Truck Broke Down On The Side Of The Road In New Mexico | 2022 Peterbilt 389 With Stop Engine Light

- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- I was minding my own business driving against the wind, uphill, and 70mph when I suddenly got the red STOP ENGINE IMMEDIATELY light on the dash display. I pulled over on the shoulder of Interstate 40 in New Mexico and had to try to figure out what was going on.
Had the same issues, it ended up being the turbo actuator.
Invest in your own scan tool. A decent one that you can hook up and just have it tell you what the problem is and maybe reset the code. I got a cheap one on Amazon and was able to reset the dam thing so i could keep moving to get home.
Invest in pre emission truck if that one is not a glider
@@Jesse-pl6hy dont have to . I used some common sense, a bit of youtube research, and fixed it myself months ago. Haven't had a problem with it yet, nock on wood. Going on 1and a half years and shes still going. Besides if the government is pushing for battery or hydro fuel, there is no sense in trading it in for something that is going to be obsolete anyway.
Good point I hope I’m retired when my truck becomes obsolete
Scan tools do not work on trucks.
Big trucks have j1939 plugs that require commercial dongles and cummins connect app on pc (for his truck engine type)
My bets are the red light of death is emissions related. The common failures in newer cummins engines is either EGR or diesel doser injector.
Cummins connect is free, service adapter is around $2700.
@@hayzeproductions7093 right... thats why i litteraly did it. The scan tool comes with the proper connections to plug into my international prostar with a cummins engine that allowed me to look at any fault codes that the ecm is throwing and know exactly what is going on. Now you cant going in and change settings on the ecm like you can with cummins connect, but you can diagnose the problem, do your fucking research and fix it yourself, and you can do the big thing , which is delete the code. And guess what else you can do with a scan tool that i bought for 200 bucks. Run a forced regen. So do your own research before giving into the big technicians that will cost thousands of dollars. Especially if you own your own truck. Most of the time, you can fix a simple problem yourself for half the cost.
15k intervals bud, if you plan to keep that Pete a long time. Those intervals in the manual are what fleets go by.
I recommend a PDI tuner. It shows you CEL codes also lets you do manuel regens. I bought one last December they had 20% off and am very happy with it.
Yeah, I think I'll end up with one at some point.
PDI tuners are probably banned in commiefornia
@@jesusislord2515 I’m in California. Only thing banned is their turbo’s probably due to the emissions bs
@@Velox18 what kind of mpg you get with these pete?
Actually the service and maintenance is so important to keep El Weso running strong 💪...and of course regular washes to keep her nice ....she deserves it Nick !!!!
If all your gauges look normal it's most likely just some sensor going crazy for something minor. I will say this if running 10w30 oil I wouldn't hesitate one bit running it 30-35k miles on an oil change. However, if you're buying fuel at major truck stops where they have more than 5% bio diesel it could potentially cause filters to clog along with a combination of generic filters. Also, I was told by several different makes techs to never let a dpf truck get below 1/4 tank of DEF.
I run lighter loads 15-20k, no idle, and service my 2020 Volvo every 50k on oil change. I grease every 15k. I get 40-50k out of my fuel/water filter. There's A LOT of contributing factors into maintenance on different trucks. I say spend you a few bucks and get you a oil analysis done from Blackstone lab and they can tell you if you need to be changing sooner than 35k miles.
They said the stored code was for crankcase pressure... but that they can't diagnose it without the code being active.
@@Velox18 oh wow and of course the codes not active now 🤦♂️ gotta love it!
Uh oh ....shes breaking down letting you know she demands a bath ....she said im filthy dad 🤣☝️😆👊
60k miles its common for emission issues on x15 engines. Specially if your rpms are not running high enough.
Gotta rev limiter?? Get rid of it.
I dont have issues with an isx3 series but when i float through gears i wing it out to 1850 before the next gear.
Watching your video a little longer,
Service wrench usually comes up for emission related faults.
If your o/o you better step your mechanic knowlege up to help keep yourself in business. The newer the truck the more problems they can have.
