This is really a good representation of foods in the Netherlands because we’re a very diverse and multi cultural country i grew up with Moroccan, Turkish, Surinamese, Chinese & Indonesian food.
@@evertjethoe Well, it depends. Countries like suriname and Indonesia is. But Morocco and Turkey and a lot of other countries are not, those foods are from migrants who came here
Dutch society isn’t multi cultural per definition. Sure it’s a thing in the “Randstad”, but there is still a lot of country where things are pretty much original.
@hageneesje dat Suriname en Indonesië ooit bezet zijn geraakt, maakt het eten geen Nederlands. Hollands eten is gewoon gestampte aardappel met rookworst. Meer dan gestampt voedsel is het helaas niet.

I am from the Netherlands but living in Greece now for the last 8 years but we have such a thing like Borek in Greece, It's a bit of a taboo to put sauce on top like that. The pastry is good enough without sauce malaka
@@SheetsBestellen There dishes similar in Greece and similar preperation, But putting sauce on top of it like that ur basically ruining a good pastry. It ruins the flavour of the food
@@SheetsBestellen It's called Boreki in Greece, u should never put sauce on such tasteful dishes and mostly we Dutch and Americans like to ruin pastry with sauce
The more you go inland David, sadly you will find less to none Surinamese food in some towns/city's. The more north-east or south you go, you will find mostly turkish, Egyption, marocan, italian etc. And down south more Belgium/France foods. Then as i said you do have Thai foods here to but they are like restaurants here and their scattered over the Netherlands.
Welcome to my city !! You didnt try the surnamese sandwiches at CT broodjes?!! They are legends in the city! Saray is my fav! You should have visit king falafel more then 35 years in the hague!
My first house was in the neighborhood of the Haagse Markt. It’s actually called Transvaal. And Paul Krugerlaan (the street where Abdoel is on) is a staple if you want to get some good food. Frankie’s (on the corner of Paul Krugerlaan and Delfselaan) has some of the best kapsalons…
Good documentary. You gave a good representation. You made a good selection of places. Even though you would have to try of course even more places. ;)
1:13:10 Despite living in the Netherlands for a long time, Chinese people are ingrained with the feel of not wanting to be noticed (it's not their business). Hence not wanting to be filmed initially (I'll refrain from making it political) Awesome video!
45:23 never understood how it's even a logical discussion... it is Curried Chicken... the chicken is made by currying it. Just as one would not say, Chicken Fried or Chicken Baked... what about Chicken Rotisserie... thus... it is Curried Chicken and not Chicken Curry.
The only thing what I would do when I come back to Holland is experience the Foreign culture foods which I actually never fully dived 100% into and enjoyed all the different cultures dishes that we have in Holland. For me it was always simple, lebanese, chinese, surinamese, some thai food turkish, indonesian but not really more wider then that. Shame actually to see now after I left for almost 2 years that, that was the only good thing about my country the huge amounts of different culture foods xD Oh wait edit.. And maybe taste some more good broccoli hahaha
Hey David, I forgot a important note: Most Dutch do not like spicy food. That is why you will only find more Surinamese foods in the West of The Netherlands and Way less or none spicy towards the N-E and South.
Personally, I think the best roti in the Hague you get at Roopram. @David You really should've tried the sandwiches at the Chinese shop next to China Trading. Too good!
The Hague Food Tour that you have never seen before, could have been written differently. Such as: all Foreign dishes that you can eat in The Hague! The Netherlands has no kitchen and thanks to other nationalities they know what real food is in the Netherlands!
David, So now you know the connection between Suriname and The Netherlands. But here is a puzzle: Why is the connection different in the U.K.?. You do not see Surinamese there right?. But you do see India people, so they are India's people directly etc. So in the U.K. Therefore you will find the spices, as they would be mostly in India. However in The Netherlands you wil find the same India's people, but they where born in Suriname or later born in The Netherlands. So why are the Hindu's (In The Netherlands, India people that had roots to India and was Hindu that came from Suriname are called in dutch: Hindoestanen) so different between the U.K. And The Netherlands? It is as you said. 4/5 different cultures in Suriname where food is mixed into all 4/5. However in The U.K., This is not the same case back in time. Therefore the UK knows the food as it is directly from India, as their other foods like from Portugal and so on.
This is really a good representation of foods in the Netherlands because we’re a very diverse and multi cultural country i grew up with Moroccan, Turkish, Surinamese, Chinese & Indonesian food.
