A cool thing most people don't seem to realise (which makes sense tbh) is that the wingdrakes from the Wildspire Waste (Noios) will make loud noises after being hit, so you can shoot them with the slinger, and their screams can unearth diablos. This worked in a very weird way, so it makes sense that in MH Wilds we have that different wingdrake which also lives in the desert, but which has the screamer pods removed from them directly (the one from the tutorial with the balahara)
World's Watermoss can remove the mud from Barroth's body, and Torchpod can be shot at Lavasioth when it's magma armor is cooled in order to heat it back up and soften it
How they expect people to put two and two, or in this case 100 and 100, together is beyond me because I'd sooner believe that you were lying than believe that you can fish Zamtrios out with a frog.
U missed deviljho spamming breath attacks in a pitfall. On the trap interactions with rajang, specifically shock in gen 5, if im not mistaken, having shock traps destroyed in rampage mode does not shorten the length of shock traps that work. So in thr end i still bring the ye ol funny flashfly cage palico tool, as becausr rajang has a special interaction with shock traps in rampage, u can treat it as a free interrupt (eith how many traps a palico can put down, the break animation ended up being longer than the actual shock trap)

It can even work when it is enraged (only that move can specifically be affected)
I believe in Kecha Wacha's case, breaking its ears by doing enough damage to the head means it can no longer cover its eyes in rage state, making it vulnerable to Flash Bombs again. I think Dreadking also shares Dreadqueen's immunity to aerial Flash topples until its wings are broken. It might also be worth a footnote for the monsters where you can harvest materials off their bodies during topples, if just for the fact you need bug nets and pickaxes in your inventory in older generations; Zinogre's fulgurbugs, ores from the likes of Basarios and Uragaan, all the way up to giant Elders like Nakarkos, Lao Shan Lung and Ahtal-Neset.
I broke Kecha and Ash Kecha's head but it still didn't allow for the flash or sonic to take place. And yeah I shoulda included the mining but I was thinking more on combat
The effectiveness of sonic and flash bombs give new context to why they reduced the capacity of them down from 10 and 5 respectively down to 3 each in 5th Gen.
This is a great video first of all I learned some new things especially about Gen Just a fun little tidbit about zinogre and his shock traps but there’s a double interaction with flashes and shock traps, although I doubt intentional. In 3U if you flash him when he finishes absorbing the shock trap you can stop him from entering his charged state (tho it does leave him at max charge so the next time he howls he will enter charged state)
this series is so well thought of in terms of creativity for the design in monsters. not just how they look but the way they interact with not only the player but the environment as well
Oh man, I wished I knew your channel before! The Daimyo losing its stance with a sonic b is amazing! I can't wait your series on Wilds! I love learning cool tricks about monsters, it makes the hunts so much interactive and fun for me! But I am bad at figuring these out by myself, and there is not a lot of info about that online
Thank you very much! A lot of this stuff I had to learn over the years, seeing items show up in the supply chest and having to test it out or see videos/online forums. Dont feel too bad, there's still stuff I don't even know!
Maybe I missed it, if I did, sorry. Somnacanth can be flinched out of her ultimate attack if you use a sonic bomb! I dont know if this applies to auroracanth too, or if you can stun her at any moment, or just during the ultimate.
Is there a video on Slinger item interactions in World? Scatternuts and Crystalburst for example can be used to stop Uragaans charge if shot at it while rolling (in combat only), giving you an extra long topple. They can also be used to flinch either airborne Garuga twice, giving you a free dunk, Brightmoss can be used to 'absorb' Namielle puddles or force Flying monsters to land after getting multiple head hits. etc.
Rocks, and especially scatternuts fired at Kulu's hands cause it to drop whatever its holding(aside from the one magic crystal) Puddle pods instantly wash mud off parts hit as well, making them great for peeling a barroth or fish.
Don’t think this one was in here but: you can redirect Nibelsnarf’s underground charge by using a sonic bomb/detonating a barrel bomb away from your location, making him lunge for it instead of at you Iirc it works during rage, making it an alternative to startling him out of the ground
Great vid! Will note: Dung Bombs also make (some?) small monsters leave the area, at least in GenU And the Nakarkos results you mentioned near the end is how I understand it to normally work. You can delay the death laser for it to happen later, is all it does as far as I am aware.
