Such a supportive and affirming singing teacher. No BS, and willing to pass on all of her own experience and talent. Absolutely world class.

Constructive criticism like this is so so damn important.
And a BEAUTIFUL voice! ❤

@@lakeofknees why thank you!!! That means a lot!
Contraltos are so rare. It’s to bad this young lady isn’t an opera singer. We could certainly use her rich tone there!
Omg i hope her voice will be deeper and end up being a contralto or dramatic mezzo but omg i love both. I like mezzo's tone because it is rich and round also contralto's tone because its deep and velvet. But anyways lets spread opera 💜💜💜
She isn't a contralto. Maybe mezzo soprano.
@@nguyenduonganhminh agreed
She sings beautifully but she’s certainly not a contralto my dude. She loses a lot of volume when she sings the lower parts of the song. But once again, sounds beautiful.
Hey I have a question what am I I sing in about f3 as lowest and highest is about b4
It’s hard to be an alto. You just get constantly get out into the background when the sopranos are just belting their hearts out. And many artists are mostly sopranos, so it’s hard to find my musical voice when everyone else around me is singing soprano. So this is amazing to see altos being noticed.
I'm a mezzo but I can't rlly go too high or too low so I literally can't sing anything lmao
@@sailorboluda4966 same :(
Same thing with baritones
@@sailorboluda4966 girrrrrrl SAME!
I don't know my voice type but I'm in the alto section in choir and I am SO tired of singing the flat tune while the sopranos and tenors go off 😴
I love how she corrects, but then praises! What fun passion!!
NickieB a truly gifted teacher!
That's actually a teaching technique. You give a critic but leave them on a positive note so they dont feel like your dogging them (I just wish more teachers used it like this amazing vocal coach)
She's a very good student to she's teaching her how to feel when she sings oh I feel when I say I've gotten standing ovation
She's guiding and praising and the student is learning and having fun.
I also love how she explains each correction so it gives more meaning and it’s easier to comprehend why she’s correcting
We all know she’s an amazing vocal coach, but can we talk about her own vocals??! Ma’am. You out here sangin!
😃 AWWW Thanks so much baby!! ❤️
Aye Dae Dae Thank you!!!... 👍☝️😊😀👏🏻👏🏻 Yes indeed her voice is absolutely amazing she has talent and she seems like such a passionate teacher I watched one video where she cried listening to one of her students!!!! Love her
I KNOW RIGHT? she sounds like someone who would sing at like a church or in a professional choir it’s so pretyy
Cheryl Porter Vocal Coach you are so gifted, and so passionate about what you do.
Amazing!
she looks so damn relaxed while hitting those notes... how even??? I have to try so hard and still sound like a dying cow
Being relaxed actually helps a lot to hit most notes
at least to me
My teacher says it's all about proper placement of resonance in your face. And this belting sound needs more air support.
Trying too hard and straining can make you sound bad, you need to relax your body while having proper posture to make sure you get enough air.
The more relaxed your muscles are, and the less you try to control your sound, the easier it is :)
@@zafi8993 True! When you try super hard it’s kinda unnatural

Yo she sang so effortlessly, it just looks like she's speaking.
Right? But that's how it's supposed to be. Smooth and gentle with your vocal cords and let air do it's job. When we see singers making painful faces it's all for performance.
Mila Cruz Well, if it’s an emotional song or moment, you probably still make those faces because you also need to FEEL the song. The technical stability should already absolutely be there, but it doesn’t mean much if you are not vulnerable to what’s coming out of your mouth.

To be honest, I love singers with deep voices more than singers with high voices. A child singer called Angelina Jordan, who has a deep voice, is my idol.
Fr I hate mines when singing
Why do I feel like a hug from Cheryl Porter could cure anything? I can't believe how much beautiful energy oozes out of this woman. Also, this girl is AMAZING.
Ok as someone with a low range I really appreciate a vocal coach embracing it, because the expectation these days for low-singing girls is to only stay in the higher range
Shiokaze-chan same!
Same here! I’m in the baritone-lore baritone range and don’t want to be embarrassed do I’m glad to see this girl
@@lauriep2018 omg ive been singing tenor for a about a year now and its so much more fun than alto imo
This is basically what my choir teacher is doing, and even though I comfortably sing the tenor line in all of our songs, I am forced to sing soprano and at best alto because “no girls are allowed to be tenors”

god she has such a rich voice. also being a 14 year old alto, this is so inspiring!!
Alto is not a voice type. It’s a choral part. She sounds more like a mezzo anyways. Contraltos have quite a bit richer and lower voices than this.

