- For Father's Day, we go for a wet hike at Shades State Park, doing the 6 Ravine Challenge PLUS a bonus 7th ravine! Trails hiked included 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and parts of 9 & the Backpack Trail. We love a good creek hike, and that's mostly what Shades State Park is! I decided not to add background music to this video, letting the sounds of nature to set the mood.

Great job gentlemen. Shades State Park is on my to do list for sure.
It's a great park, less visited, very natural.
Great job on another hiking video👍
Thanks! 👍
Cool video, the terrain reminds me a little of the Big South Fork. Great shot of the owl also. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe that's why I like this state park so much. We really have nothing up here to truly compare to that kind of terrain. We actually had planned to backpack BSF again over Memorial Weekend, but weather was not cooperating. Thanks for watching!
Awesome, gutted we don't have anywhere like this to hike in Spain near where we live.. beautiful! 😍💙
This is very out of the ordinary for my state, but lucky to have it here. Thanks for watching Millie!
cool albino millipede!..awesome hiking trail!...I did anything trail that is rugged and an adventure!.....whenever I watch your Indiana adventures I always think about Tecumseh and the Shawnee that once lived there!...how cool it must have been 200 years ago and the natural environment at that time too!
The park used to be known as Shades of Death. There are several legends on why it was called that, one of those legends is that a battle between the Potawatomi and Miami tribes took place here. There's always some kind of native history up here!
Going in the morning for the first time.
Hope you enjoyed!
I love a good rugged trail. So pretty - beautifully green with lots of cool rock formations. 7??!! 😮 LOL Great video guys!
Thanks! It's a beautiful place in every season, but it was very green this time!
@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions So nice to see that green!
Great video. You dudes are great.
Thanks so much!
Neat park, it's been on my list for a while, hopefully I'll get to hike it one day. Thanks for the video.
I hope you get to hike it one day! Check out it's sister park Turkey Run if you ever make it to the area as well, similar terrain.
@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions Yep. Those two parks and Cataract Falls would make for an awesome trip to the west central part of your state.
That trail should be renamed to chutes and ladders....LOL Nice catch on the owl !!
Ha I like that! Very fitting.
We love shades SP we got some hiking in there during COVID . It was great to get out but it was still a little cold an no leaves on the trees at that time. Love watching your adventures keep up the good work.
Thanks! We've been trying to experience some of these places in every season, always something new to experience that way.
Good hike! Just past the entrance, on sr234 and before you get to the covered bridge, there is a small lot on the left where you can park. Across the road is another trail. We used to call it Bumblebee Trail when I was younger... you can all the spines of the hills down to Sugar Creek.
So did you hear the beast in the woods? The first people to settle in that area complained of some creature that would roam those forests. The park is named for the Battle of Shades, a vicious Native American skirmish between two competing tribes...
Thanks for hauling us along! Cheers and Blessings!
I think the trail off of 234 you are referring to is the trail into Pine Hills Nature Preserve. That small lot is no longer there, they have a lot just for it now within the state park. Pine Hills is one of the best features with the Devil's Backbone & creeks flowing. Didn't hear any beast this time. The park's name has so many legends, from that Native American battle, to the settler lady that murdered her husband there in the early 1800s, etc. Thanks for watching!
Parts of that were so lush, it looked like yo weer in the jungle!
That's kind of the feeling it gave us too, like we were in a rain forest. Thanks for watching!
Very nice. I've been to Turkey Run a few times but haven't yet made it over to Shades. Perhaps in the near future!
It's a lot like Turkey Run, a little more primitive and less crowded. Hope you can visit!
Rain hikes are the best! Those ladders were a surprise. Very cool.
Catfish has some real chops as a nature photographer.
We are liking the rain hikes! Catfish takes so many pictures, maybe one of these days he'll capture a 'squatch....
Catfish is the man! Keep up the good work fellas... Very cool videos and thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!
Sugar creek looks nice. Would you ever camp down there? I liked the ladder areas. You guys rocked the trail.
Have fun in Colorado. Which part you going too?
I’m going to Colorado next week. Holy Cross Wilderness area for a few days.
We have camped at the state park. There is also a "backpackers" camp and a canoe camp. We are going to be all over Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Arapahoe/Roosevelt National Forest, etc. We'll see what all we have time for!
Truly a very cool area👍👍. Looks like a nice time in the rain.
This is the kind of terrain I thrive in. Thanks for watching!
Wow, this place had it all. Bouldering, hand over foot, ladders, stairs and rugged terrain. Made me tired just watching, but looked like a fun time.
Definitely a fun time! You'd never know, driving through the corn and bean fields, this is hiding in the woods alongside that creek.
Indiana has some great parks! Oh my though, what a ladder and those steps!! Not for the faint of heart. It was cool seeing the spring though.
It's definitely an adventure. Thanks for watching!
Great views
I've really been enjoying the "Best Tent Camping in [state]. I have Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Wisconsin and plan on collecting more. HOWEVER (and the reason I mention it) they do not have "Best Tent Camping in Indiana". You guys oughta do that! You could just about completely cover it with you current UA-cam episodes. I think you've probably already covered the top 50 in Indiana.
For example: "Best Tent Camping: Utah: Your Car-Camping Guide to Scenic Beauty, the Sounds of Nature, and an Escape from Civilization" by Jeffrey Steadman.

Great idea!