There was a time back in FU where I fought a khezu. Khezu use their sense of smell to locate prey, so I thought "what happens when I use a dung bomb?" and i swear it worked. I know khezu has this long pause where he basically stands there anyway, but unless he did that 3 times in a row, I'm saying the dung bomb did something.
Strangely enough (don’t know if this applies to your comment) I’ve had this one moment with a Basarios in Rise: Sunbreak where it did it’s mini roar that signals it is going to move to a new area but just stood there for a second, stock still until it did move. For the life of me I don’t know how I managed it (maybe a flash bomb? I have no clue).
Snowbaron Lagombi has another interaction with loud noises, in addition to all of regular Lagombi's interactions. When it lifts the giant snowball over its head, you can throw a Sonic Bomb to make it drop it and leave it stunned for a big opening
Whoa, I did not know that you could use barrel bombs as a way to intercept monsters. Wish there were more monsters that have special interactions with certain items. Like, of course the big-eared chicken would get staggered by loud noises. It’s such a fun concept that really rewards player intuition, but it feels like it’s mostly low-mid tier monsters that have such Achilles’ Heels. Like non-lethal bombs really start to wane in usefulness in many endgame scenarios, especially in 5th gen, and I mean that’s all well and good if the game wants to ween you out of using tools to save your hide, but I wish they ultimately played a bigger role. I personally feel like there’s been less and less need for them since around MH4, which is around the point where I’d say the series started to lean into pure action over being a hunting simulator at heart.
I agree. Outside of gear, the way Monster Hunter works is that its difficulty scaling is based on subtly presenting experiences that you could use for stronger monsters. Its strange that thosr are basically ripped away instead of reinforcing what you were subliminally taught over the course of the game
small correction, dunno about Xeno since I haven't ever tried it, but Safi is not immune to flashes, you can use one to cancel Sapphire and dunk it if you time it right, although only once per 'use' of Sapphire. If you try it after doing it once, it'll only flinch for a second before using Sapphire anyways. Unless it's only vulnerable to them in that small window. I should test that out sometime
Yes, you can flash Safi. Both its moves where it actively flies (saphire & its pin consequence) have (somewhat tight) windows where a flash makes it fall, while on the ground it just blinds (as with other monsters), and outside those specific windows during those aerial moves, flashes are ignored. It not falling with subsequent uses is a consequence of World 's MR flash resist buildup, which in Safi materializes as the second aerial flash only staggering, and any further ones being ignored (until the resistance wanes over time).
1. Apparently in MHFU, you can throw a sonic bomb at Plesioth when it's running towards water and before it jumps. It works on base and enraged state, and it cancels the jump, prolonging the time it stays on land 2. In MHW and Iceborne, watermoss can be shot at enraged Anjanath's mouth. It IMMEDIATELY cancels the rage and instantly topples too. Works with any water-elemental weapon too, just hit the mouth when it's fiery but I only ever tested "weapon theory" with greatsword 3. Continuing the MHW slinger, shoot slinger torch at any place with effluvial and it will make a circular "safe spot" where you'll not be affected by effluvial. Kinda like "cleansing" the area
Fishing Plesioth out also deals some damage to it at least in gen 1 In Rise Zinogre straight up eats the thunder bug from the shock trap Blackveil Vaal Hazak can't be blinded until effluvia on his head is damaged
The World/Rise pins I didnt add since its a universal thing for both pre 5th and current gen. World more than Rise since you can crawl and equip + fire flash pods and Rise just has Wirefall but it is a good point to add
You can also flash a valstrax and topple it if you flash it during its dash attack, but given how fast it is you can imagine how lucky i had to be to see that actually happen by accident. Given how it floats in air so briefly its the same as knocking down a flying monster yet the window is so small no one would get this intentionally.
Also this is maybe more of an environmental interaction, but Rathalos and Rathian will always beeline to your location if you are holding a wyvern egg. I used this so much back in 4th gen, where I would just camp in the Rath nest in Heaven's mount and whenever the Raths would leave, I'd just pick up a wyvern egg and they would immediately rush back to that zone.
