For anyone who is interested, you can buy/rent a spring compressor kit and just throw the clamps on the spring, drop the axle, put in spacer, jack-up axle, remove clamps, done. No sense in taking everything apart if you are just putting the same springs back in.
Gotta like a guy that does this in his driveway, outside , at night!
I also added a bumper at 140 lb and my worn winch at 66 lb for a little over 200 lb and it dropped me about 1 in. I didn't even know that this was possible so I'm going to go online and see if I can find one inch spacers!
Nice work!
Great video, i really enjoy your videos. thanks.
Nice video, Jeep is looking good!
Thanks man!
Excellent video well done
Thank you.
Do you need to get front end alignment after the installation?
Its a solid axle vehicle. You may want to adjust the track bar, but for a 1/2" spacer I doubt it would be necessary. Otherwise, no.
Can I Install this on my 2.5 lifkit spring? Jeep JLU ? Thank u
Love your Jeep man!! Question for ya...so the only thing you unhooked was the shock and sway bar link? I’ve seen other videos installing a budget boost or even a 2.5” lift where they had you take unhook the track bar, shocks, swaybar links and seems like a ton more stuff!! If the only things I have to unhook are the shocks and links, shit, I can do that, I just never felt comfortable unhooking all the other stuff
It depends what else comes in the kit. If the kit comes with a track bar bracket and other stuff then naturally it has to come off haha. But even then it’s still a pretty simple job!
Right, the kit I’m looking at is the Rancho 2” sport kit. Comes with four springs and shocks. It’s pretty much just a leveling kit, lifts the front 2” and the rear 3/4”. Shops around here want $3-400 to install.
Don’t bother paying! Save the money and do it yourself, 400$ can go towards a lot of other upgrades haha. Learning to install and wrench on your jeep is one of the best things you can do, you’ll be more comfortable with mods and learn a lot more in the process opposed to paying shops to install parts
I actually like the rake...
I know, old video. How tall are those Jack stands?
Just had a full suspension lift put on. It’s a 4” lift and I’m rubbing pretty bad with the new tires. Can I put a inch or two spacer to help with rubbing ?
Beautiful thing
Would I be able to replace my 3” coils for new 4” coils just one corner at a time like this? Or should I jack up the whole front of the jeep and then the whole rear? What’s easier?
You can defintely do one corner at a time
Do you think any spacer will work on the metalcloak dual rate coils? I’m thinking about doing a 1.5” spacer in the front
Yes
@@JKGearandGadgets thank you.
Did you do this with just off at a time or did you take both front wheels off at the same time (and then both rear)?
What brand are those fender flares? 🔥👌🏽
MCE!
Hey Ben love your videos! Maybe you can help, I noticed your adjustable control arms. I went ahead and got my over the weekend and looking to install them. My question is can I use the same method taking off my springs/shocks to add and make my adjustments on the control arms or is there an easier way? I went through all your vids I didn't see anything on installing control arms. Thanks in advance
I don’t think I’m tracking. Are you just trying to install the control arms? If so you don’t need to remove the springs for that. Just adjust the arms to equal length, install one at a time, and then make sure the jam nut on the arm is very tight.
@@JKGearandGadgets Ya sorry about that lol... I'm installing all 8 but my lengths are longer then my stock arms. Will I be able to line up my new adjustable arms with my new length without removing the springs/shocks? I assume my axles will need to be pushed out at the front and rear a bit. Hope that makes a bit more sense lol.
Al Stanko haha yeah it’s hard to explain over text. Do you have a lift? I don’t have any videos on installing and setting control arms. I wish I did. But you will have to adjust them according to your lift height. An easy rule of thumb is to set them just a tad longer than your oem arms. And then use the front lowers to adjust pinion angle/caster, and your rear uppers to adjust rear pinion angles. Removing the springs won’t be necessary. Measure and adjust arms on your workbench, install one at a time (remove one, install one). You can find recommend lengths on metalcloaks website under their lift kit install instructions. Even if you don’t have their control arms it will get you to a close spec of the correct lengths
@@JKGearandGadgets Excellent! thanks so much. I do have a 4 inch lift I got the recommended adjustments from core 4x4 it seems to be the favourite on a 4inch. Thanks again Cheers!
I’m going to do this because of the jk lean.
Yep! These 1/2” spacers are great for that
JK Gear and Gadgets except I need 1inch ones. Are they all the same? For progressive or stock springs?
Yep they are the same for all types of springs. 1” is a pretty large spacer to fix a lean though. The link in the description is for 1/2” but I think they sell 3/4” and 1” as well
JK Gear and Gadgets I’ve checked. There are 1 inchers
Go team rugged!!
I have a 2 1/2 inch lift and I attempted to do this myself but could not get the spring back in once i added the 1” spacer + factory isolator back on, i just ran out of room. Would taller jack stands be the answer, so the axle would have more space to fall? I really don’t wont to try the spring compressor method haha
Did you remove the shocks?
Yeah I disconnected the shock and sway bar link
Personally. You still got enough clearance on that Rubicon
Thanks for posting. I have the MC 3.5 lift with quick discos and Fox shocks and adj front track bar. After my heavy front bumper, I want to do the same as you. Did you have to adjust the discos? Track bar? Or did you just loosen the track bar bolts and control arm bolts to drop the axel? Thanks man, your Jeep looks nice and even.
Nope. Your just bringing everything back to the same spec as when you installed the lift.
JK Gear and Gadgets thanks!
Anyone do this to just the front passenger side to correct the "jk lean"?
I just got a 4inch lift 3 months ago and it just needs an inch spring spacer upfront to sit level. Will my drive angles and geometry be okay after I install them? Or would I need to get my control arms re adjusted? Thanks in advance
What fenders are you running in this video? I'm looking to buy some. Thanks!
Mce narrow versions. About to install KBD on the new 2 door build in a few weeks
@@JKGearandGadgets thanks!
How was installing the mce fenders?
Super simple, I was going to do a video but the instructions they provide make it too easy haha

