Yes! I need a video like this for all elements in all events! Soooo interesting. My only suggestion would be to order from least to most difficult. ❤ that you cited the gymnasts!
I love every variant of the Shaposh with half turn, I was happy they upgrated them and now more and more gymnasts perform them, I always enjory those transitions (thanks for that Khorkina), I also love the bhardwaj
I'm so glad that the Shaposhnikova half elements have finally been upgraded to an E, I wonder if someone will be doing a full twisting Shaposhnikova soon, I've seen it done on youtube but never in competition
The Strong is absolutely amazing. Wish more people did it. That said, wish gymnasts would be more inventive in their transitions in general. I am so tied of the overused pak/VL combo.
As I said in the description, the May update including several changes to the difficulty ratings. All variants of the Shaposh with 1/2 are now rated E.
I would love to see an update of 2011 or 2012 if it is complete yet. Especially w/ the olympics around the corner. It would help me understand scores better!
I think the Khorkina transition looks so much more elegant the way Khorkina does it with the straddled legs as opposed to how all of the new Russian's perform it, with legs together.
@natalienat518 As I said in the description, the May 2009 code update included several changes to the difficulty ratings. All variants of the Shaposh with 1/2 are now rated E.
@veevee305 In the current code it is not considered a real element (and there is a set deduction for performing it), but in 2000 it was a legitimate move which is why so many girls performed it.
Huh. About ten months ago, I desperately wanted something like this. I'm pretty sure I looked through all your videos for it over the summer... too bad I found it after I started getting good at identifying bar changes.
Fantastic video, just like all your others! :-) Will you be adding the Seitz to the tail end of this compilation, or has it not been approved by the FIG yet?
Yep, still present in her 2012 silver medal routine! She might have won gold without them. It's annoying because it spoils it a bit. Yao Jinnan cleverly just uses shaps to get around it, but they should really work on eliminating it like other countries are able to.
@MostepanovaFan What about the transition that Melanie Marti did in 05? She did a handstand on the low bar and then a front pike/straddle to regrasp the high bar.
Thank you for posting, You know they really need to encourge more unique and difficult transitions and they aren't doing that with this new code. I mean a pak salto full should be like a G not an E and why the hell is a bail to handstand still a D? I mean we are going to have to see that for ANOTHER 4 years now. Why also would a pike or stalder hecht to highbar only be a C? It's very fustrating.
Another fab post, M! Kudos to Lori Strong for her skill; I'd like to see it today instead of the obligatory contact w/ the low bar most gymnasts seem to make. It surprises me that at :20 - :32, while the regular Shaposhnikova is a D, w/ a 1/2 turn its an E; yet the regular Teza & the Teza w/ a 1/2 turn are both D (2:37 - 2:56). I'm comparing the ratings not the skills. The Teza seems such a difficult & original skill that it should have a higher rating than it does. Any thoughts, anyone?
I have a question. I remember a certain low to high bar transition being used a lot at the 96 Olympics. It was (let me see if I can describe it right) a cast then the legs sort of straddle the low bar and they spring up to the high bar (there's a lot of those in the US gymnasts' bar routines). Is that not in the CoP anymore?
What is it called when they gymnast stoops their legs through (either straddled or piked) to kind of sit on the low bar and push themselves up to the high bar? I don't know if that was clear lol. A lot of gymnasts used to do it, especially in the early 90s. It is Kim Zmeskal's first transition in her 1992 routine. Is it no longer in the code? Or did I just miss it?
Quick question, did the transition Khorkina used to the high bar at the 1996 Worlds still in the code? It kind of looks like a Shapashnikova half but looks more hecht-ed than hip circled.
I do too, asides the transitions......I tend to think it comes down to being physically not as strong as some of the others and of course typically, the chinese are 'tiny' in frame.
I get why they cap transitions at E is so gymnasts don't create routines with super high difficulty that only include going from low to high. However, the Strong, Seitz, Komova and a few others are so devalued its rediculous
Perhaps tucked transitions and laidout transitions do not make much of a difference in difficulty, so they simply do laidout transitions for more difficulty and connection values.
@garyj79 why did they widen the bars?? It seem like a struggle for many female gymnasts in transitions these day and they simply cannot do any other complex moves like in the video clip...
It makes it easier to swing giants and catch releases with proper technique. Gymnasts are actually allowed to set the bar width anywhere between 130 and 180 cm (4'3" to 5'11"); if the tradeoff for the wider width were not worth it we would not see nearly every major international name of the last 20+ years using the widest possible setting for their routines.
Kaden Lunt It was first done by Doris Fuchs Brause. I think the reason it isn't done now is because the bars are wider than when Doris did it in the mid-1960's.
@wonderlen - I know, and most chinese gymnasts (despite their dominance on the piece) seem to have difficulty transferring - a lot seem to dead hang ! their technique or something must be dodgy.....
And why are the hecht transitions only rated C ?? is it just me or are they virtually a blind regrasp as the gymnasts face faces the mat on catching the top bar !?!
What is the move called when the gymnast does a toe-on circle, then stands up on the low bar and jumps up to the high bar? Amy Chow and Simona Amanar did it in the 1996 Games
It's a sole circle - it's not allowed at the elite level but it is relatively common in lover levels. There's one in one of the UK grades and it can and is done at optional levels in the US. I'm pretty sure it's in the COP still, though.
Yes! I need a video like this for all elements in all events! Soooo interesting. My only suggestion would be to order from least to most difficult. ❤ that you cited the gymnasts!
The Lori "Strong" 1-1/2 twist from high to low bar is truly amazing!
I wonder if Teza's inventiveness was from her, her coach, or something in between.
The Khorkina transition is by far the most sublime.
I love every variant of the Shaposh with half turn, I was happy they upgrated them and now more and more gymnasts perform them, I always enjory those transitions (thanks for that Khorkina), I also love the bhardwaj
i love all the hechts to high bar like the clear hip hecht and the straddled hecht!
Bhardwaj! Best high-to-low transition... I just love it!
Some of my fave gymnasts appear here! Thank you!
I'm so glad that the Shaposhnikova half elements have finally been upgraded to an E, I wonder if someone will be doing a full twisting Shaposhnikova soon, I've seen it done on youtube but never in competition
1:09 I feel like that's just a bent leg pak salto.
Probably why it’s a C and not a D like a regular Pak
Thank you thank you thank you so much for making this! Like all of your guides, it is fantastic.
Amazed how some of these transitions are kept in the COP when they are physically impossible (with the widening of the bars)
The Strong is absolutely amazing. Wish more people did it.
That said, wish gymnasts would be more inventive in their transitions in general. I am so tied of the overused pak/VL combo.