LOL Yeah thats environmental and also monster specific but its cool to mention regardless. That's hilarious though, I hate the nest at Heaven's Mount cuz of the stage tilt but you sir get full marks
Tranq bombs in 1st generation will put a monster to sleep after hitting them with 2 regardless if they are in a trap or in capture range, they also cannot be crafted in 1st gen.
I hated trying to capture monsters in gen 1. Especially when small monsters would wake them up cuz it took 12 years for it to be truly captured...the paaaain
@MahnsterHunter there is a funny bug in the Japanese version that can let bowgun users spam an ammo type infinitely if they get really quick at swapping ammo types, allowing them to keep sleeping a monster over and over again which also resets the trap duration.
I assume Cephadrome and Jhen can't be blinded because they're sand swimmers, and all of that sand constantly scraping on their face would mean they had to evolve less potent eyesight. I feel like it's implied piscine wyverns in general have pretty poor vision (hence sonic bombs being effective on them), at least it was the case on gen 1. Total headcanon here, but I think Yama Tsukami can't be blinded because of its relationship with thunderbugs. It collects them in such vast amounts, and they shine so brightly, that another tiny flash means nothing to it. I'm assuming that's why it doesn't work on colossal monsters like Lao, Dala and Zorah either: eyeballs too big to care about small bright lights. Xeno and Nakarkos are constantly exposed to bright light themselves, with the latter also spending half the fight with its face buried in bones and guck, so maybe it doesn't guide itself through sight all that much. I have no source to back up those claims, just going for what feels like it makes sense.
@@MahnsterHunter Yes, pretty much anything that puts them on the floor. Some downs will be interrupted by the trap, but it will be trapable until it starts the next animation after shaking. Also, Rajang is immune to flashes while it's firing its beam.
They might not count as items, but in Rise Sunbreak, the endemic life Elemental Blight beetles can achieve similar effects to some of items listed here if you hit monster with element they are weakest to. A few examples. Rathalos can dropped out of the sky like a flash bomb with a Thunder beetle. Similar effects with Sonic Bombs can be achieved with Fire Beetle on Lamgombi when it belly slides. Basarios dig attack can be interrupted with a water beetle. Teostra can knocked out of his Fire Aura state with a Water Beetle. Risen Teostra seems to be resistant to it when it goes into Risen state.
I've found that this is related to the monster's weakness! When you throw an elemental beetle that the monster is weak to, it'll make the monster flinch!
What about monsters like Diablos being able to dig under and destroy traps, or being able to gather off monsters with items like zinogre with bug nets or mining uragaans back
Forgot Blackveil Vaal being immune to flashes until its head part is broken but amazing video otherwise, my agitator running ass will keep the instant narga rage in mind
I love the info in this video, but do wish the whole thing was narrated. Had it on while doing the dishes but after the intro bit, it was just listening to the game sounds since I couldn't really look at my phone any more.
The wing-break to remove flash immunity is also true with dreadking (I didn't even know it was a thing for dreadqueen) And I remember blos in mh4u destroying my shocktrap when digging under it... But not sure about that one
YeH I meant to keep them stated as Dread's as opposed to just Dreadqueen but thats my mistake. And a majority of monsters who dig can destroy traps if they go under it, like agnaktor and daimyo
there are many secret thing in this series, I wish they could tell us in the game like when they told how to pick up Ancient Berry in MHGU. they could write it in monster list or something which modern mh did with monster weakness.
The devs are slowly coming around on that front but a lot of stuff they don't put out still. Like hunter's notes will show monster hitzone values but only in base state. So if the monster enrages or has an altered state that changes its values you wont know. Valstrax loses all elemental weakness when it enrages but they dont say that
pretty sure (atleast in MHFU) you can also interrupt a chameleos by timing a sonic bomb just before it charges, this stops the chameleos from being invisible for a short time.
I would just like to add that Alatreon (at least in Iceborne and GU I personally have never played the 3rd gen games) is immune to flashes while enraged.
Yeah it’s easier to see in GU compared to World (at least without looking at the map) because he gets this icy/fiery aura around him and if you try to flash him regardless of if he’s in the air or on the ground he just ignores it.
