomfortable seats, poor fuel economy, but I liked its stable ride at corners and curves

russelpetersify The 2006 V8 LTD was very reliable for my family, whilst our current 2006 base model V6 has basically been rebuilt after the last owner treated it like trash. Was yours used or new?

Why don't they tell you the V-6 timing chains need replaced at about 100,000 miels and the motor has to be pulled.