Nick my brother, the easier you are on the truck... The more money you save.... The easier it is on fuel, parts, tires..... I know he's got big balls, but El Hueso isn't a racecar.... He's a tool, and you should always take best care of your tools. (Although it's your truck, and I'm not here to tell you how to drive your truck) Love ya Nick, take care and bless ya eh buds 🤙🏻
Don't tell me how to live my life Jordan! Lol. You're right but it's so hard to ease up off that throttle
@@Velox18 *Cheryl from Archer* "YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!" 😂😂😂😂 I know it's hard.... But I'll tell ya, once you get used to traffic passing you (and not having to weave through it all the time) and you see how much bigger your bank account gets.... You'll be wishing you did it sooner.... You just need to look at the bigger picture of it all. The vacations, the less stress with bills/mortgage/college, retirement..... All that.... You got this, just one day at a time.... God didn't create this earth in one day, it took him time. 🙏🏻
@@Velox18 Jordan is right
Cruise control
@@jamtraninc cruise actually uses more power and consequently more fuel than the pedal
Same thing happened to me with a 2017 Cummins. Turned out all I needed was do a manual regen to clear out the def system. Worth a try
I have. 2011 had the same issue lost power all it needed was a regeneration
@@raymondgonzalez5020 it needs a delete
@@jansen7640 na I rather stick to just repairs then the fine you will get if you get caught. Had the truck for 5 years and that was the first time it did anything to me
How do you do a manual regen?
Man Nick I was relieved to see this video I was really worried about you keep up the updates
Filter or sensor. Sometimes it’s regeneration. In HENO it does automatically.
Fuel filters! Had a paccar that did what yours did... change oil, and fuel filters no lights until they got clogged again.
Change every 20k if you plan on keeping it after warranty runs out.
Definitely don’t wait till 30,000 to change the oil. OTR I’d do 15k max. I run local and heavy and change the oil and fuel filters every 10k. My 14 has 550k on it and oil samples come back perfect Everytime using rotella.
in flagstaff go to black barts for dinner,,,you'll love it,,its across street from little america
You should change your fuel filter every 15,000 miles according to Cummins.
i would change it all at 15k if it was my truck oil and filters are stupid cheap to keep a machine running
Could just be a sensor acting up. Sort of like a hickup.
Bummer that happens to a new truck. BTW, do you have to get trip permit to enter NM?
You can either a buy a NM trip report each time you enter or set up an acct with them and file quarterly like you would do with KY,NY,OR and IFTA.its cheaper to set up an acct.
Love your movies a, what hp x 15 is that and what mpg do you achieve on average
565 hp
About 5.9 mpg
DEF quality sensor most common problem
Good luck man i hope you get back on the road fast
Regen problem more than likely. Check your clamps from turbo to dpf outlet make sure they're tight.
Velox, get a shout out.to frontier heavy haul.he has a new pete also.went thru similar issues.dude is pretty well versed in these new petes.
I recommend you pressing the regen button every night you spot usually that’s what I do Bc with that def your filter gets clogged
That’s crazy
I got a FLD 92 freightliner with a Cummins and I change oil and filters all of them every 12 to 13 thousand miles.
Sounds like you might try changing your primary & secondary fuel filters especially if it seems like lack of power …
I’d do oil change twice as often as recommended…approximately!
I do mine every 15k-17k just to stay safe
Keeps the washout down!
I just got 2 injector seals & a B-PM! We back working fine! Hopefully it's nothing 🙏
Good video see you on the next one thanks
If you use keeptruckin eld it shows the spn code if one pops up. I have a Pete 579 and it tells me so I have at least an idea
Bro you need the OTR PERFORMANCE TOOL
I was there on Sunday for a 10hr break and around 3am my truck was hit by another trucker. He broke my passenger side mirror. There might be piece left on the ground. Only dealer that had a mirror in stock was north Las Vegas.
Be safe nick
Cost for to wash out inside your trailer only ?
I would seriously consider servicing more often Nick ....that is why it feels sluggish ...every twenty thou should be more feasable ...filters get dirty and dont flow well after 20,000 miles ....lots of my drag racing buddies have and use trucks to haul their cars and thats the norm for them
Good luck bro!
I have a 579 do to us being From California most diesel there are now bio diesel which the motor doesn’t like. I’ve had the similar problems my engine light would go one it would just say check maintenance. I started changing the oil at 20 to 25k depending how hard I’m running. I do change my fuel filter once before doing a full service. Ever since then I haven’t had that check engine
I don't know about 40k on fuel filters, one bad tank of fuel can screw em up, at least the primary. Don't forget you can take it to a Cummins dealer too, I think I'd opt for that if I could. Carry fuel filters and a wrench. Hope u get that Ice cream off.
40K on a fuel filter? LOL
Air filters could be dirty ???
Nick, if you are practicing for a race, maybe F1 or Indy cars, you're kind of doing OK. Just get a pair of heavy work boots to help keep the pedal down, better than the chanclas.
If you're driving for your family, think 4xcollege funds, pension, extra care for Gus and el hueso, you need to drive with your chanclas but very light foot. There is a reason why speed limits were at 55mph for a long time, I think you said in one of the states this trip too. At 55mph you get really good mileage but it also helps with longevity of the engine. Deflectors help with mileage as well.
