Count: come in my car, I'll give you cookies! John: Sure, I love cookies! ... John: Is he kind of pedophile or kidnapper? Was it a good idea... Should I ask him? Ok, I'll ask. Sir, are you a pedophile? Count: No, I am a count and I am lonely, I long for company. John: Oh, I am so relieved. I think I'll write a song!
More Dream Theater!!! The band is my all time favourite. They have more long songs, they have short songs, they have heavy songs, they have soft songs (so soft that the boy band Westlife seems like metal in comparison). I would recommend following songs as a start - A change of Seasons - Illumination Theory - Barstool Warrior - At wit's end - Another Day - Voices - Breaking all Illusions - Answering the call - Learning to live - The Mirror -The Alien - As I am You're in for a treat!!!
1:50 that "pling," by the way, is a harmonic on the guitar. Basically you get a certain resonance by playing the same note at different octaves, usually by "cutting the string in half" or fretting at the 12th, 5th, or 7th frets and the frequency of the notes resonates together in this very pleasing way.
Dude, I love how you actually took the time to listen to the story and break it down. Way too many reactors just listen to the music and skip the lyrics. This is my favorite video I’ve seen of yours!
When I drive I usually don't listen some very energetic, high BPM music, but when I'm tired and on a long highway drive, Dream Theater keep me awake. Better than any coffee, energy drink and s..t like that. So many changes, they keep you on your toes. And, well, I must be strange, I love their long songs. I had the oportunity to see them 7 times by now, but I never get bored with them, next time they are in my part of the wotld, I'll see them again. Count of Tuscany is one of my favourite songs in general, not just DT and only on their last tour I've heard it live for the first time.
During the finale, when they reintroduce those previous motifs under the big closing chords is magical. Obviously the djenty sections in the middle rock the hell out. Amazing composition, lyrics aside. There is a version out there without vocals. I did LOL when you said "well, you went in the basement!".
Also, the story is told mainly from the perspective of John Petrucci, the guitar player for the band. He actually did go to Tuscany, went sightseeing and got scared of the stories he was told by his guide about that estate and his brother. The lyrics (especially the "I don't wanna die" part) become kinda funny once you know the story because they're so serious but are based on a misunderstanding. But yeah, this song is one of their most beautiful works.
One of my all time favorite songs by Dream Theater, so epic! Btw, the sounds in the beginning (that sound like mario coins) are natural harmonics made by the guitar made by holding your finger above the fret very lightly and then plucking the strings. If you want another epic one, gotta do Octavarium
ok man, you're new to me. i'm a big DT fan and i get a kick out of watching people react to them. i dig your style, dude. you had me at "maybe the main character's dead." 😂😂😂
The 'cannibal curator' part is them telling you Hannibal Lecter was inspired by his brother, without telling you. I think that's confirmed in an interview.
The brother was in a Hannibal movie. He was the curator in Rome or wherever, thus why he's the "cannibal curator", except he was the actual curator at that place. He just got to be in the movie. I have a picture of the Count's house. Or more like mansion, or castle.
awesome reaction lol i was the same...listened to it for the first time in my car, and i was so drawn to the story that i had to pull over lol. i was literally waiting to hear what happened. i too thought he died during rudess's solo lol and was pleasantly surprised that he survived! DT makes movies in their songs!
Gotta listen to more Dream Theater. So Many fab songs. Many epics. Ocatavarium. In The Presence of Enemies, Nightmare to Remember. One of the Best concept albums ever - Scenes From a Memory. It tells a great story, with a twist at the end!
When I think about it, what is the twist at the end of metropolis pt 2? All the album is about death, and in the end the protagonist dies. I don't think that's a twist, it is actually delivery on promise. Exactly like Opeth Still Life. Count of Tuscany has a twist on the end (the protagonist does not die).
Omgosh. They just played this live the last 2 years of touring. It is to behold. John Petrucci does some cool guitar stuff in that middle part. Then, the wnd comes, and the emotion. Just so awesome!
I like the way you digest the song without alot of bs talk, you listened and commented and proceeded. Nice. Try out Be' Lakor- Smoke of many fires, it has a story type setup as well, lyrics are needed.
I love it when, a non DT fan.. hears an EPIC like this one and “reacts” the way DT fans love to witness 😮. It’s the same reaction WE ALL had, and hence we first heard The Count, what… 15 years ago 😊
Yeah, DT are masters of making long songs that leave you wanting for more. Their intros are the length of normal songs and they fly by so quickly while most mainstream songs make me wanna skip ahead even though they're around 4 minutes long.
Count of Tuscany is just one of about a dozen epic storytelling songs by Dream Theater, but it's definitely NOT their "magnum opus". That title is reserved for six masterpieces (in any order): 1. Octavarium (from the album of the same name) 2. A Change of Seasons (an EP that was released right after Images and Words because it was too long to fit in the album) 3. Metropolis Part II: Scenes From A Memory (perhaps the best concept album ever written, on a par with Pink Floyd's "The Wall", "Operation: Mindcrime" by Queensryche, or "Tommy" by The Who) 4. The "Twelve-Step Suite" (5 songs spread out over several albums, telling the story of drummer Mike Portnoy's alcohol addiction) 5. Illumination Theory (the closing track of their self-titled album from 2013 - the live version from "Breaking the Fourth Wall" is staggeringly good) 6. In the Presence of Enemies Parts I and II (opening and closing tracks of their underrated album "Systematic Chaos") And these are just the main highlights of their vast discography spanning over 15 studio albums and 5 or 6 live albums (Score, Live at Budokan and Breaking the Fourth Wall are MUST listens/watches). Total rabbit hole!!!
do you think they wrote a change of seasons thinking, "this is going to be our most epic song!", and they had so much fun doing it, they wrote a bunch more? i agree count of tuscany isn't their magnum opus, but it's prob in my top 10 dream theater songs.
You have to listen to "Octavarium" in my opinion, some will say it's not only their best song but their best epic long song. I would probably also watch it live at Score 2006 over the studio version because from reactions i've seen some people seem to have trouble picking up what instrument a section or part is played. but if you prefer to listen to Album studio version go ahead. it's a must listen.
That was crazy! First time they came to germany i was there. Later, 20th Anniversary, i was there, and met P and P ^^ Backstage. They just wanted a german beer, so we going right into town (Ludwigsburg). Portnoy later gave me his Drumsticks after the show. It was his way to say thank you!
NEVER EVER EVER stop in the middle of a JOHN PETRUCCI SOLO !!!!!!! omg dude LOL Petrucci IS THE KING !! hehe., it's not crazy it's BRILLIANT.. all their music is story telling.
You can do that sound on a guitar, by pressing on some parts of the fretboardb, but you never press the strings down. Polyphia uses this alot: ua-cam.com/video/qspe7LbBVWA/v-deo.html
This story is actually real and happened to the guitarist John Petrucci, He really did tell the world.
And they are friends now! John met the Count at least a few times when DT toured Italy
For a second looking at the thumbnail I thought it was Mike Portnoy reacting to his own song 😂😂
Gosh! Same here!

