I enjoy that your riding videos incorporate a variety of terrain and road conditions. One never knows what to expect when you two saddle up.
I'm honestly surprised more people don't bike there. A gravel bike or even a XC/hard tail mountain bike seem perfect.
Also if y’all are headed west, Bonelli in San dimas has a lot of nice trails. And if you like to under bike a little more, Marshall canyon is a blast!
Marshall is killer on a singlespeed!

There's a good reason why all of the locals ride fat bikes. The gravel roads turn into deep sand without warning!
BTW... Thank you for keeping to the roads. Bicycles are absolutely prohibited on the hiking/walking trails!

If you want to ride Joshua Tree, i highly recommend 2.8 wide tires min. The best mountain bike trails in So Cal are in Joshua Tree, section 6 off park and onaga - experienced riders only.
You inspired us to go ride Joshua Tree NP for the first time. Rode Geology Tour and Queens Mines roads. I think the recent rain really helped Geology Tour Road not be a slog of a climb. The highlight for me was off the bike and hiking Hidden Valley.
Great overview of what is possible in Joshua Tree NP. There are some less passable routes but as Laura said, you had the best opening with the light rain on the hours before. Three days before I saw a bird in Death Valley NP Dec 2016, and it was a Logger Head Shrike.

Tried most of the dirt roads in JT and you picked the best; rest are sand pits. Paved roads tend to be the best alternative as Park speed limits for cars are kept low.
The alt bar setup looks so kuch more comfortable. And it's actually an alpha masculine move to be comfortable with the "punky brewster" grips, that look stylish, yet probably feel great.
Love that loop! There are def some times of the year that you'd need fatter tires though! Lots of soft sand!

Did this ride last Sunday, and that one way section rips. Maybe the nicest section of sand I've ever ridden a bike on.
Great stuff as usual. We tried on our 20 inch wheel folding bikes and the sand got a little deep at times. Great bike packing spots at Ryan Campground for sure!-BG

I got to ride Me Tree a few years ago on my Crust Romeo. I had some 26" Super Yummys but I think I was riding with the pressure too high. I need to go back with tires that have a wider knob spacing and lower pressures. Thanks for the cid!

In all seriousness, you must listen to the Desert Oracle show Friday evenings at 10 pm (it’s in podcast format also.) when in JT. So much campfire story time an weird high desert tales. You guys are the BEST! I love all of your videos, but, it would be helpful if you provided just a little more data in your narration. In this case, how short was short in terms of ride length?
Pretty day for a ride! Any plans for any upcoming coffee shop, cool bike shop, and or fly fishing episodes?
Those trails are also open to cars but they aren't as busy as the asphalt roads.
FYI, the court case allowing small “commercial” content creation in NP’s without a permit was overturned on appeal late last year, just a heads up. I have not heard if the NPS is enforcing it or not.
I also dislike that our taxpayer-funded National Parks often charge entrance fees.
Too bad NPS doesn’t get that GCN $$$ like DoD, then they wouldn’t have to make us pay to play.
@@donhuber9131 obviously not fully funded by our taxes. Would you rather pay higher taxes, park entrance fees, or cut NPS services? Pick one.

@@michaelmann6482 None of the above. Most states do not charge admission to their parks. Our country is wealthy enough to not have to make visiting a National Park a luxury...sort of like health care.

How many "backcountry" miles can you get out there? Is there a map you'd recommend? I'd like to put together about 100 miles of dirt/gravel, I wouldn't mind going outside the park if it made sense to link things together. Thanks!

Dave -- Joshua Tree is on the Southern edge of the Mojave Desert in Southern California, a _beautiful_ part of the world. I have family in Ridgecrest, CA, a couple hours away & we went there a few times when I was growing up.
Does anyone make Joshua specific tires???

I plan on doing this ride within the next month or 2 with my puppy. How dog friendly is it?
Not so much... I used to climb in JT a lot but then got my dog and dogs are not allowed on trails. your only choice to walk the dog is on the dirt roads. The Park is very busy now and there are always cars passing so not the best but okay for a first time visit. It is a very fragile ecosystem so I understand why dogs aren't allowed on trails but its still a bummer.