Personally I just try to brute strength 97% of monsters, I honestly wouldn't notice if some beetle I picked up from being a hoarder went missing after something mogged me.
When I threw it into its mouth as it was readying, the laser would still come out. Not the guaranteed laser attack, but on two other lasers it would still fire
You missed a fun one. Dung bombing a khezu and standing still makes them unable to locate you, they will sometimes fire attacks in random directions instead. They also are more likely to target bowgunners, treating bowgun users as if they have the taunt skill.
@@MahnsterHunter Yeah, dung messes them up, it's hard to see it in action though as they flee almost immediately when hit by one. You get the most consistent display of it if you can knock them out of the air as they try to leave, they will start looking around and fire 2-3 sets of the ground lighting in random directions before fleeing again. I remembered another one from unite as well. Plesioths have very odd interactions with supply lightning rods, it builds paralysis, but it's a tiny amount. We had a plesioth get stung several times by vespids and then paralyzed by a lightning rod in freedom unite but we could never recreate it again.
I'm pretty sure shara can see stuff. In the cutscenes, it looks right at the hunting party eye 1st, plus the nosie the eye makes as well as it's in cutscene design eye a hardy almost gem like quality, not unlike to Fatalis
Is there a reason you're provided with flashs bombs for fights against Lagiacrus in GenU or is it a reference to its weakness to sonic bombs underwater.
Wow, no boomerangs mentioned when talking about all items, 0/10 guide. Jk, the vid is pretty great. And I always thought you had to actually throw the thanq bombs straight into the maw, not just at the yamatsukami in general

Say what?
Oooh captured not trapped, ignore me still waking up!
Doing gods work as usual ❤
It must be done for the people~
You can also flash a valstrax and topple it if you flash it during its dash attack, but given how fast it is you can imagine how lucky i had to be to see that actually happen by accident. Given how it floats in air so briefly its the same as knocking down a flying monster yet the window is so small no one would get this intentionally.
I am not brave enough to try and knock it out the air like that. The moment those thrusters are engaged I'm poised to counter LOL
In World, they do this too, so that's one easy way to lure the Raths
Great video, hope more people can see it.
I love these sorts of details!
I don't know if someone mentionned it already, but in gen 3 and 4, you can flash Alatreon out of the air under very specific conditions
I havent seen anyone speak about Alatreon yet
LOL Now all I can think about is colossal monsters seeing flash bombs like fireflies or tiny explosions
You can shock trap rampage mode Rajang if it is getting up from a down, at least in World.
So, like if it got stunned and it's in the recovery animation where it's shaking it off?
@@MahnsterHunter Yes, pretty much anything that puts them on the floor. Some downs will be interrupted by the trap, but it will be trapable until it starts the next animation after shaking. Also, Rajang is immune to flashes while it's firing its beam.
Gotta use and abuse that at some point. And yeah, a lot of monsters have a brief window where certain breath attacks can negate the effect of a flash
I gotta try that out, I hardly ever pick up the beetles unless its thunder or I habe a subquest!
I've found that this is related to the monster's weakness! When you throw an elemental beetle that the monster is weak to, it'll make the monster flinch!
Just tested that out on multiple monsters, you are so right!
this is a very usefull collection of information, i wish we had a written version of it too
Some sources have it written but not every interaction is listed everywhere
What about monsters like Diablos being able to dig under and destroy traps, or being able to gather off monsters with items like zinogre with bug nets or mining uragaans back
Yeah digging under traps destroys them, and I didnt think to add gatherable items. Thats a good recommendation since there are quite a few
Abyssal Lagiacrus (We'll never see again)
Damn.....that made me more sad than I was wanting to admit
Unless they bring back underwater or retcon its lore, then Abyssal is lost to time unfortunately..
Forgot Blackveil Vaal being immune to flashes until its head part is broken but amazing video otherwise, my agitator running ass will keep the instant narga rage in mind
Yeah I cant believe I forgot the bastard. Was not thinking of it on that
I love the info in this video, but do wish the whole thing was narrated.
Had it on while doing the dishes but after the intro bit, it was just listening to the game sounds since I couldn't really look at my phone any more.
LOL DAMN IM SORRY! I'll keep that in mind next time!