Once your warranty is over, throw that manual away. Talk to other truckers, especially those mechanically minded and keep to the better service routines they will inevitably point you to.
We or I am on this journey with you. We want to stay on a long journey. Not just a short, disappeared from UA-cam after a short journey.
✊
Dang, I change mine every 10,000.…....all filters.......all that carbon in the oil and as black as it gets......no way I'd go 25,000 miles....to each his own 👍
Yea I’m a every 10k mile man myself and that’s on my old engines as well as the newer
I got an amsoil bypass filter on mine to help with the soot. Still do regular maintenance of course but the bypass gives a little piece of mind
Gotta get a otr performance tool save you alot of money
Grey bottle of power service and change your fuel filters ESPECIALLY the water separator.
Bro the def quality/level sensors are going bad randomly on all paccar products mine did it back in April lasted four years it would do that then shut it off for ten min then restart all fine then one day whooop no more 🤦🏻♂️ right now there is a “shortage” of that part nationwide 🤪🤙🏻✌🏻🤘🏻 on a side note need to carry fuel filters with a wrench under the sleeper bro I used to wrap them in a towel put them in a little 2.5 gal bucket with a lid saved me and some road brothers a few times🤙🏻😎
My t680 I got June 2nd I got 82000 on her and I'm headed in for the 4th oil change on the ole Cummins and I do carry a fuel filter and wrench
Always change your fuel filters first it's the easiest and cheapest thing to do and keep extra filters with you and a filter wrench anytime you troubleshoot Always start with the cheapest thing
Change your oil every 15-17,500 change your Davco fuel filter every 7500-8000 miles and grease the chassis at that time that 30,000 miles is ok if you plan on trading it in before it’s out of warranty but if you plan on keeping it take care of it
You know it.
Check your battery connections and your ground wires you may just have a loose
I do my separator filter every 15,000. Maybe sooner depending on how bad it gets. If you are going to keep the emissions stuff I’d be getting the PDI kit.
I agree but tuners void the warranty.
10,000-12,,000 / oil and all filters if you wanna keep that Peterbilt running like a top! No exceptions & get yourself a scan tool! Believe me you’ll be happy you did!
Wow a 2022 and they just started getting the 2021s in because of backorder. Still waiting on my 2021 that was supposed to be delivered in September. Now they say dec 6. P.s you should be ok to get home its probably a sensor
Don't the Pete's come with telematics?
Hopefully its not the emissions. Ive had nothing but headaches with the newer trucks. Just my luck....
Stop at a truck stop have your fuel filters changed top them off with atf will clean them up see if that works.
Not in an emissions truck
Dang G 60 the rings haven't even seated yet a what's the def doing my friend just deleted his truck he waited till after the warranty was up cause they had problems with their new trucks I feel bad for you
A while your truck Is running flip the leaver on your fuel water separator you might have water in that just cause you might have bad fuel when you hit the leaver let it drain your truck might stumble then flip it back again don't let it turn off
Looked like your coolant was a bit low for a hot engine… would say add some more
I’m a tech at a very large retail chain. Our trucks get an oil change every 50K and get 8 mpg on average
Hopefully it's nothing very serious with the motor I own a X15 performance series it's 620 horsepower and when my check engine light came on it was just a fuel filter I would go ahead change your fuel filters even though it's not time to do that
That’s why I like pre emission 😀
Maybe when I leave CA I'll get myself an old 379.
Play with your dash button’s, will find the code’s somewhere.
I had similar problem. It was the ECM harness
I’m having the same issue on my 2013 Peterbilt
Unless you are using amsoil i would not run any oil 35000 miles it ok when breaking in motor but other than that i wouldnt do it if you run truck stop oil cut the oil change in half and run a oil sample so you know how far you can run that oil
PACCAR has a program where codes and be read on the fly and emailed to you its not free but pretty handy
Force regan and that light turns on when u have a regan problem and do oil change at 15k-20k oil isn’t meant to last 30k I change it every 13k and we at 630k string
All Cummins engine give you the code either on the dash or ignition and sounds
I do start planning for a oil change after 15000 but i never over 20000 unless i add some Lucas then ill hit 20000 a change after but thats rare i had similar issues end up being my fuel pump but im at 690000 it had its fair share of wear and tear 0
Instead of toastmasters, I opted for just dumbing down my entire Bible class to my level of speaking. It took about 8 years, but they all talk like me now.
Put a KT CUMMINS in your rig. Ooooh mamasayah ...you'd like it .
The wrench usually means it’s due for a scheduled service. Shouldn’t be anything urgent.
