In this video we take you along with us for a treat and show you what Java is like when we leave her at home. When we are used to communicate through different modes we are bound to run into some misunderstandings. Here are somethings that we've learned from each other along the way.

Java sulking was more adorable than it should be.
hahaha she's such a sweetheart, it's hard for us to ever leave to go do errands because she pulls this kind of stuff 😂
@@SignDuoChannel she knows it. 😅
Java's sulking reminds me of when cats pretend to ignore their humans when they don't want to do something, lol.
Arguments over misunderstandings are typical. It's really great that you two are working through these issues. Good, clear communications are (in my humble opinion) key to successful, happy and lifelong relationships. It took me a while to understand that clear communication is the key to a successful relationship.
I think a lot of hearing people tend to forget how important the tone of your face conveys your words as well. This video is a good reminder how it helps with clearer communication.
P.S. Java is as cute as ever.
So true. I’m an introvert and not a big talker, but I use facial expressions and nonverbal communication a lotttt when I don’t feel like talking lol
I totally agree! Towards the beginning of my relationship with my boyfriend we had a lot of misunderstandings because of tone of voice or wording. We still have some misunderstandings now and then but it isn't like when we first started dating
Guilty
Its weird, I cant sign or understand ASL, but I can CLEARLY see how he has influenced not only the way you sign, but your expressions as well when you sign.
Java is so cute, that pup’s facial expressions are easier to read than some humans! One of my dogs sulks whenever I am about to leave, she especially likes to lay on my work shoes. 🙄 Makes me feel guilty every time!
Same with my dog!
My dog Leo will just lay on top of me if he knows it's time for me to go somewhere or to do something at my desk. He can also be pretty sassy with some grunting and huffing too
awww that's way too adorable!
OMG the Swedish national anthem in the beginning 😂😂 loved it but a bit surprising 🥰🇸🇪
So not just me that reacted to that 😝
The melody of the Swedish national anthem as background music in the beginning? Interesting choice 😂
Same lol
I noticed it, and I'm not even Swedish!
hahaha wow! I was thinking I liked it...
This was helpful and still funny. The music change from Java's hilarious "attitude" antics to just the duo chilling out on the town - conveyed the mood perfectly. Great choices.
I'm glad my edits were good and that you enjoyed it!
@@SignDuoChannel This is true of all your videos. If you ever make a "Chillin' with Ellen" playlist, I'd be all over it. 😄
@@ChipsandWontonfeathers OHOHO good one!
I can imagine bickering by just not looking at the other person so you can't see them talk
Music at 1:30 mark sounds like the Swedish national anthem
Oh man I iwas so involved in watching and trying to learn and keep up with the signs that when Ellen spoke ok goodbye scared me to death.😂
aww, this is cute when Java wants to join with you guys. =) This is soooo adorable..
She is so funny. I laughed so much editing that part :D
I love how a sentence can make all the difference depending on the facial expressions. It took me awhile to learn and understand this when I first started signing. 🙂
I feel it’s the same for us who can hear but it’s not as noticed because we rely on tone as well
Very fitting that this is about the importance of facial expressions in ASL because Ryan's face at 5:30 kills me lol. That's a perfect face to describe being with someone 24/7.
Glad to see you guys back!
😂
You both have such a gentle and sweet energy that’s so refreshing to see. I always leave these videos feeling inspired and to be a more open minded person. I started taken ASL at my college because of you guys! Thank you for being wonderfully insightful 🤍😄
This is one of my favourite channels and honestly, I love this couple so much!!❤️❤️
Thank you for making my day better and keep going!
That means a lot! I'm glad we can make your day better!
@@SignDuoChannel Thank you so much for replying, I totally mean what I say and you make me really happy right now!
You are so missed when we don’t see you all for a while.
Woah first time I’ve been this early 🤟🏾
Hey guys, good to see you again today and I hope you're having a good time out there!
I wish ASL was taught all through school. Most of us as we get older start losing our hearing. I'm 62 and have a difficult time especially if there is more than one person speaking or if a person speaks softly or doesn't enunciat. Plus when you ask people to repeat something they sometimes shout which isn't necessary or they get aggravated.