ditto! doing this as a lyric video was definitely a good move.
When I drive I usually don't listen some very energetic, high BPM music, but when I'm tired and on a long highway drive, Dream Theater keep me awake. And tool 🛠️

My opinion, this was not only their best work, it one of the best songs ever. And you had the best reaction to it
I think the second best song by DT, only behind Change of Season!
Also, the story is told mainly from the perspective of John Petrucci, the guitar player for the band. This song is pure magic...
mike portnoy reacting to his own band
this is the funniest the count of tuscany reaction , please do more DT videos
The 'cannibal curator' part is them telling you Hannibal Lecter was inspired by his brother, without telling you. I think that's confirmed in an interview.

25:32 "I'm like are they telling a vampire story here?"
Well, actually, on the previous album...🤔

First vid of you I see its my #1 best song ever by any band/artist Great 🤘
Dude you should react dream theatre live They play the same exact at live
They are so precious and on time
Probably my all time favorite Dream Theater track❤️
Omgosh. They just played this live the last 2 years of touring. It is to behold. John Petrucci does some cool guitar stuff in that middle part. Then, the wnd comes, and the emotion. Just so awesome!
Check out the live version of ILLUMINATION THEORY LIVE, with lyrics & Orchestra
The last album was with Portnoy, and he also worked on backing vocals
BTW, Mighty Mike is back!
When you have such a deep and intricate knowledge of the theory you get music as such.
what a ride !
I like the way you digest the song without alot of bs talk, you listened and commented and proceeded. Nice.
Try out Be' Lakor- Smoke of many fires, it has a story type setup as well, lyrics are needed.
The last DT song with MP on the drums. I saw them for the first time on this tour cycle. My all time favorite band. Check out Pale blue Dot next.
Actually Raw Dog from the God of War soundtrack was the last song they had with portnoy.
I love it when, a non DT fan.. hears an EPIC like this one and “reacts” the way DT fans love to witness 😮. It’s the same reaction WE ALL had, and hence we first heard The Count, what… 15 years ago 😊
"I Think he's dead... that's the sound of afterlife" Hahaha I'm laughing so bad
Yeah, DT are masters of making long songs that leave you wanting for more. Their intros are the length of normal songs and they fly by so quickly while most mainstream songs make me wanna skip ahead even though they're around 4 minutes long.

4, Count and 6, in that order, for me.
Meh…Illumination theory is not even near at the ideas, solos of the Count
👍👍 I love guitars. This delivers!!! 🖖❤
the sound sou ask for the efect(in the intro) its an natural harmonic produced by the guitar, you can do it on an acoustic one, no need any more
i haven't watched the reaction yet, but: "hopefully it's at least good." hahahaha. buckle up, baby!
Unfortunately, the song is not good.
It
is
marvelously delicious
Yes.. Dream Theater is the most talented prog band out there..
Lets not forget tool 🥺
This one was fun! :D Also kinda reminds me of the old adventure game Gabriel Knight 3!
Plot twist : the brothers actually a vampires and wanted Petrucci to tell the world to visit them to attract more poor peoples toward their death 🎉
Oh damn that actually makes sense lol
I can assure that you are on the right track.
Masterpiece.🤟🏻Octavarium is equally a masterpiece. So is In The Presence of Enemies, and A Change of Seasons. They have several!🤟🏻
You have to listen to "Octavarium" in my opinion, some will say it's not only their best song but their best epic long song. Dream Theater rules!!! Now listen to In the Presence of enemies I & II or Illumination Theory
Those are harmonics in the intro
Yeah played on guitar.
a bit on the short side 😁
NEVER EVER EVER stop in the middle of a JOHN PETRUCCI SOLO !!!!!!! omg dude LOL Petrucci IS THE KING !! hehe., it's not crazy it's BRILLIANT.. all their music is story telling.
If you want a ghost story, do a full album reaction to Abigail by King Diamond. It's amazing
Guitar harmonics man.. that's your "ba-ling' you hear
You can do that sound on a guitar, by pressing on some parts of the fretboardb, but you never press the strings down. Polyphia uses this alot: ua-cam.com/video/qspe7LbBVWA/v-deo.html
Dude you look like drummer’s brother…a lost brorher of Mike Portnoy
He does! And a nice guy too!
Cool song and reaction. But what an embarrassing lyrics video. "Like the angel's share", really?!