I have a bone stock 2010, 2 door sport I use as a daily driver to work. I want to start customizing with a 2-2.5 inch lift and new wheels and tires. Without having to worry about also upgrading the drivetrain, is there a lift kit you can recommend?
AEV 2.5 if a daily driver
Where you buy those spacers from? What are they made out of? Metal or rubber?
Link is in the video description: they are a hard plastic material

Question...i have stock front oem springs #14 and i just purchased the Stock oem #19 front coil springs. Will the #19 springs give me enough lift so i dont need the 1 inch front coil spacer to level my jeep?
I’m not sure what the difference is between those numbers
So whats the difference between this and a body lift?
A body lift is installed between the body and the frame at the body mounts.
It raises the body only and the frame stays in the same spot.
I have a 2.5 rubi express lift on my jku and after adding bumper/winch I have an almost factory like rake again. Will a 1” TF spacer mess with the suspensions geometry?
No, it will simply bring you back to the same as it was when you added the lift
I've installed "Fox® Racing Shox 2.0 Adventure Series IFP Shock" and I was told the springs are too soft for my JK unlimited 4 doors. Any help or advise on the best option and size springs please? (i mainly use my jk for on-road while i off-road in the desert once every 2 months) appreciate your advise. thx
You can't put 2.0 on stock coils springs you'll blow out your shocks ,stock coils are way shorter & soggy AF.
Does a loss in the spring compression cause the axle to shift?
The axle shifts sideways due to the trackbar. As the axle drops down, it will swing to the side. Triangle math
@@JKGearandGadgets thank you! Just a quick background, my jk is bone stock with bigger tyres 285/65/17. In my mind there’s no reason for the axle to shift. I was suggested by a mechanic to install spacers for the spring to compensate for the compression loss. Is this correct?
@@NayomalWijeratne Yes, if your springs have sagged below factory height then the axle will shift. Spacers will raise it back up. However, if your springs are sagging bad enough to shift the axle then you need new springs as those are most likely shot.
How much is the axle shifted?
@@JKGearandGadgets thank you, I’ll definitely keep in mind to replace them, as for now I need a quick fix till I get some cash to get new springs. It’s shifted about 1 inch in the front and 0.5 inch at the back. Also does a shift in the axle cause any issues to the steering box? Added stress? Drivability issues?

Can you level the rear this way too?
Yep!!
GO TEAM RUGGED
Can you use two spacers per wheel?
You can, but I wouldn’t go over 2” total
@@JKGearandGadgets did you take both tires off at the same time? Also did you need to do anything else such as recenter the steering wheel?

Shoulda painted the springs red whileST you were at it lol

Why not just use coil spring compressors and not have to do all that other work disconnecting other stuff.?

hey man thanks for posting this vid
No problem man 🤘
Did you have to adjust the control arms when adding these?
No, since I had already adjusted them to the proper setting when adding the lift It simply brought the sagging springs back to original height

Do you have to get spring spacers from the same company you got the lift from? Probably a dumb question but I don't know too much about this stuff. I was thinking getting a skyjacker lift but they don't sell spring spacers
Nope! Any spacer will work as long as it’s for right model jeep

you do a great job with your videos.
Great video, do you need to re align the jeep after the spacer?
Nope!
I have a 2017 JKU with that nasty factory rake made worse by steel bumper and winch. Would a 1.5 inch spacer in front be too much to level it? I couldn't find 1 inch spacers. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Well it depends on how much it’s sagging. I can’t tell ya how much to level it without grabbing a measuring tape. They sell 1” spring spacers. Ton of options for various height spacers. Jack jeep up to see how much you want the front raised, measure the height, order spacer.