That Java is SO CUTE!!! What a face. Kisses for her from Connecticut
du gamla du fria @ 1:14
you just played the swedish national anthem
love your vids
When talking about grumpy
She gives an example
Ryan like at camera… yeah like that
I laughed pretty good.
It is so good to see you both in. Would you consider videos more frequently like once a week ?
Haha she nailed the example perfectly 😂 thank you for the kind comment and caring. What would you like to see in our videos? :)
Oh wow you replied to me ? That’s so awesome
Thank you that means so much !
I would like to see more ways ryan deals with being deaf out in public and daily life.
How does he wake up for work or things like that what kind of special alarm does he use ?
Does he use a special sensor for the doorbell that flashes of light?
When he goes out and he’s shopping around at the mall or a store does he just use his phone to text people and ask for things?
Any special assistive devices that he uses?
Secondly more social interacting with people and how you keep from being accuse you excluded because the struggle to keep up with a group of friends that is conversing
What about At work and special accommodations you had to ask for I think that you have a very special opportunity with your channel that a lot of us deaf people could see how you have done things to give ideas to others of us that are deaf how we can deal with things
What about if a police officer has ever pulled you over and you tell them that you’re deaf how has that gone?
What would you do if you had to go to the hospital but Ellen couldn’t make it?
I can think of lots of things in my daily life that people believe because I read lips and I am vocal that I must not be deaf or struggles of communicating with people especially got more difficult when you have to wear a mask because of the pandemic but just daily life in general and I think we could see how you do things and your advice.
Thank you again for replying and giving a heart (in a younger adult deaf guy by the way )
yeah I agree those are cool ideas for videos
I’m, in general, interested in hearing stories. Like, hearing about his past experiences interacting with people in public. And the alarm and doorbell thing is an interesting question too. So yeah I agree!!
Yay!! Another video! Thanks for posting, made my day!!
i get so excited when i see y'all posted 🥳
Love you guys!!! 🥰
Cute couple!! Glad yall made another video, always helps me when the days bad!^^
Amazing!! Loved part 1 n 2 thanks!
oooh this one is gonna be interesting!
Finally, miss u so much
So happy I’m early! I miss your videos ❤️
thanks for sharing this video with all of us.
This is my favorite channel. Always makes my day when I see a new video uploaded :)
Love your content! Looking forward to more. And yes, your dog is the cutest!
😍 I just love Java so much! Such a sweet little girl❤ Great to see you guys again!
This is really interesting to hear about! Also, the subtitles on Java are so cute, as is she :)
Love you two.
Java's subtitles just made my day.. 😍
You guys are adorable!!
I just discovered your channel and I can't stop watching your videos! You guys are great and so cute. Hope you will post more soon!
Love these videos where Ellen is also signing without voice! Helps to immerse me in the language; thank you guys for all your work!
I love your guy’s videos your the best😃
Super interesting to learn about the miscommunication and the role facial expressions play
I really really love the voice off videos!
I'm currently in ASL 3 and wanting to work on my reception skills so these videos are super helpful! May not be able to understand everything but I'm getting there :)
Literally the best channel i would watch
I love your videos and the small window they open for me to the deaf community. My best friend is deaf and anything I can learn to understand her and what she deals with better is extremely helpful. Thanks so much!
I have been watching y'all for a few years now and I finally got the courage to take an ASL course and one of the very first thing we were told was to try not to look at the other person's hands but instead at their face to be able to read their emptions and "tone" so now I try to read the subtitles as fast as I can then watch your faces as you sign! I think reading music for most of my life will make using my peripheral vision a bit easier bit it will definitely still take some getting used to! Thank you for allowing us into your lives and for giving me the courage to learn about Deaf language and culture!
Love to see both of you sharing about couple things, I learned so much, you guys are awesome! Malaysian fans here, looking forward to your next videos~
very lovely video good work :)
Aw I haven't seen this channel in a while Java grew up so much
I love the speed that y'all sign. I am self taught and watching videos is how i work on my reception skills and y'all are the easiest for me to keep up with. I watch the video without CC first then watch it again with to see how much i actually understand. Thank you for opening up your lives to us and sharing personal things about yourselves.
