You idiot, India's national animal is only Tiger. Not Royal Bengal.
Btw the bear is not realy most favorite Russian animal. In Bylinas, the old epic poems, which existed among peasants (so its not some educated monk invention), Russian heroes usually were compared with birds of prey mostly with falcons. Also many people think that symbol of Rurikid dynasty is a schematic representation of hunting bird of prey/falcon. Also surname Sokolov ("sokol" = "falcon" in Russian) is one of the most common Russian surname, its in the first ten. The second most common "animal" surname is Volkov ("volk" = "wolf"), its in the second ten. And the surname Medvedev ("medved" = "bear") is on the 50th place or something. So the bear was not very popular, people not so often got such nicknames/future surnames.

Swans are beautiful but definately not gentle. They are bad tempered and sometimes aggressive.
Yeah, a lot of stories of them attacking and driving other animals and humans off. And the sound they make when angry is more a kind to a snake hissing.

I like the irony that half of Europe and the US has adopted the eagle because they took inspiration from the Roman Empire, while Italy chose the animal that is actually linked with the birth of Rome (and therefore started everything).
Don't forget the USA bald eagle
You know, we tend to forget it but back in the past nearly every aspect of the "institutional life" of an European country (or countries that were strong-linked with them) came from the Roman Empire. Even in the case of countries that had never seen a Roman Legion on their land. The Roman Empire has left such a lot of things to Europe and Mediterranean area that everyone wanted to have something in common with them.
Just some quick example:
In medieval times the "Roman Law" (let me use this incorrect term) was adopted even in "old" Poland and Scandinavia and Germany.
The Russian word "Tzar" and the German "Kaiser" (emperor) came from Ceasar, because Roman Emperors where generically called in this way.
When Franks occupied the ancient Gaul (now France), their Kings tried to demonstrate that the common ancestor of the entire Frankish people were a Trojan named Francione (I don't know is name in English). And this was due to the fact that the Romans called another Trojan warrior (Enea) as their ancestor.
When Carl the Great was crowned by the Pope, he was called "Emperor of the Romans".
Sorry for bad English
The eagle was important because the romans copied the greek god Zeus, who is associated with eagles. So while the wolf is arguable a more original symbol of Rome, the eagle was appropriated from the greek culture (as most of the gods and other cultural aspects).
So ultimately Germany and the States have the eagle as a symbol because SOMEBODY had to pick up that liver every day.

Zoinks Scoob Mexico saw itself as a continuation of the Aztecs as the native people existed in the 1800s as they still do today. So they took the name the Aztecs called themselves, which was Mexica and translated it into Spanish Mexicanos and took the pictograph name of Tenochtitlan (eagle, snake on a cactus), which was renamed Mexico City during the Spanish conquest. The eagle has a legendary history in Mexico I don’t know what you mean when you say its not original.
@Zoinks Scoob before the European arrival the Aztecs classified their military commanders as jaguar warrior or eagle warrior, so the symbol was there way before the existence of such thing as a national animal

1:09 I think what makes the Mexican eagle unique compared to all other national eagle emblems, is the insignia was created 100% independently from the Roman eagle, in which almost all other nations are based off of.
Yeah, well, It comes from a Legend
Although that’s true. During the Mexican empire era, the eagle resembled those of European nation, to allude the Roman Empire eagle. Thankfully it didn’t last. The contemporary design is more respectful to traditional depictions in Aztec codex
Poland's eagle also doesn't refer to the roman eagle
It was even the symbol of the Aztec Empire, the triple allianca
The national animal of Mexico 🇲🇽 is the golden eagle that is present in the national shield, and its origin dates back to the Aztec Empire.
(The Mexican Eagle 🦅 is older than the symbol of the United States).
The god Huitzilopochtli, in an oracle, had ordered the Aztecs to establish their capital city in a place where they saw an eagle on a prickly pear devouring a snake.
They did so.
The history of the eagle and the serpent dates back to the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan (present-day Mexico City) around 1325.

Actually, Italy's national animal is the calf/cow, as the ancient pre Roman settlers were worshippers of that animal. In fact their name, Vitali, comes from the Italian word "vitello" (calf). The venetian Republic also used the lion as a symbol, which is still present in Veneto's flag
@aghori sadhu the entire world worshipped cows or some other domestic cattle. In fact it was so common, the Greek name for earth - gaia actually means cow. There have been some suggestions that Canada should adopt the polar bear in addition to the beaver, with the beaver reflecting our history and industry while the polar bear represents strength and our embracing our cold climate. It's never really gone beyond people floating the idea though. The polar bear, common loon, caribou and beaver are all on our coinage (along with a historical sailing vessel on one coin).
@Mr. Al While that's a wild oversimplification (the mix of nationalities you describe was accurate around 200 years ago - most Canadians today have more diverse roots), we do tend to be quite open to the Nordic approach to doing things but it has been a parallel development of similar values for the most part (something about the quirks of our colonial experience). Quebecers in particular have been prone to looking at Scandinavian ideas since we swung left and irreligious in the past 60 years (300-400 years of cold weather and two centuries of the Brits rubbing off on us gave us a different temperament than the French - we're more keep calm and enjoy life, less pitchfork and guillotine). 😆
At the end of the day, we're fond of the Nordic countries. For most of us, it isn't due to any deep knowledge of Nordic culture but more that your countries seem very sensible to a Canadian mindset (more than our British, French and American cousins). From our perspective, you guys are the Europeans with the most "Canadian" approach to life. 😉. The British and French are too dramatic, even if they are the colonial powers from our past. As for our neighbours down south, they're nothing but drama these days. We like quiet and calm.
I always thought the Mexican Flag looked pretty cool with the Eagle eating the snake. I always got a "willingness to fight" vibe from it. They really struck gold designing it.

Pronounced “ee thr-eye gah-ch” (German ch) (th as in the), also I’ve heard that the Romans compared the Gauls to a rooster not because they were “chicken” in the modern saying, but because the literal opposite, as they thought the Gauls where loud and rowdy like a rooster.
Celt of Canaan Esurix if by gah u mean go with a slight emphasis on the o then u are correct
BenTentacionVEVO I guess you could say it’s like an unstressed russian o
What are you trying to pronounce? :D
"chicken in the modern saying" - I believe you meant "the word chicken as understood in English".
I can't watch this seriously with the Sam O' Nella music constantly playing in the background
"Hey kids, did you know that some countries have some really weird and fancy animals as their national symbols?"
Ok, that put a strong image onto my mind and I won’t be able to get rid of it for a while.
Thanks
I’m Brazilian and I didn’t know the Jaguar was the symbol chosen here! Very interesting :)

5:56 Fun fact: The moose has the nickname "King of the forest" in Swedish because their antlers are like a crown.
Makes more sense than a lion being king of all animals.

@Finn Spooner Antarctica doesn't have any country for a national animal. But if did, we all know what it would be. The mighty Emperor Penguin.
thanks for saving me my time
Fun fact:during the old ages all the way to the rule of Ivan the Terrible, unicorn was a symbol of Russia. This creature was depicted on coins and other national signs. Actually nowadays the symbol of Russia is rather two-headed eagle, which, along with the unicorn, was adopted from the Bisantium Empire after its collapse. The two-headed eagle is still present on coins and is actually an official national symbol along with the flag
Such info ill sub roght now

Unicorns do exist in Scotland. It's just unfortunate that there's no virgins here so we can't get near them 😂
