Wow - can't believe I get to hear/watch such valuable and insightful advice for free... this was great, Dave! I'm half-blind and used to play Division 1 football here in the states. I've only recently discovered my love of darts, but in the few months I've been playing I've appreciated the game more and more. I'm still trying to figure out the best throwing style for myself; being half-blind in my right eye while also being right handed has been tricky to figure out... but to be honest, I feel that it only makes my improvements and my good matches that much more satisfying! This is one of the best--if not, the best--advice videos I've watched yet. I'm looking forward to putting the advice to use!
*EDIT* -- I see this video is from 2018... do you still do weekly advice/analysis videos for lucky subscribers?

Hi Dave, love your videos, watching them from Montreal, Canada. I've played for the first time in my life 3 weeks ago and was hooked immediately as I beat some friends that had been playing for 30 years haha (beginner's luck?). It seems that I have accuracy as I've bought decent darts and a Unicorn board and none of them have managed to beat me yet haha. But now I may have to give up and it really saddens me. I've always had inflammation issues throughout my life (I'm almost 50). Playing soccer, skateboarding, skiing, hockey, even swimming and typing on a keyboard has caused issues. Recently I reopened a lower back discal hernia so playing darts for 2-3 hours or even less brings me to a point where intense pain sets in and I can't function for the week after this. And now, the top of the right shoulder hurts tremendously, but not when I play, which is so strange. It hurts when I stop.
I've been listening to your tips to avoid injuries, specifically to the hip and shoulder. I'd love it if you could do a video on this topic. Some suggestions:
    - equipment to heal, like for example myovolt. Are they any good?
    - repetitive strain injuries and how pro players avoid them. Do they pause every other day? Do they apply cold to their shoulder and lower back before a game?
    - supplements like chondroitin maybe?
I'd love to continue playing and have actually thought of practicing throwing from a chair. Any advice will be gold!

Hi Bradders if you have a drop in progress go back to the start and check the basics are spot on because as you get used to throwing correctly you will have a drop in concentration and focus. Going back resets Theas aspects of the throw but it will happen less and less as you persevere it took me 2 years to develop my throw and it was hard work it felt very alien at the beginning but I spent hours thinking about the technique i spent months trying out variants on how to hone and perfect it i now believe its probably the best basic technique that most people can use to raise there standard of play.
      Cheers Dynamite Dave...

Dave, I've tried your stance for 3 weeks now. I can't throw more than 2, 501 games in a row. Then pain it causes in my left hip (I'm left handed) is excruciating and lasts for hours. My 3 dart average has gone down and I'm now thinking about giving darts up. I'm 60 years old and darts is my only cheap vice left. I used to be a good A league player. I won money in the 1982 Royal Hawaiian International Darts Tournament and was awarded Sherwood Forest Pub's top all-star trophy in 1983 on the island of Oahu. That was in my right-handed days. You see, because of Focal Dystonia in my right hand, I've decided that I could relearn darts as a lefty. Since my left hand and wrist are not plagued by that neurological movement disorder, I believe that I can train to throw lefty, possibly exceeding my right handed skill. Thank God I didn't have to relearn the mental side of the game, nor the proper out shot combinations. I'm going to try the Gary Anderson style of toeing the oche now and see how it goes. I still watch your videos because it's easy to see that you really care about teaching others. Your suggestion of less wrist in the throw has tightened up my groups considerably. Thank you for helping me, but I'll just have to pass on your stance.

Hi Eric buddy don't give up the game just because you cant throw like me. reading your comment has given me more info and the reason for your pain may now be evident if I assume your right footed this would explain your pain problem. if you were right handed and footed this never changes so left foot first will take a very long time even if you were thirty to adapt to and also you may have a touch of arthritis in your hips but im only guessing im no doctor. if you have watched a lot of my videos you will have hear me say on a few occasions some people have to stand like a boxer (Toe to the oche) because of medical conditions. so as I say use the techniques to build a throw you can use by adapting them as required. I have never and will never profess to be right just logical and methodical "its all subjective and only any good if its good for you if its not Eric just use the bits that work for you.
if you have a passion for the game never give up I wont... All the Best Dynamite Dave.

    Just a few points.
Within reason be comfortable. Too many pub players have a closed stance that does not suit their throw.
A fully straight arm hinders power. Throw a cricket ball to understand this.
Closed side on throws tend to lend themselves to straight arm throws. Whereas more open/toe on throws lend themselves to more elbow out throws.
A common cause of elbow dropping is when players lean too far forward.

    • @DynamiteDaveLlewellyn

As I have said time and time again everything is subjective if you think im wrong and your right then just crack on if your comfortable playing with a 40-50 average or even a 70-80 then then you don't need me.

@@DynamiteDaveLlewellyn to be fair, you need to understand that your throw isn't gonna suit everyone. And I also stand to the oche with my toe and back foot up and have achieved plenty.
Also just 1 question Dave, if you are a consistent 90-100 av player why are you not winning comps and playing high level darts.

    • @DynamiteDaveLlewellyn

Can I ask you just what are you doing here this is for people who want to change and your narrow mindedness is not wanted you just look at the stats what I do works. so if you have achieved plenty your videos will be on here please can we have the links for them so we can see just how fantastic your throw is and I will do a video on you and your great throw. cheers D Dave...

@@DynamiteDaveLlewellyn I'm not saying what you do doesn't work for some people, I have just stated that it will not work for everyone. And like I said I throw toe slightly angled to the oche and I have achieved plenty. Youth international, British teenage open semi finalist, youth world masters finalist, also I have won numerous opens.
I applaud what you are doing Dave, I just think that people need to be taught the basics e. g. Solid steady stance, relaxed fluent follow through and the conduct of the game. As for grip I believe its each to there own and how they feel comfortable.
Don't get me wrong, everyone should be taught to throw from the eye to find the correct release point, and the less moving parts is always recommended.
And as I said Dave, how come your not playing local/national opens or q school.
I'm actually at the Scottish open