That's what I thought but then it gave me a [[STOP ENGINE IMMEDIATELY]] light so I got a little more worried about the wrench then I was before. I had the dealership run the diagnostic tool and they said it had excessive crank case pressure. So maybe crank case filter got plugged and the wrench is to service that? I'm not sure yet but they should get back to me by tomorrow.
O yea theirs a bulletin on the new trucks about a def sensor going out and the carb is letting you temporarily delete your truck that UA-camr Asian mai show has a guy on their that happened to his truck they said to bypass it cause no one has that sensor
Fawkk dude 30k mile oil changes? Don’t do that to yourself. Even if it’s full synthetic… fuck that. My mind would me sleep at night after 12k. That’s a long time to not change fuel filters.
Should maybe also look into swapping over to a clear fuel filter bowl so you can see your filter if you have to. But 15k max on fuel filters if you wanna be safe
My stop light of death turned out to be Cummins EGR problems. A three week stay at a KW dealership.
Welcome to your DEF nightmare
Never say never again 🙌🙌🙌
Alright!!!! Its our boy VELOX!!! dude now that I'm in cali your no where close!!! Hot damn!!
New Truck having lots of trouble. Costing lots of Time and $$$. Parts falling off. New stuff is Krap
Next time that happens, turn the battery power switch off to the truck a minute then repower and see if the code is still there
Maybe there is a chance you got some bad fuel somewhere, I wouldn't always go by what that book says!
buy a otr code clear and force regen unit a must have with a dam soot eater
Sorry to say but I think your going to need to take it to a dealer for a forced regeneration. Usually cost 500-700 plus down time and not covered under warranty if no parts are replaced in the def system. Nox sensors bad etc yes are covered but not forced regeneration
Bro that’s way to long between oil changes , 15k max, and I’m betting on the fuel filter needing changed, why ur getting that rough response
Just following the engine manual. Definitely not in their best interest to tell us to extend intervals if it's not good for the engine.
@@Velox18 they want u back in the shop to make them money lol
@@Velox18 Trust me ignore the makers oil change intervals. Many years of experience has shown me that changing Oil + Filters about 15,000 miles really does help the Engine. Dude the truck may do 75mph but believe me, it wrecks your fuel economy and wears out all of the components at a higher rate.
Try 10,000 miles for every oil change... thats what i do for my 14 Detroit diesel and i have 560,000 miles on rebuild and 1.5 million overall on the truck and block...
Seeing that Goodwater exit sign makes me a little homesick, grew up on that stretch of I40 east of Holbrook.
Hot shot secret extreme to clean injectors twice a year, I've seen it fix a truck with a miss two different times, I always use hot shot secret "every day treatment" 1 ounce per 25 gallon on every fill up.
WTF😱 oil service every 35,000 miles!!! I do it every 10,000 and i just overhaul it on August.
Yes to 178 miles across 40!
That’s my dream truck
Do ur oil change sir 15k you got x15 Cummins bro. Don’t listen what manufacturers tells you, otherwise this things will start burning oil left and right. Keep in mind you run this thing in west.
That’s a friggin shame you purposely buy a brand new truck so you don’t have those problems and your down anyway, hope it’s a quick fix
My clamps got loose on the turbo alot,
Poor you breaking down in New Mexico.
You gotta learn to live with the check engine light poping every now and then
How often do you change your fuel filter? I would change them every 15,000 miles.
Sounds like it needed a regen
All that truck needs is a fuel filter.
Because the sensors stop light went away All it takes is a speck of dirt to block an injector and your sensors take over.
Damn I change my oil every 10k miles
Hope it's nothing serious. Nerve racking when those engine lights come on. It's not easy talking on camera I think, you find all your crutches. See you one the next one.
Coolant level sensor gave that light
Unplug the sensor above the turbo till you get to a shop
You'll need to do a region or you'll have to take it to Peterbilt... Has something to do with your def filter...
You supposed to get 9mpg@65mph. You got a problem. You might need Tune, PDI or Pittsburg Power or Something. 2022 shitttt I’m lookin for 10mpg on that.
And Get a OTR Chip Tool To Reset you Truck Yourself or a PDI Tuner it Resets and Regens Too
He will never get 9mpg with a hood truck that’s a flat top pulling a reefer
Don’t listen to these idiots telling you to change oil every 15k. Back in the day with mechanical engines yeah, but new modern engines are between 35K and 60K miles.
It's not because of the engine's, oils have improved. But 30k is still a lot for a diesel because of the egr systems they now have.
Keith, my last truck a 2016 Cascadia with a DD13, I changed the oil every 50K it 830K clock when I sold zero issues. Now granted I run the Pittsburgh power catalyst in all my trucks, which reduces carbon build up and soot. Zero issues.