Love your channel! Just found it! I am a momma to 5 kids and my second oldest has Dravet Syndrome. We are learning ASL as a family to help communicate with my daughter but also with others. Thank you for raising awareness and sharing your life! 💜💜
Missed you guys! Thanks for the video. Interesting to see how mood is conveyed in voice vs. facial expressions. I think there's lessons to be learned here. I have ASD so i have a very hard time reading people/facial expressions, so it's especially hard for me trying ASL. But I'm trying anyway!!!! Wish I had good friends like you guys to talk with. :)
i was excited for this video! thanks for sharing! i met a customer at my job last year who spoke LSM (mexican sign language), and it threw me for a bit of a loop because, i know english, spanish, and enough sign language for the job that i had (movie theater), but i didn't know any LSM and it was completely different. figured it out in the end, they got their drink and popcorn haha. have either ya'll ever faced something similar? lots of love!
I think it was nice to hear about how you guys dealt with misunderstandings and honestly it sounds not too far off from hearing relationships are like sometimes. Also Java is so funny! She is a lot like my dog Leo! They are so sassy!
Hey :) I wanted to say I love your videos! I have obscure auditory dysfunction and mild Aspergers and sometimes speech and general sound becomes too much for me to cope so I just go hide somewhere quiet and miss out on experiences. Your videos are great for me cause I can watch them in silence and get to know 2 awesome people in a way that feels really safe and comfortable 🙂 Thank you so much and Keep being awesome!
I’m learning auslan at my university because of you!!
I just found this channel and have been binge watching all the videos!! You guys inspire me to want to learn ASL!
That’s awesome! ☺️
Love your videos, thanks for sharing! I'm really enjoying the "voice off" Ellen, or one language at a time. 😊
You are both very amazing.
I've tried to learn ASL a few times as I work primarily in customer service and it is a hugely spoken language (#2 in the world I think?) But never had much practice SEEING it. I'm happy I found your channel, it makes it easier to visualize in an informal, casual manner (like I never thought about how facial expressions weight much heavier with ASL). and after watching a few videos you've sparked my excitement to start learning again!
yesssss ellen!!!! i love when u sign wo talking bc i feel like we can see your true beautiful and outgoing personality shine much more⭐️
awe ☺️ you're too kind
UGH I love this COUPLE and Javaaa ☺️😍
I just gotta say, Ryan looks SO much like one of my favorite Broadway actors, Jeremy Jordan. Like, Its crazyyy!!! 😂
Never thought about that before but so true!!
hahah everyone says that
Great vid guys!adorable
thank you!
nice to see you guys
nice to see ya too
Just a question, why do you have the music from the SWEDISH national anthem in your video? 🤣🤣 at first I thought I must've heard it wrong, but then the verse started playing and I started singing along. 🤣
I came here to say that too :) At 1:17 that is the Swedish national anthem "Du gamla du fria" . 🇸🇪
I assume you did not know that :) Thank's for a great video.
Love your videos , a match made in heaven..you two.
Yeah a new video! Greetings from the Netherlands! I have a question send to you on Facebook about a project what I'm doing on the topic of deafness and hard of hearing. Keep up the good work! I'm always happy to see you in de vlogs. Stay safe !
Her word captions for the dog….. sigh there just great
Sweet vidéo I love to see you! And Java seemed happy to see you too lol 😂 you’re all adorable thanks for sharing ! And for the skillshare website *_*
I love you both so much
So glad you are back 😁
Hi Dani!
@@SignDuoChannel hello, I'm new to your channel and I really love it. I'm planning to start learning BSL (I'm British) soon because of watching you guys. 😁
I have been teaching myself asl the last few months and I am proud to say I recognized so many more signs in this video! You guys are awesome.
awesome work!
Happy Thursday Ellen & Ryan!!
Happy Thursday!
Hey Sign Duo
I literally love you guys!!!! I think that you guys are a great inspiration to everyone
with and without hearing disabilities. Keep up the great work!!! I love watching you
guys talk in sign language and laugh together at funny times.
I'm wondering how I can learn Sign Language, I've always wanted to learn sign
language so I can communicate with all different people. There are students
at my school who are deaf and I would really love to speak with them via
sign language. It may be hard for me to learn it because I'm only a thirteen year old, so
not uni yet, haha. I think it is really important for people and the world basically to know what
its like for people with hearing disabilities.
