  • In this video, I compare Pietta and Uberti revolvers on the ability to load conical bullets. I’ll also demonstrate how to install an Uberti rammer in a Pietta Revolver to allow the Pietta to load conicals like the Uberti. Be sure to subscribe to my channel for more videos. Thanks for watching!

      That is hardly hardly a side load not to mention you could do it with a regular drill if you had to. I wouldnt even use files. A few graduations of 3m n some micro mesh or something to finish. 15 minute job n its perfectly round n concentric, no gouges or flat spots and you didnt have to take a file or dremmel to your frame. Files should be avoided if possible a file is never a precision tool

    As said in the vid, a couple ways to deal with the problem.
    If the Uberti doesnt fit, filing the frame(barrel) hides the cut & blue to an interior area but prevents 'restoring' back to Pietta rammer.
    Turning down the Uberti rammer leaves the gun whole, but has the cut & blue very visible on previously Case color rammer.
    Drilling the Pietta only changes the Rammer in a hidden way, and its cheaper to modify part you have than buy Uberti replacement... but must be done precisely

    In my Pietta 1851 Navy "Yank" model ( .44 caliber ) with silver-plated frame and all, I don't load the cylinder on the gun. I remove it and use a heavy-duty benchtop ramming tool so I can't say how my conicals would load with the cylinder attached to the gun.

  • @toddy2519
    @toddy2519 4 роки тому +1

    Wouldn't it have been easier and better to chuck the rammer into a drill press or hand drill, use a fine file against it to reduce the diameter? That way you would not have had to modify the barrel/frame. It would have removed the case colors from the rammer but having it just blued would still have made it look attractive. That's just my opinion on this.

    • @BogeyTheBear
      @BogeyTheBear 3 роки тому

      I've heard of gunsmiths and movie prop makers 'defarbing' replica guns to make them look more like the originals. This could involve something like taking the barrel and turning it 90 degrees so the text ends up on bottom, or filling in the inscribed text.
      If the text is a legal requirement, I imagine it is only in the case of _selling_ the gun. Kind of like cutting off that 'Do Not Remove' tag on your bed mattress.

    It’s easier to buff the shaft instead of the frame hole. Jus sayin.
    Also, a revolver nomenclature is not referred to as a gun. And there is no such ammunition known as .45 long colt. An aside, the navy was only .36. The army was .44. Just for your viewers, as I’m sure you know that.

    • @ScottGpa
      @ScottGpa 3 роки тому

      Hi Norman. On your comment to Dustin, I and I'm sure many others will agree that modifying the diameter of the plunger would be preferential however as I think the job through I think one would need some unique tools/equipment to achieve this wouldn't you agree? It's not something I can imagine being accomplished with a drill to turn the shaft. So, not many would be able to turn the shaft down. Depending on the source I would agree that the term gun is inappropriate. In fact I know in many nations' militaries the term gun only applies to something on wheels, howitzer etc. so "gun" will not apply to any hand held firearms whatsoever. Let's be understandable to the masses though, other than firearms aficionados, everyone else will call a firearm a gun. Agreed? After all Norman, it's just not to interest the firearm followers but hopefully to get a point across to the politically correct. Personally I am OK with the term "45 Long Colt". Most of us know the correct term for the cartridge but encounter "45 LC" so often and by so many, to the less educated it helps in identifying the difference between it and "45ACP".