Have you seen Ruby Harold (GBR) 2013 UB routines? She performs Van Leeuwen + Zuchold. Its crazy XD
Agree. It's a refreshing move to see, wonder why as well.
Agree. The Delladio should be a D because it needs a lot of power to fly from handstand.
Some tiny gymnasts are well capable of avoiding dead hang. And the flightiest of all on those transitions was Mo Huilan.
@natalienat518 As I said in the description, the May 2009 code update included several changes to the difficulty ratings. All variants of the Shaposh with 1/2 are now rated E.
standing on the low bar now incurs a deduction.
@veevee305 In the current code it is not considered a real element (and there is a set deduction for performing it), but in 2000 it was a legitimate move which is why so many girls performed it.
It says at one point that it is 0.1 deduction for changing bars without an element, so thats where they take it for standing on the bars
I can't wait for the addition of Seitz (full twisting Maloney) is added! Fingers crossed for worlds 2011!
Huh. About ten months ago, I desperately wanted something like this. I'm pretty sure I looked through all your videos for it over the summer... too bad I found it after I started getting good at identifying bar changes.
Fantastic video, just like all your others! :-)
Will you be adding the Seitz to the tail end of this compilation, or has it not been approved by the FIG yet?
Flight refers to letting go and recatching the bars (either the same or a different bar), whereas swings don't release the bar
Can you add recent additions like the Komova I and Komova II?
Yep, still present in her 2012 silver medal routine! She might have won gold without them. It's annoying because it spoils it a bit. Yao Jinnan cleverly just uses shaps to get around it, but they should really work on eliminating it like other countries are able to.
Just watched this video and had to sub. Nice work!

@brycehelmer There are many terms in gymnastics. It's also a "bail".
It isn't in there anymore, I love it too (someone should try and bring it back - they'd probably have to be quite tall though)
Another fab post, M! Kudos to Lori Strong for her skill; I'd like to see it today instead of the obligatory contact w/ the low bar most gymnasts seem to make. kip stoop to high bar? 8 years later lmao

They are now considered no values elements, as is the transition Onodi did
It isn't in there anymore, I spent ages looking for it :(
Quick question, did the transition Khorkina used to the high bar at the 1996 Worlds still in the code? It kind of looks like a Shapashnikova half but looks more hecht-ed than hip circled.
True, though I find (IMO) one of the biggest culprits of dead hangs was 2008 bars gold medalist......He Hexin !
@MostepanovaFan Where can I get the new COP for WAG bc USAG won't let me download it from their website. :( I just have the old one.
Beautiful
what about the transition melanie marti used to do? i've heard that it's just not in the code.
I hope I'm not the only one who's crazy about the uneven bars :)
Yeah, me too. But she always get credited for her 'straddle' Ezhova. Its confusing right.
I do too, asides the transitions......I tend to think it comes down to being physically not as strong as some of the others and of course typically, the chinese are 'tiny' in frame.

It was a .1 deduction but now has been increased to a .3 deduction.

I think that the delladio should be given a D or high rating. It's really hard to hold a handstand for that long :(
we dont see more tucked transitions between the bars, why that?
what's the song in here?
Lindo vídeo e linda música
at 1.36 that grip is called something ..anyone know?
I use to do the trick at 1.49! er, many, many yrs ago.
@Hasoginy
Wild Child by Enya
1:48
@Ruffian144 YEA!!!! SHOPOSH WITH FULL TWIST IS STILL A D SKILL ITS STUPID DONT YOU THINK?
Sounds like enya singing
somebody should bring back the first move in the video
Kaden Lunt It was first done by Doris Fuchs Brause. I think the reason it isn't done now is because the bars are wider than when Doris did it in the mid-1960's.

@brycehelmer Haha, flip, salto, somersault, somi...
Komova I, Komova II ?
They were added to the Code of Points in 2010 and 2011 respectively. This video was made in 2009.
What is the move called when the gymnast does a toe-on circle, then stands up on the low bar and jumps up to the high bar? Amy Chow and Simona Amanar did it in the 1996 Games
Not sure what it's called, but it is not allowed anymore.
Undermedveten Thanks for the clarification

0:15 and 0:36
1:18 hereee
the khorkina is a D
@natalienat518 Khorkina is an E
1:33 thiss
The Van Leeuwen really needs to be downgraded to a D
All shaposhnikova variations with 1/2 turn are worth E now!
MoLlicci I know that. I think the toe-on half needs to be downgraded to a D.