Thanks Ellen and Ryan, keep up the great content. Can't wait to see some more drive
through videos!!!
Hey guys! Just wanted to say thank you for all that you do! I'm a physical therapy student in Arkansas and I've been watching your videos and they have really helped me with my ASL! There's someone who works in our department who is Deaf and you guys have seriously helped me with my comprehension skills! Your videos are great!
Good to see you guys and your dog Java. I am not surprised because my wife and I has some difficulties about differently expressing between our face and hands. Java is getting a lot smarter than you think. She was to go out before you do. 😆
love you guys! good to see you're both well :)
@@SignDuoChannel
Great video Guys! And Javan was so happy you were back 💙😘💙😘💙
thanks!
Almost to 1 mil!
It's surreal but we do appreciate all you guys being with us the past 5 years ♥️
I love videos like this white a lot of signing and not as much talking. I love to turn on the cc and see how well I can keep up with what’s being said. I feel it has been helping me receptivity a lot. I’m trying to make sure I don’t loose anything before the program starts because the gap and y’all have helped with that! So thank you. Keep
Up the great work and content.
It's been so long since a video!! I hope y'all are doing awesome!!
we are doing good! hope the same for you :)
@@SignDuoChannel i love watching y'all, y'all seem like amazing people.
Started skillshare today. Loving it
Glad you like the website!
ellen your skin is looking amazing
I love u guys keep up ur yt vids
Thanks! We will!
I’m glad to hear that u make me so happy and I’m happy that you do sign language for each other it helps as I’m deaf :D
I love your videos! It would be interesting to see you guys try to learn other sign languages and react to the differences.
Love to see you both again! I like that even if I'm looking away from the subtitles and I don't understand ASL, I can see what Ryan is saying by his face sometimes at least as far as the tone goes.
I'm really interested in knowing if you (Ellen) had trouble having the energy to emote with your face more? 🤔 Asking as someone with a terminally low social battery lol. I am watching and kind of mirroring the faces and movements (I can't help it) and it's sort of tiring because I'm very used to not expressing with my face too much, unless I am energised by the conversation.
🤟 Good to see you guys again. ❤️
I must say that I truly enjoy the non-voiced videos a lot more because it forces me to not be lazy (visually) and to makes me pay closer attention to the signing, gestures, and facial expressions. Once I watch the video once, I then go back and turn on the CC to see how well I was able to grasp the conversation in its entirety. Keep them coming! 😬
Omgosh I wish i found your channel a long time ago!! before watching your channel, i only knew the abc's and a few signs, but now ive learned soo much! at work, I want to be able to say "have a good day" "we appreciate your business" or like general nice things i can say to a customer.. actually i could prob review your videos.. lol
Your channel inspired me to learn sign language, so thank you so much!
That's great! :)
I’ve missed your videos! Took a break from UA-cam since I had a baby this year. I’m now teaching the kiddo basic signs! ❤️
Congratulations on your healthy baby
Please post more oftens. I really miss you guys
What would you like to see on our channel? :)
@@SignDuoChannel Oh my god...I can't believe you respond to my comment. I would love to watch anything you post. I've been binge-watching your channel and I love it so far.
Java is soooo cute!! I love the way she tried to play you both by not coming in!!
hahaha yep
Both of you look so good today!!
thank you Brittany!
I second this
Love that your guys are no drama
Never, life is not about drama but about happiness, family, freedom
Love that your videos doesn't drama like most videos to draw viewers
Hello! I'm a hearing individual and I just got a job as a custodian at a school for the deaf. I just started going through UA-cam to see what I can learn that will help me communicate with the staff and students. I'm so happy to have came a crossed you two! I love watching your videos! I also have signed up with Skillshare!!
And as I sit here binge watching your videos, I can't help but wonder.....when are you two gonna get engaged!? I keep watching for rings on those fingers!! A sign language wedding would be absolutely amazing.
Thanks for continuing teaching and or using ASL. I purposely turn caption off and try to learn what you are signing. I have a brief exposure to ASL and have used it.
I miss your videos!