Ive lost track of how many times I've seen this girl and I can't get tired of listening to her full, soulful voice! So rare to find such a voice. Miss Cheryl, you are MAGIC 🥰
She sounds better than most modern singers and she ain't even using any auto-tune. That's talent right there.
For sure, her good technique sounds beautiful but also keeps her in tune
Hey fellow smiley xD
Speaking a little off topic, the autotune is made for people like her, who have a trained voice, when it comes to professionally recording her voice she can get tired xd
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a whole cover so bad before. Wow. She’s amazing
Sarah Hodge Who is she?
ua-cam.com/video/8ZhjXnkwirM/v-deo.html this is her video!
Damn her voice is so beautiful! It’s a mixing how deep it is yet she can still hit higher notes so beautifully. How talented
Not every woman is a soprano! Deep, rich, full tones can be exquisitely beautiful AND feminine
If more coaches were like this then I wouldn’t be getting yelled at for singing ”too low” all the time. I have a naturally low voice but I’ve always been forced into soprano parts which is honestly not that fun for me because I’m having to force myself to go higher all the time.
Why do they put you in soprano parts??? I hope u get a coach that helps u embrace ur lower range.
Same
I mean I can go pretty high but I don't like it, I still keep getting high soprano parts even though I told my teacher I don't like it it's ridiculous
I feel you, i used to have a coach tell me i have a low voice but told me it doesnt fit me, i wanted to beat her up, i have a normal low voice and im an alto 2, my second coach accepted that i have a low voice and finally gave me pieces i can sing without going soprano
@@lemonbee3053 well that's probably because ur actually able to sing those notes and it sounds better to them than it does to u. they also ALMOST CERTAINLY are doing that to help u improve that area of ur voice
Same. Before this whole pandemic thing, I was forced to sing way out of my voice range in choir. It hurt, yet my teacher told me to just "deal with it." It's ironic cause she would always say, "if it gets to the point where it physically hurts, drop down to a lower part," but whenever I do, she yells at me. She's a high school choir teacher. That's why I've decided to just finally drop out. Choir used to be my favorite until my old teacher decided to go and teach the elementary. She was so nice and accepted everyone's vocal range, and always make sure we were comfortable with our parts.
Lovely black woman: calls me baby
Me: turns into baby Yoda

Great lesson that she taught to her: when we sing we aren't just singing notes and riffs to impress people, we're telling a story, a narrative. It's fundamental for singers to know where to use some Technics and when you shouldn't use them. Singing it's not about high notes and vibrato and a lot of riffs just to impress people, it's about using this techniques and emotions to tell a story with your heart ❤️
Exactly!! I swear the next time I hear a white choir sing a spiritual sped up and happy I’m walking out! They should never be faster than you can walk in chains.
Your right human.
Gotdamn it this made me fall in love with the sound on a whole deeper meaning. Kudos.

Wow, I wanted to hear more singing from this girl, her voice is so smooth and beautiful! 🎶
I've loved singing my entire life but I'm absolutely shit at it.... this coach gives me hope (Also, this girl's voice is incredible)
I have a deeper / low range and I’ve always been so insecure that I sound “manly” singing, but this girl is opening my eyes a lil. 💙
it’s different when you hear someone else killin it. we’re our own worst critics.
Molly Wells I also have the low voice (lower than hers even) and in classical that I was trained in, I can’t hardly make the women’s parts. Tenor for me.. just embrace what you’ve got.
Just run with it. It makes you unique
Low female voices are so much more interesting than the high ones that just come off as squeaky too me.
I have a low range too, don't worry. It's actually kinda funny when all the girls around me stare at me because I'm the only one who can hit the notes. Embrace it. You're unique and different from all of the sopranos.
Listen to Toni Braxton
I'd like to hear the vocal coach sing a complete song. She's incredible
She had albums. She is amazing
Knowing choir politics, I really hope she gets the due she deserves in the Altos section. Way too many people are the “stars” of choir sections without this kind of amazing vocal performance and training.
I love the music arrangement, great coach great singer
1:10 - 1:33 is a lesson all singers need to hear. I call it the Church Rule. Save the flare for the second verse/chorus repeat. TV talent shows are bad about it, and no one says a word usually.
Truth!
wait low voice is a thing for girls. i just thought i wasnt meant to sing. this was eye opening
Honey, Low voice is SEXIER that high voice, It just sounds so good on girls.
Jasmine Fox you’re so right especially ones that have a masculine like tone like pink or nano it just makes me cry tears of joy 😊
what!? if you like to sing, do it. Doesn't matter if your voice is low high or in between or what tone it is. There are lots of women that sing in contralto. Look up famous singers with a contralto range 😁
sherry zarzuela toni braxton is the best example !! It’s definitely a thing
It's important to note that people have a natural range. Don't try to force singing low if it's not comfortable, you'll damage your voice.
You can extend your range a bit but it takes careful practice
This person is going to be an incredible singer wowww god is in this child !

I'd encourage you to join b/c choir is so much more than what you sing with the group. Me and a few friends used to sing our own stuff backstage in our concerts, I'd get the low notes and my barritone friend would hit those hella high notes like a queen. I miss him, he was like my opposite, anyway, you'll find your group & y'all's ain't gotta sing according to a vocal type when ur just riffing off of eachother.
Our honours choir had something called "improv circles" where one person would start with a short repeating riff and everyone would find something that fit with it, and nobody would sing their assigned type
I'm an alto 2 and the best feeling is when they give us an SSAA song and we get into the lowww notes like yesss
Our teacher calls us Basses when we do that and it's the best feeling
I talked a lot here. Ur comment hit me hard cuz in my childhood choir, they would kick out kids who's voices got too low. Usually it was all the boys, but my voice dropped before any of my dude friends. No clue why I couldn't just stay, but I still hung backstage and riffed with em, and I was back the next year when I trained up my high end. I didn't join our choirs until Junior year cause I thought I'd be kicked out for singing too low, but man that's not even what it's about.
Find ur place, find ur people ♥️