The wing-break to remove flash immunity is also true with dreadking (I didn't even know it was a thing for dreadqueen)
And I remember blos in mh4u destroying my shocktrap when digging under it...
Word?? Got footage??
@@MahnsterHunter i think its covered in this old MHFU guide, ua-cam.com/video/HNUZwcXUHUU/v-deo.html
A VERY unknown fact scatternuts can knock garuga out of the air in world im not sure what the cap is but is either very high or infinite
Like hitting him with it base or as a spred shot??
@MahnsterHunter spread shot isnt necessary i think it was 2 hits or so and he falls
@modageddon2742 Now is that the same for crystalbursts or no?
@@MahnsterHunter have not tried them
WOW! NICE JOB!
13:49 I love the video, but the fact that you didnt Metsushoryugekki the Roar hurt a little as an SnS main.
Lol gotta let the monsters have their moments too
@MahnsterHunter They do have their moments! They get to have a peaceful existence before us SnS mains COUNTER THEIR SOUNDWAVES
@andrewwilliams8951 I would have disappointed you anyway cuz I'm absolutely sure I had Windmill on blue scroll LOL
@MahnsterHunter NO OIL???
That's how SnS turns into $n$
LOL idk, destroyer oil is like ..eh to me
I would just like to add that Alatreon (at least in Iceborne and GU I personally have never played the 3rd gen games) is immune to flashes while enraged.
Oh its while enraged and not using a breath attack?
Yeah it’s easier to see in GU compared to World (at least without looking at the map) because he gets this icy/fiery aura around him and if you try to flash him regardless of if he’s in the air or on the ground he just ignores it.
I really gotta test that out
Been here since gen 1 and a couple of these i never knew lol
Will you make a sequel to this video to showcase the item interactions of Wilds?
That sounds like a good idea. I'm up for it!
Personally I just try to brute strength 97% of monsters, I honestly wouldn't notice if some beetle I picked up from being a hoarder went missing after something mogged me.
Same, at most I'm probably using a flash bomb but otherwise we ballin
iirc you have to throw the tranq into Nakarkos' mouth while its getting ready to fire the laser, I know its possible since I've managed to do it once.
Someone commented something similar to that, so thats an actual thing? It just gets messed up by dung?
I wonder if comment section can gather enough information for part 2 😅
They're definitely about to cuz I'm definitely getting some things I hadn't even thought about!
totally unrelated but GOD i cant get over how goddamn cool the gogmazios switchaxe is. i reaaaally need to play 4U
That thing is a thematic masterpiece I love looking at it and I'm a sucker for sleep
@@MahnsterHunter omg it does SLEEP? even better
heck yeah :>
The reason Shara is immune to flashes is that it's blind
Wait seriously? I thought it could see just fine???
I'm pretty sure shara can see stuff.
In the cutscenes, it looks right at the hunting party eye 1st, plus the nosie the eye makes as well as it's in cutscene design eye a hardy almost gem like quality, not unlike to Fatalis
Is there a reason you're provided with flashs bombs for fights against Lagiacrus in GenU or is it a reference to its weakness to sonic bombs underwater.
Y'know, I'm not entirely sure. It felt like supply items for monsters that didnt have unique functions were just flash bombs and traps honestly
Would Violet Mizus unique ult cancel count as if u beat the damage check the bubble will fall on it doing damage and causing a knockdown
Yeah, it would be considered a damage check rather than an item interaction.
Also when Chaotick gore is agry and in frenzy mode shock traps dont work
Enraged and frenzied? I gotta try that
I never saw that with zamtrios ….
Its my first time seeing that too
My dumbass tried to flash a gore a few weeks ago I was very tired
Was it solo or online? The others must never know
Wow, no boomerangs mentioned when talking about all items, 0/10 guide.
Jk, the vid is pretty great. And I always thought you had to actually throw the thanq bombs straight into the maw, not just at the yamatsukami in general
LOL You're right, the tail cuterang!!! But the maw might be too dangerous cuz that tunnel hitbox is enormous
@MahnsterHunter I know, I though you throw the bomb into the suction and it gets sucked in. I was not a very smart player back in the day xD
This did not need to be 30 minutes long
Its technically only 8 and a half if you avoid the visual showcases~
