Excellent video I just got a 4D - and I am learning it as fast as I can from a baseline of stills photography. I could not bare going half measures hybrid with a gimbal and all that it would entail. My stills cameras can do 4k B roll if needed, but for the most part stick to what they are very good at, stills. I have made videos professionally over the years but as a producer not a camera op. A 4D is a no brainer for someone such as me, you spelled it out loud and clear in your video, so I won't repeat it. I will say how refreshing it is to hear someone such as yourself overturn the received wisdom from many other professional filmmakers on youtube, who claim that it can't be your only camera, as if they know some special secret that you or I don't. The secret is... yes it can!! This camera scares those people, they really don't want people like me buying and using one, imagine ... unimpeded by the complexities of byzantine gimbal camera rigs, we will just get on making movies. So thank you, I am now off to watch your other relevant material. ps. sound seems to be less easy with the 4D ... I have wireless DJI mics, and good quality shotgun mic, but where do I mount a shotgun mic where it won't get in the way of the gimbal? That is this week's 4D challenge!
Well done Dane ! DJI is slow on giving clients all this info . You are becoming a spokesperson to others that have bought the 4D , but have many questions!
Best ronin 4d review video I’ve seen in youtube so far. I started to watch ronin 4d video 3days ago and this video made me definitely buy ronin 4d. 👍👍 Feels like it would be better choice than bringing my both fx3 gimbal rig and handheld rig to set. But having just ronin 4d with wireless monitor 🔥🔥
Does e arch lens have the camera mount attachment needed to work? I see the E and M as aftermarket and based on their compatibility list I see those needed in order to use any non zen use lens. Thanks for the help
I just got a 4D and have found several serious problems. It has a big rolling shutter problem. Are you recording in 4K to reduce its rolling shutter? 6K is not usable. When using tracking if one person walks in front of another person the tracking switches to the front most person, even if you don't want it to switch. This makes it difficult to shoot video on an active street scene. If you are not using tracking but using auto focus the focus will randomly jump from person to person in a group which normally ruins the shot. Any suggestions? It is great if you only have one person on camera.
Thank you for your review of this camera. There was one important detail missing, which for me, and in particular, some of my clients, could actually make or break getting a contract. Resolution ! Your $10K USD ? quote was based on the Ronan 4D sensor @ 6K and not at all with the 8K sensor. Some clients specifically want 8K camera acquisition. In Canada, the difference between the extra 2K's is over $6,000.00 CAD ! 😳This doesn't include any DL lenses or the nifty external remote camera control bright screen accessory. Your rather low ball $10K quote now becomes $20,000.00 CAD plus ! 👀🙏 Now we're into a chunk of change 👀
@@kilikdudley Nor have I ever delivered a project to a client in anything over 4K, but I have had clients specifically ask me if I'm shooting in 8K. Many clients are sophisticated enough to understand high resolution image acquisition equals better looking delivery of product once downsampled.
I love using the Peak Design Travel Tripod. It's packs light, yet can handle the weight of the R4D no problem. And since the gimbal is built-in, you don't need to have a fancy tripod head either.
@@danskerdane I just got the tripod. It's a bit unnerving placing the Ronin 4D on such a tiny tripod mount but it is surprisingly stable. Thanks for the heads-up.
I've had mine for a few months and it's the best camera I've owned in my career

Great review man, love the synth wave-style music 🙂
This review is sooo solid

What lens do you use for Ronin4D?
Thanks for this.

I’ve never had a client request delivery over 4k. Arri’s shoot only 4k, sony venice 6k

What tripod do your recommend for the Ronin 4D specifically for travel?
