Thank you for this. I used to be a mezzo soprano with a powerful voice but my vocal chords were injured by a situation much like Robert Kennedy Jr. I could not sing a note for years because of the pain it caused. Now nearly 20 years later my voice is returning except I now sing tenor and even bass. It'll never be what it was but this video made me feel so much better about having such a low range as a female.
Woah mad respect to this woman! I want to be able to sing this low someday, but I don't think it's possible. The lowest note I've ever hit as a 16 y/o female tenor is a B2 and I've only done it once very briefly.

Actually she accidentally changed pitch, so she actually sang as low as a C#2 Thats even more impressive
72.5 Hz is closer to a D2
It is a bit closer to D based on 72.5 hertz but the note she sang before right before she stopped probably did not register as fast in the machine. She still hit a C#2 but just a really tiny bit sharp. Hope that helps :)

Thats why only trained singers can do these, mostly.
Just to add to what wWaidi said, a vocal “note” is one sung with your true vocal folds. “Notes” sung using vocal fry or growl techniques can’t classify as notes but more as frequencies due to the fact that they use the false vocal chords
Notes are pitched and can be written as paper as a certain note, sounds are just noises you can make. They may have a note, but you aren’t singing it

@@spliter88 vocal training doesn't do much for your natural voice (chest voice, head voice, etc.). It might expand your range by a few notes but that's it. Vocal training can teach you cool techniques like vocal fry, growling (which you can probably do already) and subharmonic singing. And tbh, your voice is deep, but not that deep for a bass, this is as low as the average bass goes, the guy which you replied to is bullshiting, D2 is definitely not low for a bass.

And the size only affects the notes you can reach. Girls won't be able to reach a b0, but high first octave is definitely in reach with practice.
@@94e88 actually, this woman could produce a B0 using a 2nd or 3rd subharmonic, or ingressive phonation. she might be able to produce the pitch using fry or growl as well, not as sure. her modal voice sounds like it can go lower than D2, needs a decent warm up. in terms of usable modal range, I wouldn't put her any lower than C#3, which is already a ridiculous note for a woman to have.

Deep Bass (male) C#2. Amazing and rather legitimate. The mechanism seems similar to the male bass octavist, commonly found in Russian choral groups. They produce legitimate (scary) tones down to around a fifth lower than what this woman did. Something "weird" happens in the Helen's mechanism around an octave higher (C#3) that allows the deep extension that is neither modal nor vocal fry. It happens in octavists around bass G2 or F2, and allows them to sing down to A1 at least, and sometimes G1 or F1. Lower than that tends to turn into total vocal fry, which is a vocal effect, not true singing. Hurray for Helen!

That was almost like a C#2 actually. Wow, that’s really cool! My lowest note so far is a very weak F2 but I don’t know if I’ll ever reach lower than that.

do you feel better if I tell you I can only sing a F3(? I‘m not sure on the number, but the one under middle c) if I‘m lucky, and have maybe touched an E really early in the morning.
Try subharmonics. I'm a guy who's voice can naturally go down to an A1 or a B1, A#1 fairly consistently not always but if you watch tutorials on how to do subharmonics you could go down to 1st octave notes. After practicing enough I managed to hit D1's and C1's although E1 was my strongest.

i genuinely can’t tell you how recognised and validated i feel right now, as the lowest-voiced person in my singing class 🥺🥺🥺
I have a low voice and I used to sing. It was always amazing how when I would warm up with singers who sang at a higher range, they would struggle as we dropped notes. I can hit high notes too - I was classified as a type of mezzo singer. I’m curious if I can hit these low notes.

@Pol Pot there is something called a trained ear. Tuners are unreliable and relative pitch is much more comsistent. Tuners are affected by everything, including the compression, while your ears are not. I've taken singing lessons and studied the voice for quite a few years now. I do all excersises on key despite never using a piano note as a source.
