Wow. Just wow. I have seen a lot of videos of tourists visiting Holland, The Netherlands, Amsterdam, Volendam. And most of them show the same things. Over and over again. But this one is next level. Maybe it is because of the very bad weather the day you visited Volendam? I dunno. But you have seen, showed us, more than most (Dutch) people have ever seen of what is really going on in these places where they sell cheese, stroopwafels and fish to tourists. I am more than impressed.
I think this is the first truly representative culinary tour of the very best Dutch traditions I have watched in many years. Very well presented, not missing one beat. Very highly recommended, even to us Dutch Copy this tour and you can't go wrong. Even the typical Dutch weather is complementary, not many tourists.

Mostly they repeat like what they have seen in a film from Tarantino Pulp Fiction, (about the mayo) but what the Americans use as mayo is not even called mayo here and, to me, it should not be. American mayo, we call frietsaus, is plant based. Our mayonaise is made from eggs. 2 totaly different products. @HighlyCombustibleReacts for 1 should see this. Not that he responses in the way they do in Pulp Fiction but he said he would not like the mayonaise. 😅

I have bought imported waffles. Although I have not tried the fresh ones, they are still delicious. I believe that the freshly made waffles will taste better! Your Dutch costume looks like a doll, they can make one of yours and put it in the window of a clothing store! The smoked fish must be very fragrant, and it would be great to eat it with white wine! You were fed fish by the boss in this episode, like a baby dolphin in the ocean park, haha! There are so many kinds of cheese in that cheese shop. The residents living nearby are lucky enough to be able to eat different kinds of cheese at any time! Your hot sauce is suitable for food all over the world, even Indian cuisine can use your hot sauce, it’s really great! Thanks a lot for sharing, really great job! 👍🤩👏
Oh you simple heart. The packaged stroopwafels are an insult compared with the freshly backed ones. Smoked mackerel is the best. Juice, fatty goodness. Smoked eel on a bun is heaven. As for the cheese, try a cheese shop when it is quiet and ask to sample all cheeses from youngest to oldest. In the youngest cheese you can still taste the milk, the oldest (brokkelkaas) you need to savour by sucking on it, perhaps with snifter of old jenever.

Man I lived here for 30 years in Edam/ Volendam, one thing I really miss from Volendam definitely is the bread with smoked eel and Kibbeling! Would be really funny if you tried to spoke their dialect from Volendam hahaha Gaal lekker jack
I was in the military and we went to Holland and I had my mentor fix me French fries instead of bringing me ketchup he brought me mayonnaise and their mayonnaise tasted better then ours I buy Duke Mayonnaise now
i remember being a kid 35 years ago and going to the house he talked about some local showed us the way you knocked on the backdoor half the door went open and you was able to get fresh hot smoked eel from there it was insane good

Great video! By the way you moved all the way to Alkmaar for some cheese when literally the town next to Volendam, called Edam, is known for it's great cheese around the entire world. If you ever go back to Volendam don't forget to visit Edam, it's less than 10 minutes from Volendam.

The fatter the fish, the better it is for smoking. Thats why eel is really the king of smoked fish. Too bad its so rare and expensive nowadays. As all great foods in my opinion, it started as the opposite, a real working class product back in the day.
Such a shame that the real smoked eel is like Kobe beef nowadays. Most people simply can't afford it anymore. It's more a once-a-year (Christmas) thing, at least for us. And I just love it. It's so rich and subtle and salty. Yum.
Andrew Zimmern went to visit that guy in one of his tv shows, glad to see he is still going strong. I guess I should go there and try his eel, it's only 1,5 hours of driving for me.

There are Dutch people who are quite distgusted when people eat fish like they are some kind of seal. I always eat my fish on a platter, cut in pieces and using utensils, unless it's kibbeling maybe.

The oil is not hot enough but the stainless steel rack is full of french fries.
Those are the fries from downstairs. When the oil is hot enough they fry them for the second time and then they are ready to serve.
