Do you think 'The Marvels' will be as popular as 'Captain Marvel?'
Hate to say it, but it seems almost inevitable that the Marvels will struggle at the Box office. It is coming out during a perfect storm of all time high fan dissatisfaction with the MCU and some very public problems at Marvel studios (see the recent Variety artice, Marvel in crisis). The trailers have been very bland, the usual generic CGI fights etc.
This might have worked back in 2016-2019, but I think superhero movies need to do much more in 2023 to get the general audiance to show up (example Spiderverse 2).
I think we are just hoping that they get Daredevil and Deadpool right and those 2 projects bring back some of the magic that the MCU has sadly lost.

Went to see it with the girls and we absolutely LOVED it, it was SO MUCH FUN! Kamala steals the show, the kids didn't know the character but they now adore her.
Fellas, if you have a daughter or niece, this movie is just the perfect gateway for them into this universe, an intergalactic adventure with lots of humor and action.
The villain could have used more background, Marvel's baddies tend to underwhelm, but the shenanigans alone the girls get involved in is worth it. Credit scene was X-citing.
I now officially want a show about Kamala's family, they were so awesome and wholesome!
On the downside, I wish the movie was a bit longer, TBH, there's a lot of things I wanted to see MORE of.

I needed this recap, because The Marvels was.... so bad honestly. It felt like a giant side quest that all 3 heroes went on, it was just lazy writing.
The only good thing that came out of this movie was the post-credit scene:

Monica Rambeau finally crossing over into the X-Men universe.
9:05 I could learn to fake a British accent. I'm great at impressions. I sound just like Sean Connery.....She doesn't know who that is.
I love the Marvel comics. I love these characters. However... sadly... I predict this movie will flop.
And, no, it won't be because it's all women.
It will be because these aren't even the second-line characters... these characters are Marvel's back catalog.
How about we DON'T kill off Captain America and Iron Man and, instead, bring on a female Captain America or an Iron... Woman?
Sigh.
My prediction: The Marvels will fail at the box office and everyone will say, "Audiences are sexist and don't want a team made up of women."
That simply isn't the case. Disney, bring the A-team. Captain Marvel, yes, but, now that you own the X-Men, also Phoenix/Jean Grey, Rogue, Storm, X-23, Spider-Woman (and not alternative universe Gwen Stacy - I'm talking Jessica Drew), Jessica Jones...
... it could have been SO good.
I disagree.
Marvels will win or lose on its own merit, and it has nothing to do with the characters being Z-listers.
Remember, Captain America, Ironman, Thor, NONE of those were A-listers either.
For most of its history, Marvel's A-listers have been Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Wolverine. All now Fox properties.
Only half a dozen nerds even knew who Ironman was when his movie came out. Nobody but a couple german geeks had even heard of Thor (who's a redhead in the norse myths).
And exactly zero people of the non-nerd persuasion even knew who Guardians of the Galaxy were. Heck, I have dozens of comics at home myself and I didn't know who these space bozos were either.
They made it big box office numbers because their movies were great, they had great stories to tell, and folks liked them. Even though they were nobodies when their movies came out.
If Marvels is a good movie with a great story to tell, then it will make it. If the story and acting and etc is mediocre, then it will flop.
Turns out I was right. Wish I wasn’t. 🙁

Let me help you: it sucked, but they had wamen. And the wamen are strong and brave. So woke. So god-damn woke.
